WOW such a beautiful church & to think it's the oldest in NZ!!!!
A must visit when in Bay of Islands, Russell has so much beauty & history I really loved walking here from Ferry & seeing the beautiful windows, alter cushions, flowers & graves was very mind blowing.

I visited this spot during my Northland trip. It was good to see the first church of New Zealand. There was no one inside and the doors were open to everyone. There is a $2 donation box which could be used to donate $2 that goes towards various maintenances. There were many graves dating back to the 1800s. This place talks a lot about history. Would highly recommend! Cheers

First catholic church of NZ. Survived the war of 1845 to be one of the only two structures not burnt to the ground.

Beautiful church with a lot of history. Nice for a short visit. Didn’t feel out of place on a Sunday, despite my Baptist background. Though, I was disappointed that I was the only attendee under 60 years of age.

Have adored my Christ Church ornament for over 30 years. Very special to finally visit. It was amazing to see the magnificent tapestry cushions on each pew, having seen them on television in the past. Such a special church.

The New Zealand's oldest church, you'll see the link with and influences of the maritime life (and death) everywhere. A real harbor church.

Was awesome to see the oldest building in NZ was free entry! Heaps of history here and good way to spend time in the town. The town was a little run down and not really the booming tourism town it once was. The church is great as it is well maintained

(Translated) From Paihia, in a short time, with a boat you get to Russell who was the first settlement of Europeans in New Zealand.
Place of a unique tranquility .... with nice shops, bars, restaurants and beautiful houses in style with the era.
The story is by visiting the oldest church in New Zealand ..... absolutely worth a visit both for its characteristic wooden construction for the tranquility of the place where it stands .... all very nice!

(Translated) It was a great walk but at that moment I found it heavy because of the weather.
It was then unv. 28 Gr. With no cloud on the horizon.the way to the mountain John we walked through the shadow but on the way back there was no shadow somewhere and I thought that was damn hot.
All in all it was worth it.
