Reviews of E-Ko Tours
M.
The children and I recently took the tour to Motuara Island. What a fabulous experience. Guides are knowledgeable and love what they do. I really wanted to see dolphins and penguins, got that and plenty more. Lots of wildlife, rare birds. We had fantastic weather, it was just so beautiful out there. Highly recommend, we really enjoyed it. Thanks all.
r.
Best thing I could have done while in Picton. Chris and Courtney were fantastic on the tour. One could really feel the love and passion they have for the work, the area and their respect for eachother.
Paul was also an excellent help over the phone when we were booking in. Great team! Thanks so much!
C.
Really great experience, made better by seeing some hector dolphins. Very relaxed, family related, yet lots of information shared too. Only problem ... no sun today ... haha. But that didn't effect the experience.
S.
Omg, this experience is one of the highlights of my life. I'm still smiling one week on and probably will be forever.
Thank you to everyone involved, you guys certainly made it a special day I will never forget ❤
j.
Loved this experience.
Would have to be one of the better tours around.
The crew were great, extremely knowledgeable and friendly.
The skipper (Chris) knew the front of the vessel from the back which was helpful.
Huge range of wildlife viewed and stunning scenery.
Words don't do this experience justice, get out and have a look.
Simply beautiful.
Thanks heaps E-Ko Tours, you guys are choice.

We did a swimming with dolphin tour with E-Ko on 27 Dec 2021, it's our first time to swim in the ocean, so that the tour guide Nicky (hope it's right spelling) took very care of us. She is so nice and patient, especially when we got afraid of ocean. We saw dolphins and seals, and my friend swimed with seals, I tried to get into the ocean and swim. In short, it is such valuable trip and we have decided to attend this tour again!
M.
We had an awesome time and learnt heaps, saw some amazing animals and the guides were great
M.
We took the 4 hour morning cruise, including Motuara Island and the whole trip exceeded all expectations. The vessel is perfect for viewing and we saw pods of dolphins, penguins, seals and seabirds, as well as those on the island. The crew are friendly and informative whilst the scenery all the way is stunning. 100% recommend this trip.
C.
Fantastic trip out with E-Ko tours..great guide Nikki was and other staff were knowledgeable and oh so friendly .
M.
Wildlife adventure that is set apart from the rest.
My family and I had an amazing time with the E-Ko crew
Very educational, And they went right out of their way to provide nature at its best. The staff are amazing big shout out to Paul and Tanya for their amazing service, and time to shear what NZ hidden gems are tucked away.
We did the Dolphin tour, the kids are still talking about it.
Totally recommend E-Ko tours anyway
We look forward to returning again soon
T.
Amazing team and crew of people, made our tour. Saw beautiful wild life and were graced by a pod of dolphins.
Outstanding team brilliant, recommend to everyone.
P.
An absolutely stunning experience. A 4 hour afternoon cruise to Motuara Island via a few amazing stop offs. Although the company so not guarantee any sightings they are experienced enough to know what is where. The highlight was two sightings of Dusky dolphins right under the boat. I chose the right day as the replica Endeavour ship was in Ship Cove for a 250 Tuia celebration. Motuara Island and the views were superb. Our crew Andy and Glenda (helped by Rob the photographer) certainly knew their stuff and ensured we knew what we were seeing and the history of Totaranui. Thank you.
R.
Paul and his team were amazing the day was perfect we saw so much bird and marine life. The Blue Penguins were popping up everywhere and the dolphins were out to play to we were spoilt. We were given an incredible commentary very informative and very interesting. Well done E-ko Wildlife cruises you were awesome you get a 10 out of 10 from me.
D.
Big thumbs up for Motuara Island - Wildlife Island Sanctuary and Dolphin Cruise. Our guide is Chris and the captain is Andy. They are very professional and give the best introduction to the wild life. We get to see Hector Dolphins up close and some wild birds in Motuara Island. I will definitely join the tour again if I revisit Nelson.
K.
Highly recommend. Captain Paul was excellent as a tour guide, bringing us to Kaipupu Sanctuary and a cruise of the Sounds. Lots of bird and marine life.
K.
Had a wonderful trip from Picton to Ship Cove with the dolphin safari. We even watched orcas playing in the bay. Hard to capture on a picture but luckily even harder to forget. The guide and the Captain were truly excellent on communicating what we saw combined with lots of interesting knowledge.
C.
Had a great day out this afternoon. Kids had a great time. Loved seeing the dolphins. Thank you very much for the information and history.
K.
Had a great boat tour. Our captain and guide were both great and the views were stunning.
Y.
Absolutely worth every cent. Excellent tour with knowledgeable, friendly guides. Would recommend to all.
Y.
We did a morning cruise as we had an afternoon ferry to catch. These guys were the only company which returned in plenty of time to check in before it closed (1pm for the 2pm sailing). Most other companies did not return until 1pm. These guys were really good with our young children who were with us too. My youngest decided to have multiple meltdowns during the trip and the guides didn't even bat an eye. Highly recommend this cruise if you are wanting to get in to the sounds on the same day as a ferry crossing. We didn't get to see all the wildlife we would have liked too however that is just nature - the trip was still amazing.
M.
Fantastic trip with excellent service and an awesome team. Highly recommend to others!!! Thanks heaps our family really enjoyed ourselves.
M.
Loved the tour to Motaura Island, staff were very friendly and informative. Our trip was lucky enough to see plenty of wildlife and spend time following the dolphins. Highly recommend!
F.
Did the dolphin swimming tour and Wow!! Absolutely worth every cent. Swam with multiple different species of dolphins and watched them do awesome stuff. The staff were amazing and friendly. A perfect 21st birthday present. Thank you so much!
G.
We did the Motuara Island afternoon tour.
Great professional staff, informative , interesting and friendly. Extras included hot drinks , biscuits and even a wine on the way home. We got to see an amazing collection of wildlife with the highlight being several pods of dolphins. Thank you so much for an amazing experience that the whole family, all 3 generations enjoyed immensely. Would definitely recommend to all.
E.
It was a great tour and our guide told us many things about the birds. We even saw some seals, but unfortunately no dolphins.
G.
Awesome tour! We were on the Hector's dolphin tour in the afternoon and it was really fun, in spite of the rain! Joséphine knows everything there is to know about the tour, she has a lot of really interesting stories to tell! We saw native birds, seals, blue penguins, and hector's dolphins! Chris (the skipper) knows the region's history very well as well, we also had some beverages at the end ... so cool! We were supposed to be on the "swim with the dolphins" tour in the morning but the wife was sick (nothing to do with Eko) and couldn't do it, so we had a refund for the swimming tour and we could book the afternoon one, like so easily ... Awesome, totally recommend!
M.
Absolutely awesome experience. Professional, well run and friendly with great guide and captain. The boat was comfortable, the scenery fabulous and the wildlife incredible.
We did the dolphin watching and bird tour and were lucky enough to have see seals, bird life and several pods of Hectors dolphins who really made the trip special. The animals can choose to come to the party of course but would have been well worth it if we had only seen half as much.
Very much recommended.
B.
Like the tour. It was a lovely day to be away. It was nice to see different species
N.
I had an amazing time! Swimming with
dolphins was a truly magical experience! So much wildlife it there to see in stunning surroundings🐬A seal eating an octopus, little blue penguins, gannets diving, hector dolphins and being priveliged to sing to and swim with dusky dolphins 💜 All on one trip! Wonderful, informative staff knowledgeable about the wildlife and surrounding history of the sounds. Thanks for a fabulous time 😊
M.
This tour was a delight. The guide, Jack, and boat driver, Paul, were so great! They knew so much about wildlife of NZ and are even involved in helping the endangered animals in the area, they're great.
We saw so many Dolphins, a family of seals, lots of awesome birds (including penguins!!!), and the boat ride and hike were just lovely. They were both such a good mix of fun and informative. I am SO glad I did this little cruise.
A.
Incredibly tour. We went on the afternoon tour, and Josephine was our guide. Very resourceful, and great with the children. We will definitely be going back for another tour to swim with the dolphins. Thank you so much!
D.
Incredible experience. We hadn't come across Picton as a place to swim with dolphins previously as had only known about this at Kaikoura and Akaroa. So glad that we found E-Ko tours to do the dolphin swim. We got dropped in the water three times and had an amazing time swimming with dusky dolphins and NZ fur seals as an added bonus. The no sea-sickness guarantee was true, my girlfriend regularly feels sea sick but no issues today despite the weather not being great.
Highly recommended if you're in the area. The staff are all passionate about the animals that they're taking you to see and their love for the animals is clear.
T.
Absolutely amazing! Went on the 9am cruise with about 8 other people and had a blast. The boat was great with plenty of room for everyone (even a bathroom). The crew (Tristan as captain) was kind, extremely knowledgeable, and worked hard to make sure we all had a great experience. We saw tons of marine and bird wildlife... even some Hector's Dolphins! Highly recommend these guys and if you're in Picton go on this cruise!
V.
We had a lovely tour, with very knowledgeable stuff. We got heaps of amazing information on all the wildlife with some funky jokes inbetween. Would definatly recommend the tour to anyone. Was perfect with our 3 year old twins.
We saw a very curious Bush Robin, a seal, a few Hector dolphins and even a baby dolphin and plenty of other beautiful creatures.
P.
The best! A relaxing and informative afternoon. Saw King Shags and Hector's dolphin - highlights of the day. The walk to the lookout on Motuara Island was pleasant, lots of bird calls and songs. The crew were so friendly, no question was stupid or too hard. Everyone mixed in and were relaxed. Had a great afternoon!
M.
Spending my birthday on the E-Ko-Boat was the best decision! We saw seals, dolphins, little blue penguins and a lot of beautiful local birds in a stunning scenery! Our tour guides definitely know what they are talking about - I can highly recommend to hop on a boat with them and enjoy the unique landscape!
A.
Did the wildlife tour. Not so many dolphins. Few seals. A LOT of birds.
T.
Amazing trip. Such a welcoming team that created an outstanding experience for all ages. Very personal feel to the whole trip. Learnt so much from the passionate guides and saw most of the wildlife we expected to. Can't recommend this company enough. Such a local kiwi atmosphere the whole time. Also very well priced. You won't be disappointed! Thanks heaps guys and girls for making it a Great family day out.
M.
Fantastic tour. Had a great valentines day trip. Emma and Andy were awesome and yes very friendly tour guides we also get to see Dolphins and different species of birds. We Will definitely go back again. Thanks team.
P.
We had a lovely day with E-Ko tours. The guides were really nice and could give a lot of information about the wildlife, the size of the group was really reasonable and we enjoyed cruising the sounds a lot. Definitely recommend. Our favourite in NZ.
C.
Fantastic trip out to Motuara Island, got to see Hector's dolphins and lots of rare NZ birds. Great trip, great people. Heartily recommend!
J.
We had such a fantastic morning swimming with the dolphins despite a cool drizzly day. Thankyou to Paul and Josephine of E Ko tours for their excellent hospitality. It made a special and memorable day for me. We will be back next year for another experience. 😁, Jim and Maryanne Sime
R.
Had a great trip, did the 4 hour dolphin cruise. Saw so much wildlife it was awesome, hectors dolphins, nz fur seals, so many bird varieties. Our guide Tanya was simply the best, her knowledge of NZ and our wildlife was next level (and she was english), Captain Andy was brilliant, had the kids up sitting with him most of the way, and they got to 'drive' the boat. Free tea, coffee, hot choc and biscuits plus some mussels and wine taster on the cruise back to picton. So good we've recommended to friends and they have booked for tomorrow! Thanks team.
R.
Our skipper Paul and guide Jack really made this a great trip.
With their expertise, we found a pod of Dusky Dolphins quite quickly, and got some great info about them while watching their hunting and frolicking in the sea.
When it was time to go into the water, we were well prepared about what to expect, and how to attract the dolphins (by singing!).
The result was certainly a once-in a lifetime experience, with quite a few dolphins coming within arms-length, and both man and dolphin obviously enjoying their time spent together.
Compared to the dolphin swim experience at Kaikoura, Picton is certainly the lesser known, but because of that less crowded, much more personal.
You also get the distinct feeling that with this tour, people really care for the animals, making sure not to disturb them, and to only send tourists into the water when the dolphins would like it.
K.
They get an extra star for the orcas and hector dolphins we spotted very close to the boat and another one for the overall nice trip and knowledgeable & friendly guides. However, just cancelling our booked tour at zero notice because we were "only" 5 people was disappointing, and we felt the way the situation was handled was not OK, especially since we are travelling with 3 young children. The trip we got as a replacement did not include the visit to the island or the seafood on the way back, but it cost us the same. (They did offer to put us on the afternoon trip but waiting around so long with the kids was not an option). So, great experience, but not so good customer service.
G.
We had such a great time this morning with Captain Paul and crew on the swimming with dolphins tour. They really went out of their way to show us as much life as possible... seals, dusky dolphins, bottle nose. I sincerely respect and appreciate how conscious they are about what's good for the dolphins too. Seeing them free and wild, giving them space and letting them decide if they wanted to interact made it more rewarding.
S.
We signed up for dolphin swimming with E-Ko Tours - unfortunately we didn’t see any dolphins but we still had a good time on the boat exploring Marlborough Sounds. They gave us a partial refund at the end - would have preferred the option to join the tour on the next day if they had spaces so we have a chance again to see the dolphins but this option was not offered!
K.
We had an amazing afternoon, with a viewing of Dusky Dolphins herding and corralling a fish ball, while Shearwater birds and a few seals joined into the fray. We also saw Spotted and King Shags, and a New Zealand fur seal. Paul gave us a very knowledgeable talk along the way about conservation in the Sound, as well as behaviors of the various mammals and birds we encountered. It was a 2 thumbs up!
M.
I joined the crew on a trip to Motuara bird sanctuary on Sunday afternoon. The commentary was really informative and clear. The staff were very welcoming and it made the trip so much more fun. Thank you so much for an AWESOME experience. I already advised all the students in the backpackers to join you for a trip.....I will hopefully see you again soon.
J.
You can really feel the love and respect the guides have for the sea creatures. We had an amazing time there and won't be forgetting it anytime soon. Swimming with dolphins seems almost surreal in the best possible way
M.
A fantastic day out for the Dolphin and Motuara Island tour. Delighted to spend about an hour watching orca swim through the sounds. Briefly saw bottle nosed dolphins, but they were behaving erratically because of the orca. The island walk was quick and easy, plenty of south island robins and kakariki to see. One less star as we felt the crew/guide we're overly repetitive in their commentary (perhaps they need a fact sheet to work from?). The speakers on the boat were too loud and high pitched, it wasn't that pleasant to listen to.
J.
We had a wonderful time watching and swimming with dolphins. Our guide Kate was very friendly and informative. I like how they put the wishes and well being of the dolphins in first place! We saw dusky dolphin's. Just a couple of days after we left there were orca's in the area! Too bad we missed that but it was a great experience nonetheless.
J.
I booked the drop off to ship Cove with this place. Affordable rate, it included a two hour cruise of Marlborough Sound where I also saw some good marine wildlife. Boat was comfortable and the guides were informative.
M.
Definitely a highlight of our Picton trip. We got a lot of dolphin time, both in the water and then as the pod followed our boat. Some interesting birds too, but wow the dolphins. I'm glad I didn't know there were orcas swimming around too or I might not have gone in the water! Very knowledgeable staff who took good care of us....cookies, coffee, hot chocolate were free.
K.
I had an awesome day on my E-ko tour! Staff were absolutely lovely. We got to see and swim with heaps of dolphins. It was an amazing experience! I would highly recommend to anyone 😍
W.
Very well structured business striving to make every opportunity interesting. A very beautiful part of New Zealand to visit and view our mammals and avian treasures.
D.
We did the Motuara Island Tour with Josephine, Paul and Rob and it was incredible. The team were super friendly and knowledgeable, we had the best time and saw some incredible species ❤
J.
Helpful and friendly staff. Nice smooth boat ride with lots to see. The predator free island was the highlight. Saw penguins in their nest boxes, saddlebacks, bellbids and the orange fronted kakariki which I've not seen ANYWHERE else. Saw dolphins on the way back which rounded the trip off nicely. A MUST do in Picton, a highlight of our entire trip. HIGHLY recommended!!
o.
We had a great time seeing dolphins and birds. It was a beautiful day, thank you so much.
S.
It was the best tour saw shags, fur seals dolphins great guides and the island was worth the walk for the views
A.
My husband and I booked the swimming tour for $160NZD pp ($100 for watching and an extra $60 for swimming) but we ended up only seeing Hector's dolphins (which is really nice though). The lady in charge of looking for the dolphins used "powerful binoculars", but couldn't find any species we could swim with (Hector's dolphins are protected).
The tour is nice but I think the nice lady could have been a bit more motivated to spot the animals.
We were refunded $50NZD pp. Hence, we did a nice tour of 3-4 hrs of the Queen Elizabeth sounds although our aim was to swim with dolphins.
M.
Very friendly and educational trip. Loved the Hectors. Skipper and guide were funny and very customer oriented, took their time to point out and show POI's and Wildlife. Way better experience than on large cruises.
R.
Brilliant experience! Small group, Not overcrowded. The Tourguides were super Kind and polite. Very orientated on getting the best experience possible for their customers.
Would defenetly reccomend.
A.
My partner and I had a lovely time. Went to Blumine Island to camp and then on to Motuara the next day. Great birds and excellent views of Dusky Dolphins from the boat.
A.
Fantastic trip to Motuara island. Paul and Cathy are both great guides. Dusky dolphins know them closely as they wouldn't go away from our boat.
Coffee, cookies and wine were perfectly timed.
J.
trip was excellent. My husband sister and I were interested to explore the marlborough sounds and learn more about the history and wildlife. The trip was very professional, enjoyable and informative. We went on the afternoon tour which included a wonderful hours visit to the Motuara island bird sanctuary. We saw dolphins seals many seabirds penguins and learned so much about the history of the marlborough sounds. It was very beautiful. We highly recommend this tour.
L.
The highlight of my cruise! Not only did we see hectors with calves and in a pod but we got to swim with dusky's. Kia and Jack were absolutely lovely and found the dolphins 20 minutes into the tour and we were in the water not long after that. Would highly recommend this tour whether you are just viewing or swimming. My grandmother who is almost 70 said it was one of the best experiences of her life
B.
Awesome tour with Tristan and Gaia. Saw some rare Hectors dolphins and swam with some other dolphins too. Learnt about the local land and wildlife and was looked after well by the crew in the drizzly weather. Turns out the dolphins don't care if it's raining! Highly recommended :)
S.
Beautiful experience & even though we didnt get to swim with dolphins I would still reccomend it!
K.
Dolphins are tricky and we didn't see many, but we saw the a lot of the rare ones. Very well educated and conscious staff, great boat. Probably wouldn't go again, unless to swim, but a solid do-once tour!
G.
Captain Andy and Jordan were amazing. We saw seals feeding, Hector dolphins playing and swam with the bottlenose. Once in a lifetime experience, well worth the money.
n.
Great day out on the water. Swam with dolphins and seals! Gorgeous experience and great guides! Glad I missed my ferry to Wellington and got to have this amazing experience. Thanks a million!
J.
Absolutely amazing... everything about this tour was world class - the service level, the boat, the wildlife, the scenery, everything. Could not recommend enough. If you are in Picton/Marlborough New Zealand make sure you do an E-Ko Tour!
N.
To bad we saw only hector dolphins ( not allowed to swimm with them) the crew tried and i saw a lot of the sounds. Coffe tee hot choklat as well. The equipment is nice. The tour gouide was realy nice and cheer us all up.
m.
One of the best days of my life. Please go if you can, this team will not disappoint. Saw Ships Cove, Dolphins, native Mauri vessels and native parakeets in the wild. Literally could not have been better and many thanks to the crew!
É.
Best wildlife tour in Kiwiland so far (in 5 months)
E.
Awesome experience ! Tanya is an amazing guide, very passionate. We were lucky to see Hector's daulphins, seals and a lot of birds. We recommend !
J.
Had the most interesting and enjoyable afternoon with Paul and his crew. I was visiting from Australia my lovely friends who live closeby and we all went for the afternoon. Saw everything and anything, and was most welcomed and looked after by the team. If you want to see a little rate bit if kiwiana, let Ecotours take you there, you will not be disappointed. Picton is a lovely town offering so much and very accessable and Ecotours take you off for more hidden delights and scenery. I will be back!!
F.
Best dolphin tours in Picton, we saw some Dosky and Hector dolphins in one day. Guide lady was really a bubbly person and she is always trying her best to help people.
M.
Had a wonderful time! Definitely recommend - tour guides were fun and knowledgeable and the weather just couldn’t be beat.
R.
Passionated and very kind peuple runing the tours. Thanks to the whole crew from a Paris' couple. You made this journey unforgetable. A special thanks to Tania who obviously love the island and communicate the passion
R.
Very friendly staff and excellent boat excursion. They offer a full refund if you do not see any aquatic mammals, but that is highly unlikely.
G.
Great afternoon with very knowledgable and friendly skipper and guide. Relaxed approach much appreciated.
M.
Good tour with friendly skipper and marine guide but the boat we had was not that comfy as advertised and a bit too small for that amount of people.
C.
Amazing experience! Seeing the wildlife up close and swimming with the dolphins was incredible.
T.
Awesome experience, recommend to all!

(Translated) Booking months or weeks in advance is always a risk due to the weather. Just go there and book a tour! The day before the weather was modest, there is no animal. Therefore, I can understand the cancellation of tours. We had luck the next day, nice weather and great tour guides!
(Original)

(Translated) I will never forget my time with dolphins in the middle of the sea. The weather was very nice and dozens of dolphins follow the boat and it was really beautiful. However, after entering the water without warm-up, I almost stopped breathing. Still, the time I spent with the dolphins seems to be one of the best memories of my life
(Original)
H.
(Translated) Very nice tour. Have put a lot of effort. Nice guide and nice captain. Great weather, dolphins, albertros and great orcas seen. Gladly again ******
(Original)
Sehr schöne Tour. Haben sich sehr viel Mühe gegeben. Nette Guid und netter Kapitän. Tolles Wetter, Delfine, Albertros und tolle Orkas gesehen. Gerne wieder ******

(Translated) I had a wonderful time thanks to E-ko. In addition to being able to see the dolphins playing in the waves that the boat was making, to have been able to share time in the water with them, we saw two orca fins in the distance at the end of the activity. A fascinating escape from the dolphin colony followed. A unique moment!
I recommend the E-ko company for a trip to the sea and swimming with dolphins. Because in addition to making you live a great moment, you promote a company respecting the ethics of the marine environment. Find out what is not the case for everyone. E-ko proposes that one outing per day to swim with them so as not to disturb the colony. You can only swim with them if there are no cubs and no Hector dolphins (which are protected), and thus limit the impact on their development as much as possible.
I would like to take this opportunity to warmly thank Joséphine (French guide) and the whole team!

(Translated) Great trip, small boat with about 20 people, live commentary, rapid ride through the sounds, bird colony and salmon farm and sea lions seen, then Matara Iceland, either with the guide in a hurry to Summit or left in peace and watching animals, dolphin bay was orphaned, we only saw a mother with a boy shortly. That was too bad
