What an amazing evening with the brilliant Ness. Walking around the breathtaking Tāwharanui Regional Park at dusk and in to the night, kiwi spotting. The trip was easy to organise and Ness was very accommodating to any needs of the visitors and very knowledgeable about the area and the wildlife.
If you want to see Kiwis in their natural environment book a trip with Ness. We spotted 5 on the night and stood and watch one chilled kiwi foraging for food for several minutes. We seen way more than we've ever seen at the zoo before.
Topped of with Hot milo and homemade cookies supplied by Ness.

Our tour guide, Ness, was absolutely amazing! She was very friendly and knowledgeable, and made sure that our experience was spectacular! We spotted 3 kiwis (one came within a few feet of us!) and several other birds and other wildlife with our red flashlights.
The trails in the park are very well developed and easy to walk on for any level of fitness.
To give you an overview, we were picked up in Matakana in a comfortable and clean van, then driven out to Tawharanui Park. (About 15 minutes) After arrival at the park we looked at and learned about the protective fence construction, walked up to a beautiful lookout point for some photos, then stopped off at an information station for some hot chocolate and snacks while our guide educated us about the park, it’s history, the flora and fauna, and, of course, the kiwis! When the sun started to set, we began our walk (about 2 hours of leisurely walking staying as quiet as possible). The woods were quiet, and we could hear all of the bird calls and other sounds of the forest, including the kiwis walking in the underbrush! We almost immediately came upon our first kiwi sighting, and watched it for about 10 minutes before moving along. While walking on the trail quietly, we heard a male and female kiwi calling to one another up ahead. We then saw two more kiwis! One of them (a female) seemed oblivious to us and walked within a few feet of us! I got some great photos and video! On the walk out, we came upon a rare sighting, a Morepork (Ruru) Owl (also known as the Tasmanian spotted owl). We also saw a Wood Pigeon resting in a tree, and some large Weta on logs. We were directly beneath the Ruru owl in a tree and watched it for a while. (Take a good camera for these sorts of sightings- my iPhone shots weren’t too great). We walked slowly out of the park, and since it was Summer time, we finished about 10:30 PM, and were driven back to our car. Such an amazing experience!!
I would definitely recommend this tour! It is an excellent value, and “must do Kiwi experience” when you are in the Auckland area!!

Our Kiwiness experience was so uplifting and it makes you appreciate this truly beautiful country. Ness is such a good guide, chatty and informative. It isn't easy spotting a kiwi but she managed 3 times. I would recommend this trip. What a buzz, seeing a kiwi in the wild. Thank you Ness

Hi Ness,
Just wanted to say thanks for our fabulous Kiwi tour last night.
We all had a great time and felt very fortunate to see the Kiwi in their natural habitat, what really topped it off though was seeing the Morepork in the tree.
Many thanks once again.
Kind regards
Deb, Mark, Casey and Shelby

Did this on a last minute whim, Vanessa was amazing, friendly, extremely accommodating. Unlike some other tours her tour included the wine tasting as well. Great relationship with the wineries and altogether an amazing day. Already coordinating a round 2 with our friends. Thank you!!!!

Amazing tour, didn't see 1 but 5 kiwis of all different shapes and size! Ness was great providing lots of information and a good ear. Milo and homemade cookies topped the night off. 10/10 would recommend.

During our tour we were able to see 3 kiwis, one which even came and stood next to ness for a good amount of time.
Highly recommend this for anyone who wants to support local, and see a Kiwi in the wild! Ness is an amazing tour guide. The hot chocolates and home made cookies were an exceptional touch of going above and beyond.

We booked a wine tour for our wedding anniversary with Ness. She tailored our day perfectly, allowed us plenty of time at each winery, took us to multiple places including one that wasn't on the list as an extra bonus. She went above and beyond to ensure we had an amazing day! We have already recommended Kiwiness to our friends and families and will definitely book another tour with Ness again

We did the Kiwi walking tour with Ness and it was incredible! She is a passionate and knowledgeable guide as well as being down to earth and helpful. We spotted 7 Kiwi throughout our tour which was awesome. Highly recommend to New Zealanders and people from overseas alike.
