When visiting the Coromandel peninsula, the Cathedral Cove is one scenic location you must visit. The only 2 ways to access Cathedral Cove is via walking track &/or the water taxi. It's a nice hike through a bit of NZ native bush, with a beautiful view of the ocean, & you'll probably be lucky enough to see some native birds too.
It took me less than an hour to reach the cove. You can take your bathers & a picnic (no shops on location) with you & spend the day there basking in the sun & swimming.
If you wish, you can choose to catch the water taxi back to Hãhei for a small fee $15 adults $10 child each way.

A fast way to go to the cathedral cove which only takes 10 minutes. The boat was small but very clean. The photo is of their tickets which was really cool and environmental friendly.
Remember to find the staff on the beach to buy tickets earlier during peak season and public holiday.

Edit: admittedly there was a potential thunderstorm watch which didn't eventuate, I was still salty but their fb response made me laugh
They decided a month in advance that sea conditions would be unfavourable over 5-7th Jan & wouldn't operate, it was almost too hot & calm to walk the track those days

Hayden went above and beyond to cater to us today, and I couldn’t recommend Cathedral Cove Water Taxi highly enough. Prompt, professional, and a lovely ride to Cathedral Cove and back with care and attention to detail.

Always a great option if you want to go to and from cathedral cove in style. A bit pricier this year at $20 per adult oneway

Amazing place, huge waves
Walk coming back up the stairs hard on my knees

My children, grandchildren and I went to the Cathedral Cove during Auckland day holiday. We were all so excited to see the Cathedral cove, experience catching the water taxi and enjoy swimming with in the Cathedral Cove beach. But we were all frustrated because there was no water taxi operating on that day. Despite of my age and my knee problem I forced myself to walk through the mountain just to make my family happy and to at least achieve their purpose. The Cathedral Cove is really a very wonderful place to visit, but I believe that it is quite far for some old people with knee problem and for the family with young children to carry to walk to the place. My suggestion for these people is to catch the water taxi (if available) and enjoy.

I caught this taxi back to Hahei Beach its a very quick trip from cathedral to Hahei Beach felt like 5 minutes. The taxi back and forth is 30minutes takes up to 12ppl at a time. Was worth it when your really buggered after a long day
