Reviews of Veterinary Specialists Aotearoa

The Christchurch Vet specialist Aotearo is located at 146 Aintigua st, by Disraeli st. Excellent service, staff, communication. Super helpful. Thanks for trying to save my puppy

We are so incredibly grateful for the care this amazing vet gave our little girl Falon. While she unfortunately didn't make it, we knew she was in the best hands possible with these guys. Her vets kept us updated on her progress and were absolutely lovely. Dr Izzy MacEwan went above and beyond to help try to save our baby and we couldn't be more thankful. It was obvious how much love and passion you all had for the animals.
Thank you all so much, we appreciate the amount of care and time you put into our little girl. We received nothing but the best from you.

We have had 2 fur babies be seen and treated by the amazing vet staff at Sylvia Park VSA team. They were nothing short of professional and caring. Unfortunately both of our pets had cancer and there was nothing that could be done to save them. Dr Richard Jerram, the vet nurses and the rest of the staff at VSA are some of the kindest and supportive vets we have dealt with. I would not hesitate in recommending VSA to anyone.

I have to admit, my vet (Rob Gordon) is my favourite vet in the world. He detected osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in my dog Buddy's leg in April 2019 through sheer diligence and referred me to the team at VSA for biopsy. On 17 March 2019 the team at VSA performed an amputation, followed by chemotherapy. Buddy has taken to life on 3 legs like a duck to water. His recovery was smooth, if you want the very best complex vet care VSA is the place to go. The staff are absolutely wonderful and I am beyond greatful for their expertise and kindness. It wasn't a cheap exercise by all means, but my boy is still going strong with no signs of cancer. Thank you so much!

Alastair, Erin and all of the Nursing & Reception Team at VSA Christchurch have been AMAZING. The level of care and ongoing support throughout the Surgical, Recover and Rehabilitation process has been second to none. They show a genuine love and car for your pet at all times. Thank you all at VSA.

My little pup had a really rough night and had puked for a while. Our normal vets had no bookings available, so we landed up here at sylvia park stricken with worry. The wait was a little long, but when we did end up with Dr. Hazel Tai, she was very very nice. I have barely come across such professional and nicer GPs! I highly recommend this place for any emergency and specialist treatments. Thank you, Dr. Tai and team! X

You saved my dog Tilly's life! Thank you Dr Cleary! I realised my dog was in trouble and I rushed her to Veterinary Specialists Auckland where Dr. Hannah Cleary and her expert team quickly discovered fluid around Tilly's heart... they removed the fluid...kept safe watch on her overnight and were able to get her back home on medications until further tests can be done. Thank you so much for your excellent service and care everyone.

You can't put a value on the life of your pet. Having had our dog Hugo for about 8 months we noticed a few things weren't right with him. After numerous amounts of trips to our vet in Christchurch we were finally introduced to Alastair and the VSA team. The care advise and support provided from the very first contact has been exceptional to say the least. We had to get our dog from Christchurch to Auckland for his operation which at first seemed like an impossible mission. It simply wasn't using Air New Zealand this was an extremely easy task and I would strongly encourage anyone who does want true care for their pet to consider this no mater where in the country they live. From the moment I meet Alastair he explained exactly what was going to happen during the operation. I had complete piece of mind. Our dog was away for a week and we were updated not just with phone calls but also images. The passion Alastair has for animals and their care is simply extraordinary. I can not thank Alastair and his team enough and would strongly recommend them.

I don’t think I can thank the team at VSA enough, the level of care, compassion and expertise shown by every member of the team is exceptional. True expert vets and wonderful people! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart

What a great team at Sylvia Park, they looked after my furbaby so well. Kept me informed about her progress every step. Special thanks to Vet Marina who went the extra mile.

Brought my pet dog to VSA yesterday night, awesome receptionist that could fit me in straightaway after my phone call. Got a detailed explanation and report from the friendly vet Hazel. Easy to approach and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended if you need to bring your pet for emergency services!!!!
Thank you team for the great service and high level of professionalism.

Thank you for taking care of our boy Max over the weekend!! You guys are amazing and provided our boy with the best care he could’ve received!

On Saturday evening (9ish), we were concerned with our cat (second day with her not eating much, and sleeping all day). We did a google search and VSA was the only one open. We called in and made the appointment. Doctor that looked at Indie was very professional, reliable and insightful. We left feeling relieved and armed with the knowledge on how to care for Indie. Facility was also very nice and clean. Definitely recommend for all your pet emergencies !!

I had to take my sick cat in, who unfortunately had to be put down.
The doctor was amazing.
She was empathetic, ran through my options without me feeling bad about choosing euthanasia and was so supportive, friendly, just really nice in a horrible situation.
It could not have been a better experience in the circumstances and I'm really, really thankful to her.

We phoned VSA over the weekend with concerns over our cat, Oscar who had a nasty bite wound - we received wonderful advice over the phone. We ended up taking our cat in to the Sylvia Park branch and we were looked after Dr H Lu. She was absolutely amazing. She had a calming presence and despite being in pain, our cat was relaxed and calm with her. Dr Lu was very caring and you could tell she truly cares and loves animals. She took her time examining Oscar and treating him and spent a great deal of time patiently explaining everything to us and answering our questions. I was very impressed and touched by her compassion and caring nature. Dr Lu explained the charges and checked it was all ok before proceeding which was good. She was not pushy and we really felt she went over and above particularly in an emergency when we were stressed and concerned. Very impressed!

Our border collie had eaten some snail poison and we had to rush to veterinary specialist Auckland. Hannah was absolutely brilliant and handled the whole situation very professionally.

We took our 18 year old cat to be put down as she had become unwell and although it was upsetting to say goodbye the team at VSA were very caring and kind. Thanks goes to the team at Sylvia Park, you do a great job and I highly recommend your services.

I ended up here with my poor cat whom I ran over by accident over Easter. I was extremely happy with the service I received. The staff were all very friendly, professional and had great communication. The vet we dealt with was thorough and knowledgeable. It was a very stressful day knowing I'd injured my poor pet, but the staff were really lovely. Thank goodness my cat is ok and used the first of his 9 lives. I am really grateful for the quality, honest care they provided. Thank you to the team at VSA.

Highly recommended! Our cat had minor surgery at our usual vet, but unfortunately the wound opened on a weekend when our vet was closed. VSA were so helpful and the team were extremely kind. It's very good to know VSA are there 24/7 to help. Thank you!

We have taken our puppy to VSA for two incidents, one being a broken leg. Their service was impeccable - the staff are all wonderful to deal with and thanks to their work our pup’s broken leg healed in the best possibly way after surgery. In a stressful situation it really put our mind at ease knowing our pup was getting the best care possible. Highly recommend VSA.

Great team with big hearts.
I was unfortunate enough to come across a deceased cat yesterday and decided I don't really know what to do! I called them for advice in a bit of a panic and they advised me to bring it in and we can check for a microchip and take it from there. Thank you for all your help!

Absolutely wonderful team as we had to go here overnight. The vet (I.M) our dog had was so lovely and so caring and patient towards our boy it was just an overall great experience aside from the reason we were there.
There was a long wait time which we were informed of as soon as we walked in the door as they were quite busy that night (which is understandable and our boys issue wasnt serious we were just pleased to know roughly how long it may take) so in that time I was able to just observe what was going on and with the different cases they had that came through the door all of their staff were wonderful, helpful, empathetic, informative and just overall a great team of professionals.
Not that I wish anyones fur babies to need to go to VSA, if that should happen I do highly recommend these guys.
The only thing I would recommend to VSA about their premises is - I saw a male come in looking stressed as his dog had been hurt, in his panic to get through the door he and his friend missed the sign at the base of the door advising people to push the bell once so he didnt know how to open the door, maybe another sign somewhere on the door at eye level would be helpful as he was looking around the door at the time so it may be seen a bit easier plus if the staff are on a case out the back it may make others think VSA is closed if they still dont see that sign at night time :)

"Last Thursday, we took our beloved 15-year-old Maltese to see them in the middle of the night after his condition has really worsened. Sadly, he didn’t make it through and was put down. Today we picked up the ashes from VSA. We were astounded that apart from the expected box containing the ashes they’ve also included a hand written card, a print of our dog’s paw and pinch of his hair.... It is never easy to say goodbye to someone you hold so dearly to your heart but the nice gesture VSA did has certainly helped. We were very impressed and touched by the kindness and compassion the doctor and the VSA team has shown. "

I found a hedgehog in the back yard, it was really sick, it has ticks in its ears. Poor thing...
The doctors are very nice and they got a basket with pillow inside, that’s all I see. The door was closed cuz it is during lockdown. The doctor bowed to me, that re so kind.
❤️

thanks to the team at VSA for preforming surgery on my bulldog who had Brachycephalic Obstructive airway syndrome. They looked after her very very well. We got plenty of updates while she was in there. Great team, amazing job !

Kristie is so helpful. You can always expect a quick response from them by email/call. Visited mid night but their staff were so friendly and patient.

VSA, you guys are like the All Blacks of pet care. The moment I walked in I knew my poor old pooch was in safe hands. Thank you all so much.
