Awesome location so much to see and do here . Wish I had longer nice stroll from the beach all the way around to gardens . Parks water park. Skating rink outdoor exercise equipment. Skate park. Kids bike track. So neat .

What an enjoyable experience. Met a friend and enjoyed wandering through the area looking at sculptures and the war memorial. Enjoyed a Char with a Rollerblade team who appeared to be having such fun. Found the paddling pool that my children used when they were young. Well worth a wander through.

Beautiful park right next to the beach. Stunning small botanical gardens. Some educational signs around the gardens around the war in Europe and where the sea level once was. We went for the carnival which was a nice small type carnival.

Where you can go to relax, walk, run,bike, swim, skate, have lunch or just chill at playground with the kids. Can even watch the sunset, or stargaze. Plenty to do here

Such a beautiful place. A kind lady, who'd pointed out a seal to me first, helped me to get there, while I was out in Timaru, in an attempt to lose myself in nature. She showed me the area of the beach where penguins come at night to have their little beach party. I could see tiny footprints which I hoped belonged to a penguin or two. A path along the beach led to the cliffs, oh, those beautiful cliffs. A bridge above a railway track and a tiny unused lighthouse were the sights that greeted me there. I do wish the lighthouse was open for the public. It'd give an even greater perspective, I think. A small path from the cliff led onto another cozy part of the bay. A wide selection of small to large round pebbles could be found there. Another bridge that extended into the sea gave an absolutely graceful view of the sea. The sea changed its colors from light blue to shades of green and dark blue. Altogether, it was a peaceful and beautiful day out there, in the midst of nature. Hope to see some penguins next time!

A collection of grounds, parks and gardens leading towards the beach and sand dunes. A beautiful site, and a must see for tourists and/or people driving through the town. A large staircase and viewing platform leads you to the inner town centre and the main shopping strip with local cafe's, shops and restaurants. There is also a wharf (close to the port/shipping area) to walk down, for further exploring. Whole thing would take less than an hour, longer if you're planning on staying at the beach and having a picnic.

Nice and quite city with pleasant atmosphere. Thou I have not spent much time here but it was good. The garden here is very good if you want to spend some time with your family. There is a rose garden inside it and a bird sanctuary with swimming pool, basketball court, lawn tennis court and many more grounds with a beach alongside. They also have a nice paling space for all types of vehicle including RVs .

Tacky and dated to the max (when was the last time the rides were safety inspected?) but kids love it, the playground is reasonably fun and all the grass is lush, pretty much any activity kids could ever want to fill out an afternoon or morning. The theme park rides range between $2-6 dollars for all depending on how crazy they are!!!!

Beautiful Park for all ages of different moods. Can go for a stroll along the beach, trek through rocks and spot mussels and search for tiny sea creature or skateboard or swim or camp or fly a kite or simply hold hands with a loved one. You can breathe goodness in every square inch of this place.

Caroline Bay is a lovely beach, with extensive parklands, gardens, playgrounds, rides, minigolf and other activities. Definitely worth stopping off here if you are passing through Timaru and you want a break to stretch the legs or let the kids burn off some excess energy. The whole area is beautifully laid out, the gardens are colourful and tidy and the beach is great for swimming in the summer. I recommend that you check this out.

Loved the memorial walkway paying respects to our soldiers, especially Victoria Cross recipients. Caroline Bay walk was also worth doing. Well done Timaru.

Nice little holiday park fronted by a sandy beach.l went down to the beach between showers and had a rejuvenating walk after a liquid lunch. I wasn't looking where I was going and got surprised by a large seal basking about 50m from the incoming tide. I was some way away but between it and the water. It seems that penguins can also be seen there but I saw none. There is an aviary in the park grounds, which were now deserted due to a downpour, so I went into to teach the parrots to talk. Waste of time..dumb clucks.

Caroline Bay is such an excellent place to visit. It's lovely to just walk around the Bay and then back up to the shops. While we used the stairs, it is the first place I've seen such a lift. We still haven't managed to visit when the Rose Garden has been in full bloom so no doubt we will return. Caroline Bay is kept very clean, tidy and well looked after. Take time to walk up to the Blackett's LIghthouse. It is one of the few remaining timber lighthouses in New Zealand.

What an interesting place. The dune was covered with plants. For keeping this nice place, don't get to the plants. Right next is an industrial area for shipping so you can see lots containers. Back way is linked to a village on the hills .

A bit disappointing this year. No sizzzler ride, side shows were a terrible rip off. Ok food sites. Merry go round was broken.

Nice park and beach. But, there is also a walk by the port with some interesting houses. The rock and old industrial buildings give Timaru an unique atmosphere and it shows how people used to care about the design of their factories. Unfortunately it doesn’t apply anymore.

Great park, Big green lawns but a bad disc golf course. Some of the holes did not have t pads and others were not numbered. The layout was hard to follow and I did not find all of the holes.

Great for a short gateaway especially kids. look our for a food truck named The Food Den for gluten-free foods! A lil pricey for the portion but it’s yummy. Note that there’s $0.25 surcharge for etpos!

We didn’t visit much, just came here when the holiday park reception suggested we could watch penguins here. So we came and waited after sunset. When it is almost total dark,The penguins did came back to shore and next to the bushes and make noises and some even stand so close to us. They were very small. So cute.

Beautiful bay, located in Timaru, with its golden sands and dunes covered in tussocks and foliage, paths leading to children's parks, a swimming pool, a avery and the sound shell, bustling and fun in the summer time when the carnival is in town.

The Caroline bay park has a beach. The beach is not really "fashionable" with the wet, dark sand the whole beach. Though the park has a mini gold, playground and a paddling pool. It also has a port to see near the is park. There is a decent scenery.

Great spot. Plenty to do when the carnival is on - amusement rides, food, side shows. Almost all the sideshows have the same prizes to offer though which is a bit boring e.g. Roses chocs, boxes of Favourites, big bags of cheap pineapple lumps etc. The best prizes are the soft toys from the kids lucky number place like this rainbow puppy I won.

Cool beach. Bathrooms are great. The carnival wasn’t super amazing or fun, but it was still cool. Great running trails along the cliff edge. Overall a lovely place to be. They also have outdoor exercise equipment, an awesome playground, and an aviary. The boardwalk snaking around the beach is lovely too. I would recommend spending a spring day here, picnicking and flying kites.

Amazing. We used the free BBQ at the kids water park before heading over to the beach for a dip. The cold shower was great to remove most of the sand before getting dressed and heading home. Will be doing it a lot more frequently

Great playground facilities for the family, with kids of all ages from skate park to a toddler playground to small shaded pool area to cool off, and a recently added bike skills park. Benches to sit down and have a lunch or a picnic on the very large lawn, beware of the seagulls they are quite cheeky there. Very good to let your kids burn off some of that energy they always seems to have to spare. 😃

Best carnival we have been to in years. Very affordable and great community spirit. We then crossed over to marine parade and got to watch 2 adult penguins come into feed their chicks. Totally loved it, such an awesome experience watching wildlife in their natural habitats.

Great place for families. Awesome playground and the rides at Xmas time we're fun. Good pubs nearby with great food and drinks. The live music at the sound shell was amazing, everyone was up dancing and having a good time. Highly recommended!

Caroline Bay is much more than the Carnival. Having literally grown up on The Bay returning 30 yrs later I'm impressed. Successive Councils have sculpted the Bay area including the Carnival. The different options for parking, picnic areas and general recreation have increased ten fold. Everything blends with the natural environment. Top Marks!

Open at Christmas and special weekends, the amusement Park is a great place to visit. Rides don't cost the earth, but cues can be long. There is mini golf and a miniature train to entertain too (these have more extensive opening times throughout the year) . There's a fantastic kids playground, a paddling pool, picnic areas, gardens, walks, and they're all close to the beach and aquatic center.

Had a great afternoon. Was somewhat a trip back in time but great for families & not all the entertainment was expensive. Caroline Bay & surrounding area looks lovely, great job guys. The 2pm concert was excellent & no charge, not a music festival but great family experience. Also you must try the crepe /waffle caravan, really good.

I take my grandkids here a lot. It's a great place for kids and adults alike. At the park there is heaps for kids to do plus an awesome bird Avery that you learn about birds. Great carnivals and guy faulks held here plus gypsy fairs. It's got clean facilities and it's just a great place to go

Excellent park and place to stop when travelling. Excellent playground for a range of ages and a paddling pool. Also a mini railway to enjoy and mini putt. Of course the carnival with all the rides operate around the summer holidays.

Beautiful area! We stayed a few nights in Timaru, and would 100% recommend going! There was so much interesting stuff to explore and enjoy! (The aviary is wonderful, and the rose garden was very beautiful!)

Beautiful beach with well maintained board walks to protect dunes. Well looked after tennis courts as well as a basketball court and bike polo rink. Best thing is that everything is free!

This team does a great job year after year. They continue to provide great performances and we commend them for their efforts. This is a volunteer organization and carnival and we enjoy driving from Christchurch to visit every year. Keep up the hard work. Nice to see a few younger ones joining your ranks too.

Wharf is a little run down - a couple of boards missing, and one end of the what is closed off. The sand in the main Bay seems tidy, white sand unlike West coast beaches I'm used to. Water is clean, and boating facilities are tidy.

We walked to the edge of the barrier to read the signs and followed the instruction to stay off the beach and view from the foot path. When the persons in high vis talk to you make sure you listen as they are there so the penguins are safe and you still get the best viewing opportunity! At dark we saw 2 little babies come out from their rocky nest and honestly to be that close to something so rare to NZ was really special. Didnt take many pictures as didnt want to scare the little guy. Some person next to us was taking pictures which shon a red light at the penguin - PLease don't use flash photography! Awesome experience.

One of the gems in Timaru's tiara. Great playground for all age children, well stocked and cared for aviary, plus halls, toilets ice cream, mini golf and a train. The area also boasts a world renowned rose garden, war battle plaques, it is well planted with established plants at all levels (from ground cover to trees). Well formed paths take you to every corner. The beach area is big enough for most activities and includes beach volleyball courts and penguins. All this a literal stone's throw from the main street.

Love this place went there whilst visiting Timaru for the day, lovely atmosphere, great for families, great for everyone, but my husband and I were disappointed in all the no dog signs everywhere, we have a small dog which we keep on the lead at all times & pick up his poops, it would be nice to be able to take him through the park without any worry as he goes everywhere with us. Allowing dogs would be a fantastic idea, as long as they are kept on their leash all the time whilst in the park and picking up the dog mess. Apart from that Caroline Bay is a fantastic place to visit.

Go at night in the right season to see the little blue penguins! They arrived at 10:40pm when we stayed there. There is a free camp spot next to the bay, so it's ideal if you are sleeping in your car (no tents, self contained only)

Nostalgic visit with family. Spent many a summer enjoying the fun fair and free music. Miss the lost innocence of Miss & Mrs Golden Shears and Miss Caroline Bay. Too political correct now for such simple enjoyment ...

We started at the Plaza, went down to through the gardens, through the bird cages & ended up at the park. My five children get good exercise coming here! During summer of course there is always the carnival/fare. I haven't swam in the beach yet we usually go to the Caroline bay (indoor) pool. From the top of the South 'Nelson' down to Timaru, these two towns definitely have the better pools now.

Great place to have a walk along the beach on the boardwalk,have a swim in the sea. Great for kids especially with the covered paddling pool with picnic area and play area. Play area could be expanded a bit to include more play equipment for younger children. Loads of free parking and close to the aquatic centre. Theres a rose garden area to explore. Mini train to ride and rides during the christmas period. Theres tennis couts and loads of space to relax and breath in the clean sea air.

Caroline bay one of the most beautiful little city coastal scenic beach side areas up in down the east coast between Christchurch and Queenstown,,. Top location to visit and spend hours lounging bye the sea..An enclosed bay that misses a lot of the grey cloud cover,,close walk around the town..

Best place in Timaru for recreation, wether it is children paddling, mini golf, mini train rides, young people swimming or surfing, jogging, walking, boating, kite flying, beach volleyball, blue penguin watching, or concerts in the sound shell. Best of all is the two week free concerts around Christmas and New Year, and family priced amusements.

Steadily upgraded over the years. We use it mainly for motorhome travelling purposes and it's well equipped for that, with PDS and water/showers. Spacious, good parking. Nice walk up steps to Timaru town centre.

Posibly one of NZs best family area beaches definitely the best in the south island. There is a huge number if things to do, basket ball, playground, ice cream, history, rose garden, rollerskating, fair over new years, tennis, large grass area, paddling pool for young kids, so much more!

Great beach for swimming, lazing on the sand and the penguins were a best kept secret, not mentioned in many guide books. We stood on Marine Parade and were about 20 feet from them as they came ashore.

Decent location, watch for some places. Big health and safety issues around the rotting jettie. Unfortunately wished it had a decent jetty or marina to walk on. No decent place for your boat to be moored while visiting the town or refuling. Local simple Jettie is a bit health and safety issues seems to be ignored.

A multitude of nice places to admire the bay in the winter, and in summer it's a great place to cool off. With a playground and skate park it's got all the things.

Caroline Bay is clean, tidy, and worth a visit. It might be a long wait, but to go to the beach at sunset and lookout for the Blue Penguins is a great experience.

The summer Carnival is great. Well worth the visit and enjoy the various events that are held.

We wanted to go Oamaru but wrongly set the GPS went here. Luckily we can have a visit here to see the beautiful shore track as well as the garden.

Some fun rides but had to wait almost an hour for some of the rides to start which is not fair on the kids when it was the only reason we traveled to Timaru!

Very nice are, stunning scenery, and Little Blue Penguins coming in in the evenings. Be prepared thought it gets chilly and they do come in late.

Always great going to Caroline Bay Carnival, with all the rides for the kids (and us big kids) and they still have the good old side shows, food options get better every year and music performances always good
