Wicked Camper is ok. The naked pictures for discount is just great, hahahaha! The van itself was functional but not exceptional. Problem is that all around NZ vans are expensive so it’s hard to get a good quality/price ratio. Wicked Camper was ok for that reason. I hate that they took full amount on my credit card for deposit. Didn’t hold the amount but rather took a payment and reimburse my like 4 weeks after. This is completely stupid because you will need to pay your credit card bill before they reimburse you. Also, get ready to pay for a clean up before giving back the van. NZ is the only place in the world where I had to clean a rental.....

I hired through camper village, which I booked through base hostel. After reading reviews I was really apprehensive so checked the company and saw they were Wicked campers with the spray painted vans, I also read my documents and saw that I’d be charged an excess mileage charge which was not explained when I booked. I called and spoke to a lady with limited English who was not very helpful so I went to the office but they’d closed. When I collected the van the following day I said that I would not accept a spray painted van and the mileage should be unlimited. The really nice lady at Queenstown was really helpful, her surname was Skye, she said she could see the note on the system and I was given a silver plain van and also unlimited mileage. The lady also offered me anything I wanted from the free shelf where other campers had left stuff. She showed me how to use things and honestly could not have provided better customer service. I had the van for 32 days and drove around the south and north island dropping my van in Auckland. When I dropped my van off I’d cleaned it and hoovered, also car washed the outside. The lady there was also really nice, she said the van was perfect and again was polite, helpful and provided good customer service. My experience was really good and wanted to leave a review as there are so many bad ones. They have not taken money from my bank without me knowing or charged extra. I paid a deposit when I booked a percentage of the cost and the rest when I collected, I didn’t have an issue and did not get asked for a bond, I’m 36 and have had my UK license since I was 18. If anything changes I’ll change my review but I wouldn’t worry and would use them again. I had a lovely time touring around and definitely think hiring a camper is the best way to see nz! I hope this helps.

Personally I loved it. It was awesome for a cheap getaway and they allowed my friend to drive a van on a restricted licence without an exorbitant fee. Had no issues with bond or anything, but this was about 2016. We got a van with clever and non-offensive artwork. However the interior certainly had some interesting drawings, but I thought it was cool that we could add our own stuff. Otherwise it was totally clean. I would say that if you don't like it, don't use it. However, it can be hard to avoid when you are on the road. I also strongly dislike the sexist phrases on the back of a few of the vans, but the majority of them are fine. Everything was mechanically sound and everything was exactly as we expected it to be.

As for an upgrade on the day. We paid a little bit more and got the most amazing van with a rooftop tent. Made for such a fun trip!!

I fully recommend them. Great experience in 2018, and they were patient with my delay ik returning the campervan. If you wanna choose the van and the art, it is better to talk with them in advance.

Great Van's that perform and run well. Well set up. Excellent space. Would use again.

Absolutely fine experience. I am an old guy so asked for and got a plain van (most are). Agree some few logos are a bit much and the references to c¥€£ are over the top. Van - a Toyota Previa - was good and ran well on rough roads (150k) as well as expressways. Clean and reliable, roof tent was great, no hassle at return.
Recommended if you are prepared to leave your fake image and executive aspirations behind you. Don’t worry about the neighbours and what they think, get on with life and Go Wicked.

Info: Rental made one day before pick-up for a one month rental in the cheapest van (Not Self Contained - 2 people), paid 1700NZD with the best damage covering and pick up Auckland, Drop off Christchurch. (I don’t know how much you pay when you book in advance)
No major problem. The car worked perfectly for the cheapest price I’ve found and by far.
The car might not be the most recent but everything was alright. Just a few details: one curtain missing (the front one) so I used a yoga matress as a curtain. Good thing I had this matress for free at the pick up place. The USB plug on the radio doesn’t work but I think they say that on the website already. Also no warm welcome from the staff when I picked up and dropped the car.
Other than that I got refunded for the tire I changed (unfortunately drove on a steel spike) in a correct time (like one or two weeks after the dropping of the van... had to send an email to make sure but it was done).
No bad surprise with the price... No surprise at all actually... Which is good and rare in the car rental world.
At the pick up you can take stuff from the « free stuff shelf » which is what clients leave. I got some very useful stuff like a blanket (which saved my life), a red soft plastic thing to keep you warn or your bed (which saved my life 2), etc. Very useful.
So yeah, it’s not luxury but very good for the price.
Oh just one thing: the matress suck... They should totally be changed.
Other than that I would totally book with Wicked Campers if I had the occasion!
