H.What a great adventure we had with Paul at Sand Safaris. He was an excellent guide taking us onto 90 mile Beach for a drive with stunning views. The sand dunes were great fun for surfing down. It was fantastic seeing the Cape Reinga lighthouse which was followed with a relaxing beach BBQ. More great coastal views on the east coast back to base.
If you're looking for a great day out this is it!!
E.Great trip, excellent value for money. The sound system for me wasn't great I could only catch some of what was said. Dune surfing was great. Nice lunch. Highly recommended
S.Sand Safaris is a must if your heading up to the Cape.Bus was very comfortable and clean. Driver was funny, friendly and knowledgeable about local area. Good value for what we paid.
There were a couple of thiings that could be improved to make this a 5 out of 5 experience.
The bus driver was unintentionally racist 😒 There was a number of things that he said that made me cringe - eg "maoris" Please if your a tourist company in NZ it is so important that you pronounce everything correctly and insure that any biases are dealt with.
The other aspect of Sand Safaris that could be improved is the BBQ lunch.
This consisted of 1 sausage, a tiny piece of steak, 3 salad options, budget white bread, raro, and cheap coffee.
As someone who has worked in the hospo industry I know how much things cost and the mark up that business puts on their product.
A lunch that consists of proper juice, good coffee, an option of buns and bread, some seasonal fruit, muffins, or cake, the existing 3 salad options, sausages, and no steak could still come into the budget and just jazz it up abit. Remember food is everything. 😉
Over all, it was a great experience and would recommend it
C.This is an awesome day trip up to Cape Reinga. First the bus driver is brilliant (Buzz), very knowledgeable about the area and history. Great BBQ lunch at a beautiful beach and then sand dunning, sooo much fun. I would totally recommend this tour company.
K.Myself and family just spent the day on your tour bus with Buzz. What an awesome experience. I would highly recommend to all. He was full of local and historical knowledge and clearly took pride in his work which made the tour stand out in our books. Congrats to Sand Safaris for having such a champion guy at the helm.
E.Way better than expected! We’re typically not bus tour people but we didn’t want to take a chance driving on the beach with some horror stories we heard about. Sure enough, as soon as we arrived on the beach there was a family trying to dig out their RV. So happy we went with this company. Paul was an amazing guide! He had so much knowledge of the area and was fully committed to showing the group the best the area has to offer. I would highly recommend!

S.We booked this trip at the last minute as we had reached the northern most site on our three week tour of North Island, we really wanted to go up to Cape Regina but we wernt keen on driving ourselves. It was the best decision of our trip, we were collected from the town nearest our camp site and met with the main group. Our tour guide/driver Wendy was incredible, friendly, knowledgeable, funny, totally professional and made sure that we all had a fantastic and safe experience. Wendy realy made the whole trip everything we could have hoped for.
The trip itself takes you through some breathtaking countryside, we took the road route up due to the ride times and heard some great information about the history and background of the area. Cape Regina is a magical place and has left us with some realy special memories.
The BBQ was a nice lunch, enough to keep us going and well prepared and hosted.
The dune boarding was an added bonus which the kids enjoyed (and us parents), I was reluctant but having had a go, would recommend you dont miss out.
The drive back along 90 mile beach was a great experience and one we never imagined we would have on our trip, but made all the more impressive with the tour bus / truck which was comfortable and combined with Wendy's driving felt very safe.
I can't thank the team enough for the fantastic day and would recomend the tour to anyone considering going up to Cape Regina / 90 mile beach, certainly wouldn't choose to drive ourselves when this tour is available. Thanks from the Alexander's.
M.We were picked up and dropped at our motel from our lovely bubbly driver who took us to the tour bus where we met Wendy who was our tour guide for the day. She was also great entertaining informative and considerate of kids and entertaining them aswell so they enjoyed the experience just as much. They also fed us a yummy lunch of salads and bbq..we loved every experience we got to have with sand safari and would reccommend them in a heartbeat! Definitely a must do if you're ever in the far north and want to see their wonders without battling for car spots or crowds. Plus who can show you and tell you more then the locals

13th March. Exceptional value for a great day trip to some of the most beautiful parts of NZ! Our tour guide, I forget his name, a maori guy was very informative and wonderfully entertaining! My husband loved the sand boarding! Our lunch on the beach was great too! Would highly recommend the tour!
