I feel like I have won the yoga lotto discovering Karla Brodie and contemporary yoga. Having practiced yoga for 16 years I was pleasantly surprised by her educational, modern and transformational approach to teaching. I am more in my body and have far more tools in my yoga kit as a result of learning with Karla for the past year and a half. Her experience and ongoing research and study is evident in her skilful, intelligent and creative class experiences. I relish the inquiries she offers and have benefited immensely moving from the inside out. I find Karla to be an attentive, thoughtful, caring, sensitive and masterful teacher. In a sea of yoga offerings that seem to be more about how you look and what you can do - it is refreshing to find a class and teacher that really honours the body and mind in sound, informed and embodied ways.

Thursday night classes with Karla (the only one's I've been too) are decadent and indulgent!
This is not yoga like you know it - this is a combination of many modalities and years of Karla's refined style - and it shows.
These classes will bring you home to your body, soothe your soul and quieten your mind. Then you will walk out feeling energised and like a new person.
Karla has changed how I do yoga and how I understand and relate to my body.

Amazing space Contemporary Yoga at Remuera, the uniqueness of the teaching that Karla share will leave you positively overwhelmed in so many ways.
You will walk away deeply restored and nourished.
You will find whatever is missing in you.
Either is movements or stillness, you will find softness and deeper understanding of yourself through a thoughtful practice tailored for your own needs.
I had the pleasure and honour to meet Karla at her and Neal 's Contemporary teacher training where they share their deep knowledge and passion for yoga.

I have studied yoga with Karla for 18 years! She is a highly skilled teacher who's classes are engaging, warm, restorative and beautifully held by her kind and conscious approach.
I am constantly recommending Karla as one of the best yoga teachers I have encountered in my 26 year Yoga journey.

Karla has to be one of the most insightful yoga teachers in Auckland as well as one of the most highly regarded restorative yoga teachers in New
Zealand. Her classes are always inclusive, welcoming and cater for individual needs. I learn something new every time i attend one of her classes - both from an individual and teaching perspective.

Every yoga class with Karla is truly unique. In both restorative and active practice, Karla shares her growing wealth of yoga experience in an intuitive, experiential way, bringing yoga into everyday movement and awareness with an inspired sense of curiosity, wonder, and play.

Wow stunning yoga last night! So pleased Karla's classes have restarted for 2018. What a fabulous teacher - great teaching, amazing philosophy and practice. Karla creates a really rich atmosphere with a fantastic group of people to engage with and learn alongside.

I met Karla in 2015 and have been learning from her since. She is a knowledgeable teacher and a caring mentor who shares her own unique understanding of the Yoga practice.
Both her active and restorative classes are amazing! Highly recommended!

Loved Karla’s contemporary yoga class last Monday. She shared her philosophy, enthusiasm for working with ease and fluidity in our bodies and created an atmosphere of well-supported somatic exploration. Can’t wait to come again!

I went to a yoga teachers training course here and they were very good at covering the mental and spiritual concepts of yoga but incorporated very little physical aspects to doing your own yoga practice and teaching others about asanas. Heavily focused around passive (less active) yoga practices such as restorative yoga, and meditation which is great, but for those passionate about moving meditations, asanas, physical strength and flexibility, this course is not for you. The book the recommended us to invest in by Donna they only mentioned at the course that it was “out-dated” and “incorrect” as I was looking up how to do yoga postures from this book and they said it was incorrect in this book. Conflicting... I feel they did not consider people’s difference in bodies, such as my extreme flexibility that I was born with- the only tips they gave me to avoid long term injuries was to “pull back” and not be so flexible in my movements. I didn’t find this was constructive as I know there are ways to safely stretch and get into more flexible yoga poses without hurting yourself; as yogis have been doing for hundreds and hundreds of years. They made people aware of how too much flexibility can stress the joints, but did not help guide those who are flexible or want to be more flexible. I did the first half and some of the second half of the course and did all of the journaling and reading on the side but I still felt that there were some gaps missing even in the first half I feel they did not prep us to go and explore what we learnt over the following 6 weeks, I was left feeling very uncertain about what needed to be completed although I asked many times I was not given a specific answer. In my perspective, yoga teacher training courses should cater to each person they have at the course at the time, and I felt it was heavily one-way focused on teaching you how to create more peace and spirituality practice into your life without considering the difference in how others learn and choose practice their yoga/move their bodies. I am writing this review not out of spite, I’m writing it because I think it is fair people know how this course really is. I spent a lot of money towards this course and feel like I overpaid for the amount of support and knowledge I was given in the end. I have now again funded and signed up for another yoga teachers training course that I made sure covers all asanas and gives more information on how to build a yoga business. I see this course being great for those who are less active and want to stay that way, also great for people of the older generations. For young bodies bursting with energy and enthusiasm to move and build strength and flexibility (as well as calmness in the mind) this course is not the right choice.
-Karla in response to your reply I missed 3 hours in the first 100 hours of the course and I was given class Mates notes on what they went over and read over the module that the course was structured from the 3 hours I missed and still I don’t think this is the issue of me not feeling the course is designed/catered to different types of people.
