Best sweet corn fritters EVER. All the best flavours, huge portion, quality is always consistent and food is always served hot. Yum as. Picture of a big fat French toast also delicious and an omelette. Come and eat here most weekends because the food is so goood.

Have been here a few times over the last year, once for breakfast, once for dinner and sometimes for a quick coffee i have a very mixed review. Sometimes the food has been lovely but others it has been subpar. There is a slightly strange vibe about the place, maybe poor lighting or odd seating arrangement, or poor managment, however at the end of the day the staff are always very nice and helpful :)

Another new neighborhood adventure today. Grab a seat in this famous cafe & restaurant The Block. Very nice hospitality, waiters are young and energetic, smile on their faces, just love that kind of feeling. Order Harshbrown and coffee I am satisfied with the Harshbrown, very tasty. Great location, plenty of street parking, walking to countdown and liquor shop which is super convenient.

It's a great cafe with great options of meat-free breakfast. The coffee is average. Staff is very hospitable and service is quick too. They are happy to help you with the menu. We ordered Mochachino and Tartare Avocado Bruchetta. Bruchetta was absolutely delicious. The hazelnut-chocolate-vanilla shot that we added to our coffee kind of made our coffee not so good, however I would like to give it another chance and try it without the shot. Ambience is quite peaceful and gives you complete sunday vibes! Would definitely like to go there again and explore more on the food.

Came for breakfast, got 2 eggs on sourdough & side of salmon. Asked for my eggs to be ruiny & it came out dry so waitress took it back to change. Sour dough was tough to eat, dry & bit burnt so asked for tomatoe sauce to soften it up. Was lil disappointed in my food.

Place and ambience is great Went there for family birthday dinner with an infant and child. Service was abit slow but friendly staff. Had the platter which had some interesting flavours. Didn’t get to try the sliders. Supporting our local businesses we thought to try out The Block Cafe, service was ok, however i specifically request my Chai to be extra hot, the waiter confirmed only to get it served luke warm...not many cafes know what extra hot is. I couldnt be bothered going back and asking for another one. We ordered the eggs bene with mushroom, went well with the pesto however bacon is not included, that is priced seperately & also the big block breakfast which comes with cowboy beans but without the meat (didnt taste any meat) just the tangy sauce which just taste similar to baked beans.

Visited on the weekend for lunch. There were many customers. Ordered the Salt Fish Tacos ($18.50) and Japanese Fried Chicken ($12.50) to share between two. The amount of vegetables in the tacos was a nice surprise and both dishes tasted wonderful, with just the right amount of flavour. Very friendly and helpful staff. Overall, a great experience.

Arrived after the lunch crowd on Saturday. Fast service, plenty of food in the cabinet. All very tempting, perhaps a little too tempting in the case of the donuts, but then that's why belts have more holes than you need. Coffee was great too.

Great cafe located in the blockhouse bay. Probably the best one around in this area. The food is generally tasty but some can be overloaded with texture. I highly recommend their duck tacos. It’s an unusual fusion but tastes great. Staff are friendly too.

I enjoyed the indoor/outdoor flow and the variety to choose from on their breakfast and lunch menu. A bit of confusion at the start - didn't know I had to get my own menu and then order at the front. Wasn't offered any water or advised where to grab some from. I ordered the corn fritters with stuffed mushrooms. There was only one mushroom that came out on the plate which was disappointing. Corn fritters were delicious and fluffy. Staff were relatively friendly but I do have hesitations going back especially as it is a bit pricey for what you get.

The food was tasty and just a little bit different. We ended up treating our chicken bao and duck tortillas as if we were at a tapas restaurant and enjoyed sharing. The fries were also excellent. The rest room could have been cleaner.

We ordered lamb shank for dinner last Friday night. Mash potato and brown sauce tasted like were made out of instant packets you can buy in the supermarkets. Nothing special at all. It was so unfortunate for a Friday dinner date after a week's work. The server, sorry I forgot his name, was gracious to our request. Kudos to you. Also, the place feels like you're having dinner in a storeroom/stockroom with tables.

Terrible cabinet food, got a chocolate cupcake and a bacon muffin. Both seemed very old and bland, got first thing in the morning. Been here for breakfast/coffee which was pretty good just dont eat the cabinet food.

The food here is consistently good quality. We had a loaded nachos and I had the eye filled, something I very rarely do as so few NZ restaurants cook a seriously good steak. The eye fillet was outstanding. Cooked exactly as requested and with a great crust and was well rested. Some of the fancy steakhouses in Auckland could learn a thing or two. The big problem was the service which needs a decent lift. Water was never provided till asked for it and our waiter barely gave me a minute to taste my food before asking if it was ok. I recommend this place.

A great cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. Parking is either on the road or up by the library. Friendly, attentive, professional staff. I highly recommend the smoothies! The site is accessible, with a ramp and railings.

Had very nice cup of tea here, outside on the veranda, there was even a bowl of water for my dog. Walking distance from some shops and a nice atmosphere. I’d like to come back one-day and explore the menu. Free parking in front of the cafe.

Came here with family after it being recommended by a good source. The service was friendly, atmosphere great and food delicious. The plate sized hash brown with smoked salmon was more than I expected. Great flavours and the salmon was cooked fillet rather than pre-packaged raw salmon. I would have scored 5 stars but when we arrived the staff were a little all over the place. They soon picked up their game though and appreciated the attentive service that followed. I have to commend their taste in music and the person in charge of it needs a pay rise. Overall I highly recommend everyone experience this place.

Flattered to think I look that manly but probably a slight misjudgment of customer... The general feeling that we got from the wait staff was that they had other places they would rather be. It was around the start if the new year and quite sunny so the beach could have been on their mind.. I wouldn't blame them!

Absolutely delish meals and drinks! The last family favorite Cafe closed down after lockdown and this is now our new favorite! Staff are really helpful and friendly and the venue is clean, tidy and gorgeous! Highly recommend!

Incredible food and service! The staff are very friendly and have great people skills. The food is on a whole other level compared to anything else and provides meals that are cooked to absolute perfection! There is quite a lot of seating inside, and a few tables outside if you want to sit outside.

The Block is one of the only options for us cafe wise coming from Mt Roskill South. The food is really good, beverage options are great, the layout, music, artwork is also really good and they are always updating the layout and seating which is awesome! It's always such a gamble though.... you know you are going to get great food.... you just never know how long you are going to wait to place your order and then to receive your food- no matter what day or time you go by. Today my partner and I ordered drinks and sides about 2pm on a Sunday afternoon in a half full cafe. After quite a wait to be served, and then again for our drinks to arrive- the food never made it. We were told there was a mix up with the printer.... but unfortunately, we didn't have time to re-order and wait again. I was grateful to the staff for not charging us for the drinks.... but I was actually hungry and looking forward to the options we had chosen to soak up the delicious beer I had already consumed while waiting! I love that they hire local young people, it's great to give them opportunities and the staff are always really friendly and sweet.... but I also feel like The Block could have one senior person per shift to ensure all the beginners have someone backing them up and running the ship. I really do love The Block.... and I will go back, because the food and atmosphere is really good. I just always make sure I am not in a hurry!

It's a shame you can't rate 4.5 stars as this place is definitely above 4 but not quite 5 yet. The block is my go to place on weekends for coffee and occasional brunch (as we often adventure outside of our turf to try other places). It never disappoints. The food is always well cooked and generously portioned with matching services on most days . My only complaints are the sub par service on rare occasions (e.g. ignored by multiple waiting staff when the café isn't packed) and the lack of savoury hangover cure options (e.g. bacon egg baps) when I don't have much time to sit down for a meal. Overall a very honest business which is warmly supported by locals.

Something has changed at this place... used to be my favorite breaky spot. Everything was just OK. Raw egg kinda ruins the lovely crunchy Sourdough toast... no celery in the Bloody Mary, among other minor disappointments. I know just the little things. But they really let the place down today sadly.

Well worth the drive out of central Auckland to this cafe at Blockhouse Bay. Our lunch of duck tacos, BLT sandwich and a personal favorite of mince on toast with fried egg and oven baked tomatoes all complemented by local craft beers was enjoyed by our group. Absolutely beautiful meals. We had the hand cut chips with Sriracha mayo. Lamb back strap and Confit pork belly - wow they got the flavour profiles perfect. Pork melted in your mouth with a tasty apple/sultana accompaniment. Lamb had a smokey bbq taste which was beautiful and pink and tender that went perfectly with the hummus and pomegranate. YUM! Atmosphere was great, mellow sounds played as small groups dined. Staff were attentive and happy to help. We'd highly recommend dining here, I know we'll definitely be back. The food here is great and this cafe has become a regular for me! Unfortunately the service is not fantastic. Whilst the staff are friendly they can be very slow coming to take your order and food and drinks can take a long time to come. If you are fine with the waiting, it's an awesome place!!
