Reviews of Postal Service
L.
This has become my goto place for breakfast/lunch with the new menu! There are many options to choose from for Vegan/GF. The team is super accommodating, the food is healthy, the presentation is artistic, the service is stellar, and the atmosphere is chill. And, they have New Leaf Kombucha on tap:)
P.
Nice place nice coffee friendly staff ordered avocado Smash and spaghetti
Went again the other day and had a nice chat with the super friendly boss and surprisingly gave us a free muffin apologising for the wait for food ( which we actually don’t mind or think it’s long at all) lovely place !
A.
Amazing coffee and atmosphere would definitely come and try out their awesome new menu !
G.
Coffee is nice, very good service too, will go there again.
K.
Great service and excellent food!
Thank you to the team for catering to my coeliac needs, it has been tough to find restaurants that actually understand. So thank you :)
Even though they made a boo boo with my partners order, they fixed it without a second thought. We'll be back :)
D.
Yum yum yum. It’s all vegetarian/ vegan dishes ! Portions and price is very decent. The buckwheat pancakes weren’t overly sweet and the coconut whipped cream was delicious ! A good brunch spot :)
The front till guy wasn’t the friendliest (maybe manager?) but all the other staffs were super friendly and nice.
J.
Great cafe, great service, great food.
The toilet is a bit dusty and let's the cafe down a bit.
C.
Kokako coffee and kumbracha but can be better with better milk. vegan dishes with natural and good taste and good appearance.
My spaghetti dish quite surprising me.
Spaghetti has optimum softness and hardness. Paste in it having Rich tomato taste without the common watery although its all made of vegan ingredients including cherry tomatoes, courgette, brown button mushrooms and something alike meat minces.
M.
Delighted to find this cafe on the corner. Has a clean setup that feels great and conducive for productivity, lovely staff members, and good coffee. Enjoyed the cute plants on the table and chill music. There's free wifi which is a must for if you want a workspace. Spotted some bag hooks and a few power points around too which is even better! Would easily come back to work/read. Haven't seen the menu but would be interested in that too perhaps in the future :)
J.
Great coffee, quickest ever service! In and out in 2mins and shared a nice laugh with the friendly staff whilst there. Didn't try food but will next time!
E.
Nice place, good coffee, great service, and vegan options. Having a phone set up by the entrance for scanning vaccine passes is a nice convenience.
B.
the cafe is located on the corner of Williamson and Great North Road. Keep an eye out for the blue wattle of the kokako or the blue facade of the building.
it was fairly busy but we were able to get one of the benches in the back. It wasn't until we were at the cafe perusing through the menu that we noticed that the menu was meat-free. The menu items all looked very interesting though.i tried the black garlic mushrooms. Mushrooms were nicely cooked and loaded on top of a couple of slices of toast. It was bigger than it looked.
We also tried the nitro pulled coffee. It was interesting. It was way too bitter for me as I don't really drink coffee. It was really smooth, almost like a beer.
It is quite an interesting cafe with lots of food and drink options. they also have a small shop that sells coffee related items like keep mugs.
C.
Came here with my granddaughter, the cafe was full of people and the food was amazing. The only downsize was they forgot one of our orders. Otherwise very very good cafe and customer service.
C.
I absolutely loved the setting and pleasantly surprised again at how satisfying a vege dish can be! I ordered the avo on toast and was just amazed by the balance but delicacy of the flavors. The coffee was superb as well! Would def come back!
R.
Really enjoy the coffee in the shop. Nice stuff and delicious food. We will come back again 😀
C.
Visited the Postal Service, Grey Lynn, first having Huevos Rancheros, and the Green omelette the next day. Both were delicious, fresh ingredients, and the smoked cheese toastie also delicious. Great coffee, Kokaka. Invested in some of the counter food, the pasta with eggplant and a roll to fuel us on the return south...
D.
These guys (and girls) man; love their service. Great place for some quality service, food and quality. The pancakes I had for brunch somehow tasted healthy, despite being covered in berries and maple syrup.
I always come here to smash out some work on the MacBook while sinking a few cold-brews!
K.
I had a great grilled cheese sandwich and scrambled Eggs and a coffee and it was all excellent. And the eggs came out so pretty!
D.
Very nice vegetarian local cafe. Really enjoyed the rustic/casual feel inside, which was transformed from the old postal office. Staff was really friendly, even had a chat about the postal office and decor. Food was great.
O.
Great coffee, great vibes. The menu changes seasonally and there is always has a great selection breakfast options you wouldn't even notice are vegetarian. I had kumara waffles with the best coconut whipped cream I have ever tried. Yum looking food in the cabinet too.
Y.
Vegan's ultimate paradise!
Y.
This is one of my absolutely favorite places to go for a great breakfast!
They have so many great vegan options in the cabinet and the menu. My Partner isn't vegan and could find things for him. Although the vegan options are so delicious that my partner sometimes eats those options as well.
S.
The best coffee I had in the Auckland. The blue and simple fashion decoration style. Lovely people and good service. Highly recommended.
A.
Coffee is always sublime, service is on point but what has happened to your food?
Had the Agria croquettes with eggs. The portion had only one egg, the grilled broccoli tasted like boiled vegetables, the croquettes were nice but nothing to rave about.
The food used to be something to drive to your venue for, but in the past couple of years has been constantly declining.
I’ll leave a good ranking because I love your establishment and I want to leave a constructive feedback, not a negative one.
J.
A must visit for Vegetarian or someone is keen to try a healthier option. My vegetarian poke bowl is super yummy, full of flavours!
O.
Fantastic food. Great interior. Good service and vegetarian! Food was incredibly flavourful.
H.
Delicious meal, good coffee, cool atmosphere, friendly service!
T.
Great coffee, friendly service and staff. Definitely come back.
D.
Kokako Café is a nifty cafe that has the most amazing food. While the Kokako is vegetarian, the food is absolutely delicious whether you're getting the Huevos Rancheros or a simple sandwich; Kokako is a great example of delicious healthy vegetarian food.
K.
Popular place, good vibes, great food and coffee! This meal was gf and vegan! 😊 Tasty and visually pleasing meal! 😍 Highly recommend. Only thing I could comment otherwise is the large coffee being a tad small to what I'm used to and no sweetners provided, but still a 5⭐👍
S.
Delicious vegan avocado/edamame on toast and boyfriend said the eggs were good too. Really nice interior, feels really light and open despite it being quite busy most of the time.
a.
Gluten free vegan friendly awesome place to visit. Definitely worth a visit for some fantastic organic coffee !!!
K.
Good food and coffee. Super friendly.
S.
Everything about the gourmet vegan breakfast is delicious. There's nothing on the plate that lets it down. It's like a great football team- no weak links.
A.
Beautiful interior, delicious coffee, free wifi, amazing vegetarian food options from both the kitchen and the cabinet! It's the perfect study cafe, or good to catch up for brunch with a friend.
Order the batch brew for $4 and you get a unique batch brew with a little card that tells the stories of its origins. I also reccomend the blueberry muffin which is maybe one of the best blueberry muffins I have had before! Also the smokey cheese toastie was pretty dope!
G.
Great Coffee. Great Carrot cake. Freindly Staff. Quick service. Highly recommended.
M.
Very nice café. Excellent coffee. Small, expensive and very tasty portions.
D.
Really good coffee. The organic banana loaf is a must try. Just remember to have it toasted / heated.
A.
Visited this cafe which is in a terrific location with a great vibe, and it was humming along when I visited - a popular place. Nice touch that I was brought a glass of water while I sat at a table
Asked for a double shot soy flat white in a cup (not takeaway) and it cost $6.50 which in my view was expensive. Got an 8oz coffee to go instead, and was expecting something amazing. My coffee was passable, but unfortunately not amazing
A.
Have had to change this rating.
Whilst the coffee is truly excellent, the food consistently falls flat. We've been twice, tried four different dishes and agree – there's just something missing.
I'd go as far as saying the mushroom dish I had last time, was bitter, bland and honestly inedible. Left about 80% on the plate, staff didn't even bat an eyelid.
We'll be back for coffee, but won't be spending our brunch dollars here anymore.
J.
A little on the pricy side but they have a great selection for people who are vegetarian / gluten intolerant. Still not sure how a "Free range organic egg" is different from a normal free-range egg, but still. Service was absolutely top-notch, even at 7:30AM in the morning the staff were insanely happy and friendly. Food was nice and tasty. Free top-up of my tea. Hand-crafted mug too was a really nice touch. Felt a bit too hipster for my liking but overall it was a great experience!
A.
Friendly and helpful staff members, with good food, and great coffee. One of the first place in Auckland to serve cold brew coffee; used to have the cold brew in bottles, but now serve it in cups as they now use nitrogen infused tap - I personally didn't feel any difference other than make the coffee much harder to keep while travelling/on-the-go. The venue is nicely decorated with simple white and blue tone and often packed with people.
P.
Stopped in for Sunday brunch, mushrooms and the ranch eggs.
Very tasty meals and of course the coffee was excellent.
Ate on the street tables with the dog and passing foot traffic provided some entertainment, why you'd need to be punching street lamps is anyone's guess.
On a week day the traffic would probably drive you indoors where the old post office building stays cool and tables are well laid out.
G.
Truly as excellent as it gets in nz cafes. Top quality food, and marvellous service. All eaters are catered for, allergies carefully considered, Vegans respectfully included, with a grand variety of seasonal foods. I will come here at every opportunity. Thank you for your efforts Kokako :)
K.
Nice spot for brunch on the weekend. Plenty of yummy cabinet and menu food at a pretty reasonable price. They do great coffee too - fancy hipster coffee options, if you're that way inclined. Attractive staff are a bonus. Can I say that?
L.
A friend introduced me to this place a couple of weeks ago. The coffee was great and reasonably priced. My friend tried the banana loaf and a mushroom breakfast and left no trace of either on her plate. There seemed to be lots of vegan and gluten free options as well which is awesome. It has a really cool interior and laidback atmosphere. I'll definitely be going back.
R.
I liked the atmosphere of the cafe and the brand newness of the place. The price of the food was fair for some of the ingredients there were in them. I'm not a huge coffee drinker so can't comment much on it however it tasted fine to me. When it gets busy it might not be the best place to have a face to face type of business meeting or reading a book as it can get noisy easily
R.
Great food, I'm not vegetarian but the whole menu appeared to be. I had the huevos rancheros which were excellent. Great coffee, particularly if you like lighter, fruiter roast profiles. The decor and theme of the place is also really cool, wouldn't hesitate to recommend or visit again.
R.
Food was pretty average. The girl serving us talked too softly and did not know the menu. She was new, but should have had things written down..
L.
One of our favorite places for a light, healthy meal. The greens they use as sides with their meals are fresh and tasty, their breads are excellent. I have tried a poached egg that was perfectly cooked to soak into the piece of sourdough bread with a nice side of greens, I also have had a nice combination plate of smoked eggplant puree, roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, poached egg and bread, and my husband raved about his hash brown stack.
I tried the roasted dandelion tea, though they had several other options (it was good), and I plan on trying one of their smoothies soon.
The atmosphere is ... maybe french cafe? with white tiles, and an open kitchen. There is table service and the staff is wonderful.
S.
Awesome food! Awesome coffee! Awesome staff! Love this place :)
D.
One of the best cafes in Auckland. Was ranked 2nd best in metro magazine top 50 and really lives up to this. Some of the best vegetarian food I've ever had on their wonderful menu. A really cool place to sit and read a book or do some work. Great coffee with expert baristas and an awesome bunch of quirky gifts and items for the home.
G.
Great vegetarian food, nice place to go as a novelty type thing if you're a meat eater. However I'm not into this new hipster style of making you sit on old school hall seats from the 80's. Maybe they do it to make you uncomfortable and move you on quicker ;) . Really friendly service though and great coffee.
A.
Stopped in for brunch. Had a delicious baked egg and a couple of awesome coffees. However what really stood out is the friendliness and attentiveness of all the staff on the floor. They really were awesome. Highly recommended.
K.
The coffee here is so nice I could not find a better cafe to attend. Coffee is also reasonably priced. Their sandwiches and various deserts are on the high end as there are so many of them! I couldn't even make up my mind on what to choose from!
c.
Today I tried a new dish at Kokako cafe called the huevos rancheros, it really was the tastiest thing I think I've had recently out at cafes in Auckland. Definitely coming back for that. I can highly recommend it. Great coffee and service as always, thanks guys
A.
First timer- just stopped in for breakfast. Their huevos rancheros is the most delicious breakfast I’ve ever had. Everything about it was a work of art, combining flavors and textures you wouldn’t normally think to put together but worked perfectly (Kiwi salsa verde?! Yum!). Definitely going to be thinking about this place for a long time. Excellent service too, everyone friendly. Thanks!!!
A.
The food is better than a diner, but I didn't care for the bitterness taste in our potato hash. Our friend ordered the matcha waffles. He likes everything but the whipped cream which he said was bland and bitter.
T.
Had a delicious vegan breakfast that I added an egg to 😂 But the point is how lovely their coconut hollandaise sauce was. Great coffee. Cool vibe and atmosphere. I even got to sit a few feet from PM Ardern.
A.
Kokako coffee is usually superb but the last couple of times we’ve stopped here it just hasn’t been as good as normal.
It gets 4* because it might just have been a couple of outliers.
R.
Great food, even greater coffee. Lock it in for a great caffeine fix.
C.
Great cafe! Good coffee. The best huevos rancheros I’ve had on this side of the Pacific. Nice airy decor in a heritage building.
K.
Great tasting coffee. It’s all about the Mahana blend. The avo on toast is pretty good too
P.
I enjoy lunch at Kokako often, and have to say they provide excellent service, great food, and a fantasic atmosphere. As a nutritionist and naturopath I have found their food to be highly nutritious and tasty, and their presentation is always first class. I especially like their wraps, which are very satisfying, inexpensive, and just what is needed in the middle of the day. Their coffees also go down very well.
All in all one of the best places I have eaten in Auckland and my favorite spot for lunch!
T.
Stopped in for brunch on Labor Day. Had a tasty eggplant bake with a slice of excellent toast. Service was friendly, but it took a while for food to come out. But they were crowded.
K.
Awesome cafe in Grey Lynn. Food is incredible, and coffee is (predictably) best in Auckland I think. The nitro pour cold brew is amazing and I value getting actual filter coffee too. Full vege menu.
D.
Fabulous food and service. Always a treat to visit. Our favourite place. 10/10.
R.
Delicious food, outstanding coffee, friendly service
J.
Best brunch in Auckland. Stunning presentation, blew my taste buds away & great coffee too. Well worth a visit I will add this to my favourites.
K.
Here's the rub...roll in and order the waffles for breakfast. Simply superb. Kokako do fantastic juices and great healthy brunches too. Has become very popular with locals so can be very difficult to get a seat. Worth the wait.
L.
The general vibe is very nice and light. They are a vegetarian Cafe (ie no bacon etc) but very vegan friendly. The service was very attentive but it was a little bit weird to have 2 or 3 different staff looking after us, seems like things would get missed between staff?
We started off with coffees, I had a soy mocha which is my go to. I was very happy to see that the sugar on the table appeared to be coconut sugar. Mum had a long black which didn’t come with any milk or a little jug of hot water, but they were very happy to bring over water when asked.
The coffees were excellent as you would expect considering they are coffee roasters. My soy mocha was the perfect amount of coffee to chocolate ratio, there was a hint of something else but I can’t put my finger on it. It could be the flavour of the milk perhaps? The soy they use is much nicer than all soys that I’ve come across, the barista showed me that they use the Macro brand milk which you can only get from Countdown surprisingly. A quick look at the countdown website shows that you can get soy, almond or rice milks from this brand which is an organic brand from Australia. At roughly $3 for this soy it’s a real winner!
Mum ordered the Mexican beans which is free range scrambled eggs, salsa, avo, tomato, nuts & seeds served with a poppadom. This can be changed to be GF, DF, or vegan but mum had it standard. She said that everything was excellent and complimented each other well.
I ordered the special of the day which was a superfoods muesli with a berry coulis on the side. The muesli was a lovely combination of oats, seeds, almonds, Maca powder and coconut shavings. The berry coulis was lovely and tart, it had Goji berries in it which is a nice touch. Was all topped off with some mint leaves and a jug of what appeared to be almond milk. The combination of everything worked amazingly well together to be sweet, tart and nutty all in one. I will be repeating the experience.

I have been a regular customer of Kokako now for just over a year and this coffee shop is arguably the best 'package' of coffee, tea, food and service I've experienced of the many I've visited across a number of countries. The atmosphere is always warm & welcoming and after being served an expertly prepared coffee you might find yourself engaged in conversation with either the barista or management and finding they're expert in their knowledge of this wonderful beverage too.
After a short while I found that the Kokako coffee shop in Grey Lynn is their sole establishment for the brand and they are, first and foremost, a coffee roasting company with a passion for producing the highest standard of organic roasted beans, sourced 'Fair Trade' with their roastery conveniently located literally around the corner.
As a lover of coffee and someone who craves variety I love the fact that I have a choice of about six different types of beans from various well known coffee regions in the world and I can have it prepared in as many ways, depending on what I'm craving on the day.
Oh, and to see the same passion and quality reflected in the food menu & its preparation you get a clear sense that there is no compromise, in any area, when it comes to ensuring that only the best is a product of Kokako.
To Jo, Tyler, Shannon, Fu, Plabeta, and the other special people who have made every encounter there such a pleasure, I say thank you.
This is truly quite a special place.

A.
Love the coffee, love the service and the place is awesome. Thanks
D.
Nice light and airy atmosphere. Friendly service and great coffee. Little tricky to find a park as it's on a busy main road.
A.
This is a really nice friendly cafe. Small but perfectly formed menu. I really like the huevos rancheros. It's often busy because it's very popular..
S.
You can expect a comfortable environment with pleasant service. They have a great choice of food and healthy meals. Fresh salads and bake goods, as well as plentiful cooked breakfast and lunch plates.
R.
Good vegan cafe, coffee was fast and great quality.
p.
Absolutely delicious food. It was very busy so our order took rather longer than we would have liked but that couldn't be helped. And the place being busy can only be a testament to how good it is.
E.
Some of the best coffee in Auckland and an awesome, creative menu of seriously gourmet brunch and lunch options. Entirely vegetarian menu and a few vegan options too.
S.
I am a bit picky when it comes to hospitality and If I were being really honest, I'f say i'm actually just a fussy bugger.
It is so refreshing when meet people who love catering to your little idiosyncrasy’s
My order
Double trim flat white, ¾ full , half a sugar. Usual response “WHAT?!! “
When I order my standard dairy free scrambled eggs with a side of avo kindly remove the bread to add salad the “WHAT?!! “ usually turns into I'm gonna have to ask…
I have been coming to Kokako for well over a year, it is one of my favorite cafes to frequent. The people the service and the quality of the food, coffee and tea is exceptional
I am a fussy bugger and have extremely high standard … The only time in 1 year it ever slipped was when they forgot my coffee. Response apology and free coffee. Spot on
I now host all my local business meeting at Kokako and just wanted to say thank you for being great. !

Here's the rub...roll in and order the waffles for breakfast. Simply superb. Kokako do fantastic juices and great healthy brunches too. Has become very popular with locals so can be very difficult to get a seat. Worth the wait.
D.
Went there recently: Delicious single origin coffee, tasty food and friendly service. Best cafe experience for a long time. What else can you say?
A.
The food is better than a diner, but I didn't care for the bitterness taste in our potato hash. Our friend ordered the matcha waffles. He likes everything but the whipped cream which he said was bland and bitter.
O.
Great food, great service, I love coming here and have for a long time. I'm a vegetarian and find the meals here really inspired, I love the variety and flavours

J.
Really great coffee, loving the mugs too
P.
A very pleasant experience. Staff are attentive but not overbearing.
And the Lemon and Chia cake was better than any poppyseed version.
S.
Best Coffee in Auckland, worth the drive back from where we were staying.(nothing else can matches it!) Customer service outstanding.
J.
If you are in to Vegan and/or Nitro this is probably the best spot in Auckland. Food, coffee(there own), service all fantastic!
