Favourite visitor's centre in the country and that's saying something. Recently renovated and includes two stories taking you through the history of mountaineering. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.

A good information Centre showing some natural and historical connections to Mt Cook. Nice wee gift shop and staff were very informative to things to see for the average visitor.

Fascinating and informative stop after a stay at White Horse DOC camp. So much for adults and kids alike to learn about. Incredible photos, and beautifully laid out. So glad we stopped by!

One of the oldest cafe of Mount cook. They have a limited number of items in the menu like burgers, pizzas, fries. But they are the only ones which opens by 10 am early. And closes by 7 pm. They have great burgers. They will provide The dine-in and outside the cafe (benches behind the cafe) with some awesome mountain views.

Lot's of educational information, very good to visit before/after your trip to the village. There's a cute gift shop that has a bunch of nice momentos.

Love this visitor centre, lots to see and read and heaps of information about Aoraki national park, I had enjoyed my time.. Would definitely come back!

An old favorite of mine, a visit here never gets old. I always manage to learn something new in this great exhibition and testament to this wonderful place.

Loved our stay in Mt Cook.We done the Tasman Lake trip on the speed boats.Was wonderful to see and Staff were excellent.Cheers to all involved.

You'll find the Mount Cook National Park Visitor Centre in the middle of the Village snuggled up next to the iconic Hermitage Hotel. This is one of the better Visitor Centres we have visited on South Island. Opening hours are 8.30-4.30pm daily. In short, this is an essential stop to make before attempting longer and overnight hikes within the National Park. It is important to find out latest information on trail and weather conditions and this is the place you do that. This is also where you register for overnight hut use and pick up general trail information and maps. You'll also find and expected range of souvenir and gift shop items here. The Visitor Centre also serves as something of a museum on the history of local mountaineering and other facets of early life, local weather patterns, fauna and flora around Mount Cook. This makes for a good way to spend 30-45 minutes of your time if weather conditions are poor and preventing you from doing hikes you may want. Displays are spaced out over two floors. In the end, this is a very good DOC Visitor Centre, a first stop for anyone planning on hiking in the Mount Cook National Park.

This is a must do place to go with an amazing and informative center and a great range of amazing walks so very close by

Bigger than expected! A very extensive range of artefacts and information about the mountain and region, you could easily spend an hour here although smaller kids might get bored... there is a very good information desk with everything you need to know before taking off on a longer hiking adventure including detailed weather projections

This world-class visitor centre is a 'must-do' activity during your visit to Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park. Entry is free. The visitor centre building is an attraction in itself, featuring a large picture window looking out to the mountain Aoraki. Nice muesuem, interesting info and downstairs area has a good hands on kids area with puzzles and books, view are awesome.

This is a very unique visitor center as compared to others in the country. The words - somewhere in the middle of nowhere, literally describe this place. The entrance seems quaint, but once we step inside, the Mt Cook peak seen in the far distance from a well curated widow greets us and steals the show. There is a lot of information and artifacts displayed in the center which showcase the local area and history. Souvenirs are available to be bought as well. The staff are nice and helpful. Ample car parking spaces are available and location is easily accessible by road. This is a real hidden gem which usually can get overlooked by the tourists. Very highly recommended.

Popped in to get a few maps and ask for some recommendations which was really appreciated but also enjoyed wandering through the historical and ecological displays. A great way to spend a rainy afternoon. Good gift shop attached.

I've been to a lot of information centres but this one at Aoraki - Mt Cook is something else again. Really amazing as is Aoraki the mountain itself. I spent a very informative hour there recently and learned heaps! There is so much to see, learn and experience here. Couldn't recommend more highly. Ka Rawe - Awesome. The staff I interacted with were equally excellent with a clear love and high knowledge base of this incredible area of Te Waiponamu - South Island of Aotearoa - New Zealand. If you are fortunate to visit this area, make sure you make some time to visit this centre.

Wonderful exhibition space and lots of useful resources. All it needs is some sort of cafe facility, even a simple coffee machine, as there's too much to see and do without taking a break

The reviews were right! This is a pretty impressive visitors centre with a cool view. Loads of museum exhibits that show the history of the area and the animals etc. well worth visiting

A good place to rest and get information！

Full of information about the past and present. From equipment and old photos to interactive maps. Free and well worth spending some time at. The staff are very helpful and love sharing their knowledge.

Never expect it to be such a great spot for photo. Staffs are helpful and always ready to help. You will see The diamond shaped glass mirror just when you get in from the main entrance, which brings in plenty of sunlight and unique shadows. It's also like museum where you can find a lot of info, stories, images, documentaries, ranging from the geography, wildlife to mountaineering. a great spot to take a break and immerse in some history of Aoraki.

Probably the best place to visit after the Valley Track and the Nelson Lake viewpoint.

A great place to stay, has a large kitchen, very clean toilets, rangers are very friendly, close to the mountains and walking tracks.

Very informative visitor centre, with history, facts and tons of displays and information. Staff were very helpful and informative. We asked about a hike and they showed us pictures and were very descriptive. On a clear days great views of Mt Cook and surrounding ranges!

A very informative information centre complete with mountaineering paraphernalia, relics, films and models of wild life, original huts and equipment. Well maintained, well presented and staff were very helpful. Toilets on premises...

Nice place and beautiful instalations in the middle of Mt cook

One of the nicest visitor centers I've been in. The entrance is spectacular (see photo). The range of exhibits and the care put into them is amazing. There's information ranging from geology to environmental to social. There are some great videos available that are well worth sitting down and watching (and I don't normally have the patience for that). The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The gift shop isn't overdone but instead has some nice things in it. I would have liked more in the way of detailed maps of the area but that's my only complaint.

This is seriously one place you must visit when here. Has an excellent overview of the history of the area as well as all the latest info for the walks/hikes in the area. The staff are super friendly and gave us lots of extra info (eg history of Governors bush walk). Also got a great selection of supplies at reasonable prices

The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They have the best available information on the activities around the National Park. It is also the best source for weather forecast and avalanche advise. The museum is worthwhile to visit and the shop is reasonably priced.

BEST in NZ. Awesome experience & warm hospitable staff. Watch out: NEVER STAY in Aoraki Court bcos the owner & staff are BLATANTLY RUDE RACISTS toward non-White tourists & foreigners.

Great place, with lots of information. The staff is friendly, but was not very helpful last time. You can fill up your bottles at the drinking water fountain in front of the visitor center.

Fabulous visitor centre. Much extended since my last visit 8 years ago. This time it was good weather , so spectacular views of Mt Cook. Liked the Hillary statue. Ate in the restaurant for lunch .....pricey for us !!

Really friendly staff in a great place of New Zealand. Always be sure to go before heading out to check on the weather and let them know your intentions. They're really knowledgeable about what to do in the area and share ideas depending on your skill level and interests. The center has a great section on the history of hiking in New Zealand and the summiting of Mt Cook. Well worth the look

Great display of park native animals, introduced pests, birds and historical photos. Lovely displays of the mountain topography.

Enjoyed very much, my only concern is the available parking in the village particularly around the Information centre. Relocating the information centre in the long term to down on the flat terarain where there could be ample parking would be a plus.

Cool building interesting history and not as anti white as most nz state museum's

Probably the nicest DOC visitor center I've been to, which makes sense given how touristy Mt Cook is. Drinking water out front, toilets on the lower floor, free WiFi, and you can pay for your campsite with a credit card at the front desk. Extremely limited parking.

My experience here is it's a good place for kids. There's activity area under mezzanine and a small theatre for video show. Exhibits were really well presented. My kids just love the animals.

Good tourist info and history of area. Staff where very helpfull. But really why isnt this area promoted better ??? There is 3 compelling reasons to visit - scenery, Hillary & LoR. A majestic part of the world we rarely hear of. (Or maybe NZ'ers keep it to themselves 😉)

Excellent service when I needed a refund for a nights camping. We didn't stay but they also had a museum section that looked very well set up and worth taking a look around if you had time.

Best DOC visitor centre in NZ. Doc officers are very helpful and instead of trying to scary you saying that everything is dangerous like most of other DOC would do, they give you useful info about all types of tracks, tell you what you need to do and it's up to you to make your decision. We got some great info about Ball Pass route and wild camping options, as well as other unmarked tracks. Also it's almost a museum/gallery with lots of info and pictures about New Zealand Mountaineering/alpine/nature. You can even see the Ice Axe used in the first ascent of Mt Cook.

This is one of the best visitor centers I've ever seen. There is so much information packed into a beautiful building—it is a must-see in this national park, do not pass it by!!

A very thought invoking experience looking through so much history. Well laid out in comfortable and user friendly areas.

One of the best visitor information centres I've seen around South Island. Grab a map and do the walks. Some of the walks I recommend driving up and not walk from the town centre to save time. They have alot of exhibits explaining the history of Mt Cook, animals and climbing. Made me understand more about South Island. They have puzzles for kids to play with. I recommend buying postcards here, some of the scenary is amazing, some information centres don't have such a extensive range and cost the same.

The DOC woman in charge locked me out the back door (public space) when I was photographing the old trampers hut with no apology or concern. 😤😏🙄

Get there early (or late)! And check the weather forecast... Otherwise you might not get a good view. Really lovely trail. Super easy.
