Woo!!!! If you walk past the light house about 10-15 you can see the seals 🥰 this was an amazing experience. My first encounter with seals and I was in love even though they were missing at us 😝 Please mummy can I have one 🤩😝

Many seals and a few penguins to be seen on our visit. Nice walk and great views.

We like lighthouses, just because of the significance of them. Nowadays digital beacons taking over lighthouses job, however people with small sea crafts are still relying on visual warnings. This example is easily accessible and very well maintained. When you come, please respect the locals (speed limit, parking spot etc...)

What a lovely spot! Tucked away down a long road, often unsealed, you get eventually to a car park with a little walk out to a rocky cliff area dotted with seals, penguins and bird, some incredibly close up too! There were also people swimming and diving, and a cute little lighthouse too. Worth the drive out to!

Enjoy 2nd location with different penguens heading south from Oamaru. Lovely place with nice scenery as you drive from Oamaru - take longer route. Have fun!!!

I was not that lucky enough to get to see penguin except 1 ... Sea lions are always there..... Go at the far end and you will see all resing.... Enjoy

A nice wee detour on our way down south. Pity you couldn't go in to see the lighthouse, but still got some nice pictures. Although we weren't sure about the road, we got both motorhomes parked no worries.

It is a beautiful place. A little walk towards to the cliff point is very enjoyable. It was very windy that day but blue sea and millions of birds make us very happy.

The best thing about new Zealand is that there are places like this just waiting to be discovered 😉🦭🦭🦭🐧🐧🐧

Amazing view of the sea. Soooo many Sea Lions, seagulls.. I could sit here all day and just watch them taking a bath in sun or in the sea... It's just so beautiful scenery and the lil walk is definitely worth the effort. Just be careful when it was raining, it can get slippery very easily!

FREE - short drive from Moeraki Village, if you get your timing right and after the short downhill walk, you can see seals, their pups and penguins. We were lucky enough to see all at around 4.45pm. The road is partly gravel but easy for all vehicles, depending on the time watch for stock being moved on the road

We could see the yellow eyes penguins right in front of my eyes. Also there were lots of fur seals 10m away from me. No entrance fee or no need in tourguide. A bit of walking after parking but worth it. If it's winter you had better bringing your jacket. In daytime you can see more of seals but you can see penguins coming back from work with sunset as well. It was precious. I couldn't see blue penguins. You can here the yellow eyes penguins' sound a lot since they are loud as their name 'Hoiho'

The lighthouse was fenced but we were lucky to bump into the nesting season of sea birds. Also heaps of seals found here.

Amazing Maori heritage site. Great location to see seals at rest and play. Stunning coastal views. If you look carefully, you can usually spot a yellow- eyed penguin or two!

Amazing place to see. Seals and pinguins on a way. Can walk on rocks when tide is out. Just keep in mind- it is not open 24h. Usually it's open from 10 to 5 Toilet on site

May see some penguins if u are lucky enough. Sea lions are everywhere, but please respect them by not attempting to go close to them. It is dangerous to do so, too.

Traverse past the sandy, hilly road and start your adventure past the lighthouse. After a short trek away awaits flocks of gulls and lazy seals basking in the sun (or wind). Truly a sight to behold and well worth the seemingly agonising drive to the modest lighthouse.

Go at sunset to see the yellow beaked penguins! Beautiful drive to get there along a semi-one lane dirt road. Okay for non 4WD.

Managed to see some Yellow Eyes Penguins here and a very friendly seal on top of the cliff! Lovely walk and views around the bay, especially if it's a good day.

Put on the walking shoes and go for a stroll along the path to rugged views of mother nature at her best.

You would see a lot of seal cubs swimming and playing in a lagoon. Whereas the adult seals slept on the rocks. When I went further, I saw many sea lions lay down on the grass.

Great spot for Seal spotting. No penguins while we there during the day but they'll be there at dusk. Historic lighthouse.

One of the place to spot wild penguin in NZ! We were waiting for penguin, but instead we were greet by wild seals. We were amazed because we could stand at very close range yet they didn't manage to run or attack us (scary!). It was unforgettable moment! Would visit NZ again and ofcourse visit this wonderfull place again! Note: for your safety, do not touch or feed any wild life appears here. Have fun, cheers!

Lighthouse itself is inaccessible, but on the walk out to the bluff we met plenty of sea lions basking in the sun! Well worth the detour.

We had an amazing experience! We saw a colony of seals sunbathing and they were adorable..they're not aggresive but make sure not to bother them...a must visit experience!

Great place to visit. A little stroll from the parking area. We arrived at around 7pm and saw the yellow eyed penguins making their way to the sea - amazing. Also saw seals. Think it shuts at 7.30pm so arrive early enough to spend some time there.

Well maintained trail to the lighthouse and the point. The lighthouse doesn't look like it's ever open and is fenced off so if you're going just for the lighthouse, it's a little disappointing. But if you like wildlife, it's a cool spot. Past the lighthouse, on the rocks and in the water below, we saw a ton of sea lions and their little baby pups and got to see a juvenile yellow-eyed penguin molting. Beautiful spot. Saw several people who had brought picnics or were just basking in the sun.

Beautiful place to see seals and penguins. Easy walk. Great fishing!!! Just have to be careful of the incoming tides if you cross over to the island at the end of the walkway. Must see if you're in North Otago, New Zealand.

Perfect spot for wildlife lovers!! We saw a couple yellow eyed penguins, one really close in the bush next to the path. Lots of seals and sea gulls including chicks. This is probably one of the best places we’ve been to so far on South Island for wildlife watching. The place was open from 7:30am -7:30pm when we went in Dec 2017.

Beautiful old lighthouse. Lovely walk down to the seals (didn't see any penguins). Easy hill walk for all ages. Small to medium sized carpark, and there's a long drop toilet 5 meters along the walking track.

Penguins! The first time we went (January about 10am) we saw yellow-eyed penguins (rarest penguins in the world) and were metres away. Was an amazing experience and one i will remember for the rest of my life. The second visit (September afternoon) we didn't see any (i thought i glimpsed one on the far hill in the bushes) but definitely heard them. I've seen a lot of seals and seagulls so without the penguins its a little lacking for me (not that i expect 100% penguin guarantee!). Pop up for a look and stretch your legs as it is a pretty little spot.

Saw lots of seals and quite a few seal pups. Soo cute. Unfortunately the lighthouse has a fence around it.

One of the best sights on the coast since we saw the highest amount of animals (yellow eyed 🐧 and many fur seals). The 🐧 was running around (or standing and sunbathing) the track so they were straight up in your face. Loved it!

Really stunning wildlife and rough ocean shores. Rug up as its exposed and we saw a couple of kids get blown away by the strong gusts but thankfully they were quickly rescued by the penguins.

Wow, what a magic place. Not sure of many places you can see seals, penguins, and of you're lucky a whale from the shore!! A nice easy walk from the road, which is just up from famous Moeraki Beach and the boulders, and you access a fantastic point via an easy walk. Truly magic spot

You can visit a colony of seals here... were impressive. When we were there early in the morning before breakfast, we also so a rare yellow-eyed penguin!

A very easy walk to be with nature. The road is mostly unsealed and narrow in parts. It was a sunny day when we went there and the seals were out basking in the sun. The reserve opens at 7:30am. My husband was amazed that there were penguins up and about, literally walking in the pathway. Of course we didn't disturb them by getting in the way. We were mere spectators, respecting their space and enjoying the sun.

After visiting Curio Bay and Roaring Bay we were keen to see penguins and Katiki Point was the only place we saw them. There's plenty of seals and bunnies as well, highly recommended if you want to see some wildlife.

Long drive on very bumpy gravel road away from the main road to get here, has a toilet facility. We took the right path as others suggested, but didn't get to see any penguin. Perhaps because of the timing. Beautiful shore, seen few seals sun bathing along the way.

Good spot to view seals and penguins. Be sure to stick to the opening hours otherwise you risk getting locked in. The lighthouse itself isn't anything special, but the surroundings make it worthwhile.

What a very special spot. To be one with nature and have the seals so close was truly awesome. The scenery is spectacular too. The highlight of our drive to Dunedin.

This was an amazing place to stop at. We got there at about 6pm and got to see all the seals resting and playing all around the peninsula as well as quite a few yellow eyed penguins.

Take the path to the sea and you will be rewarded by the songs of penguins and the view of lazy seals.

A beautiful old wooden lighthouse accessible by a short walk over uneven ground so probably difficult for wheelchair access. This place is a must for photographers to get an iconic lighthouse photograph. Cheers

My parents had a crib there we used to go to kaka point in the school hoildays loved it and also i used to take my own children there as well lovely place peaceful.
