Our go to place for a delicious bite and the best coffee including decaf. Their cabinet foods and pastries are delish. Their menu caters for vegans and gluten free as well. Great selection with reasonable price. The staff are really polite and friendly. They have accommodated my request when cabinet food finished which was really nice. Highly Recommend 🤩🤩

The service is outstanding. Very clean and lovely place for breakfast. Food was delicious. My only personal negative will be the coffee ☕. It wasn't strong enough for my liking. Otherwise great 👍. Eggs were cooked spot on.

Best French toast I’ve found in Auckland! The waiting staff is nice and very attentive. Mocha had just the right amount of chocolate, and the outside seating is a perfect place for some fresh air while eating:)

The first time I went there I had the salmon bagel which was really average. You have to assemble your own bagel, very hard to work with. By the time you've finishes assembling the bagel, your bagel is already cold. However my second meal there was much better very tasty. The staffs there are nice. Food didn't take too long to arrive.

Great customer service. Small space so The toilet is located through the kitchen and staff area - a little awkward!

Vulcan Lane is the perfect setting for this amazing cafe. We came here for breakfast on our first day in Auckland and never went anywhere else for breakfast while we were there. That's something I normally avoid doing, but there were too many amazing things on the menu to try. The eggs benedict were good, but the breakfast burger was incredible.

Yummy salmon bagel. Fresh fluffy scrabble eggs. Omg so good.

someone mentioned they serve one of the best eggs benedict and i can attest to it... you know its hard o get it right, but they done it... crispy base bread, egg that is properly drained (some bad shops get bresd soggy) and in my case the pork belly with sweet sauce reminded me of japanese BbQ on ramen. they could have done with less hollandise sauce in fairness but i didnt find it troubling nicely tucked away in a laneway in city. service quick and friendly. they even accept Amex card which is plus for a traveller

Great little cafe, with lots of regulars that come in and grab their coffee before work. The food was good, opted for something healthy, not enough milk or yoghurt was given with the meal to finish the granola, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and gave me more. The coffee tasted weak, wasn’t enough coffee in it in comparison to the size. Apart from the coffee, it was still a good experience.

An amazing cafe with friendly and polite staff. We had a delicious hearty breakfast with great coffee in central Auckland. They also listened to my instructions for my order. Good seating options, very clean and cosy. Highly recommend. We definitely will return 🥰🥰

This cafe is tucked away at the top of Vulcan Lane off Queen Street. I was initially drawn to the name, having a soft spot for Australia's early tough diva. I stayed though for the food. Have visited here before when I had their delicious Granola for breakfast. This time I chose their omelette for a late breakfast and it really hit the spot. Light, fluffy and delicious, it put me in good humour for the rest of the day.

Love when Benedict comes on hash rather than bread (McDonald's style hash rather than homemade albeit), also love the options including pulled pork belly in addition to the regular salmon or bacon. Smoothie tasted more like a supermarket from the bottle than a true yoghurty blended delight but alas! Prices were fair $20ish. Good coffee

Amazing breakfast. Espresso was perfectly made and looked great. Food came out fast and tasted delicious. Service was prompt and friendly. Their card reader was having issues, but that can't be helped. Atmosphere is cozy and there is outdoor bistro style seating. If you don't like your experience here, I'm not sure what it is you are looking for.

A great day and a delicious brekkie. Really enjoyed the pancakes as the Maple syrup and the caramelised banana was out of the world. Would definitely come back for more. Good service but there is a delay in getting the orders. Something to be mindful of due to it being very busy.

Always great. A little bit of Europe in the middle of Auckland city. At one time they had the best blueberry muffins I have ever tasted. And the best coffee in town. Haven't been to Melba for a while, this time I noticed that the coffee was not quite as good but still passable.

An Auckland classic on Vulcan lane - good food, great service. Well priced - savory mince on toast with a slab of bacon in the side. Vibe feels a mechanical for me but that’s ok.

Make a great cuppa and the breakfast choices are nicely done and come nice and quick for a breakfast meeting. It's quite tight seating inside but nice little vibe and friendly staff

TL;DR Stick to their coffee, the food is under seasoned and over priced. It's okay, but not the place for lunch. I was able to taste the Louisiana chicken and the lamb pappardelle, both were prepared well but way underseasoned. The chicken was crispy but had no seasoning and the breading was twice the size of the actual chicken. The noodles in the pappardelle were bland and the whole dish tasted of unseasoned lamb. The saving grace was the hot dipping sauce for the chicken which was perfectly spicy and flavorful. Their coffee was also great (and is what's saving this review). The coffee is smooth and the flavors meld well together, and the price is very reasonable. The coffee I had was the only reason I'd return, but I'd still only get it to go, as the actual dining area is quite cramped. The total cost was over $50 and was not worth it, won't get their food again.

A splendid selection of breakfast dishes, including porridge and eggs Benedict amongst others. Warm and welcoming with the name of Australia's most famous opera singer, Café Melba is just a short walk from Queen Street.

Very busy, in a popular area of downtown. Coffee had the option to be served in a 'bowl', very very large bowl. I had the Mexican Beal meal which was very flavourful and served hot and fresh. There is seating inside and out - little cramped. Nice little alleyway cafe

Eggs benedict was fantastic. Only complaint is that there was very little hollandaise sauce. Tad expensive but the food is worth it. I had a mocha latte to-go and it definitely was worth the price. This cafe doesn't have the most expansive menu but the items definitely peaked my interest. Keen to try the Creamy Mushrooms on the lunch menu. Will be coming here again.

Great coffee - at least 20 times better then the cruise ship! Fantastic bacon & scrambled eggs and the internet is also pretty good for downloading Netflix episodes requiring updating for the next leg. My wife also loved the breakfast burger but the sriracha sauce put me off (I don’t like spicy food)...it wasn’t spicy though so all g. The staff were also lovely and friendly. Worth a visit and worth the 1km walk from the ship. Thanks!

I didn't buy anything here but the atmosphere was like magic with everyone smiling and laughing. The coffee smelt deeeevine and the food for sale looked delish. Hope I'm there again soon. Daisy 🦋😙

Best coffee n Eggs Benny in town. My go to breakfast cafe since my uni days, had many cafes around Auckland but nothing has compared to Melba on Vulcan as they deliver on all points; time to cook, service, delicious food, great coffee + reasonable price. Best in NZ for me!

I'm a tad biased as I visit here regularly. I have never been disappointed and continue to be impressed and pleased with both the food and service. If you want some criticism - mugs with handles would be nice.

Tasty coffee and the BAT (Bacon, avodaco, tomato bagel) was really yum but a little difficult to eat. Service is good and staff are friendly and prompt. I came here solo and sat outside. It was a bit chilly as there was no sun at 1030 but it was enjoyable all the same.

Something about Melba on Vulcan lane. Firstly their staff are awesome and you feel like a real VIP there. Best inner city coffee place for individuals. Not much space for big groups. But for me and study/planning. Brilliant

Decent if uninspiring cafe in city. Service is mixed. For example, having ordered cappuccino with cinnamon earlier in week which came with chocolate - made special point at weekend of explaining prior error and insisting on cinnamon. It came with chocolate again. Simple stuff - they need to focus on basics to improve.

Came here for late lunch - ordered $14 cold smoked salmon bagel with cream cheese and capers. It’s a DIY style (build it yourself); not enough salmon and too much cream cheese for an averagely white toasted bagel but the service was friendly and efficient.

$18 for eggs benedict that comes with bacon but misses any potato hash, spinach or other green is even for auckland quite pricy. Also the sauce hollondaise was ice cold when poured over the eggs. Mocha was ok.
