Reviews of The Herb Farm

The garden was a bit sad looking, needed some TLC, the idea was great with fairies and gnomes though. Cafe operating on contactless orders . My vaccine pass not required. You can still sit there.
K.
I love the Herb Farm, it always has such great service and amazing food & coffee. The outdoor seating and spaces are always such a great place to relax or catch up with friends. The retail shop has so many beautiful products, I highly recommend them. I love finishing off with a walk through their stunning gardens, even if it is raining. A must go to spot.

The Herb Farm is one of our most favorite places to go. The service is amazing, the food delicious and the atmosphere is relaxing and calm. Sitting out in the garden is blissful. Last visit was with our immunocompromised adult daughter. She felt completely safe at all times with the measures they have in place for takeaway service. Highly recommend it.

Had an awesome experience at the Herb Farm this week, it's great that it's one of the very few restuarants not discriminating and that they have managed to find ways around the mandates with their new setup. My food was delicious and the customer service was lovely. It's refreshing to go somewhere and see happy staff not having to wear masks. My son loves the fairy walk. It's so nice being able to eat out in the peaceful setting rather than the hustle bustle of town.

I've always loved the herb farm, and have been many times and had many enjoyable experiences there. I'm grateful for the warm, friendly, family home feeling that has been created. I do find that I'm not visiting as often these days, I don't enjoy the food/drinks in boxes experience and feel that the quality of experience has been affected. I also feel that the implementation of the 'inclusive approach' has made it more difficult and excluding for other vulnerable groups, including immune compromised, younger children and those with mobility issues. I can't walk easily, and find it difficult to easily move around at the cafe now, ordering, finding a seat, going back in to collect food etc. I appreciate the inclusive philosophy, but feel that the approach being taken is not really 'inclusive', and that the herb farm are not listening well enough to people who are thoughtful valued customers. It's disappointing. I know that covid makes things difficult for many, but it will be nice to enjoy the old herb farm one day because I know that what you have created is amazing.

The shop at The Herb Farm is fascinating with top customer service from well-informed, friendly staff (a definite 5!). The outside eating area and walks are lovely and picnic blankets provided are a lovely touch. It was the food and drinks that lowered my score. The falafel wrap I had was messy and not very tasty. The mango and turmeric smoothie should be avoided if you are wanting a pleasant tasting drink. Everything looked great but the flavours just weren’t there.
J.
Wow, amazing setting, fast friendly service and good food. Felt completely safe in the wide open environment with well spaced areas. Did not feel like I was sitting on a strangers lap like the cafes in the concrete jungle of PN, lots of space instead.
The birds and butterflies fluttering around added to the experience. Loved the scenic and child friendly walk after. Also ended up purchasing some plants as well.
Love that you are all inclusive and standing strong while still operating safely. Definitely worth the drive out.

Wow what an amazing place this is! Incredible food that catered well for children. It had a great family friendly vibe with an amazing outdoor seting. The kids really loved the fairy and knome garden setting. It really was a gem of a find and we were so glad we decided to stop by! DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT take any notice of the comment below mine regarding their takeaway option. It is so refreshing to have business's adopt this new way of ordering food which does not discriminate people based on medical grounds. Well done 'The Herb Garden' you have an amazing place and don't change anything! If people below want to live in fear they can stick to their own shell and let others get on with living life! Good on you for not promoting segregation like so many others willingly adopting in this present day and age. Bless you all 👍

Such a stunning location to visit and relax.
Amazing, friendly service.
Tasty, nourishing food and superb coffee.
Can't wait to visit again soon for a walk and explore through the extensive gardens with our children.

We were pretty disappointed with the paper box experience, it's just not something you would want to pay that kind of money for and really takes away from the dining experience. These measures don't make sense any more - in an Omicron context where most of your clients are fully vaccinated. You're cutting your vaccinated visitors short, and I don't see how you are protecting unvaccinated people - it's not a take away, you are still sitting in.

Highly recommend the herb farm. Love taking the kids there for a feed and a walk through the beautiful high vibration forest. Amazing staff and food. Our no1 place to eat. Thank you herb farm 🙏🏼🙂

Beautiful setting, excellent quality food and coffee, great service. A great spot to stop on the way through!

This was our first visit to The Herb Farm.. we were looking for a cafe this morning well away from main shops. Google suggested this cafe. Highly impressed, I had the French Toast. Visually I thought it might be sickly sweet but it was anything but. Food was beautiful. Presentation awesome. Thanks will visit again.

The herb farm is about 20 minutes drive from Palmerston North, tucked away in the farmlands between Ashhurst and Bunnythorpe. Parking area is gravel and close to the building. The gardens are amazing to see with a descent variety of herbs planted about. They do have a meeting room available. There is also a spa beauty shop. Their Cafe is well laid out with good seating options. The service can be slow during busy times, we had our orders taken at our group booked table which was good however had to wait in line for 20 minutes before we could pay upon leaving. Their menu pricing is on the higher end. I ordered a herb farm big breakfast, which was delicious but overall think an extra slice of bread as I only got one slice with two eggs and another mushroom would match the price. The eggs Benedict looked lovely too with lots of hollandaise, the other dishes order at the table also looked lovely. Coffee was good, perhaps a bit small but did not ask for a large. The Bottles of water filled with Mexican Marigold was a real treat. The view out to the blue gum tree was lovely with fantails birds flying about. It is definitely worth visiting and can be the perfect romantic spot for couples.

This was my first visit here. My daughter who found this place online for me and arranged for the products for my wife who has Leukemia . It is the most amazing place . Well worth the effort to go. The people / staff are amazing , great atmosphere, good range of products, and the coffee also is great.
D.
Such a cute cafe !!! Love the atmosphere and the space !! The food and coffee was great , and very friendly staffs :) they have a garden you can walk around and a beauty shop. It’s more than just a cafe, so it is definitely a great place for families , friends and an ideal date haha
M.
Stunning setting, relaxed atmosphere, beautiful food and lovely shop with lots of goodies. Thank you for being inclusive, we will be back again soon!
J.
Love the Herb farm. Lovely staff and such a welcoming place. Food is amazing even when served in a cardboard box.
S.
Thus place is an hour and a half from my home but I've been more than a few times now and have always enjoyed my visit. It's a beautiful place with expansive gardens and indoor and outdoor tables. Not a place to go to eat and run more suited to a relaxed meal and something to drink. There's a shop for your natural remedies and you can buy plants too. Highly recommend taking the time to visit you won't be disappointed ☺
V.
An easy 5 star from us. Thank you for being inclusive ❤ meant so much. The ambiance was lovely, the setting just beautiful. Definitely coming back
F.
Lovely isolated cafe with great food and nice forest trails with different themes. The food and drinks came out pretty quick (we went on Sunday morning) and staff were lovely.
Chai latte was a bit too milky and we thought the grounds could have been better kept in the off season. There weren’t many available tables when we went, but this was only because one section had been booked out for a group.
F.
Enjoyed a very relaxed lunch with family at the Herb Farm. The food was delicious.
Prompt service. We even indulged in some Rator rub. They stock a good selection of local product including Mason Brothers honey.
H.
Absolutely love the Herb Farm. Amazing food and beautiful gardens. The kids also love the wee fairy walk 🧚♀️ one of my favorite summer locations 🥰
t.
magical. lovely and unique. very popular and great looking food. good place for little and big kids.
R.
Breakfast was great! Haven't been to many cafés with an outside play area and basket of toys for kids. We'll visit again!
S.
Beautiful place, people and food. Amazing atmosphere, left my family with good memories to treasure
Z.
Cute place. Nice food. Nothing extraordinary, but it is a nice place to go for a Sunday breakfast.
It has a bit of park so you can walk around after breakfast. There is a shop as well where you can buy lots of random things such as teas, books, candles, honey etc.
O.
Products are very pleasant to use and effective. The moisturizer for men feeds the skin without leaving of oily film. The lavender and calendula shampoo washes smoothly and leaves light and brilliant hair. The sleep well cream is pleasant to use, I do not sleep yet 8 hours in a row but already 5 hours it is good!!
M.
Delightful setting, with yummy ginger slice, hot coffee, and herb shop with testers to try the products before you can buy them
L.
Wonderful food and vibe. Thank you for creating a place for all to enjoy.
R.
Went here with family for brunch today. Service was absolutely terrible. We stood at the counter being ignored for a good 5-10mins while all the wait staff walked past and around us. The staff were slow, had no idea what each other were doing or what tables had been waited on and disorganised, seeming to miss table orders and delivering the wrong food to tables. When the food arrived to our table (after a 30-40min wait) the food was delicious, but cold. Very disappointed and will not be returning.
E.
A New Zealand Gem, kick back, relax and enjoy a delicious meal, browse their large selection of 100% pure skin products then explore the enchanted forest. Something for everyone young and old, you won't be disappointed.
C.
Love this place. The cafe is great with amazing food & wine and in such beautiful surroundings. Their products are "THE BEST". When I buy online 1. The website is easy to use.
2. I receive my order within 1 - 2 days
3. The VIP points I receive when ordering soon add up and I receive extra goodies or discounts
4. The products are gorgeous and natural, great for sensitive skin
s.
It's on firsttable so I really can't complain. Would have been cost me over $40 for brunch for two normally and it actually cost me less than $30. The portions and quality were really good and I love to support business brave enough to try out firsttable so give this place a try if you are out that way. or make a firsttable booking and enjoy something you normally can't afford.
A.
Turned up for lunch after walking/running Manawatu gorge walk with group of friends. Great food, most plates were eaten clean. Recommend.
B.
Had a wonderful Birthday lunch for my lovely wife Valerie here on the 26/7/2018. Nice sunny day, but chilly. Warm inside the outdoor area with the sides down & heaters going though !
Magnificent Steak open sandwich, perfectly cooked rare/medium, salad & fries.
Val had a scrummy Kumara Bake, looked fantastic.
Love coming here, the peace & quiet, the birds, the Herb Garden etc, AND the Yummy Food !

I've always loved the Herb Farm and have been going there since it first started many years ago. I've had many wonderful family gatherings there as well as quieter meals with friends and family. It's a place I often recommend. The products are great and I've had them sent to me whilst I've been living overseas. The ambience of the place is lovely and I'm really enjoying its proximity now I'm back in Palmy. I've also used the beautician services, which were excellent. I've seen the Herb Farm go through different cafe menus over the years and am writing today after having an experience of the latest new menu. Its NOT GOOD and I'm going to suggest you make some changes as I'm doubting a return visit for a while, which would be a shame as its one of my favourite places to eat and visit.
I recently attended for a mid week lunch with two colleagues, ordering the bruschetta as I was after something light. The bread was nicely toasted, and the traditional bruschetta dressing had a pleasant sharp flavour, but sliced buffalo mozarella piled on top accompanied with oodles of sliced lovely fresh tomatoes did not make a pleasant bruschetta. The cheese and tomato need to be integrated, and the cheese at least needs to have some heat applied. How bland is sliced mozarella? Extremely bland! Like eating plastic. As far as taste was concerned, and manageability of eating (tomatoes falling off everywhere), both were compromised, and disappointing. I fully support the freshness of the ingredients, particularly the tomatoes, but your bruschetta needs a dollop of sophistication. Try some bruschettas around town - there are some good ones, or do a more authentic Italian version with the lovely fresh ingredients. One of my colleagues left half her meal (usually unheard of at the Herb Farm) as her large pile of Maori potatoes smothered in some kind of creamy dressing, was completely bland and tasteless. I tried some and agreed with her. My other colleague had a stuffed potatoe from the cabinet that she said was fine. I did see some other meals being delivered also covered with the chopped fresh tomatoes and am still wondering - what's with all the tomatoes? I love tomatoes so might enjoy such a big fresh pile, but they don't suit everyone, and although they added great colour, their purpose wasn't clear, plus as far as presentation goes they just didn't look great.
I'm still giving the Herb Farm 4 stars as others might be enjoying the new menu, and I certainly still support the business - plus not everything has changed - the cakes and slices are fantastic, including the gluten free options - plus there is more to the Herb Farm than just the Cafe. I have seen the Herb Farm make good and effective changes before, and expect they will again. Please do take a closer look at the new menu and maybe do a survey to see if its working.

Its a really nice layout and environment but the grounds and flowers seem to be a tad neglected with a number of dead flowers hindering the vista as opposed to enhancing it.
We had to sit outside due to all the inside tables being reserved. However, with a 10.30am arrival we were done and dusted within 1.5hrs and 80% of the reserved tables were still vacant. They could have offered an inside table with a mention of it being reserved at midday - giving us plenty of time to eat and soak up the morning sunshine.
We were also unable to order from the a la carte menu because "we are worried we will run out of food for our bookings" (Eggs Bene and French Toast sounded gooood). Sure, first dibs to your Mothers Day bookings but it felt a bit under prepped and we were left feeling underwhelmed.
The Salmon Roulade and Filo parcel were tasty, presented beautifully and the side salad garnish was excellent.
It is a very relaxing setting has great potential if some of the finer points can be polished.

Have recently discovered Herb Farm facial moisturisers. Love the product and that it is in a glass jar. But...the plastic seal under the lid, could that not be cardboard instead herb farm ??
F.
Buttermilk and Blueberry pancakes were great - delicious and filling. Lemon slice very nice. Coffee hit the spot - will be back next time we're up this way.

Great brunch there last weekend. So tasty. And the awesome outdoors area kept the toddler occupied which was a bonus!
T.
Food was good but had to wait an hour and a half for our lunch. Staff did give our party free drinks in compensation for our wait. Is dog friendly for outside seating.
M.
One of the best cafes I ate at in New Zealand wide. Fantastic location, food and coffee. The only downside to it is the waiting, which I don't mind much as the satisfaction afterwards is worth it.
