Reviews of Soul Bar & Bistro
A.
Nice meal at Soul over the weekend. We enjoyed our food, although it took longer than expected to come out. But they were extremely busy, and the wait staff were friendly and kept out waters topped.
The Bluff oysters were fantastic and I enjoyed the scampi Spaghetti!
L.
Really great lunch. The customer service is excellent, the waiters/waitresses are very attentive, friendly and professional. Soul was fully packed, yet the food still arrived extremely fast. The quality of the food was amazing, and everything was prepared very well. Will definitely be back in the future, thank you for a great birthday lunch.
웅.
I visited here today to celebrate my wife's birthday.
The staff here were so kind and nice. The food was very high quality and delicious.
We had great time!
J.
Great food and service, highly recommended.
The blackened prawn appetiser was perfectly cooked, along with the market fish that was pan fried and finished in the oven.
The beef short rib ragu was great and seemed popular with other diners.
T.
Modern & sophisticated place, ambience is really nice, quite easy to get packed too.
Salted pepper calamari tastes so good, must have. Breads quite too hard for our liking. Didn't like much my main of crayfish capellini, too much sauce that makes it soggy far from being tasty too. Cocktail drinks quite refreshing on a very hot sunny day, we specially like the lychee one. 👍
E.
The atmosphere is quite nice. Packed with many people. Food is quite good, service is excellent. Everything is quite enjoyable.
Highly recommended.
Y.
Fancy restaurant at the viaducts harbour.
Many kiwi style variety menu and wines, drinks.Good portion to share with friends.
Also good service and hospitality from any staff.
C.
Love this place. Was here at the weekend for another 4 hour Boozy lunch. The staff were very helpful with the wine pairing aswell, letting us try a few before we got a bottle.
Lovely atmosphere and I will be back again very soon for some more amazing food.
Thank you to Megan the young waitress, she was very friendly.
S.
Great view and decor. Extensive wine list and nice food! A great vibe and must do in Auckland!
T.
Been here several times, food and service is consistently good!!
Whether you come for lunch, dinner or 12am. Love that it's open quite late and even when the main menu has stopped the bar menu still has a bit of everything.
Can't go wrong with the calamari which is always on our order.
Everything is impeccable, every time!
A.
I hadn’t been to Soul Bar for a few years and the food, service and overall ambience didn’t disappoint. I had the calamari which was perfectly cooked and the lamb ragu which was also delicious and a much tastier and less sickening choice than the Macaroni cheese which my friends all ordered. Ezra the waiter was friendly and attentive
N.
Fantastic dinner with group of 6, we enjoyed everything, great choices and the wait staff were very helpful.
L.
Mac and cheese is to die for! Same as everything else we have ordered. Booking is always a great idea as they are often quite busy. Great service and lovely view.
D.
Booked a table which I’m thankful I did as I got the nicer side of the patio. The atmosphere is really nice and would be perfect during the summer time. Excellent service. The food was delicious though the shoestring fries could be thinner and the espresso martini was a huge disappointment. When I’m paying $20 for a classic cocktail- I would expect they would decorate it with coffee beans or something , and the foam was very thick( not silky smooth)
This place is still an iconic place for special occasions and I would still recommend it, just not the espresso martini.
b.
Delicious food and excellent service. Yes it is pricey, but for a special occasion it is second to none.
R.
For the price it was okay, the food was fantastic. Drinks are a bit pricey for what they're worth, especially cocktails. Has that high lifestyle look for an evening meal. Great for a date but a bit pricey for a cocktail session afterwords. One of those places you go for food and leave for desert/drinks.
K.
Also had a dozen oysters which I forgot to take photos of. Food is always great, good customer service, beautiful atmosphere.
Can’t wait to go back!
莊.
Excellent service, nice staff. steak was amazing!! Also oysters, beautiful too!!
H.
Went there for birthday dinner yesterday and one of my guests arrive in time while the rest of us were trying to park and she was told to wait outside until the others got there which I thought was a bit rude. Then we waited a little while until a server came over but they just asked what water we wanted. The food was epic and some staff were lovely, (but one or two staff were pretty condescending.) I had barely finished my meal when they asked us for a credit card but I only had my debit on me so had to pay before we could order anything else- which I understand but they could have gone about it better;
C.
AMAZING! I went in yesterday for dinner and absolutely enjoyed every part of it! I was served by a lovely young fella, I forgot to get his name, but his service was exceptional! Will definitely be returning back soon! Happy to pay for great quality food and great service!
N.
Almost every time I dine at Soul have the little toasts with smoked kahawai, also the mozzarella ones, followed by the Green Goddess salad which I reckon is the best salad in Auckland! Soul Chefs cook fish beautifully so I also recommend any of the seafood dishes. The wine list is varied and interesting and offers lots of great options by the glass. The Front deck is a great place to sit and people watch but the inside tables (upstairs) are also lovely if you want to be away from the crowds a bit. Service is always welcoming and professional, this team really knows their stuff! My favourite restaurant in the Viaduct.
S.
Great place, we had hapuka and the duck with beetroot and both were very good. Interesting wines by the glass without the common price penalty or meagre pours, same as bottle prices. Exceptionally good service, friendly and attentive without being overbearing.
Z.
absolutely LOVED it here! our waitress was sam and she was AMAZING, so fun to chat to and had so much fun debating the best cocktails, the chips were amazing snacks i couldn’t stop eating them! our whole flat loved our time and we can’t wait to go back!
F.
Been here a few times but first time I took photos. Great food , great location and the place has a vibe that stands out in the Auckland viaduct. Cant beat it.
World famous mac & cheese in Auckland.
We ordered the beef, the lamb racks, the whitebait fritters, the baby corns, brocollinni, fries, prawns and another 4-5 dishes that I can’t be arsed writing about. But they were all divine and every single morsel of food was finished.
Awesome drink menu with a huge spread of everything. Great views and 10/10 again. Would come back when I’m in the city sometime in the next few months.
J.
Always great service, great food and drinks selection. Only took a photo of the pate - had too much fun eating the food
A.
The restaurant is great, worthy of all the compliments! The food is delicious, the service is impeccable, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the location is great! We selected carefully and finally chose this restaurant. The dishes here are rich in variety, exquisite in appearance, delicious in color, fragrance and flavor.
m.
Delicious, well prepared food and scrumptious desserts! Beautiful setting however atmosphere tainted by loud music played by the restaurant at night.
N.
Delicious food, fantastic food, friendly staff what more can I say. It is a great place to dine. The menu has a decent number of options for all tastes
D.
Fantastic experience at Soul.
Walking in without a booking on a busy Tuesday where all of Auckland’s Hospo venues are so short-staffed, for a short-notice celebration, John & the Team at Soul made the experience exceptional.
The Manager greeted us warmly & the knowledgeable & personable service, attentive without being intrusive, & a wonderful finishing touch of a dessert with ‘Congratulations’ written for my partner.
Thanks to John & the Team at Soul!
A.
Food are yummy and generously portioned. Even a simple food such as tomato risotto with cheese can be so beautifuly made. Their mac-and-cheese is hearty with huge portion; a definite must have if you want something big and hearty.
A.
Celebrated my brother's graduation for dinner here and had an amazing time! The food was amazing and the atmosphere was fantastic enjoyed every moment of our experience here. Cant forget the wonderful service we received, our waiter and all the other staff were friendly, accommodating and made our night that much special so thankyou!! Would definitely recommend 5 stars all round!!
s.
I’ve been dinning at soul for over a decade. Always know what you’re going to get with great service and yummy food. I love coming here.
I do miss the tuna fillet which used to be on the main menu a few years ago, maybe low supply.
A.
The food was a little smaller than expected (had the eye fillet and snapper) but it was very tasty! Service was EXCEPTIONAL. I felt very well looked after and valued as a customer. Had even recieved a divine complimentary dessert for our anniversary celebration. I will forever remember this experience!
a.
Absolutely fantastic service, the staff were lovely and efficient. Great atmosphere and delicious food, bonus points for some lovely cocktails. Would highly recommend.
S.
Was just ok. Asked for a table for 3 was told we could have a table out front as long as gone in an hour. Waiter was rude about it. Could have handled better.
Had lamb rack which was meant to be medium rare was definitely more rare, closer to blue. Ate it as I can handle rare but prefer cooked more. For the price food was just ok in general.
N.
Service were mixing of great and average level of service , food were pretty good . They used to be better though ( their old menu) . The lamb chops and the steak were great .. love the dessert selections . Overall it was 4.8 out of 5 in my opinion 👌🏻🤪
G.
Delicious food and cocktails! The Mac and cheese is a must. Great service throughout the night. Our server was Lucca and he was extremely friendly! Highly recommend.
V.
Beautiful food, great selection of wine and excellent service! Really enjoyed our dining experience here. Food was very fresh and high quality, lots of fresh produce, very very delicious!
J.
Since moving to Auckland more than 10 years ago I always thought of the restaurants around the viaduct as tourist traps and with the boom of great options in Ponsonby, Britomart and K Road I just never gave Soul much thought.. but I was wrong.
This was my first time at Soul and I now realise why this restaurant is a classic Auckland original go-to for many people.
My steak was cooked so perfectly and melted in my mouth. The tuna tartare was delicious and dessert hit the spot too.
B.
Lovely cuisine. Service was ok with a waiter that talked very fast and with my aging hearing difficult to understand. The sav blanc was nice but came out close to room temperature. Not good enough for the price charged. So we waited about 15 minutes while they chilled the wine!! Loved the cheese board and the American chocolate bar was delicious!!
C.
Great food and service (they were accommodating to my family’s needs and attentive). The food was delicious. The pavlova dessert was tasty and well balanced, a wonderful take on a kiwi classic. The beer battered main was delicious but the pairing of the side salad and sauce was a bit strange both ratio and taste wise. Would return to this restaurant.
S.
Lively spot on a Friday night. The space is split in two, with music from the bar half gradually growing louder as the night goes on. Pasta was satisfying and not heavy, creamy without being cloying. Good selection of local and international wines.
l.
The location and ambiance of this place is fantastic. Great place for a romantic or a formal dinner. You do have to pay for how fantastic it is. Very pricey. It was warm in the outdoor area. The waitress was very attentive however was a but pushy at getting us to place our orders. Cocktails are decent but I've definitely had better. The food was yum, however we had the lamb rack that was a bit too rare for our liking. We were told it will be medium rare but came out rare and under seasoned. Overall would recommend for a special occasion.
R.
I generally rate the venue and the food which I'll do here as well. But in this case I'd also like to jugmentally comment on the "colourful" patrons.
So, the food was good, only let down by the salt and pepper entrée (poorly paired with the sauce) and the over floury salt & pepper crumb. The pasta main was excellent and I'd happily recommend it. Unfortunately, the venue is not my kind of eating space: too noisy, too many ppl, too busy and too many 20 year olds spending mummy's and daddy's money on multiple bottles of Dom next to their insta thots and only fans "models". So unless you really have to impress your spoiled and over entitled peers, there are much better places to eat in Auckland.
G.
The food was great but the service was hurried and the server didn't exactly spend too much attention on us. It almost looked like they had more guests than their staff could handle.
M.
Outstanding service, good food and a comprehensive wine list....a little bit noisy, but all in all a great dining experience.
M.
I have always loved the service here. You guys are warm and welcoming. This time we only came in for dessert and it was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. I will definitely be back. This is for me one of the best places for a formal lunch/dinner in Auckland city.
C.
Everything from the wine to the dessert was delicious. Alongside that, the service was absolutely outstanding. Our waters were always filled and the staff was very kind and polite. Overall one of the best dining experiences I have had in Auckland. Will go back again.
J.
A warm and wonderful greeting on arrival. Located at the Via duct on the waterfront. A lovely selection on offer. A very enjoyable lunch with a professional service.
Here we are again second visit in a couple of days. Again staff are warm and an atmosphere very inviting.
The food is again delicious, its safe to say this place will never disappoint, everyone is so professional in an easy way making your dining experience so pleasant.
C.
A beautiful restaurant in the heart of the viaduct basin. We went there for my mum's birthday for a lovely lunch. The food and service were excellent. This is a place you can just relax and enjoy the day or night with great friends or family. The food is exceptional and plenty of fresh food to choose from. It's a pricey restaurant though well worth it for a special occasion or day out for just a nice wine or beer over looking the harbor.
A.
My annual #RestaurantMonth pilgrimage for the last 4-5 years. This year, Soul Bar offered tuna sashimi, beef cheeks w parsnip puree and a tiramisu for $46. Those beef cheeks... oooh give me more! ☺
Their $18 for 2 wines deal was a steal too.
Consistently stellar service. Always a crowd pleaser.
L.
Delicious! Expensive but I wasn't paying for it, and hell at least you're paying that much for really, really good food. Service was lovely and my family had an excellent evening
E.
Our best meal by far in Auckland was at Soul Bar and Bistro situated right by Viaduct Harbour. The restaurant offers beautiful surroundings with a large terrace area overlooking the Harbour, a modern but cozy restaurant area inside and a lounge for drinks and light bites. The food and service is incredible!! Make sure you get the burrata and calamari!!
L.
This was the best tasting food I have had for years
The fillet steak was cooked to perfection
Choc pudding was yum
Atmosphere was great
T.
Great lunch experience where the bar tenders are open to making whatever you want, even if it’s not on the menu. Food was good, not spectacular. Venue is beautiful, we sat in a covered patio area while it rained outside. I can imagine it being gorgeous when the weather is nice. Service was efficient and courteous.
c.
Food here was divine. Just what my colleague and I needed after a busy day in the office. Highly recommended.
N.
Both of us loved our fish dishes of snapper and in my case John Dory that, given the location & service, you could not fault the place. I'm returning as soon as I can 😁.
R.
The most amazing place to be...the ambience, the service, the drinks and above all,the food....if there were more stars than 5,would definitely rate it more...wow!! You've got to experience this place
A.
Have been here a few times, I've always enjoyed the food and ambience. Minus one star as it's price point is slightly too high for what you get in my opinion.
N.
Beautiful modern place, good service, lovely food. They also provided a gluten free birthday cake which was so moist & yummy! It was very, very busy when we went Sat night, 6:30pm. The place was full which also made it very hot & noisey. Ladies bathrooms desperately need air con, every woman in there was complaining about how it felt like a sauna! Loved that one end of the restaurant later had a dj so you could have a dance if you wanted. Cool place, good vibe, caters to a variety of ages, I'd go again.
D.
Did not stay long as it did not have what we were after, seems like a nice place, for fine dining, will be going back to try, need to make a booking!!!
R.
This place gets super busy so our food took awhile to come out. Great spot for lunch. Featured is the mozzarella toast with calabrian chilli and roasted garlic, smoked trevally toast with lemon parsley mayonnaise and caesar salad with a chilli jam chicken skewer. Can't quite remember what my dessert was called!
V.
We came here for the ladies lunch in Sept as I had heard Soul had recently changed hands and wanted to try it out.
Food for this menu was nice, although on the small side. The entree (forgot to take a picture but it was ceviche in a tiny jar, served like the dessert) and dessert (pictured) definitely didn't feel like fine dining. Service was ok. One Waitress was very accommodating and took a few group photos for us. The other seemed annoyed when we asked questions or when one of our group had trouble deciding what to order. At the end we felt a bit rushed. It was these last few things that bought this experience down from a 5 to a 4.
Might give it another chance for dinner.
S.
Absolutely fantastic night. The waitress that served us made the night brilliant. Food was divine, super fast. Great atmosphere. Highly reccomend!
V.
This establishment has been around a long time and never fails to deliver. A group of girlfriends and I went there on Saturday for drinks post a disappointing lunch elsewhere (for my birthday), and we had the best time. Our waiter Ash, was very charming and looked after us so well. Celebrating Rose Month, the place was decked out with gorgeous pink flowers; it was positively dreamy and great for photos :-). Along with yummy Rose and pink cocktails, we had the Green Goddess salad, salt & pepper squid and Soul Trinkets - all delicious, and the latter served with a special note which was a lovely, thoughtful touch. Wished we dined there, but will do soon!
W.
Came here with my partner for my birthday. Absolutely love this place! With the stunning view next to the water and delicious food, we had an outstanding night. If you are an oyster lover, this place shouldn’t be missed! My favourite oysters are the ones from Waiheke island, but if you can’t decide, don’t worry because their staffs are very experienced and helpful.
For starters we had chicken liver pate, for main we had roasted hapuku and chicken breast. Also we had ginger crème brûlée and comté fort lucotte for the desserts.
Overall our favourites are the oysters, chicken liver pate and the ginger crème brûlée. Hope it’s helpful for all of you :)
J.
We've been with Soul Bar & Bistro for the past 7 years and they have always been a solid choice of restaurant for good food, good service and a nice atmosphere. We were a little anxious when they had a change of head chef followed by a change of ownership, but luckily nothing else seemed to have changed. Most notably, they've retained their famous salt and pepper squid on the menu and it still tasted as good as the first time we've had it! The most recent visit was for their Ladies Lunch menu, as expected, everyone in our group enjoyed our time over the good food and drinks.
J.
Great atmosphere and delicious food.
W.
Recommended by locals and we are glad we went. Soul bar has plenty of Soul, good tunes, great atmosphere and great food, all overlooking the harbour. The place was full Friday night and everyone was having a great time. Great people watching and plenty of seating both inside and out.
R.
Food quality and cooking was good. Fish oil tastes amazing. Service almost excellent.
However here are the issues:
- Too squished tables
- Waiter having to push my chair in due to limited space while I was eating (he did ask before hand but you shouldn't need to
- No takeaway
- Dishes don't mix with enough veges/carbs. Only your main with nothing else except some bread to eat it with. Should come alongside or on your dish.
- $130 beef dish tastes mediocre
M.
Food is fresh and yummy, actually one of the best in this area. Staff are very friendly and experienced. It's a great place for a fancy dinner in a very beautiful place.
B.
The quality of the the setting sets the scene for an enjoyable meal.
This is fine dining and therefore don't expect to see large portion sizes and prices reflecting this.
For special occasions you will not be disappointed.
t.
great food. scampi cocktail was delicious. as was the Flounder and the company
S.
Great food and vibe. We came looking for snacks and drinks, came across a very tasty Mac&cheese with great ingredients. Cravings satisfied.
i.
Great food, beautiful seating and view even on a rainy day, friendly staff~ The braised beef ribs was so tender and the tune tarare was so flavoursome~ Will definitely return~
W.
Amazing Italian night tonight for the restaurant month, staff and chefs were extraordinary such a great experience!!!!!!
A.
I rarely give 5 but have to here. The service was great.
Market fish (snapper) of the day was just ommmmh. Amazing taste. For 38$. Much cheaper than the 60$ I had at masterton.
Side of broccoli was also tatsy with the cheese sauce 14$.
Highly recommended.
L.
The restaurant is great, food is fantastic with very healthy and also some indulgent options for dessert. Would recommend!
T.
We have a lunch visit at around 12:30pm on Saturday. The outdoor sitting was already full and we can only have a table inside. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and yummy food.
N.
The location and ambience is amazing. Can easily sit here for hours. However, vegetarian food options were limited. The taste was good but did not create an 'aha' moment.
B.
We were in the area looking for a place for some desserts and stopped by here. We were seated outside overlooking the water.
They had quite a few options and I ended up going with the Soul Trinkets. the plate was quite interesting with lots of different flavours and textures. Nice selection of different items to keep things interesting.
Only noticed how nice the inside was while paying.
L.
We've recently had two lunches here - one with a big group and one as a couple. I cannot say enough good things about the experience both times. This must be one of the finest examples of a long-term restaurant that just continues to excel. The food is great value with good portion sizes. The wine menu is extensive. The service is always exceptional. We had a wonderful waiter called Mike last time who just excelled and is a great personality. The venue is wonderful overlooking the viaduct. Honestly we cannot say enough. We will definitely go back.
C.
Beautiful place to have lunch or dinner, love the lamb the scampi cocktail and the bread with truffle butter is amazing. The affogato is quite average though, Ice cream too little to make the coffee milky.
L.
Very nice food, good waiter service would recommend.
S.
Good food but great ambiance and service and location.
They have a full vegetarian and vegan menu with tons of options.
Highlights were the mozzerella toast, the side of potato salad and the pear ginger dessert.
The mac and cheese was good but needed a bit more seasoning and salt to bring out the flavour.
V.
Amazing and friendly service, food was exceptional and even on a busy night arrived promptly
Eye fillet melt in your mouth
Highly recommended
S.
Great food and ambience.
Felt forced to tip by the waiter though, made things kinda awkward as it isn’t usually a norm in NZ.
C.
The food was tasty and well presented just as expected from a Nourish Group restaurant. Good ambience with their all white decors. Without booking , We were able to get a table @6:30 on a busy Thursday night however have to finish by 8. Service was good, But since when in NZ , people have to dress up to go to a Casual bar? I had a feeling the Maître d treated us differently based on what we were wearing. I was totally ignored when paying the bill, On the other hand , she chatted and thanked my friend with a (somehow curious) smile. I was in my gym wear & my friend was dressed in Burberry & Chanel. I know this is a common thing in a lot of places. but I thought NZ is different. Looks like AKL is changing fast. What a material world :( Ruined my night a little.
M.
Very nice place & food. Also did a Birthday plate for my wife on her day, well appreciated.
J.
Had great birthday gathering on Monday evening. Lively, great menu, clean venue. Food served promptly drinks were nice. Everything went beautiful til the server looking down the tip screen of the eftpos machine with comment almost forcing to make tip to thank him if we enjoyed. Well... there is a better way to ask for tip than that.
Y.
Awesome atmosphere and food quality
b.
Great location
Fabulous service
Fish was dry
Never mind we didn't go for the food on that occasion
M.
4th time in the last 2 months and they never miss a beep, delicious food, divine cocktails, top notch friendly staff and best ambience, hence the reason we go back for more
P.
Really enjoy our dinning. Great staff, fantastic foods. Better every time we visit.
Highly recommended Rocket & Parmesan salad side, I have never ordered salad twice
M.
Great food and service with amazing views.
T.
Soul...Amazing food, fantastic cocktails, great atmosphere, brilliant staff one of the best restaurants around.
T.
Great atmosphere, friendly service, loved the food.
A.
Really amazing but make a reservation 😀 perfectly catered to very specific dietary requirements with incredible service and value for money. Will not leave you hungry.
I.
Passed by the place after visiting the Auckland Fish Market. Regretted not having a proper dining here as it’s actually not bad.
We came for the dessert - creme brûlée modern style served with a scoop of sorbet. I requested for a happy birthday note as it was my partner’s bday and they did it. Thank you!!
We had a couple of wines, staffs recommendations were great (the guy knows his stuff!). People who served us were all very friendly and professional.
It’s surprising that this place didn’t come out on the search engine when I tried to find a better dining place in the area. If I do visit Auckland the next time, this will def be on my to go list for a proper meal!
T.
Food was amazing. But it was very busy and it took more than an hour to get our food.
T.
We loved our set menu lunch today for the Australian Bushfire fusion event. The service was great and meals cooked perfectly.
M.
The most delicate oysters, absolutely delicious! And the service is amazing too
S.
Soul Bar is just fantastic! Good food especially the desserts. Service is superb and staff always check on us once in a while to make sure everything is okay. They know their “timing” on when to ask (and not).
I ordered the Hapuku Fish. It was delish but very small serving for its price. I’ll probably order steak and oysters next time. Their Green Goddess Salad is a must try! My friend and I loves it soooooo much. For the desserts, I’ll give it 5/5. It may look like any common desserts that you can get anytime but the taste is just incomparable; there’s always a “twist” in it. Try the chocolate pudding ❤️
D.
Great food and location, unfortunately you have to squeeze through a scrum of people crowding the bar service area to get to the restrooms. Paid good money for quality food and beverages but not happy to have 2% card fee clipped on
S.
Food all with great quality. But they are too salty for me…have three bottles of water after the dinner…
S.
We really enjoy Soul Bar. Food and service always very good.
L.
Soul is one of our favourite places in CBD. The staff are always so welcoming, with and without a reservation, and even when they are busy they are able to personalize our experience.
And the food is AMAZING. Honestly, we've tried several things on the menu and each time it has been fantastic. Always a pleasure.
K.
Lovlely fresh meals with wonderful service! Great location.
I.
Great food and service. Nice view across viaduct too.
K.
Awesome experience , my fav place to hangout on any occasions. Great value for money and good service .
s.
Really enjoyed my lunch here on Monday, great Menu and pricing was reasonable. It was a real treat.
N.
Very beautiful view, so elegant and the food is so good
L.
Decided to try this restaurant on my last night in New Zealand because the food has been rated as excellent. Wanting to end my trip to New Zealand with a bang, I ordered the fried battered tarakihi and substitute the potatoes with fries. Great ambiance and the staff is wonderful; however, I wish I could say the same for the meal. The fish left an after taste that was unpleasant for me. This is the first time having tarakihi fish. I tried the fish with the dill sauce that came with the dish as well as the garlic sauce to see if that would abate the after taste , no avail. I couldn't finish the rest of my meal. I'm not sure if it's the fish or the way it was cooked. Regretting not choosing the safer option, the grill snapper (you can't go wrong with a snapper). I will recommend this restaurant but highly advice against the fried battered Tarakihi.

The location of the restaurant is great, the layout and design are very good. The scenery is beautiful and the restaurant layout is very comfortable. The waiter greeted us very kindly, introduced and recommended meals for us, the meals were delicious, and it is a good restaurant worth recommending!
A.
I am loving the new menu at Soul. It's a must to try this winter. What is not to like. And outlook it a great soothing view.
M.
Booked online with google, very handy. Arrived earlier and was allocated a table. Lots of wine choices, my pappadelle is a bit salty, however tastes nice. Friendly and prompt service!
s.
Really good food and vibes, staff very inviting 🙂
s.
Delicious food, consistent and great service.
J.
Erik was an amazing host coming in for our sisters 22nd birthday, will definitely look into coming in again for a drink. 10/10
j.
Went here with a work group, we had the set menu. They have an excellent vegetarian set menu...albeit a bit to oily. All the meat eaters had food envy in the end! Very good service, with attentive wait staff.
All in all a good time!
No idea of the cost 🙂
T.
Very nice place to sit, eat & drink
Even if the weather is not that good you can sit on the terrace and heaters will be on
Very nice waiters.
Delicious food

Many good experiences visiting over the years. Love coming for the oysters. Great for special occasions.
S.
Nice ambience, view, food was ok. Check the receipt, we got charged on tequila which we did not order.
v.
nice food, but waited too long to be seated. Also the food came out too late.
we were there hour and a half till we ate some food
M.
One of my favorite places to eat in Auckland.. the staff are amazing, super friendly and the vibe is just amazing. Outside decor is always spectacular! Food is next level amazing and drink/wine selection Won't dissapoint. Highly recommend to anyone visiting or local who has never been!
M.
Delicious food, outstanding seafood, coupled with great service and lovely drinks. We took Grandad (95) and they were just fantastic looking after us. West Coast Whitebait, snapper, and their sensational Green Goddess salad. Generous portions delivered in no time. Outdoor table overlooking the viaduct. Lovely craft beer on tap. 5 stars!
D.
Had an awesome night at Soul. The food arrived quickly and each dish was flawless. The atmosphere was amazing and honestly couldn’t fault a thing. Our server Christian completely made the night. Super attentive, friendly and funny. Outstanding service. Thank you soul bar and thank you Christian.
M.
Amazing food and great location. Loved it!!
A.
Food was amazing (little over salted) the main concern was the waiter waiting for us to pay. We asked for the bill and wanted to discuss how to pay in private. But he was breathing down our necks, that prompted us to just pay quicker, when we wanted to either split it between two cards or add cash. His attitude also changed after we declined the tip button. Everyone’s in different Situation and the foods already expensive not everyone can leave a tip after however exceptional the service was prior to the decline (the older gentleman who works there) great service prior though.
G.
Salt n Pepper squid excellent'enough said'.
Great location for lunch or dinner.
Will be coming back.
Not cheap but portions are good.
J.
I went here for my birthday with my partner and we loved it so much. The food, the ambience and the service were a 10/10!
We never usually stay at restaurants for too long but we stayed for about 3 hours here. All love x
B.
Soul has incredible character and amazing food to back it up. The staff and their timing are perfect, service is exceptional and the venue is truly superb. Get an outdoor seat if you can because it's absolutely lovely looking out on the marina during a clear afternoon/evening.
V.
Really loved the food and vibes out there.
R.
Great food, welcoming staff, such an enjoyable experience.
W.
This is a very tasty oyster dinner. Highly recommended with blanc wine! Cheers.
F.
Lovely ambience, food was well presented and tasty. You couldn't find a nicer place to eat, but you probably could get nicer food.
D.
Great atmosphere and the view. Lamb was just ok. Roasted hapuku was really bad. John dory was ok.
A.
From start to finish we were served by an amazing waiter (Michael) who made our experience there more amazing. I recommend being waitered by him. Your experiwnce would become more memorable. Despite that the food was amazing too! Highly recommend this venue.
C.
absolutely amazing service! I got the mozzarella toast and the beer battered Tarakihi and it was absolutely divine! no complaints service was fast and efficient and she was the loveliest gal i’d ever met
R.
Consistently one of Auckland’s top ten restaurants. Efficient service, great menu full of classics and lovely setting on the terrace under the floral hanging baskets.
A.
Family and I chose Soul for my 50th birthday dinner. We were welcomed and made to feel special from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. The restaurant was fairly busy, which was nice and that didn’t have any effect on the great service we received from all the staff especially Charlotte who waited our table and was amazing. The food was great, I had the grilled snapper which was beautiful cooked and just melted in my mouth. Charlotte brought me some sweet treats with a little candle and wished me happy birthday, very sweet. Loved that we could take the bottle of wine we had bought and not finished home. Highly recommended for a great evening of great food, wine, and atmosphere.
D.
Amazing food, ambience and service. The Mac and cheese is out of this world!
I.
Love this place, good place for casual drinks with friends.
N.
Hard to beat the quality of the food here, highly recommend!
A.
So we had what was possibly our best meal out this year last night at Soul Bar and Bistro. We hadn't been for a good few years, not because we didn't like it (quite the opposite), but because there are so many excellent restaurants to try in our fair city. It is every bit as excellent as it always was. Smoked Trevally Toast was a fantastic start, and the Yellow Fish Tuna Entree was good as well. The roast Hapuku was perfectly cooked, tender, moist, just excellent. The two totally stand out dishes however were the lamb racks with Peanut Rayu, and the Green Goddess Salad (which I am going to ask them to share the recipe wth it was so fantastic!). The service was really good, and it's a beautiful dining area. I can't highly enough recommend it.
D.
Unbelievable food and fantatic service. I would recommend this to anyone. Fantastic.
T.
Could not fault the food at all. Everything was cooked perfectly and presented beautifully. Service was great and staff were friendly.
P.
First class service and food, thank you so much.
L.
Dined here during Restaurant Month - had the salt and pepper squid and grilled terakihi. Both were pretty delicious!
N.
Separate vegetarian menu was greatly appreciated. Attentive service. Delicious healthy food. Great views. Divine desserts.
J.
Spent my anniversary here. Staff were very friendly and went above and beyond. We had mentioned we were there celebrating our wedding anniversary. Our deserts came with a chocolate sauce note wishing us a happy anniversary. Thank you. Wish I could visit more often.
C.
The waiter was excellent and the food delicious 😋
g.
Great friendly staff . Beautiful cocktails:)
i.
I like it very delicious and very hearty, very enthusiastic🥰
S.
As a singleton who arrived with no booking. Exceptionally accommodated by gentleman at the door. Food and service was sublime. Great atmosphere. Delighted I was able to dine there. Definitely will be returning.
PS: Fantastic cocktail as well.
H.
The food is very delicious and the dessert was as good ☺️ definitely worth the money.
Worth mentioning that on Fri night, there is loud music in the bar, which could be suboptimal for some, not for me. I am very satisfied and will definitely come back to try other food.
D.
Great view from the deck. Nice menu
A.
Everything about our lunch at Soul was perfect. It was our 45th anniversary
B.
Had my birthday dinner at this place, February 2020...absolutely great service, from Charlotte the waitress, to the outstanding food, presented beautifully, delicious breads, starters, mains and desserts! Great atmosphere, and I was presented with a delicious petit fours dish to celebrate my birthday, compliments of Soul...looking forward to the next visit, and will be taking my Aussie-based family there when they can finally visit Aotearoa again! Thank you Soul and my family for a really excellent meal in the best surroundings..Auckland marina waterfront! Highly recommended.
S.
Crazy to go to one of THE best restaurants in Auckland IMHO just because SWKE (She Who Knows Everything) loves the Mac n Cheese. But she is of course right as it's a lovely place to watch the world go by and eat well frankly. We just love it and you will too
A.
Great spot for lunch and very attentive staff ✔🍾
나.
Great customer service and delicious food
A.
Snapper dish delicious
R.
I am beyond happy with the service a group of my friends and I received tonight. Didn’t catch the name of the waiter, but his service was out standing! He was very accommodating to our table and always making sure the table was cleared promptly and drinks were always topped up. We tipped him at the end because he definitely deserved one. The other staff were very attentive as well, really friendly people. The food was super delicious. Portion sizes are what you’d expect from a more ‘fancy’ restaurant like Soul, prices are reasonable, nothing to complain about really. We/I will definitely be back 😊 There were 9 of us at the table, and we were all leaving with smiles on our faces.
S.
Always impressed by the food and service here. Head waiter on our arrival heard my hubby say 'it's your birthday you decide'. At end of meal plate arrived with Happy Birthday. Amazing.
L.
Fantastic food, enjoyed a dinner - service was top notch right from the time we sat down, friendly knowledgeable staff, we have food intolerances but the waitress knew her menu and very enjoyable meal. We definitely recommend you done here. Best restaurant.
P.
A good restaurant having a good variety of choices and a nice view
M.
Really good food and good views of the harbour. My brother had mac and cheese and really liked it.
i.
very tasty food. very well presented. very courteous service
G.
We had Smoked Terekihi on toast as well as fried Squid for entree, then Scampi Risotto for a main. Absolutely delicious. The best though, was the fish on toast.
A.
My wife and I had dinner here while on honeymoon. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed. Our waiter Christian was amazing. He explained all the food to us, helped us pick out the perfect cocktail and treated us like royalty. He even gave us a special dessert as a congratulations. The food was full of flavor and beautifully presented. A large range on the menu with many vegetarian options. Service was fast and the ambience was perfection.
N.
Can't speak highly enough about the WHOLE EXPERIENCE !!. Service was fantastic, Food was amazing, Drinks were Superb and overall atmosphere Splendiferous !!! Easily an 11 on a scale from 1 to 10 :) - Thanks for such a great lunch and making Wifeys Birthday an AWESOME one !!!
B.
Very nice place. Great quality/price.
A.
By far my fav restaurant in auckland!
Always fantastic service & the food is always consistent.
Yet to have an average meal and i have been coming for 15 plus years (my god i feel old haha)
We recently had a great boozy ladies lunch.
Thanks guys for a good time ALWAYS
S.
Great service, I commend the waiter on taking my food requirements seriously and I also like how we got a seat where I could see the waterfront. The food was of a good quality, nothing in particular stood out but I think it was worth the price.
K.
Had a Christmas function here and loved it. Excellent service with excellent food. The only suggestion I have would be the positioning of the long table we had inside. It was a bit cramped. Other than that a great place where great memories were created.
L.
I took 3 customers to dinner here last week for a business dinner The waiter was amazing and nothing was too much trouble. His advice was good re the food which was just fantastic and worth every dollar.
When we came to leave I declined the tip offer and from then it went down hill. What gives with the expectation that a tip is expected.I was using a company credit ,so not my money !. Two of us thanked him for the great service on the way out and got a distainful sniff. That ruined what had been a great experience.
B.
We were looking for a restaurant with a selection of decent fish dishes and had drawn a blank when walking around Auckland. Eventually I stopped a local who recommended Soul to us.
We ate here on Saturday evening and received both excellent food and service, thanks Michael for all your help with the menu. We came back again Sunday as it was so good and once again received excellent food and service. Harriet was really helpful and a source of information.
If you like good food, good views and a great atmosphere, I have no hesitation recommending Soul as a place to eat.
M.
Attentive service and great views. Prices are in line with the location.
J.
Passed by the place after visiting the Auckland Fish Market. Regretted not having a proper dining here as it’s actually not bad. We came for the dessert - creme brûlée modern style served with a scoop of sorbet.
T.
Great food - really good and lots of interesting choices. Service was excellent - some of the best I’ve had, until the server wanted a tip, after which it went downhill. Public holiday and a surcharge had already been added. Sour end to the meal.
I.
Thank you Soul for an exceptional evening. The food was superb and the waiter service we received from Christian really made our evening. My sister really enjoyed her Happy Birthday surprise. As the organiser of the function I thank you for the kudos, we all enjoyed a memorable evening. Irenie D
D.
That's a perfect place to be for your weekend. Good DJ Music.
R.
Went to celebrate our anniversary - husband ordered a chicken platter and I had a steak plate. Both were fabulous, and the waiter (Ash) made sure we were great and even customized our dessert for our wedding anniversary because he overheard us talking about it. He was very friendly and made sure we were well taken care of. Great food, amazing wine, awesome service, highly recommended!
K.
Fantastic food, and fabulous service! Our waiter Christian was so charming, every attentive, and so much fun. The meals were all cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. Loved it. Highly recommend this place if you want to impress someone.
S.
Great food with great service!
D.
Our usual venue for anniversaries or party. Went there last night with my daughter, wife, and some other family members. The food and service was so great as usual but a special thanks to this lovely team member (MADWIN, sorry if i spell it wrong) who offered us the best customer service. He was very helpful and unexceptional. Thanks for looking after my Mother-in-law and my little girl. Will come back soon.
J.
Great service, lovely & relaxed outdoor setting with gorgeous views. Four of us enjoyed a delicious lunch there with a few cocktails and we were well looked after by Stephanie. Good sized meals so unfortunately couldn't fit in the tempting desserts. Maybe next time...😊
F.
Food is good but lacking abit on customer service. Waitresses were a little slack refilling water and checking in with us to ask on the food and if we wanted anything. Would recommend the scampi risotto and also the scampi linguine.
D.
Came here for our anniversary and loved it. The atmosphere is rather fancy, so a nice place to go to if you felt like you wanted to dress up. Service was friendly and quick. They took our half full wine glasses, but realized shortly after that we haven't left but went to the outside area shortly. Wait staff apologised and brought us without fuss two new wine glasses. Food is great, but expect to pay a bit more. The salt&pepper squid was our starter of choice and because we liked it so much, we actually ordered a second portion right after! The size of the main dishes (we chose fish) is a bit smaller than average , which is why we ended up having 3 entrees and a main each. However, everything tasted sooo good. Would definitely come back.
J.
Haven’t been here for a while but quick to remember why it’s one of Auckland’s best. An amazing menu and everything we ordered was simply amazing. But what made it special this time was our waiter. So rare to to find someone who can speak so knowledgeably about every dish on the menu and offer honest advise. Worthless. An easy sure bet choice if you’re in Auckland.
K.
Wonderfully situated overlooking the harbour. From the moment you step in here the ambiance, staff and overall feel of he place, you realise you are in for a delightful meal. The menu was varied and interesting, and meals, particularly the lamb, was the best I had ever eaten. Staff extremely attentive without being too overbearing. A must place to visit in Auckland.
K.
Good food, plated exquisitely. Responsive, friendly service with a split of indoor/outdoor seating options. A little high priced, but not over the top. Reservations not required, but recommended - they may be able to squeeze you in, but will also tell you when they need the table back. Dress code is all over the map, from hoodie to tux, but recommend dressing on the nicer side.
A.
Beautiful food. Great wine selection. Excellent service. Always an amazing eatery and one of my favourite restaurants.
T.
Nice dinner and very nice service! 😃
C.
A beautiful setting on a stunning Auckland day overlooking the Viaduct Basin. Superb food served by very professional and friendly staff. Everything was a delight, food, drinks, service, location, decor.
S.
Revisit Dec-20. Have been here several times over the years and enjoyed it, but get the impression its not quite hitting the same marks as before. Reserved table not ready, menu options lacked excitement, food quality fine but not not great, a bit of a disappointment this time
A.
Food - amazing
Service - outstanding
Beer - cold.
Cannot fault.
Definitely recommend the Soul Punch lunch, an event they put on every quarter.
J.
No cap this is the best restaurant in Auckland, if you want divine bistro food... what are you waiting for come to soul, 26$ for the best mac and cheese, best squid to and the korean fried chicken is divine, the know how to KFC, oh and the cocktails are A+ tier too, and the service.... Mumma mia I feel important, like the king. Everyone please come here!
R.
Such an elegant and classy place to dine in! Top notch customer service. Impeccable food and presentation 👌. Loved it although it was a little pricey for me.
G.
Good central location with good service and meals.
A.
Beautiful place to eat and fantastic.
Wait staff were also fabulous, highly recommend
R.
Good food with pretty good service !!
Z.
Went for lunch, we were rather delightful with everything
C.
Looking for food at 9.30pm having not long arrived in city. Soul was one of the few eateries still happily accepting customers. Got a table for two, overlooking water, great service, good food and wine. Had 3 different wait staff looking after us, all very attentive.
c.
My favorite restaurant in Auckland. Very friendly waiter and tasty food.
E.
I was given a Mothers Day Hamper and it was so very good.
We specially enjoyed the Crab Lasagne and Rocket/Pear and Walnut Salad.
The dessert was Yum too.
Thanks so much Soul!
P.
One of the best top quality bars and restaurants in Auckland!
Incredible (I mean incredible!!!) food and cocktails.
It's got a gorgeous outdoor area covered with hanging flowers, a beautiful and high class interior and super friendly, knowledgable and professional staff.
The price is up there because you get what you pay for... You just can't fault it at all - stunning
M.
This is one of the best spots to dine in Auckland. If you are a visitor to town you must experience the ambiance, great service and food. The place is pricey but like most things in life you get what you pay for. Been here many times and always had a nice experience
R.
Soul is one of my favourite restaurants. A really great menu regularly reviewed. Excellent wine menu and great selection of wine by the glass. Always highest quality service and a recent refurb of the restaurant looks fabulous. Great setting and pleasant views. I always enjoy coming here.
S.
We were served Micheal tonight, he had excellent taste and superb manners, very much a gentleman. Would recommend soul bar to anyone! Especially if you’re being served by Micheal!
J.
Stunning food, fabulous atmosphere and our waiter Ash absolutely excelled........ Most impressed.😀
J.
Always amazing food and location, it's looking amazing over the summer full of flowers and the viaduct is always alive. Can't go wrong with choosing fish there, but had the flounder and wife had the Hapuku, cooked perfectly and accompanied by some beauty salads and a great selection of wines. Top choice for the viaduct for the past 15 years 👌🏻
R.
My favourite place for my birthday and special events. I do feel a little out of place though as it tends to have the who's who of Auckland there especially with their events. But I'm not one who is big on the social media influencer scene. Although we went a lot this year, the events and social media has put me off wanting to go back in a hurry. The food however, is outstanding and the service.
A.
We went at lunch, sat outside and ordered off the cheaper set menu.. we really enjoyed it, our food was delicious and we saw other people's choices looked delicious as well. The price from the set menu was reasonable, we are on a tight budget so the rest of the menu was too expensive for us however if your purse strings are a little looser then it would probably be fine.
S.
Such tasty food combining exquisite flavours. Good service too.
Great evening! Recommended!
p.
Great service, great food and wonderful atmosphere. Lovely salad and cocktails
T.
We had an amazing time there. Perfect afternoon with great weather. The food was excellent but the thing that made the experience truly great was the service of our waiter Dez (I think he said his name was). Proper service by a charming waiter who took extraordinary care of nan; whom we took there for lunch. Thanks for the great service Dez!
P.
Great spot and great, friendly and helpful waiting staff. Food and wine was some of the tastiest we’ve had (I had the beef tartare, snapper and a side of ‘little horrors’). Pricey, but you get what you pay for.
K.
Food is very good. The service is great too.
I would recommend this place to have a nice dine.
N.
An elegant spot, high class but retaining the buzz of a bistro. Service was excellent, with extremely attentive and courteous waiters. Only point of complaint would be the slightly cramped feel of the seating, however this is very minor.
A.
They carefully tailored to my many dietary requirements with ease. They made me feel comfortable and looked after and produced lots tailored dishes that were devine in looks and taste. They catered to my dairy, free, low FODMAP diet due to IBS and I had no reactions and we returned there a few times on our short trip to Auckland. The atmosphere, the setting, the staff and the food was all great and did the best Margarita I have ever had (and I've tried many places!) highly HIGHLY recommended.
K.
This is really for the management so, I hope they read it! After deciding to splurge on what we hoped would be a quality experience, we were not disappointed. Go to Soul and feel its, well, soul! It's fantastic! My main message, however, is PLEASE have a word with a certain male waiter (management can contact me if they need more information) who thinks it's OK to actually ASK for a tip. And then, when I declined, start to argue the point! Incredible! This took the shine off what was, an otherwise, classy performance by all concerned. Management, as I cannot believe you are encouraging this kind of behaviour, please put the word out that this is not acceptable. Otherwise, a fabulous visit and we hope to return.
C.
The staff went above and beyond to manage our booking and provide special birthday effect at dessert time to ensure our 60th birthday celebration was truly memorable. So very much appreciated. Every dish ordered was praised for it’s wonderful taste and presentation. Happy to have chosen SOUL for our special occasion. Thank you.
A.
Great place to dine or just stop for a bottle of champagne right in the heart of the waterfront. Roxie is one of the star waitresses we have been so lucky to have most times we have dined. Totally recomend
J.
Fantastic place to enjoy great food. Excellent service. Be definitely would return.
M.
The food was superb and the waitress, Jess, was delightful all made for an exquisite dining experience with lovely harbour views, I will definitely be coming back
l.
Service and food were absolutely on point. Our server Holly was a cool professional who efficiently orchestrated our entirely evening. Started w great wine and the fig putanesca and the mozzarella apps. Entrees of the mac-n-ham and the green goddess salad w beef were delicious. Perfect evening on the Auckland harbor on the lovely porch w gorgeous hanging plants.
S.
It seemed like we annoyed the staff to start with, as we were clearly the biggest, noisiest and least fancy group they'd had in for a while. But the food was delicious, definitely recommend staying for the desserts, and they put up with us well. Can't rate it as a "nightclub", but the cocktails with food were nice. 🍸
P.
Went to Soul for dinner on our first evening of our honeymoon. Staff helpful and friendly, although wine knowledge from our waiter was lacking. Food excellent, unpretentious and delicious. Had the chicken liver parfait to share, snapper for my main which was terrific, while my wife had the spanner crab spaghetti which was delectable. Decided on two desserts being the creme brûlée with apple crumb and rhubarb ice cream and the snickers bar parfait. Both good, especially the creme brûlée. Nautilus Sauvignon Blanc perfectly drinkable and well made coffees to finish. As it started to pour with rain, the waiter took us through the back door to where taxis were waiting which kept us dry. Lovely evening and highly recommend.
C.
It’s nice place for date
T.
Last Saturday 23 JAN enjoyed amazing cocktails with friends, especially the Espresso Martinis. It was a shame the music was so loud the ceiling panels were vibrating and distorted. Try sitting on the balcony
E.
Lovely place! Really enjoyed the hapuku fish & crayfish raviolo!
O.
Amazing food and location. Most of our table got the roast halibut and a mixture or sides to share. Service was good but a but slow on the drinks. Nice rest for a long Sunday lunch.
J.
Absolutely fantastic, best meal during our entire NZ trip! We almost want to go back to Auckland each day to get more. Highly recommend!
D.
Service was great. Food was very good. Medium-rare steak was cooked perfectly. Certain items could use more/revised seasoning. Overall definitely recommend dining at Soul.
A.
We were hungry and dining late 945pm on a Saturday.
No problem for them to give us the next table that was just being cleared. We go to the bar to order a drink and bam the table is ready, as I walk I say 1 dozen oysters please as we are being sitted.
Half Waiheke and Half Clevedon Bay. Waiheke were small and sweet and my pick for the night.
We ate 4 starters between the 3 of us. Good as well, I had 2 sides asparagus and potato salad and a beef skewer. Now that was a great idea heaps of perfectly cooked asparagus was just the ticket. Liked the potato salad and beef too. Father and Son had pasta that they like too.
Lovely welcoming staff who knew just how to serve the food to us. Only moan was from the husband who had to wait too long for drinks that were ordered. But I didnt notice because I was eating lol
D.
Amazing place. Went here for my wife and I wedding anniversary. The staff were great. The food was amazing. They even wrote happy anniversary on our dessert. Very much recommend.
B.
Had a 8pm booking on Friday night, arrived and found the restaurant was buzzing, lots of people, shown straight to table, all good. Food was nice, service was good except waitress knocked over a glass of red wine which went all over a plate of unfinished food and a cell phone and splashed all over one of our parties shirt.. They didn't even clean up the table or offer to replace the wine. We had to mop up the mess and cover it up with napkins. Then the music started. We were sitting near the bar and the music they were playing was very loud dance music...which is great if you go to a pub/nightclub and want to dance etc. It's not OK when you are paying top dollar for a meal and you can hardly hear your dinner companions speak. We asked the waitress why the music was so loud and she said she would ask if they could turn it down. They then pulled a curtain halfway across the dining area which did quiet the music but later on it was pulled back again. Soul, you need to decide are you a restaurant or a night club...you can't be both. I know I won't come back which is a shame because the location and food is great.
B.
Great service and excellent food
L.
100% Satisfaction Guarantee. Excellent customer service and great experience.
I.
Location & Ambience excellent. Service excellent.
Food GROSSLY overpriced. Less than 100gr of steamed Hapuka, 1 xTruffles Ravioli with barely discernable taste of truffle, & a teasoon of fresh 'spinach cost $40.00. Rocket & Parmesan salad $11 in a small bowl. Rocket & baby kale with a vinegrette dressing & a tiny taste of parmesan. Everything very plain & my 16 year old has produced similar for $10p/p in 30 minutes.
Very disappointed to see the standard has dropped & the menu has succumbed to restaurant snobbery.
You were much better than this Soul Bar.
J.
Such an amazing place. The food was awesome and the staff were sooo efficient and friendly. Our son who was in charge of the refurbishment a whike back took us there last night for dinner. We were so impressed. So well done!
H.
Nice food lovely staff great location
4 star because it's good food but nothing blow mind
Definitely the best in that area
B.
Great atmosphere, Location and Food. Very good service, even though it was very busy.
K.
Oysters are really unacceptable for $6.00 each. Fish superb Wagu Sirloin with shiitake mushrooms was hit & miss sauce sensational steak 100% tasteless suggest you find a new supplier.Service great
A.
Great meals.Great service
N.
Went recently, great food, was very impressed, and it's a nice location.
S.
We came with a group on a warm summer evening and it was lovely sitting outside surrounded by the flower arrangements. We had fresh and delicious oysters to start, and salt and pepper squid that was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The oven roasted hapuku with ravioli main was also very delicious, and I'd recommend the cauliflower side. Cocktails were a bit hit and miss - we had to send back a whiskey sour because it didn't seem to have any sours added, however the espresso martini was on point. Wait staff were professional and knowledgeable, but a little too sassy (bordering on rude). This is definitely one of the best dining spots in the Viaduct and an Auckland institution for good reason. I'd come back for a long lunch for sure!
A.
Excellent in every way, nothing was a problem, all courses were full of taste and flavour. You really get what you pay for.
F.
Awesome food. Amazing view
G.
Prices are high, service is top notch, oysters and wine are really good. The crowd is leaning boomer-ish, but it’s no surprise really 😬 Great for a special night out.
S.
Always a special place for dining. Beautiful food great service lovely setting in the viaduct.
P.
OMG what a delicious lunch I had the tuna tartare followed by the green goddess salad with hapuka skewers simply divine. My friend had the salt & pepper squid followed by the pork belly and risotto which he rated as one of the best he's had. Have to make special mention of Des the greatest asset to the waiting team here he's an icon of the restaurant and made our experience so pleasurable
J.
Very good service. My pappadelle is a bit salty.
C.
Went to Soul Bar and Bistro last night for dinner and was blown away at how amazing everything was. Both my date and I were incredibly happy with our experience, The service outstanding, Food seasoned perfectly, presented with care and thought and the price well that too was excellent. Well done to the Ladies and Gents that work at Soul Bar and Bistro I take my hat off to you.
B.
Oysters great, chowder not so great. Clam pasta spoilt by burnt butter and crumbs. When I mentioned this to the friendly waitress upon her asking how the meal was she didn't offer to have another cooked and celebrating special birthday so didn't want to spoil it then, but they really need to up their game with so much competition at the Viaduct.
C.
Some of the best staff in town, great for a quick snack, a couple drinks, first date or even a big ol function. All round amazing place to eat or drinks. The mac an cheese is a must have. Easily the best value meal in the viaduct in my opinion.
R.
Great service and good food, went for a family dinner for our wedding anniversary. It was very busy but the service was great 😀
J.
As is standard for Auckland the oysters were excellent. The difference between south seas and north seas oysters is very marked. In the more northerly areas, the uk, San Francisco for example the oysters are excellent but have clearly had hard lives. They’re often described as meaty or sweet in these regions. However, the south seas oyster has a blessed life and is fatty and juicy. Soul shows this off well. And the meat options are very good, unsurprising the New Zealand lamb was delicious.
M.
Wow!! Exceptional venue that was buzzing and welcoming. All staff were brilliant and attentive. Food was delicious and high quality ingredients. Will certainly re visit
P.
Because they do great food are a bit fancy and very down to earth when you need help with your old person vision and the small font on the menu :)
J.
Dinner was great
Went into the bar to watch the rugby and they refused to play commentary even though everyone was watching the game and not ordering drinks. Left to find an establishment that would. I won't be back.
J.
Average service. Food was above average but still overpriced. They charged 11 for sparkling water.
L.
I've been coming to soul for a few years now. It used to be a great place to come for a drink, but something's changed. The service isn't that great and you aren't allowed to drink out front any more. I'm really disappointed with my recent experience at soul bar. I'll come back once you've sorted it out.
C.
Great food and atmosphere. The staff were incredibly attentive. Had an amazing experience! (Ate the food before we had a chance for photos)
T.
Always good. Took our 12 year son with loads of food allergies and he was well looked after and ate well! Cant wait for our next visit.
R.
I visited soul bar with a friend and was a bit annoyed at the distance and the struggle through traffic to reach the spot.. But what a wonder.. No pain no gain was surely meant to remind once of such gains.. It is now a frequent visit spot.. Any salary hikes will be spent at soul
P.
Friendly waitress and excellent menu.
S.
Great food and atmosphere and they’re are really accommodating for larger groups. We had a few extra people turn up on a busy night and they did all they could to get us all seated.
J.
Such a beautiful outdoor space with the flowrrs and view. Food and level of service always cinsistently excellent. Psst if you like an Espresso Martini have one here, as I my opinion they are the best in town!
J.
Nice atmosphere, great staff. However, there were several bones in my fish which some people may not be happy about. I mentioned it to the staff. Quite expensive, but so are all the restaurants in the area.
C.
Pretty classy, came here for a free business lunch. Wouldn't mind paying money to eat here again. The menu is great, interior well designed and maintained. Staff were professional and polite.
S.
Good hospitality, organised, delicious food. The rhubarb ice cream is gorgeous and the ciders were really good. They have meals for any food type and they all fill you up, if course minus room for dessert 😉.
K.
Totally nice place for dessert. Next time we will have the full dinner. Lovely staff. Very helpful and pleasant. Great dessert range
F.
A place full of flowers all year around. Cocktails are not bad.
S.
Great view. Great food. Oysters and tiger prawns in particular were superb!
I.
I live in San Francisco, USA which has lots of excellent restaurants. Soul was the first restaurant I dined in upon arrival in New Zealand. The food was outstanding. Very very delicious!
My fiance and I left with big smiles on our faces.
D.
Awesome food, outstanding customer service. Thanks Soul Bistro. Memorable evening out.
L.
A fine dining delight with a full separate vegetarian menu (including vegan options) and a nice harbour view. We went to town on the cheese options, the spaghetti alla chitarra was the standout dish. Chilli and garlic featured heavily in the menu but other flavours could be found.
I.
Gorgeous setting, nice wine variety. Food was above average but not life changing. Dont take kids, no high chairs, kids meals are tiny and v expensive.
K.
Always one of our best place to visit while in Auckland but service wasn't that great this time around.
S.
Always pleasure to dine @ Soul Bar, beautiful atmosphere! Professional services and would recommend to everyone, well actually i do all over the Far North! I work for FORD & MAZDA and most our Execs dine here :-) well recommended
K.
Absolutely amazing food and service. One of THE restaurants to visit in Auckland. Not only is the food flavoursome and cooked to perfection, its very reasonably priced for a 5 star like this.
K.
My Whitebait fritter was lovely. Such an awesome location at the Viaduct too. Try and get a table with a view.
D.
Always a nice spot to have a few afternoon drinks and bite to eat. Been here a number of times over the years and got to congratulate them on 'consistency' - always excellent food and fantastic service from the team.
J.
Ashish has outstanding service. Highly recommend. He has helped us serve our table. Amazing service ! He deserves a promotion. Will visit again , Fantastic.
R.
Perfect! We had a fabulous night: very friendly helpful staff, delicious food and beautiful outlook - oh and good cocktail hour 5-6pm!!!
H.
The DJ lastnite was amazing. A pity it was a quiet night ..I enjoyed listening to him play.
The food was amazing...and so was the young waiter from Argentina. He is so pleasant.
R.
An amazing eatery. Everything was perfect - the menu, the food AND the service was well-timed and friendly. And of course the view was great too.
B.
I was surprised that the service wasn't better? no one ask whether our meals and drinks were oK. I had the salt & pepper squid, it was ok average, my husband had the ravioli which was delish, for mains I had the duck, this was very disappointing, it was chewy and not enjoyable. my husband had the pork which was melt in the mouth. over all a 50/50 meal for $170 a lot of money.
B.
Beautiful food, fantastic outlook, great service
E.
Attentive but not intrusive service, delicious and fresh food, attractively presented, reasonable prices and clean amenities. Will happily be back!
G.
This place was pretty good. We had the Duck and Over the Moon. The duck was done very well in a light yet savory sauce and but the Over the Moon tasted a bit off. When we told the waitress she took it back and asked what we wanted. We ordered the Mac n'cheese instead and it was bomb! The waiter came and told us that the chef had tasted the O.T.M. and that it tasted off to him as well so they would like to offer us a complementary dessert (which we were going to order anyway!) we got the creme brûlée and it was super duper yum. I mean you would put it in your mouth and it would just melt! It also came with some home made ice cream. We went back the night after and ordered another one each!!! Would go back there for sure.
Dishes were a bit meat heavy and not enough veggies.
J.
really nice...especially the oyster.
T.
This place has some of the best seafood I've ever had. Good location too.
A.
Or location of choice down at the viaduct. We've had a numerous fantastic meals at Soul bar over the years constantly to quality for and service. Last night we even had room for the desserts which confined the tradition of to quality food.
G.
Founder and oysters and panhead beer. Nice
N.
Never had a bad meal here. Excellent service food location cant fault it
S.
Excellent menu, excellent food, excellent staff. All in all an excellent venue. We will definitely be back.
T.
Great food and professional service. Everything was good, but the steak, the beef tartar and the tuna tartar were outstanding.
G.
Very disappointing lunch today ...at $40 for a fish dish you should be able to expect a consistent quality & portion size...and can you announce your the manager in charge !! to reassure the customer its being managed correctly these young people seem to have there own rules when it comes to complaints !!
M.
Very '80s, very busy, nouveau riche types food was excellent. Not cheap.
K.
Good atmosphere with tasty food and drink
J.
Always a fantastic experience!!!
R.
Excellent meal and service
Cocktails are good value & quick delivery..
Thanks Soul Bar
D.
Absolutely stunning food, service was fantastic.. can see why Des is top waiter in the world 😉😙. Thankyou Judith for your hospitality...you are the best ....we love our Soul Family 😍😍😍
J.
Amazing service. Only had a cocktail but was so well looked after. Beautiful atmosphere! A must visit!
p.
I was diagnosed with terminal cancer
But I refused to let it ruin my quality of life
Thank you soul
Your staff were amazing
The food as usual 100%
A.
I have been a regular customer of Soul, either for dinning or partying and it's always good. Prices are not cheap but the view and atmosphere pay them off. Food is yummy!
A.
Such a brilliant night the music was incredible I really enjoyed interaction with the staff. An eclectic gathering of unique people genuinely willing to engage
N.
Great location and one of the best places for brunch or lunch during summer outside. Can't go wrong with dinner here. A menu that will please everyone. The oyster platter is a must!
D.
Amazing food, service and atmosphere. What a credit to the auckland hospitality industry. Could not fault our evening at soul.
E.
Atmosphere & ambience is great. Service is average as most of the time, we had to call for service and food is just average. Won't go again as its quite costly.
A.
Excellent quality food, very friendly staff, and fancy atmosphere. Meals have some great flavours and are comforting.
A.
As a vegan it's one of the few places we can go in Auckland that puts on top notch food. They go out of their way to provide a specially printed vegan menu to chose your meals from which is a nice touch as opposed to most places that have to umm and ahh about what they might be able to whip you up.
Prices are good, atmosphere is lovely down at the viaduct and overall a really nice place to eat.
C.
fantastic location, great food and very friendly and attentive staff. The views are awesome. Great for lunch or dinner.
K.
I hesitated to bring my very well-travelled overseas visitor here as I'd heard that it was trendy for the sake of being trendy. We could not have been more pleased with our dinner nor the service.
Friend raved about his lamb (I think it was lamb). But I was astounded to find that they had not only a separate vegetarian menu but also a vegan one! I'm used to having to work with a confused server about what constitutes meat ("you eat fish and chicken, though, right?") or dairy ("you can have yoghurt, right?"). Instead I had a well-informed and very helpful server and an absolutely delicious meal that wasn't some cut down version of the "real" food for "normal" people.
I will happily go to the Soul Bar again, and speak up when my friends tell me that it's over-rated.
s.
Excellent food, service and location.
Wish we could have gone again. Book so you don't miss out.
A.
The Goddess salad was delicious. Service attentive but not pushy.
A.
The lamb is excellent as expected. The pasta however is beyond expectations, as good as the best pasta we tasted in new york's eataly.
A.
I am lost for words to describe just how incredible the food, ambience, drinks and the overall feel is. Nothing less than 5 stars. Comes with a price of course. But it's worth it!
G.
The food was amazing!it was my first time eating something medium rare and it was a pleasant surprise. The vibe of the whole place was nice and the staff was super friendly
S.
As usual great service and yummy cuisine. Very enjoyable lunch at a great venue.
A.
Fantastic service, excellent food - definitely recommend the duck tortellini
K.
Always have the best time here... fantastic food... amazing views... attentive staff in a relaxed yet upmarket environment ... keep it up guys
G.
Good food. Prompt service. Excellent vegetarian menu for my friend. I would go back. Walk in from the side entrance opposite Tepid Baths (sign says Portofino). Enjoy!
M.
Food was great. Atmosphere was great. Service was a tad meh. Need better aim when pouring water, table got just as much as we did
h.
The waiter was excellent which made a perfect place even better. The food was beautiful and fresh which matched the view.
N.
Fantastic food and location. Great place for an afternoon or evening in the city. Great cocktails so you better book a taxi home.
A.
Great food atmos and views, service was excellent.
The Clients love it here👍
S.
wow... fabulous place for a special lunch with old friends, the staff sublime, food stunning.
a.
Great food, service and view on the balcony. A little pricey but worth it.
J.
Interior is dated but the food and staff are impeccable. One of the true great Auckland eateries
V.
I think this is one of my favorite places to go with my partner but last 2 times service has become very average. Dont understand what has happened to all there mature staff . Just school kids almost.
P.
Location, food and service has been consistently excellent for a long time. Most of the staff have also been there for a long time which says a lot for this restaurant.
K.
Fantastic food and very helpful and knowledgeable wait staff. They have a separate vegetarian menu which is very helpful and the view of the harbor is just the cherry on top!
R.
Nice location friendly staff good food
V.
Soul is a really special restaurant.
Food is amazing, highly recommended 👌 😋 👍
Thank you for a great time.
T.
I'm here almost every day. Great food great wine, amazing staff and service. And those views from the balcony.... With the flowers Infront of the viaduct.
G.
Overall a great dining experience - food was delicious and the service was top notch!
B.
We had perfect seating on a lovely day eating whitebait fritters! What more could you want!
S.
Soul Bar has that aura of sophistication of a decade gone by. It was once quite a glamorous place. These days the waitresses are snobby to women and flirt with the guys. Very tacky.
H.
Came here for a drink. Most of the wait staff where pretty good. One was a bit grumpy. Wine menu is good.
R.
Very good - not a fan of chilli though so limits my food list
J.
Wonderful lunch. Great staff. Nice atmosphere
D.
Delicious food prepared with lots of flare. The service is attentive , relaxed chic atmosphere and great harbor views.
L.
Great service and food.
Very hard working women on dishes she never stopped from where we were sitting.
T.
Fantastic atmosphere, delish food!
G.
Upmarket eats. Food for our group was a little mixed but mine was great. Superb service and wonderful outdoor setting.
L.
Lovely place, friendly staff, good wine and food. You might experience a Q if you want to seat outside so be there early. No reservations.
A.
Great food, lovely ambiance & the service was phenomenal
s.
Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Order the Mac n cheese! It's out of this world good! I also had the miso caramel parfait which was A+
J.
Tried hot mussels and lamb rack which are very good. Lamb is so tender and the sauce is a good combination. Overall the last point deducted is the price.
R.
Yum yum yum!!!!I had the wagyu carpaccio and lamb rack.My partner had the pork belly. They were amazing.cooked perfectly.the staff were very attentive and friendly. We look foward to our next visit.
J.
Beautiful restaurant by the pier. Food was delicious but staff were perhaps too busy for any service. Rather pricey but worth a visit.
