L.Google Photos reminded me about our visit to the Adventure Cycles 12 years ago! It was a great suport before and after our journey throughout NZ! Mr. Bruce used to employe people from abroad so they can get used to english language and also learn about bikes. Awesome atitude. Hope you all are very well!!!
E.Lots of great options, great service. Helped us with a problem other bike shops wouldn't help with. Identified problems other stores didn't pick up on. Opt to repair ahead of replacing/buying new. On street parking on neighbouring streets. Helpful and knowledgeable staff. Assisted with buggy wheel also.

They've got a seemingly endless variety of hard to find parts and a solution to any problem. I came in with two very old seat posts that didn't fit and Bruce was happy to trade me (+ a small fee) for one that did.
R.Great service from Andy and Bruce who fixed up a burst tyre there and then to get us back rolling straight away. Don't be put off by the eclectic mix of bikes and parts about the yard, these guys know their stuff and have to be among the best at keeping old loved bikes on the road. Wholly recommended - we'll be back soon with more bikes to fix.
E.We showed up just prior to closing and Bruce and his team were extremely helpful even with so many others at the shop at the time. They have a wide selection of parts and a plethora of knowledge. If you’re a cyclist and in this neck of the woods, I highly recommend dropping through Adventure Cycles. These guys love what they do and deserve all the support they can get. Thank you guys! A.Some bikes were of good quality, some were old, rusty and would have been better off in the trash.
J.This is a real bike shop! Not a soulless franchise taking your money offshore. The owner "Bruce" has a great ethos. He has kids learning real life skills and he isn't afraid to let them learn. This can mean the service is a little ad hoc (give the kids a chance) and Bruce can be a bit grumpy. Personally I like his honesty. He has a wealth of knowledge and a mass of recycled parts. This place has saved me a lot of money and the planet a lot of carbon.
S.We bought two bikes from Adventure Cycles with the buyback scheme, toured around NZ and sold them back to Bruce. We were very happy with this scheme, as the price is very competitive. The staff, young and old, is very helpful. We also enjoy to see that adventure cycles is a place where young and old can learn. We found the methods of the business very effective, compared to other cyclist shops (I have been to many many many :) ).
It could be that this method does not work for all clients. I would want to say to future clients buying a second-hand bike that it is of importance to realize what you are buying: as when buying a second-hand bike, you are also buying its history. For people who are interested in history this shouldn't be a problem ;). In our case, it helped that we knew a lot of the basics of bike repair. In addition, it helps to give the bikes a spin for a few days, and discuss any potential faults with them. Lastly, we found their repair skills to be of a very high level.
We also want to state that giving this venture a very low rating seems to be a bit unfair, given the ecological and social commitment of the business. I would ask people that read this, and are ready to give a very low rate, ask yourself: Is this type of shop something for you?

N.Went there for some bike repair work. Bruce was professional and knowledgeable. He worked on the issue on the spot right away and fee they charge for repair and installation of bike kickstand is very reasonable too.
Will go back for all future bike repair/service for sure.

K.My husband needed a commuter bike to ride while he waits (months) for his new bike to arrive from the manufacturer overseas. Adventure Cycles was able to fit him with a good bike at a good price to bridge the gap. They have a buy back guarantee, and gave us three free services for the bike. The next day they also helped us get the the (stuck) peddles off his old bike so he can clip onto the new one, no charge.
T.Cannot recommend enough. I've used these guys for several bike transports from Auckland down to Wellington and they have been nothing but outstanding. Easy to deal with, bloody accommodating, and great communication throughout. They know their bikes too! Thanks guys!
M.Bought a customised second hand red Giant bike recently at this shop. Great experience. The staff at this bike shop are very friendly and helpful and know a lot about bikes. Asked them to make a few changes to the bike and they were accommodating. Also offer free servicing and warranty. Will definitely go back again. If you are looking for a good bike shop for reasonably priced second hand bikes and decent service I would look no further.

C.Absolutely amazing service! I got a puncture fixed as well as a maintenance class and was blown away by how genuine the people were. The inner tube was the fraction of the price it would cost me anywhere else and was installed quickly. On the maintenance coarse I got one on one for 2 hours going over the ins and outs of my bike, while giving it a full service. That cost me a grand total of $12. All in all I couldn't recommencement this shop enough.
M.I can't comment on the quality of their bikes so I've given a generous 3. Contacted them 6 weeks before my trip and was offered an excellent rental deal for a 1 month trip.
Tried to contact again 2 weeks before I arrived ( from UK) and was met with silence.
Tried several times more using ALL their various events mail addresses. Continued to try whilst ensuring route.
Bruce eventually responded on Christmas Eve. By which time I had made alternative , non cycling, arrangements.
Feel very disappointed and let down.
I'm sure you are doing your best Bruce but if you decide you want to do business "online" the you have to be reliable.
I won't be risking this firm on any future trips.

B.I love that this place is basically a recycling centre, and it's great the way they employ keen young teenagers to learn the trade of fixing and maintaining bikes. Our repair ended up being more extensive than we thought but the extra cost and parts were politely communicated by text. The future needs more places like this.

The staff also provides you with safety and legal advice if you're a foreigner who is not familiar with NZ bicycling (like mandatory helmets or whatever). The buyback option's definitely awesome if you're planning to stay in NZ only for a few months!
M.Bruce was really helpful sourcing the part I needed. It was at a very reasonable price, and arrived faster than expected. Was ready and waiting for me when I arrived. As is clear from other reviews, the shop isn't to everyone's taste. I loved it; a veritable treasure trove of parts. I'll definitely be shopping here again!
A.My only disappointment was not visiting this store earlier. I've been building up a bike on a budget for the past few months and having to search high and low for cheap parts and tools. Visiting Adventure Cycles, I felt like a kid in a candy store. They had every spare part I could imagine in stock and their second hand prices are by far the cheapest I've found anywhere in Auckland. I praise their customer service as they sold me one of their own tools (for a steal) when the alternative they had in stock didn't work for my exact set up. If it's parts or tools you need, I highly recommend this store. Don't let the appearance scare you away, because they've got the cheapest and widest selection of used parts I've seen. I will definitely be returning if I need anything else.
L.Bruce and his team are nice and helpful. We rented two bikes for touring for a month and they did their job perfectly. Also Bruce was very helpful when i had to come back to Auckland to exchange some of the stuff from my bags that i left with him, as he picked me up on the edge of the city, let me exchange my stuff and then drove me to the city center which is where I had to go.
The only point of criticism would be, that we had to wait for quite a while till our bikes were ready. So if you want to hire a bike here, you should plan in to wait for a couple of hours.
Apart from that perfect and cheap bike shop for rentals. Would rent again.
V.Great experience hiring bikes from these guys - and much cheaper than anywhere else I enquired in Auckland! Had a few probs with one of the bikes when we took it out so couldnt use it for the time we needed unfortunately but they were really apologetic when we took it back and offered a free rental another time - cant say fairer than that! The place looks crazy as there is bikes everywhere so not everyones cup of tea but dont judge a book by its cover - really great solid service, thank you!
R.A unique place. Like their philosophy - recycle & reuse. Can take a while to get things done as they are usually training a number of youngsters, but worth it. Very reasonable prices especially for kids bikes. They upgrade the bike to a bigger size one cheaply.
T.Sunday of a long weekend and we needed a tyre inner tube for the 8yo's bike. Sorted within minutes, tube, tools, pump supplied to allow us to replace it easily and also cheap and affordable. 8yo was stoked!

L.After reading all the reviews I am really excited to check out this bike shop. It sounds like my kind of place. Not about glitz and glam but straight goods and knowhow for those willing to spend the time to absorb it. I feel the need to give this place 5 stars based on reviews to balance out the person who gave a 1 star review also simply based on reviews. Life is all about balance and it seems this shop has a healthy balance of ethics, knowledge and drive. They stand by their work and as a result, I will stand by them, if only with my dollars in hand.
B.We were coming to New Zealand for a month and wanted to do some of the bike trails. It was too much effort to bring our own bikes but on contacting Adventure cycles found that if we bought bikes from them, that they'd buy them back from us at half price. The whole procedure went really smoothly! We arrived in Auckland went & picked out 2 bikes, bought them, spent a month cycling our little legs off and then took them back! We have been thrilled with the experience & would highly recommend it! It was a fraction of the cost of hiring the bikes and we had the freedom of using our bikes if & when we wanted! (Worked well for us as we did bring a small portable car bike rack with us and had a hire car) Thanks Bruce and the team who helped us out from the first concept! It was so easy and we've had sooo much fun!

Awesome team running the place I went in just to get cycling shoes and the boys checked my bike out and gave it a service as it was my 1st road bike. J.Had bought new wheels, new chain set after suffering a crash - from BikeBarn. Worst fix job - chain was grinding, gears stuffed and nothing working properly - was fed up went to Adventure Cycles - they saved my sanity and fixed EVERYTHING. The chain is so perfect doesn't matter what gear I am in - the bike is perfect - never ever going back to Bike Barn again
L.very good convenient bike shop with very helpful young workers. i believe one of them was named Louis pagonis he is very cool and good at fixing bike. also the man himself jeffery liu works here he is very kind as he gave me free milk when i went there. very great service from mr jeffery liu and the man himself louis pagonis, would highly recomend

They have an extensive collection of parts new and used, it may look a bit chaotic but there is a higher chance they can put something together that will work if you are stuck on the road

P.Bruce O'Halloran went abou quietly and methodically installing a carry rack on the trunk of my rental Mazda Demio. All great, then he supplied a reconditioned hybrid which I have taken all round North island. Supplied a bag of tools and spare tube but to date no need for any.

s.great shop for basic work, recycling parts, sourcing obsolete parts, the support charity bikes for refugees, so i donate may spares to them; not the place for advanced /latest model/ expensive repairs though as they are always training up new mechanics; i rate 4/5 for all round good guy / basic /recycle type repair work
