Laid-back approach and not concerned with sticking to the timetable. Can't rush perfection when looking for great photos. Provides morning tea and costumes and real swords to dress up as your favorite character from LOTR. Great photo opportunities to be able to look back on.

J.Best tour of Glenorchy (and in Queenstown)! We had the absolute pleasure of hanging with "Scuba" Kate! Such a delight and treasure. She rescued our lost selves from Queenstown proper, and navigated through the twisty turns of mountainside roads like a true legend. Full of local anecdotes, and Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit references, we were happy to get not only some of the cinematic highlights, but also happy in the knowledge that this tour specifically has permission/concession from the Department of Conservation. Perfect for all levels of fitness, and all levels of interest: from the nature-loving trekkie, to the die-hard Tolkien fan, this tour has you covered! Can't recommend enough, and will definitely come back wirh friends! Thank you Scuba Kate, and Joel!
J.Great half day trip - do not miss, unless not a LOTR fan! (If you are not ,do the scenic one) The scenery is awesome and much more interesting with the LOTR info. Have a picnic at Isengard. NB. The van is equipped with Elvish swords. Just sayin'.
L.This tour was the highlight of our time in Queenstown, which to be fair was already epic, so this is really saying something!
Joel took our family (including two kids aged 11 and 8) to the most beautiful places. To call them film set locations is an understatement - this is paradise on earth. The glorious views of the mountains and lakes, coupled with Joel's extensive knowledge of the area and its history was, to say the least, truly impressive.
Joel was extremely knowledgeable about the film set locations and has enabled exclusive access to one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen - this is unique to this tour. My family of LOTR fans found it magical to see the real locations where these movies were filmed, and understand more about how they were filmed, connecting the reality of these incredible locations with the fantasy in the movies. My kids will never forget this day. My 11yo girl says "it was totally awesome! I loved seeing sting, but luckily there weren't any orc nearby", my 8yo boy says "it was epic! I loved being Frodo!".
This is a small, family-owned business. Impacted hugely by covid-19, but Joel and Kate are absolute legends, bringing personal touches, along with professional knowledge and experience to their business. I would wholeheartedly recommend this tour to anyone seeking to see these beautiful locations and understand more about the area in general, but especially LOTR fans.

L.We hadn't rented a car for our stay in Queenstown and wanted to take a tour to get out into the countryside. Teenaged son is a big LOTR fan and the rest of us had seen bits and pieces of the movies. So, this checked all the boxes for us. LOTR locations and trivia; stunning countryside, fascinating peek behind the scenes from the tidbits shared by our clever and fun guide James. He took care to assess the level of fan-dom in the group and made sure to include references to other films like Narnia and Wolverine, too. The stop for tea in Glenorchy was a nice moment to take it all in. I loved that it was provided in eco-friendly fashion with mugs, cloth towels and flatware. Other stops were varied (short hike or spot at side of road) and just long enough for us to enjoy and snap some pics and move along. I really liked that it was 4 hour tour and left plenty of time for more exploring when we returned. Highly recommend!
A.First up, huge thanks to Mark for helping us out when it seemed we might miss the tour due to unforeseen roadworks - really appreciated your friendly, no worries attitude. The tour was a great experience with Simon our guide chatting easily with the 6 of us in the vehicle. He had us all talking like old friends in no time though we were mainly united in groaning at his bad jokes 😊 The scenery of course is spectacular and I think even people with minimal interest in LOTR would be impressed with the information and knowledge shared. The lunch in the forest was delicious and dressing up in the wizard/ elvish clothing an absolute hoot! I'd really recommend this tour - it's a lot of fun!

J.Had an awesome tour with Joel. Although the weather was not the greatest (very rainy), we had a wonderful time and loved every moment of it! Joel was very knowledgeable and had access to filming locations other groups don't, and those spots have spectacular views. It's really awesome when he points out a filming location and that fantastic moment of 'oh yeah!' when you remember it (and if you don't, he has photos to help jog your memory, or show you if you've not seen the film). I highly recommend this tour - you don't need to be a fan of the movies to enjoy it, the locations are beautiful. Great fun, hope I can do it again in the next year or two!
K.Absolutely fantastic experience with this tour - even though I was a LOTR novice. The tour guide catered to our knowledge of LOTR and explained so much about the film series and the upcoming Amazon tv series. We came away with more facts about LOTR and the behind-the-scenes story of the film series' production. At the end of the trip we felt like we had gone on a fun road trip with an old friend - would highly recommend this tour to anyone with half a day in Queenstown!

S.Joel really made this tour special - a genuinely knowledgeable, enthusiastic LOTR guide and kiwi. From the get go, he was a down to earth, funny guy who made us feel like we were a group of friends on a roadie. We got to stop at incredible set LOTR locations, including the exclusive access to Beorn’s house where we were able to take photos with high quality props. We even had a spontaneous drive around a live scene filming of One Lane Bridge!

J.My boyfriend is a big LOTR fan so booked this for his birthday trip - we loved it! Regardless of whether you are a fan of the movies or not, the tour and scenery out to Glenorchy is just incredible. Lots of fun facts about how the films were made and stops at different locations. We had morning tea in the red boat shed which was lovely and dressed up as characters from the movie to take pictures in the forest - way too much fun! Highly recommend this tour!

Our tour guide, Joel, was really knowledgeable on the tourism history of Queenstown as well as his knowledge of the LOTR locations and what was going on behind the scenes when they were filmed many years ago. The fact that Joel took us to filming locations where they shot the films was a complete bonus and gave it that much more of an exclusive feel. Definitely recommend going on this tour!
K.Don't miss this great experience! Spent a great time with owner-operator Joel who was informative, funny, and hospitable for me and my 4 kids. He and wife Kate helped identify suitable kid-friendly activities in the area and ensured that the tour was appropriate (and fun!) for my family which included children ages 10, 8, and 5 year old twins. Loved the great mix of driving and walking, and that the commentary included natural history, local info, and of course movie facts. It is great to benefit from the local knowledge and to know you are supporting a small, family owned and run enterprise! Joel was incredibly kind when one of my 5 year olds threw a wobbly and skilfully amended the tour to accommodate short attention spans and the need to run around. This is a wonderful way to see and learn about the local area - highly recommend! (And don't be put off if you are not a LOTR fan - my kids haven't seen the movie but still loved the tour.)

The views on the way to Glenorchy were phenomenal and could make the trip well worth it even if you didn’t care about LOTR. But if you care about it, this tour will be a major highlight. Seeing so many filming locations in a half-day, learning so many interesting facts and hearing how Peter Jackson directed the movies in specific spots, the actors’ interactions, and so much more made this tour absolutely worth it. Oh and our tour guide was amazing. So friendly and very knowledgeable! A must do if you’re in Queenstown.

C.Amazing half-day tour well worth the cost! A relaxing, chill environment, with a small group size and attention to detail to ensure our comfort. It was a cold morning, and among pickup, the van was heated with blankets on each seat. Homemade treats and tea halfway through with a beautiful view of Glenorchy was an unexpected plus! The BEST part was our guide. He literally detailed every aspect of the trip in relation to LOTR (even other movies and NZ history). My husband is a big time LOTR fanatic and learned even more than he already knew (not sure how that’s possible)! I’ve only seen the movies once. So, this tour is perfect for big time fans and the latter. Would highly recommend!

N.I took this tour on a rainy and misty October morning along with 2 more people, a really small group that allowed us to ask numerous questions and get plenty information about New Zealand and LOTR movie locations.
Our tour guide, Andrew, was really passionate about his work and provide tons of information regarding the movies and the area.
Unfortunately, the misty weather did not allow us to see much and visibility was really bad. I am pretty sure that on sky-blue weather the views will be amazing. Therefore, note that this mainly a weather dependent activity. Nevertheless, the information I have learned about the movie and NZ were pretty cool!
We have received our photo CD and had our picnic inside the van - coffee, tea, and some local delicacies!

C.My wife and I totally enjoyed the LOTR experience. Our guide provided expert knowledge of the land and interesting points we never knew. He provided detailed insight into the filming at various locations that provided a better appreciation of the effort in making the LOTR trilogy and subsequent films. I highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in the LOTR.
B.So I have to start off by saying I know very little about LOTR. If you were like me doing some googling about this trip while your friends are going "come on, it will be fun" and thinking this might not be for you, then you don't know what you're missing.
So yes, names of characters, scenes from the movie, just about everything LOTR related went over my head its true, but the views are fantastic and Kim, the guide on our little adventure, was awesome. She really makes you feel at ease and really knows how to get a good conversation going. She really does well to find out what gets you chatting and we had a great little chat about linguistics.
I guess I am writing this review to help those, like me, that may have thought they would not get as much out of the tour as they could if they had seen the films, etc. The tour is well worth it for the great company and great visuals. If you do know the films etc, there is no doubt that you are in great hands with Kim, but rest assured if you know nothing, you'll equally love it too.
PS, did I say they have great food for the journey too?!

Also, she went out of her way to drop us of at our next destination which was too sweet. J.The Pure Glenorchy Lord of the Rings Tour was beyond amazing. If you are looking to do a Lord of the Rings tour in Queenstown, this is the one. Joel, our tour guide, was incredible. He was very entertaining and extremely friendly to all of us on the tour. He was full of knowledge and facts around the Lord of the Rings movies, other movies made in the areas visited and the history of Queenstown/Glenorchy. This is also the only tour with access to the specific sites the movies were filmed on, so a special experience be exactly where parts of the movies were filmed. It was a lot of fun being able to dress up in the costumes and have pictures taken, whilst also being treated to afternoon tea! (The apricot slice is delicious). Joel was also very helpful; offering to take pictures for us at each site as well as dropping us off in town so we could grab some dinner (with some great restaurant recommendations!) - thank you! I cannot recommend this tour enough! I will definitely be taking this tour again in the future :)

He provided so much information about the scenery and the lotr scenes. He shows you photos of the movie scene and points out the actual mountains in the background etc so you can really see that’s where the scene was shot. He also took us to a location where Pure Glenorchy has the only access! You get the opportunity to dress up as well which was super fun. I was very grateful for the hot cup of coffee provided as it had been raining a wee bit that day. I highly recommend this tour to anyone (lotr fan or not) !!
