a.ALERT: this is one of the, if not the, best tour you will ever have in New Zealand. Stephen, the tour guide, is passionate and continues to do this tour despite COVID's effects on tourism. The cost/price is more reasonable than other tours around NZ.
You may think that the highlight was seeing hundreds of glowworms from a few centimeters away near waterfalls but this wasnt the case. Dont get me wrong, that was spectacular but the trip itself was extraordinary.
Stephen picked us up from the tourists help centre on time. He drove us in a very comfortable high tech specialised van. He handed us different types of tourches and we walked about 2Km in the dark; including our 3 and a half year old child. You aim your tourch up to see the trees forming a bridge hiding the whole sky from you. We saw tens of wallabies (tiny kangaroo like creatures) hopping meters away from us, Wetta like insect shells (forgot their names) and different types of trees and plants. Ive been in New Zealand for 21 years and this was the first time I saw the real Silver Ferns; they arent as evident in day light. You end the journey with hot chocolate to replenish your energy.
I cannot recommend this tour enough. Thank you Stephen for the hollywood like photos you took of our family in the dark :)
R.Had a great night glow worm tour with Stephen. He was very educated and made the entire trip and van ride interesting despite only a couple of us. Would be perfect for something outdoors and a bit different and a great thing to do in the evening. He also took some amazing photos and shared plenty of knowledge with us. Also finished off with a great hit chocolate to warm up! Can't recommend enough.
B.Stephen has created an outstanding experience in a region I know well. This a must do tour for new and return visitors to Rotorua as well as residents. I loved realness of this nocturnal experience, nothing but the natural environment, in all its beauty. The stars were beautiful, the glow worms shone brightly and we also saw some Australian furry pests!!! The NZ native bush is so different at night and Stephen told us so much about the plants. Highly recommend this trip to all.

T.If you're looking for something to do in Rotorua at night, this is it. The tour guide Stephen knows his bush as well as he knows his torches, and will make sure you have an amazing night. Photos cannot do justice to the breathtaking sight of millions of glow worms surrounding you in the bush. Stephen also has fascinating facts about the native fauna, and at the end you'll be served the best hot chocolate I've ever had.

V.This is a very special walking tour through the forest at night. Steve is a fantastic guide pointing out magical sightings such as the amazing sliver fern which you can see in its full glory at night. The glow worms are truly beautiful and I can't recommend Steve and this tour enough - it is a perfect way to spend an evening.
D.Incredible tour, a definite highlight of our 3 week trip to New Zealand. Small group of 7 and we had the best time together. Learned a ton about the forest, the animals, history, and the glow worms. It was raining when we went but it didn’t hinder us at all. Rain boots were provided and hot chocolate at the end. The NZ forest is such a good place to be in, and the experience at night is not to be missed. Personally the glow worms and waterfalls at night were my favourites . Stephen is a personable guide who loves what he does and it shows in the quality of the tour. Great experience and a lot of fun on a number of a levels. Great value for money. Nature is the winner here. Have no hesitation recommending this.

Stephen was a phenomenal guide for the nocturnal glow worm tour. We learned all about the plants and animals in the region, saw glow worms up close, and even saw opossums and a wallaby in the forest! Stephen made the entire evening enjoyable with his knowledge of the forest and the area. He had the evening impeccably planned, including some great photo ops along the way. This was hands-down one of our best experiences on our New Zealand trip!
We could only do the glow worm tour on this trip but will definitely try to do another of his tours next time we're in the area! :)

We saw beautiful silver ferns and seeing the glow worms was like looking at a night sky! Everything about the glow worm tour was excellent and we would highly recommend it. Not only did we learn and see so many amazing things but we ended up with cool pictures and a delicious treat at the end!

Last night we met some people who went to Waitomo Caves to see the glow worms (we didn’t go there so can’t compare), but they were really jealous we were able to get so close-up to the glow worms because you can’t in Waitomo, apparently. L.A must for a true, authentic NZ experience. We spend an evening with Stephen on his nocturnal tour and this was the highlight of our trip. We learned a great deal about the region, culture and impressively, the forest and all that is has to offer. The greatest moments were walking up to hundred of glow worms but being able to view them up close. We were mesmerized how beautiful Rotoru is through our nighttime walk. This cannot be missed!!

A.We did the night glow worm tour with Steve - it was incredible! Steve was very knowledgable and clearly very passionate about the local nature, pointing out lots fascinating creatures and plants including wallabies and pre historic insects. The glow worms were magical, and really did look like a starry night sky - stunning! A great off the beaten track experience, would recommend!

Note: Must have good balance, good shoes and good knees, as there are a few up and downs, not hard, but at least an hour walk in the dark, so don't drink alcohol before going!

Stephen had such great knowledge and showed us the most beautiful glowworms displays, oh and a clear starry sky viewing to boot! I would actually recommend this over Waitomo! S.GLOW WORM NIGHT TOUR: On a whim, my boyfriend and I decided to do this tour as we felt like we didn't get a great glow worm experience at the Waitomo Caves (too touristy, very crowded). We arrived into Rotorua in the late afternoon and were told about this small group tour. Stephen was able to accommodate us as a last minute booking, and we are so happy he did! We and 6 other people went for a night walk through a park - so fun. And Stephen is a wealth of information. We learned so much about the local vegetation and animals (we saw a "troupe" of wallabies!), and the best part...so many glow worms up close (so close, you could see the webs) and all around in the most unexpected places. Thank you, Stephen!

Amazing tour!! Being that I am from the 10,000 Lakes State, Minnesota, I had to see what Rotorua had to offer. Let me tell you, Rotorua and my guide, Steve, did not dissapoint. Rotorua has some beautiful lakes that are must sees. Also, Steve has so much knowledge to share about Rotorua. If you are lucky enough to visit Rotorua, you must consider this tour.
J.We went on Real Rotorua's night tour. To start with, they arranged for their bus to pick us up from our hotel, which was very convenient. From there, we drove a distance to the park, and began our night hike. Our tour guide, Stephen, was very knowledgeable about much of New Zealand wildlife. We learned a ton of interesting facts and even got answer to questions we had since arriving earlier in New Zealand.
Seeing the glow worms light up the forest was an otherwordly experience. It was nothing short of incredible with how many there were, and that alone had made this tour worth it. But you will also get a chance to see some fascinating mammals that come out at night as well as a chance to see/hear the native morepork and maybe even find the weta.
After the hike, the tour wrapped up with a cup of hot chocolate by the lakeside. Wonderful tour hosted by some wonderful people. Definitely check it out. They also offer day tours, although we didn't have a chance to go on those.

J.Real Rotorua's tours were just what I was looking for! I didn't feel like the commercial tours offered in Rotorua were right for me, but off the beaten track tours they provided were just perfect. Lovely scenery and lots of facts and background from Stephen. I did both the morning and the afternoon tours and had a great time on both, with great photo opportunities.
J.The best tour we could hope for! A local guide taking us off the beaten path. We saw lots of glow worms up and personal (which I’m not sure if you can see on the other tours). In addition to glow worms, we got to see old native forest with lots of silver ferns (one of the NZ symbols). Steve is amazing and we are so happy we decided to go with him and not commercial tours.

V.AWESOME! Wanted a tour that took in the natural beauty of Rotorua. The
morning tour with Steve (owner of Real Rotorua) covered lakes, wooded areas, waterfalls, plants; and afternoon tour focussed on geothermal phenomena, such as hot springs, and boiling mud pools. It was an absolutely fantastic day in the company of someone who is passionate about nature, immensely knowledgeable, patient and good at making the complex comprehensible. And if that didn’t convince you...about the time we started to flag in the morning Steve produced a thermos of hot chocolate and a box of shortbread.
for us. In the afternoon, there was iced peach tea and savory rice crackers. And it is a much better deal than the similar trip provided by another company.

Wir haben die nächtliche Glow Worm Tour mit Stephen gemacht und waren total begeistert. Stephen ist mit Herzblut dabei, kennt gefühlt jede Pflanze und jedes Insekt.
An dem Abend haben wir etliche Glow Worms gesehen sowie ein Possum, viele Spinnen und sogar ein Wallaby. Während der Tour machte Stephen hervorragend inszenierte Fotos von uns, die er uns am nächsten Morgen zuschickte.
