Reviews of Whanganui River Adventures & Pipiriki Campinground
J.
Ken was a great guide! He has lived in the area his whole life so we got a great insight into the river and surrounding areas. Such great value for money as we got a long ride in the jet boat as well as a nice walk and explanation of the bridge to no where. Everyone is lovely and it is great to support a Maori business. Would recommend! Thanks very much
D.
Had a fantastic time on our trip to the Bridge to Nowhere. Ken was a wonderful knowledgeable guide and a safe driver. All the staff here were very friendly. The Whanganui river was beautiful. Would highly recommend this trip.

Review of campground
We were staying just one night while doing Mountains to Sea cycle tour but in hindsight I’d have loved to stay an extra night or two - it’s so peaceful and beautiful there.
The campground itself is a large circle of well-tended grass, nice and flat. There are also a few units for those without tents. Just up on the hill are the facilities, nothing fancy but everything you need. I couldn’t get the shower to go very hot but my friend had no issues earlier in the evening so the water may still have been re heating.
There’s a kitchen for campers to use and a shop that does takeaway food in the evenings, and a lovely lounge area with couches, puzzles and books. The owners are super helpful and friendly.
The river is a 500m walk down the hill and is so nice to swim in on a hot day.
The drive from Ohakune to Whanganui (or vice versa) that passes this place is just stunning, such a beautiful part of the country and this camp ground lived up to the setting. Highly recommend!
R.
Great day out: jet boat, picturesque bridge to nowhere and easy canoe back to the landing along the mighty Whanganui. Kids loved it. Guide had just the right level of information and quiet time to enjoy them scenery.
D.
Loved our jet boat ride up to Bridge to Nowhere. Awesome guide. Camp ground at Pipiriki was amazing too. Wonderful hosts.
F.
Great day out with the family. Very friendly and knowledgeable hosts. Plenty of history, scenery and some exercise too. Easy walking track, only 2.7km(less than 40min). Hot drinks and cookies provided by operator on the Bridge to Nowhere. Totally recommend!
A.
Can't believe it took me 20 years in NZ before I did this adventure. From our arrival to our departure was 5 hours of fun, laughter and we learned a great deal of history of the region from Ted our great jetboat "pilot" The Bridge to Nowhere was awesome to see and the jetboat trip up and down the river as exciting. Ka Pai to the whole group of hosts. A MUST DO trip and well worth the travel time to Pipiriki.
A.
Great experience we did the three days canoeing and it was well but enough. I believe 5 days might be a bit tiring. We were well drained at the end but really worth it.
M.
One of the top world class events and a tick on the bucket list. One day jetboot and canoeing tour for almost every age. Brenden our 100% kiwi captain knows his river and jetboot very well an has the license to run his boot smoothly over a 50cm water level. Stay overnight in Wanganui and drive along the River for 01:30 h to reach the base camp of adventure in the morning.

A great day and well worth it!
Our tour guide Thomas was really knowledgable and had great stories to tell. An enjoyable day I would recommend,
Misia and Matt

We had a wonderful time Ben and Rebecca , amazing! "Wouldn't you like to know" the catch phrase of the trip. Never to be forgotten, making memories on the river. Joe completely knocked it out of the park as well help when the group needed it !
N.
Awesome experience, I would highly recommend! Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. It was a great day out. Thank you!
e.
One of our most enjoyable days in New Zealand !!! Eddie ,Katie , Ted Walshe Portsmouth U K .well looked after on this most beautiful River trip great scenery ,perfect weather !! Highly recommended !
C.
The trip to the Bridge to Nowhere is given by local tangata whenua who know the area extremely well, as well as owning and working the surrounding lands of the Whanganui river.
The tour guides are professional, friendly, and great to talk with, as well as knowledgeable on the area and the history of where you are going through.
They are the only company on the Whanganui river that provide a completely covered Jet boat as well as having plenty of large boats for large groups.
They provide tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits for when you get to the bridge as well as plenty of time for photos, lunch, and a good chat, as well as learning the history of the area.
It's a great trip with lots of amazing photos and videos to be taken. I highly recommend the trip out to Pipiriki to do this!
G.
Marvellous operation. Fabulous ride down the river with my bike from the Bridge to Nowhere. Hot food arriving at there ground central. Warm and friendly operators.
M.
Awesome stay at the old school soaking up the ngahere and a way cool day on the river bridge to nowhere 32 k jet boat 5 k bush walk 10 k kayak back to Pipiriki mean gold
A.
A great day by all. We took the 1 day adventure and it was awesome. Our guide (Thomas) on the jet boat part was great - full of knowledge and hugely passionate, amusing too! Instructions from him for the kayaking was on point.
The kayaking back was a really good experience, a few capsizes in the team ( 4 kayaks / 4 adults / 4 kids) but it added to the drama! The 2 youngest were able to paddle together the whole day (aged 11) and able to navigate the rapids fine.
Wonderful spot for lunch, a spot for some cliff/rock jumping, river swimming, amazing scenery and just generally a great day. Service and staff were all great, equipment was high standard and best of all it was pretty busy.
Highly recommended, next time we may go out to the “Bridge to Nowhere” with the same operators. :)
A.
Expensive but a great experience. The views are incredible. The boats are comfortable and feel completely safe. Service is great, including coffee at the Bridge to Nowhere.
B.
We had a wonderful trip to the Bridge to Nowhere. The scenery is stunning and Ken was brilliant sharing his knowledge of the area that he grew up in and where his heart most surely lies. We had some heavy showers but were well wrapped-up and it did not bother us a bit. In fact the trips that have weather are often more memorable that those with perfect weather. We recommend this trip to anyone. The path from the river to the bridge is well maintained and fairly easy.
P.
Really great experience! Jet boat to bridge to nowhere! The local guide was great, loved the history talk on the bridge complete old photos to look at. On the way home the guide even spun the boat which was cool!
W.
A very pleasant place to stay and wonderful hosts, the jet boat trip was great fun and very informative. Would highly recommend
S.
Great day out. Friendly guides. Learn about history of the place and the old river highway.
A.
Fantastic trip. Loved it! Staff were extremely hospitable and gave us a lot of information on the tour. Really good trip!
S.
Awesome experience. Thanks to Ken who did a fabulous job in explaining the history of the place and kept an eye out for us while on the canoe. Highly recommend this day trip and great for families.
N.
We took the Jet boat up river for 12.5km and then paddled an open Canadian canoe back down to the start point. It was a great trip that took about 4 hours all up. The jet boat ride was great, flying up the shallow grade 1 or 2 rapids. We took a very relaxing 3 hrs to paddle back down the river including a lunch stop. there were about 8 small rapids, with only one that had waves that were a bit big for an open Canadian canoe. The canoe filled with water on that rapid but we stayed upright. Unfortunately the "waterproof" drum provided is difficult to seal and water got in and wrecked our camera. So be warned, if you take a camera - waterproof it separately. Dry bag, zip lock bag etc.
The camp site behind the office was very nice and good facilities and good value.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
C.
Two mature ladies.... and we had a fantastic day. Forget Queenstown, this tour and the incredible Whanganui River beats it, hands down! Our guide was excellent, the river trip was spectacular and the walk to the “bridge to nowhere” was awesome. This is a must do trip for every New Zealander.
S.
Awesome day out! Highly recommended. Very authentic kiwi experience. Ken is a great guide with lots of local knowledge and very capable boat driver. Fun day for any age group and good value for the money.
G.
Amazing 3 days out in the back blocks and even better with no cell phone coverage 😊😊😊
O.
Way above expectations. We booked another company for a 3 day canoe trip, but they didn’t have us scheduled properly in their system and couldn’t take us. They called down the road to WRA, who graciously added us to their roster and sent us off on an amazing journey!
They are very safety conscious and sent each canoe with spot beacons, gave us great video and verbal preparation, and were right where they said they would be exactly on time to meet us at the end of three days. We were short one sleeping bag and they had a warm 10 NZD rental sleeping bag. When we got back to the outfitter to unload, they had hot drinks, biscuits, and sausages for everyone.
Definitely would recommend them to others.
N.
Great day out. The whole family loved it.
J.
What a great adventure. Very efficient and friendly and informative. I felt 100% safe with the competence of the jet boat driving. We had a great day out!
A.

What a beautiful place for site views and the jet boat ride was amazing.. The local people were really hospitable and friendly.. I am looking forward to the next visit. Thank you Kenneth, Josephine and your lovely daughter's for a wonderful experience and great memories 👍👌🌉
V.
Wonderful location. Great staff. River Knowledge. Well priced bunk accomodation. Jet Boat Tours, Canoe hire and drop off. Cycle track pick ups from Bridge to Knowwhere. A must place to visit.
L.
A great day on the whanganui river. Did the jet boat + bridge to nowhere + canoe. The river is beautiful and the canoeing was easy and fun! In one of the rapids we didn't understand that the water was very shallow so for a few moments we were stuck on bedrock until we managed to push ourselves out. We should have followed the others who bypassed it lol
V.
Great tour to the Bridge to nowhere - Ken was great with personal knowledge and local awareness. Would recommend it to anyone.
P.
Campgroung 3/5 : Correct for the price. Cost is cheap so you can’t expect the perfection. Toilets only, no showers. Clean but small kitchen for everybody. Large space to put the tents or the campervans so we were not too close from each other. Too much wasp. No Free Unlimited Wifi.
Jet Boat 5/5 : We took the Jet Boat to the walk to the bridge to Nowhere and return by kayak for 12km. Really nice day, friendly guide, amazing views. Several details about the history of the bridge (maybe more explanations about Pre-European period on the river would be interesting). However, like everywhere in NZ the price is too high.
W.
Spectacular trip (Bridge to Nowhere) best guide and operator in the area bar none. Don't hesitate, this is the best
R.
People who belong to this beautiful river. They share their stories and historical knowledge of the area. Wonderful people. Enjoy
t.
Such an amazing experience. Staff were very friendly and had a lot of knowledge. Recommend this tour to everyone who loves the great outdoors.
N.
Awesome evening under the stars listening to corny jokes and being spellbound by glow worms! Make sure you take warm clothes for the trip back down river.... and order a canoe with a back on the seat. Your back will thank you for it 😊
S.

T.
Best value Jet boating in NZ! Josie and Ken are the best! Wonderful guides and stories!
M.
Awesome day out. Canoeing was a bit slow going but definitely a must do.
A.
Great time that we've spend going to the bridge to nowhere in jet-boat, then coming back in canoe. Specially in the fifty-fifty. Expensive (but after a while in New Zealand, we are used to that)
M.
I like the road the sense is good it will be better in summer time for the barbecue but no road kill my joke thanks mark

Fabulous day by jetboat, walk and canoe. Whanganui river adventures were extremely helpful in organizing this for us.
B.
Ken's local knowledge is the secret ingredient to his jetboat guided tours on the awa, with plenty of history and stories thrown in . We really enjoyed our walk up to the Bridge to Nowhere. What a super special place to visit.
Would love to return and use the little campground at Pipiriki as a base for further exploration.
Seeing the awa valley from Ken's jet boat was a truly magical part of our Forgotten World Adventures 'Rhine of the Pacific' Tour.
T.
Great day out on the jet boat ride and walk to the "Bridge to nowhere". Excellent guide, thoroughly recommend.
D.
(Translated) Due to the shortness of time, we did not make a 3-day cruise down the river. Instead we took a successful but not cheap combination. 32 km up river in a racing boat. An hour's walk to The Bridge to Nowhere and 22 km down the river in a racing boat and then a final 10 km canoeing down the river to the starting point. All together about 7 hours. Fantastic day.
(Original)
