Reviews of Scarecrow
A.
Good coffee, great treats! Beautiful ambience, very cozy and intimate. Feels like a little farmers market combined with a small coffee shop in a communal small town library. Love the cosmic blue spirulina latte!
D.
My partner, my friend, and I were here today. The staff are super sweet and friendly. The atmosphere was very chill, warm, and cosy. The dessert, tea, and hot chocolate were so yummy.
We will definitely come back again!!! Thank you 🤗
L.
I really enjoy coming to this café. This is my go to when I have friends visiting. They have some of the loveliest staff in town. They make beautiful recommendations, the coffee is delicious and I always leave with a smile. Love the atmosphere and the unique selection of products!
K.
We arrived at 4:30pm on a weekend so they were close to shutting up. I needed caffeine stat, but they had stopped the espresso machine. They helped me out with some black tea and then found some filter coffee too. Both the tea and the coffee were really good and the service was super despite the challenge of our timing. They did an excellent hot chocolate too.
e.
Loved the big breakfast! Salmon bagel was ok. Wouldn't buy it again but overall the rest was great, the staff and the store itself was great would go again.
S.
Awesome decor, awesome food and some of the friendliest staff I've met in my life. Highly recommend checking this place out if you're just exploring the CBD or on your way to the library or gallery. Now see why I was recommended to go here for so long, can't wait to come back!
S.
Beautiful cafe!!! Easily the best coffee in CBD. Organic ingredients, lot's of vegetarian/vegan options. Plusss they have a grocer section for organic goodies!! Everything from my pantry is from here. Also amazingly friendly staff and services, makes you feel like home, love it when staff give you big smile, and remembers your coffee order. I literally come here everyday and i wouldn't know what to do if they close one day!!!
M.
Nice restaurant with counter ordering in Downtown Auckland. We had breakfast there and all three dishes served were good. My big breakfast was very good and the eggs were done perfectly. Plenty of sides to choose from the bakery. Had coffee service of many kinds. Very nice and friendly staff.
j.
Cute cafe/shop downtown with a neighborhood vibe. Busy on weekends but lots of seating and you can call to reserve a table if you have a large party. Some outdoor seating as well.
M.
Came here for a quick catch up with a friend. I thought the place was lovely! Very cosy and organic vibe and the food on display looks really good! I ordered a flat white for $4.80 which isn't cheap but it was a good coffee. The music was slightly loud and there were no tables available that were clean of crumbs/cups but that might be because of recent visits. Overall I enjoyed my experience and would come back to visit for more catch ups or to check out the food :)
N.
Lovely cup of coffee! Highly recommend this place. Lots of tasty goodies on offer from the Deli section..
L.
Love this place!!!
It doesn’t matter if it’s 28c sunny or pouring with rain, this cafe is one of this nicest spots to sit in all of Auckland. It also helps when the people that work here are incredibly hospitable.
Amazing food and lots of good treats to buy!
T.
After a huge disappointment from visiting another cafe in Auckland CBD yesterday morning, Scarecrow is fantastic. Staffs are friendly. Coffee is good. The grilled eggplant and ‘bacon’ burger I had is absolutely delicious. The bacon is like param ham. The bread is fabulous, artisan style bread. The cafe is also a shop selling local produces. I like to support local small businesses. Thumb up.
R.
Scarecrow is an inner-city treat. Impressive bagel with crushed smoked salmon with quality capers = a really tasty favour. Clever and simple combo. Salads are imaginative and fresh. Israeli in taste, look and style. Big and tempting selection of cakes for those not afraid of sugar.
Good ambiance with impressive location. The baking is of the first quality.
Outstanding homemade soap from Takaka. This soap is the best in NZ.
Scarecrow is not kosher.
It deserves its reputation as an enjoyable café.
B.
Stopped by for a very early breakfast (7am). The place was quite nice, a mix between a cafe and a market. There were selling a few interesting items like a chili peanut butter. They had bubbles for breakfast but it was only available from 8am.
The place had an interesting menu, and i ended with an iced chocolate and the Scarecrow brunch.
The iced chocolate was ok. I personally though it wasn't sweet enough. The food was quite nice, good flavour and fairly large portions. I quite liked the seasoning on the potatos. We managed to get the bubble half way through and it was nice.
Only issue was the speed of the service, we were quite a large table and it took a while to get all the drinks out. The timing for the food wasn't too bad.
N.
Delicious breakfast options. Loved the mushroom omlette with truffle oil. Omelette was fluffy and light, could really taste the truffle throughout. Great way to start the day. Great place for breakfast, coffee and lunch. Highly recommend.
J.
Delicious homemade hummus with a lovely atmosphere
T.
Scarecrow down from Albert Street was a great find for a light dinner and dessert with friends. The cafe is stunning with walks of organic groceries and other items and a bustling kitchen and counter. We ordered a salad and the steak and were highly impressed by the service, food and ambiance that a take home dessert was a must! Highly recommended!
R.
I stopped here between work commitments and have had an excellent plum frangipani slice with coconut yoghurt and a long black. They use kokako coffee which is a favourite of mine. The experience was great sprouts with some nice jazz playing in the background. There are also a lot of nicnacs for perusing as well. Cost is moderate $$
S.
Probably the best coffee I have had in Auckland. Cool place with really laid back atmosphere. Food looks good but we didn't try! A bunch neat but high end cacao, peanut butters, olives etc to take away. Highly recommend walking away from the SB on queens street and up the hill to this place.
R.
Authentic, warm, cosy; a beautiful destination in Auckland's CBD. The food is delicious & we were blown away by the selection of artisan local NZ products lining the shelves in the grocery. Sustainability is a big focus. Not to mention fresh flowers in abundance. Scarecrow delivers as well so the perfect solution for sending gifts/flowers/food across Auckland. Heart & soul in abundance. Highly recommend!
s.
Meh. The eggs/ omelette was runny & undercooked. The toast was soggy because it was saturated in butter. Too many flavors going on & I thought the food was barely average. Borderline gross.
However the atmosphere is quaint & the store had nice eco friendly merchandise.
I won’t be back to eat. But I may return for a cute bag or soap purchase!
J.
Nice store, they sell a great variety of natural products at good prices. The coffee is average. The hot chocolate was good!
J.
Delicious Reuben with freshly squeezed orange juice elevate lunch to a whole new level! Not to mention mouth-watering vegetarian lasagne and great variety of in-house pies. Scarecrow is a shining bright spot on Auckland culinary map, an absolute must-go!
T.
Stopped in right at opening for a jetlag coffee and came back again for breakfast. Service was friendly. It was reasonably busy and our food still came quickly. The shakshuka and french toast were both very good.
R.
We had an really good breakfast here. Both meals we have ordered have been amazing. The coffee was fine only the price is to high to come here regularly for breakfast.
L.
There’s a dearth of wholesome places to eat out in the city centre. This is an oasis of organic, seasonal and [where possible] locally sourced food. And it’s delicious. On a Saturday afternoon, I had a hankering for a sweet treat with a hot drink, somewhere where I could hang out for an hour and read my book (yes, an actual old school book made of paper). Scarecrow fit the bill.
I had a New York baked cheesecake with berry compote that was decadent without being too rich, nor too sweet. To drink I had a detox latte, which I hadn’t tried before. It’s made with activated charcoal, cacao and coconut milk and was delicious.
There’s cabinet food plus a menu that I need to come back and try, as it all looks great.
m.
Scarecrow is very consistent with flavor and freshness. I have been here a few times and they NEVER disappoint! I highly recommend the shakshuka and avocado cream cheese bagel since they are my favorites but anything on the menu is just satisfyingly delicious!
E.
Definitely A Worthy Leader in the coffee business! The almond latte is amazingly done! Though they are closing soon, they are still very friendly and patient with me. I’ll be back for sure to try other items on the menu!
T.
i went there reading on japanese blog that it was THE place to be... ok yes its nice cafe but its not like i will choose to go to auckland city for this cafe... its close to university and it seem to attract both students and tourist. not much business ppl as its more of a sit in cafe than random take aways. few food items that looked interesting i had apoke strudel.
overall its a nice cafe and ambience is plasant. but i didnt see how the others rated it as must go
S.
A lovely place for brunch. Friendly staff, lovely vibe, and excellent food. The small shop has a nice range of gift items, too
K.
A lovely cafe with very peaceful and funky atmosphere. I just wanted a cheap breakfast and had a lovely toast. Coffee good. Sells some organic pantry items too among other things. So glad I stumbled across it!
A.
Great little place. Lots of history. Pricey menu, but good food.
M.
Lovely cafe and great coffee! I ordered a kombucha through online delivery that was a bit past the expiry date, but it was a small oversight and they were very kind and apologetic about it. Thankful they're open during level 3, would recommend!
A.
Came for a sunny seat outside just off queen street and the healthy lunch, lots of vegetarian, organic and locally sourced options. Took a sunny seat outside and had a baguette with home made hummus, roasted aubergine and peppers- it was moist and juicy, plus a home made passion fruit fermented soda, really unusual and refreshing. Then I stayed for the sublime cheesecake with a cream cheese frosting. Mariana my server was super friendly. Didn't stay for dinner but noticed the wine list is clearly by someone who loves wine! Shop had great looking produce. Am going back this weekend with friends.
S.
Everything served at Scarecrow from coffee to entrée to dessert to foreign products on display are delicious and plentiful in amount. I appreciate the café's firm maintenance of quality over the years.
I was always a big fan of the homely, snug setting that Scarecrow embraces, but its biggest weakness is caused by the very same thing. Staff struggle to juggle orders when the tiny café becomes overcrowded, and customers begin being served wrong items after waiting 15 to 20 minutes, which is simply too long for something that is in the cabinet.
I believe no one wants this beautiful café to expand and lose its identity, but something has to be changed to increase efficiency whilst maintaining quality, especially as more visitors turn into regulars.
m.
Amazing food, coffee and service. And the material they use for the food is all free range or organic. Highly recommended.
H.
Lovely café serving free-range and vegetarian food. Very good value for money and they can accommodate small and large groups. The Victoria Street carpark is probably the most convenient carpark to this cafe which is slightly situated on the corner of Victoria and Kitchener streets. I went there for brunch.
S.
Snug and cozy little cafe with good food and coffee. Some great, unique and healthy food and drinks, although expect to pay a bit more for it. Very friendly and attentive staff
D.
Very friendly staff. They have a cute pop up shop that sells local goods and crafts ! Good seating, have a kitchen for food. Have interesting healthy lattes :)
b.
Absolutely stoked to see the Scarecrow team open again and finding innovative ways to still provide delicious food in level 3. I had the pleasure of trying their heat and eat pre-packaged meals today and I the level and care and love they put into their food shows. I'm always hesitant with takeaway food that it won't be as good as in the cafe/restaurant, but this was not the case. I had the ras el hanout spiced chicken leg and winter vegetable tagine. Reheated amazingly, tasted sensational and was a real treat after 5 weeks indoors! Thank you Scarecrow for all your work <3
M.
Great cafe and food market in central Auckland, came here for breakfast and staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. Salmon omelette was delicious!
M.
A decent brunch/breakfast and lovely coffee. Plenty of staff and very quick and friendly service
L.
Universally pleasing. Great full flavour food and atmosphere with a florist on site. Coffee is reliably good. Good to eat at a cafe that is deliberate in sourcing good ingredients and is environmentally conscious.
E.
If you want to drink a glass of wine or a coffee and eat a good apple strudel in the middle of the day you can go to "Scarecrow". The quality of the food is very good (organic products) and the atmosphere is friendly.
U.
Good coffee & pie, good ambience, and amazing service.
Perfect place to have your brunch or meet up with your friends.
J.
Great Breakfast. French Toast was fabulous. Nice atmosphere with extremely kind staff. I would say it is a must go place for breakfast.
平.
My first eating out in Auckland. Food is good, people are friendly. But expensive.
K.
Amazing little spot for coffee and a meal. They have a stunning array of cabinet food and some lovely options on the menu as well. Cater to vegetarians and vegans. Fantastic wine menu. To top it all off they also have a really good range of groceries in the way of pastas, meats, cheeses, olives etc. Highly recommend this place!
P.
Awesome atmosphere and good food! Pumpkin and chickpea pesto was quite nice
M.
Cute cafe with coffee, food, and trendy food grocery items for sale. We paid 10 for an ice latte and a long black.
S.
A perfect inner city treat for lunch, perfect bagels and lunches, that we all really enjoyed. Staff were friendly, service was fast, and the salads were delicious.
C.
Lovley rustic atmosphere and the coffee is among the BEST I've had in Auckland! Food can be a bit on the pricier end for students but if you buy some of their fresh bread and a small dish for toppings it becomes a very reasonable and delishous meal! ❤️🌻
F.
Nice little concept store restaurant located opposite Albert park, we went for breakfast, regardless how full was the restaurant, the service was relatively quick and the food was on point.
R.
Beautiful food, coffee and service. One of the best cafes in Auckland. A must visit for anyone passing through the city.
g.
Kinda expensive, but hey, it's Auckland 💁 So much choice on the menu with wonderful vibes - super cute place to study or relax!
U.
Always love their cappuccino. I got my coffee here almost everyday. Not only that the coffee is good but also the staff are very friendly, and the ambience is lovely. They also sale a bunch of organic stuff from healthy ingredients and responsible sources.
D.
Great spot for brunch. Lovely staff and good food.
R.
Lovely atmosphere, friendly (and patient!) staff. Ignore comments about cost - they're reasonably priced when you compare to other cafes/restaurants, AND they have decent portions + quality ingredients. Going to make this my new local!
T.
Great little brunch place, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Sells a range of craft beer and also a florist. Lots going on.
S.
The Greek lamb lasagne was delicious and tasty. The tomato salad was so sweet, and lightly dressed. And the peach tarts were the perfect finish. All delivered to our isolation hotel with great kindness. Who could ask for better?
R.
Nice organic and veg friendly cafe / brekkie / grocery on the edge of a park. Slightly expensive but it is in the middle of the city. Will be back again.
P.
Nice spot on an otherwise busy crossing! Great food and great coffee!
S.
I was really excited to be going to Scarecrow. Was my morning to choose and yesterday we showed up and the Tahini dish was out and they had no GF bread (one of our requirements for going is GF DF options). My partner had a Shakshuka and the eggs were really very over cooked. The little grocer portion of the shop is cute but only some of the items are priced. It’s cute and has huge potential. Unfortunately this place really fell short on our expectations and I’m giving it a generous three stars.
G.
Very kind staff, and great coffee n tea!
M.
Lovely ambience, amazing food
M.
This place is wonderful; food was great, service was good, and the coffee was nice. Highly recommended!
H.
Scarecrow is a little organic surprise in the middle of town. Popped in for coffee and was delighted to find fresh organic produce
F.
Good food, friendly staff, great place, very cosy.
Amazing collection in store too.
p.
We've been regular costumers of this wonderful cafe for years. Scarecrow keeps innovating in the flavours and in the way you can enjoy them. This new phase of the business, with the best prepared meals I've ever tried, and as a local fresh produce store is another great idea to support beautiful living in the Victoria Street neighbourhood. We've tried the creativity of the cook in the honey braised fennel and the traditional flavourfull beef casserole. So convenient! The downside of taking the meals home is that we miss the atmosphere of the cafe and the warmth of the staff.
M.
Very nice vibe, unfortunately the chai latte I had was pretty watery. Apparently don't have it with almond milk!
O.
The scarecrow has THE BEST New York cheesecake I have ever eaten not only that it also has some of the best duck fat potatoes and cheese omelette available in New Zealand. The delicious food paired with the incredible location that is next to the Auckland art gallery, Auckland university campus and a quaint little park. The scarecrow is the best cafe option for students studying at Auckland university who enjoy great food and amazing atmosphere.
R.
Delicious, fresh and healthy selections, nice coffee!
T.
With this high cost I was expecting a good service in shop. While I was sitting on a table with my friend, a group of people came in and there was no room for them. The waitress asked whether she can take our empty chairs, of course we said yes. But she didn’t realize the bag my friend put underneath and made it fell. Even she said sorry she didn’t take the bag from the ground but quickly leave to serve the big group. There was a laptop in the bag, thanks there’s no damages. But never again coming in shop with this service.
J.
A great spot for catch-ups, brunch, coffee, morning bread, flowers or gift. Love browsing the shelves here for inspiration for my next meal and grabbing a coffee from the super-friendly team who always go out of their way with personal touches. A hidden gem that makes living in the Auckland CBD just oh-so-much-better!
B.
This was recommended to me by a friend, and it was great. Staff were friendly, and the coffee was definitely great, and we really enjoyed the salads
b.
Great little niche boutique cafe/restaurant. Good selection of breakfast and mains. Licensed premises. Also suppliers of a large variety of sauces pastas etc from countries of origin. Friendly staff
A.
Couldnt wait to write about it... Just been here for the restaurant month.. Not a great start to be honest with the greet and seat thingy.. But i think the food definetly covers up for it...
Started of with the vegetable kofte and the beetroot hummus and i should say the flavour pairing was amazing.. I personally think the kofte could be cooked a wee bit more cz i could taste a bit of a raw taste in it.. The beetroot hummus was really really good..
Moving on to the second course we got the iraqi pilaf with crispy onion roasted butternut and tahini cream.. Only one thing about this i can think.. FAULTLESS, couldnt be any better.
The dessert couldnt honestly get what was going on in there but i loved the vanilla coconut labneh that came with it
Over all had a great time would surely come back to try different stuff
O.
You can find here the coffe culture also the organic products. The main menu is excellet.
H.
Absolutely loved Scarecrow. It's my new central hidden gem. I appreciate all of the care that goes into the place, all the quality artisan products and produce they have in store, and I was really happy with the 2 meals and drink that I shared. Also very nutritious and affordable ❤️
L.
Flat white was okay, probably other places that are better although atmosphere and vibes from the place is pretty nice.
C.
An excellent cafe and grocer. A real find in the heart of the city. The take home cooked meals are incredible, getting fresh eggs and organic old school pint of milk is a real pleasure. Loads of grocery and takeaway items are high quality and a reasonable price.
R.
We visited Scarecrow on a trip to New Zealand and ended up eating there once everyday for the rest of our stay in Auckland!
The cafe style setup for the restaurant and store is very pretty. The store offers interesting food, candles, flowers and potpourri. The staff is very courteous and sweet. Helped us pick their best dishes on every visit.
The highlight ofcourse was the food. The large variety of delicious fresh salads and soups were our favorite. We also got the croissant toast with berry and it was sinful. So good that we ordered it again on the last day of our trip as a parting indulgence!
V.
Excellent cafe specialising in organic produce. Great coffee and the omelette was very good.
R.
Love the slow farming dinner event
T.
Cosy and fave lunch spot. The food is always great, has that lovely homemade feel. There is a fantastic array of groceries to tempt you too.
T.
So lovely, cute place, beautiful food and great service
S.
Had breakfast here two days in a row. Loved the ambience - rustic deli, cafe, fruit and veg shop. Italian scrambled eggs were delicious as was the coffee. Particularly nice staff first day but fairly average following day. If I lived in Auckland I would definitely frequent. If you are after fresh flowers they are beautifully presented and well priced.
S.
It has a cozy and beautiful atmosphere, with lots of organic high quality products to buy.
Staff are very friendly and helpful.
Food was good, but not cheap.
Overall, I’m happy I tried!
H.
Location is nice, especially when the sun is out and you can sit outside. The enterior is absolutely beautiful, very inviting. Place is a bit expensive, especially the coffee when you compare it to other cafés in the area. Everything seems like very good quality though. I really enjoy looking at all the things they sell, lots of local and natural products, everytime I go there. I also really recommend the Iced chocolate with coconut ice cream (I made it vegan with Oatmilk). Can't say too much about their food. Staff is pretty nice:)
F.
I love this shop as you can feel the passion and love the owner and the team put in. My favourite coffee in town and a very special atmosphere. Always there when I’m in Auckland
C.
Really friendly staffs even though it was almost end of day(often hospo guys look tired at that point haha). I had a coconut hot chocolate and it was so yummy. Perfect temperature not like other cafes in NZ steam milk insanely hot.
N.
Delightful lunch experience at this quaint spot in the CBD. Warm, homely atmosphere and delicious food, my pasta was excellent and surprisingly cheap! Highly recommend for a meal and a coffee.
B.
Cozy spot down from Albert Park to hang out over a coffee. Good - if pricey - selection of fresh fruit.
J.
Food is extremely good but staff is a bit unfriendly. They are probably used to regular customers so they don't care too much to New ones. Such a shame!
N.
Service is fine, food is good. Being a grocer of what looks like farmers market fare, point of difference which makes for an eclectic crowd. Organic +. It's an independent, non-chain local that deserves to survive these competitive economic times. AAA
j.
fantastic wee cafe in an amazing central city location . great food and friendly staff
L.
Went there for lunch. Really tasty food. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal. It took a little while for the meals to arrive, but everything else was great. They also sell a lot of pantry products that would make good Christmas presents.
I.
I visited the Scarecrow last week with my mum for Sunday brunch and we had a great time. The food is delicious and so is the coffee. The only bad thing was that the portions were a bit small in my opinion but is a very nice place and we also loved the products they sell, I got myself a delicious organic tea to enjoy at home.
b.
Scarecrow is a really lovely cafe in Central Auckland. They do great food, specialist and inspiring groceries and bread, takeaway meals and gorgeous chocoltes❤. The staff are very friendly and obliging, you can sit inside or out, they sell fresh flowers.... brilliant🌻🌻🌻
A.
This is a fantastic spot for fresh well prepared meals and superb coffee. We had the Broche, a delightfully fluffy cheese omelette and smoked salmon with cream cheese bagel . The staff as well is friendly and helpful with offering suggestions. It is now a regular place for me.
J.
Nice cafe with good breakfast options
L.
So many things are fabulous, salads and good for you sweets. Occasionally things are more ordinary on the tongue. But it's overall a treasure of a place to lunch, great teas, good staff, nice gentle-urban ambiance.
S.
Love the meal, and presentation! I ordered bagel with tomato and avocado but they forgot about avocado! I told a girl who works there and she was so kind and brought it after. My boy friend ordered omelette but it seems like they brought the scrambled egg as you can see the pics. Maybe new kitchen staff? It was all good except those 2mistakes!
M.
Lovely place. I enjoyed looking around their shelves of goodies, some organic 👌 we had a coffee and looked thru their deli cabinet. Yum!
Coffee service was a bit slow but we were not in a rush. We will be back again.
S.
Such a neat concept. Quality food for sale alongside a cafe operation. This creates a sustainable loop where older produce can be incorporated into soups etc ensuring minimum waste. They work with artisan suppliers and source interesting organic goods. The look is rustic, pretty and European. Coffee is organic Kokako.
T.
We had an 8$ eggplant salad, smoothies, 12$ chicken sandwich. All very tasty. They sell Hakanoa ginger beer. Quite interesting.
S.
I popped in for a snack but ended up having a most delicious dinner instead. The lamb melted in my mouth and the cauliflower mash was pureed perfection. I had asked for some bread which was a generous serving and home-made sourdough goodness. One can taste the care that has been taken to procure high quality ingredients and the sheer talent presented by the chef. A classic meal that left a lasting impression and service that was exceptionally memorable.
S.
I brought my Mother here when she was visiting from Canterbury. We both thought it was delightful. There is a variety of giftware and whatnot to browse while you wait, the food is lovely and the staff are friendly and accommodating. I don't often frequent the inner city but I would certainly come again if I were in the area.
J.
Had the most delicious deconstructed Bagel with Salmon and all the other extra's for lunch today. The Salmon is smoked inhouse and is the best I have tasted for a long time. I accidentally knocked my glass of wine over and it was replaced 'Free of Charge' without a question. Definitely my new fave lunch spot when I'm in Auckland City
A.
Organic is great but this place gives a lot more. All dishes cooked to prefection. Menu unique and exciting. Not the normal "bacon and eggs" breakfast. Great atmosphere, great food, great service and amazing pastries. A must for a relaxed breakfast in Auckland.
K.
This place makes covid lockdown bearable. Such a pleasure to visit. The homemade meals are really tasty and good value. It's also great to be able to get unpasteurised milk and a lovely selection of fresh and packaged food. Check it out. Lovely staff too.
R.
If you are looking for a calm, warm, and cosy place , this is the perfect cafe to go to.
Amazing cafe, friendly staff, and good coffee 🤍
C.
Good food. Lots of vegan and organic choices!
F.
Nice cafe, excellent food and atmosphere. However, found the waiting staff a bit cold and they forgot my order so it turned up after 30 minutes. No apology offered. Staff could do better to be honest. Coffee wasn't the best but pretty good.
R.
We went for breakfast. My daughter had the Scarecrow salmon bagel, this was ecactly as expected. I had the farro spaghetti..it really was spot on, so tasty and a good sized portion. Not a traditional breakie..but when away from home..love to try different food. I had the olive leaf tea which was very refreshing. It was nice being able to brouse the store whilst waiting on food..a great selection of healthy earthy products. Will definately recommend
A.
Cute little cafe serving all day breakfast across from Albert park. We ordered the smoked salmon bagel and shakshuka and both were very good (my wife says she likes the shakshuka she makes at home better but that's not a fair comparison). I would certainly stop by here if you're looking for a good but quick breakfast!
S.
A very nice place that is conveniently close to uni, the atmosphere is great too, the food is above average would recommend the grape juice. overall a nice place to study or either catch up with friends.
u.
Great coffee and light meals. The chocolate slice is to die for. In small bites of course. The shop is chock full of an amazing array of very diverse products including a very busy florist.
R.
Really delicious food, good service, and a really cool setting. Right next to Albert Park if you want to grab a coffee and sit in there. 50c off if you bring your own cup
G.
Regionally sourced food store/grocer with refreshingly original + delicious lunch, brunch + dinner fare. I'd suggest trying their Kokako pour over for the best coffee you probably ever tasted! Hope they get some more seating in soon cause the communal table fills up. Their seasonal flower arrangements and bouquets make a lovely setting tho.
Added bonus, it's one of the first places I've found in the city that sells Wild Wheat bread (as well as several gluten free options), Ill definitely be back
L.
They brag about their ‘chefs’. Well there are two kids on the line. Cooks, not chefs. After reading their glowing description of themselves on their website I walked a little over a half an hour to get there and was a little disappointed. My eggs with wilted spinach we’re OK but I have had eggs on my trip to Australia and New Zealand that had rich dark orange yolks and these were pale yellow without a whole lot of flavor. The orange juice came in a glass loaded with ice. The espresso like every other espresso I have had in Australia and New Zealand was bitter and sour. I don’t know why these people rave about their coffee but I guess it is because they have never been to Italy or San Francisco or Seattle. The place is definitely OK but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get there.
L.
Popped in for a quick brunch and wasn't dissapointed. We ordered the big breakfast and the 'addiction' bagel... I can see where it gets its name! The chocolate spread is A.Mazing! Coffee and Juice decent too! Suoer friendly staff and a really homely feel. I'll be back for more bagels 😂
F.
no fuss fast service as always good coffee
L.
Good salmon, duck fat patatoes and omelette!
N.
Lovely setting. Very nice smoothie bowl although a bit small. Very good tomato baked eggs but disappointed with our coffees, too thin.
G.
This restaurant has a lovely atmosphere. The coffee was excellent and their meals were presented beautifully and very tasty. We would thoroughly recommend a visit.
M.
Lovely coffee. Had the pain perdu (french toast) was very well.made lovely little shop. With lots of effort in the decor. Free wifi with a voucher you can ask for.
Healthy with locally grown produce is a win for me. Do your self a favour people, don't get your coffee in a paper cup/plastic cup from the Starbucks nearby. ... Sit and enjoy it in a mug. Watch people walk past. Slow down and do your bit for the environment.
c.
This is an incredible place for a warm well made breakfast. Try the shakshuka, tasted almost as good as home in Tel Aviv (or maybe better). Adding the lamb sausage is definitely worth it.
Coffee was pretty good to, however I believe free refills (or discounted) would have made the experience super cool
G.
SCARECROW is definitely the best spot to have a nice and healthy break in the city centre of Auckland. It's perfect to taste high quality products and food. The team and the managers of the place, Paul and Ali are super friendly. 100% recommanded!
E.
What a lovely place and a lovely owner aswell. We just had a beautiful lunch there and met the boss, who gave us nice advises to visit Auckland.
The little shop, the flowers are nice too, everything is recommendable if you like cosy places!
D.
Great place for salads and coffee, the other cabinet food and the ala carte menu is pretty good too. Really friendly staff and tasty food. If you want takeaway bring a keep cup, they give you a discount and if you bring your own tupperware for salads they will give you a discount too.
T.
Delicious food and friendly cheerful staff. Scarecrow have a delectable array of fine foods and locally sourced fresh foods. I'll happily spend quality time here with my friends. It has a warm atmosphere, being surrounded in recycled timber, boutique flowers (there's an in-house florist), and loads of natural light. A superb location, I'll be back soon!
A.
Friendly staff, cosy place with nice covered outdoor seating or jazzy tunes inside. The coffee is good though cinnamon sprinkle on your cappuccino is extra. Their lemon meringue tart is yummy and refreshing. They offers free WiFi, just asked staffs for password.
M.
Really average. Slow service despite not being busy, average coffee, and very high prices for cabinet food.
The old store decor has lost itself and the place is just a bit 'busy' with an eclectic mix to make a pleasant visual experience.
T.
Long black coffee average taste 7/10 Since it taste like americano coffee. but i liked their organic products especially ecuador dark choclate they have 100% cacao :)
L.
Perfect for cake and coffee on a sunny afternoon. Simultaneously acts as convenient grocery store with very fine products.
P.
Nice outdoor seating on the street. Food can be a bit slow but the ingredients and taste are wonderful. Coffee is high quality and the whole place has been put together with care. Highly recommended.
S.
New French Chef, Fabulous… not sure i should be sharing :)
M.
We had dinner here. I ordered the Crude: delicious. Made with Kahawai, caught 3hrs prior. The kitchen seems very stress-free, staff are friendly, professional and obviously enjoy their work here. I like the fit-out. Very reasonable prices. Next time I am in Auckland I will come back here to try out other things from their menu.
L.
I've Been there long time ago, and it's still a good memories!!
Nice food and drink!!
J.
Shakshuka with perfect eggs! Good location with indoor and outdoor seating. Plenty of eye candy - I mean flowers for sale outside and gifts inside. Service is good.
D.
Pretty amazing service! Been going around Auckland for the best cafes over lockdown, and Scarecrow has one of the best takeaway coffees out there. Delicious!
M.
I am writing with a slight sense of hesitation as I do not wish for Scarecrow to become too crowded. I travel around the world for work and can honestly say that Scarecrow delivered one of my best breakfasts and coffee.
As someone that lives in Sydney, I can assure you that the food and especially the coffee does not disappoint. Their food is locally sourced, from within one hundred fifty kilometres.
Quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation has led to a delightful surprise. Thank you Scarecrow. Until next time...
V.
I love their Shakshuka and organic food. Healthy yet tasty ❤️
A.
I met a friend here today. It’s a really good place to catch up with. I love here. Cosy and comfortable, good atmosphere. Will come often.
G.
Organic and self sustainable. Organic food for sale to the public and used in the restaurant so there's no waste. Friendly staff :) prices are too high tho... $25 for breakfast. Maybe it's called "scarecrow" because they scare you with the bill.
T.
Are here twice in my stay, amazing food. Had the Maori breakfast Shakahuka, a spicy tomato sauce with baked eggs, bread, and lamb sausages. The coffee is perfect. Near the park and university, you should make the short walk over!
K.
Where to start; during, or rather, just before the Covid 19 lockdown's most straitened times, Scarecrow attempted to metamorphose into a grocer's, and thus an essential service. They almost succeeded but sadly had to close until the great gradual unlocking. When they returned, however they did so with not just some of the tastiest take out repasts (the deconstructed salmon bagel was like Lego for feinschmeckers), but a larder of select comestibles, redeeming your home kitchen from the quotidian offerings of the local supermarkets to something that revivified hope and palates both.
Since then they are back in full swing, still selling a curated catalogue of ingredients and accoutrements with an emphasis on things local, whilst also welcoming back a bustle of gratified grazers.
The staff don't simply remember you they take the time to get to know you, the food (NZ Mediterranean) is always a point and the coffee fortifying.
The bread, now proudly displayed in the front window is a marvel in itself and in the sense of essential things elevated to the revelatory (along with the sort of benign entrepreneurial ingenuity implied above) is emblematic of the ethos here.
My wish list; some local icecream to complement the cheese selection (which is pretty special though a gruyere or equivalent would complete the w/hole), and a bit more WiFi for the lonely traveler (aren't we all these days?).
All in all though while corvids might be afraid, for the rest of us this is a place of greater comfort.
L.
A must visit! Had breakfast - gluten-free, dairy-free granola and the Big Breakfast. Was so good !! Boutique grocer and flower-shop inside also.
S.
Nice place to have breakfast, lunch or a simply a coffee. Also, for foreigners like myself if you would like to buy some purposeful souvenirs for friends/family, the cafe has a great selection of local produce (chocolate, all kinds of granola) or fun items for your kitchen (e.g. cute napkins, mugs).
A.
We'd recommend the orange chocolate coffee and the counter pastries to kick your day off. The breakfast menu features all the staples done well. Lunch has a range of interesting selections.
S.
Food is great and love the option to shop. Service was a bit off the the first time I went (just not very friendly) but it could have been an off day?
M.
Lunchtime Service good. Left us a large bottled water. Mediterranean lamb delicious perfectly tender. Apple strudel a great end.
y.
Good atmosphere 🤩can buy organic food
J.
Great produce. Excellent coffee. The staff can be nice, helpful with dietary queries, front of house and kitchen. Beautiful florals available.
썽.
Like it!! Coffee is GOOD~
R.
Coffee was ok, a bit too much milk. Ambience was awesome.
G.
I love everything about this place. The coffee and the pastry are amazing, the interior, the music, the flair of the room remind me of an old European cafe, nestled in the heart of Auckland CBD.
M.
Just had drinks here before they closed, and one member of staff (possibly the owner) was the most wonderful woman who cooed over our baby daughter, then came and gave us lots of travel advice for our holiday in NZ.
A.
Hip and healthy cafe! Kind servers, wholesome food, and lovely vibe. We had two lunches in Auckland and ate both of them here!
D.
Style over substance, sadly. Beautifully decorated, but underwhelming food and bad response to feedback. Decent coffee, but whole, raw black peppercorns in scrambled eggs is poor.
v.
Such a beautiful place and the food is as always amazing. I enjoy the atmosphere and the service. Thank you for a great time.
T.
Eating at scarecrow was amazing, the chef of the kitchen is awesome, and the food so incredible ! Thank you for all skills
Thanks to have a food so true and so respectful products
Thanks to you natural and organic food !
The chef can transform products and Change the way your think !
You are the best !
Gé, Ralph and Romane.
A.
Its my weekend stopover for a lovely coffee, the atmosphere is amusing. I also like there organic products. Haven't tried the food yet.
M.
Subtle but great food, good range from pastries to meals. Nice decor also. I had the shakshuka eggs, one of the best breakfasts i've had for while.
M.
A really nice café. Some gluten free options. Good coffee and service. Normally quite crowded but comfortable.
R.
I thought I would find more keto options there, but they have a good environment here
E.
Amazing service! Perfect croissant! Fair price!
N.
A great place for vegans, vegetarians, gluten free, paleo and omnivores to have breakfast or lunch, wrapped in cool stylish farmers vibe. You can also buy exclusive organic, or spray free products, although the prices are a bit high.
M.
Great coffee and food. Interesting grocery items. Definitely worth a visit.
A.
My mother had a really excellent experience with the owner in arranging flowers for a relative. She seriously went above and beyond to help. Thank you, it means a lot.
I.
Great vegetarian and vegan options. Lovely atmosphere and friendly service. The chickpeas chile verde are delicious and cooked to perfection. Well worth the visit
J.
Great food and atmosphere, kind staff. Abundant VG/GF options. If you’re visiting Auckland Scarecrow is a must!
N.
very cute, might need to lower the price of bagels though. a basic jam bagel shouldnt cost $8+ in a place that doesn't have anything specific to make it special
S.
Exemplary service. I took a friend here for breakfast after a conference and when she commented that something was not quite to her liking, they remade it for her without even being asked. When we insisted to pay for the remake, they generously and politely refused.
K.
Great coffee, nice atmosphere, really large range of produce. Good vegan and GF options too.
S.
Great food, not a large selection which makes it easy to chose. Good service.
E.
Delicious breakfast, but a little pricey however the quality is top notch. Highly recommend the cooked breakfast and iced chocolate drink!
A.
Lovely high ceilings, friendly , professional staff. Come in and be surrounded by delicious-looking food to eat in or take home.
f.
Very busy place and they maintain their nice big breakfast menu's
J.
This is an awesome place - good food and very good flowers. The staff are fantastic and a block out of the main centre. Pay a visit .
J.
Limited menu with fresh ingredients, many of them from the Matakana area. Reasonably priced, very friendly staff, good food, nice atmosphere.
S.
Lovely atmosphere, great service, delicious coffee, and the vegan mango/passion fruit tart was amazing! Thank you!
C.
Always love the food in the place! Never disappointed!! Love their roasted cauliflower
J.
The atmosphere is nice but the caffee is very European. That means it's bitter, not like other "regular" kiwi caffee.
S.
Great food, good vegan choices, staff could be a bit more smiley 😊 WiFi only works for 45 minutes at a time.
N.
Incredible coffee shop and deli. The bread is always fresh. Nice coffee. Average prices.
A.
Found this place when i was looking for a place for brunch. Food was fantastic, coffee lovely and staff wonderfully helpful and friendly. Just wonderful!
A.

H.
Nice selection of sweets, salad and all day menu. Price is reasonable. Good atmosphere.
K.
Wonderful coffee, food and staff!! Such lovely people and the food was so lovely and tasty!
N.
Great food and great coffee. The only downfall is that it takes a while to get served with the counter system they have.
J.
Its more about ingredient quality than great finished food. But definitely worth visiting if you need a change from other, better, spots in the area.
C.
Food and coffee are good. Nice place to sit and enjoy but a bit tight. Good range of market produce
E.
Lovely atmosphere, good value for money, the shop is quite nice too. Coffee is good value too! 😊
G.
Cozy place and very cool. Coffee is nice, but food is a bit overpriced and small portions.
S.
Excellent coffee and their food looks amazing. Never eaten there though.
c.
If you're in need of either breakfast or some healthy food options this is your place. Everything here looks super fresh.

T.
Warm atmosphere, friendly staff, and great food! Yummy potato and leak soup, with delicious bread.
P.
Trendy place, with decent food, but I waited 20 minutes for an expensive cabinet sandwich just to be heated up, and when it arrived it was ice cold along one side.
C.
This place is cozy with lots of organic food to buy! I had a delicious flat white and felt very comfortable.
C.
Good breakfast. Nice people. Great WiFi. Quaint little place with a great shopping range to boot. Get involved.
J.
So many bad cafes in the city centre, this place massively stands out. Great atmosphere, has a European feel
B.
Cool cafe with a wide selection of food.
來.
Absolutely stunning!
A.
Good clean locally sourced food.
Free wifi
Coffee was ok.
Very friendly cafe
C.
Coffee is not worth the price. $5.50? Seriously? There’s better in the CBD for less.
S.
