Reviews of Fairlie Bakehouse
Had the pork and crackle pie. Best pie I have ever had. The coffee was great too. It’s a must to visit if you are heading through or near to Fairlie.
From my perspective, I have to say this is the best pies bakery in New Zealand after I have tried a bunch of bakeries. I would recommend "Salmon pie", so brilliant and tasty. My friends love it as well. Must-tryyyyy
I am super happy they have gluten free options so I could go in with my family! I asked for a pie at first expecting it to be the same size as the regular pies but it was tiny so I also got the bacon/egg/potato frittata. Both were super yummy. I would probably say the frittata was nicer than the pork/apple pie because gluten free pastry is always a bit of a let down. My non gluten free Mum tried the pastry and said it was nice.
I didn't have any sweet treats but they also had gf options for those too plus a well stocked drinks fridge. I forgot to ask if the hot chocolate powder is gf.
Two large toilets that were tidy and plenty of seating outside. The line moved quickly even though it looked long. Was only in line for a couple of minutes maximum despite a huge line going out the door. Lots of friendly staff made the experience great and fast!
Great pies. A friend of mine bet me that after I try the pies at this place, I would agree with him that this place had the best pies in the South Island. He was right.
Vegetarian pie was great, I also tried the custard square and it was yummy but a little too big for me so I couldn’t finish it. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating, parking is easy. Worth a stop !
Stopped here for breakfast while heading to our holiday destination(as we always do when in this part of NZ!). My cheese and pumpkin seed scone was very tasty. My partner was impressed with the amount of bacon in his breakfast roll. There are always lots of other customers around when we visit which is a good sign
Best pies in the country hands down! Pork belly pie and bacon and salmon are crowd favourites and for good reason. Plus there's a huge range of other mouth watering sweet treats for all. Couldn't drive past without stopping there.
Excellent pies and marvellous sweets.
Must be something in the water around them there parts.
OMG, I have got a pork belly pie and a salmon pie. these are the best pies I have ever eaten in my whole life. I dont know others, but you have to try these 2. These 2 would never let you down. fk, they are so good that I would drive hundreds km next time just for these pies. They are not cheap but definately worth it. These pies you could recommend to everyone you know and they wont be disappoint. fk those bad reciews. people dont even know wht are they talking about, these pies are so food.
The pics are magnificent. As they should be. The coffee is great. Must visit.
My only qualm is there was no highchair for our daughter. Inexpensive to get but I understand not everyone has a small child so.
I wouldn't say that my pie was the best I had ever had but it was still good. I have had nicer flavours from the bakehouse than the lamb pie. I would still recommend the pork one and the steak one. The shop was bustling and I was really impressed with how efficient they were with their service.
Go get these pies, donuts, cronuts and various baked goodness. You will not be disappointed as they are the best. Local owned and operated. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Worth a drive and a wait for a good pie
As they say- Each pie from the Fairlie Bakehouse is hand-filled so that the inside is always what you hoped for - rich, succulent and full of flavour.
Pork belly and apple pie...simply the best pie I have ever tasted. Small Gf pies and cakes available.
Oh my wow! I got a pork belly and apple pie and a cream doughnut. The pie was AMAZING! It was legitimately slices of pork belly in apple sauce as you can see from the picture. And the cream doughnut had jam top and bottom and was so delicious! Definitely stop there!
What a fantastic bakery..turned up yesterday afternoon and the queue was out the door and down the footpath...decided to stay and wait till morning...Best idea ever, the pies are perfect...so worth the drive
Fairlie bakehouse, more like barely awake cows. Coffee was so bad I wanted to drive off a cliff. Who tastes spicy chai and says it's sweet? These 可笑的家谱 do. Pie was good though. Recommend, 3⭐
5 star pies and 4 star coffee but, hey we are here for the pies right?! I did make the mistake of trying a sausage roll once. Huge but just boring stodgy sausage meat with no flavour. How is this even made by the same people? I couldn't eat it. But, still... the pies!
Awesome pies! The place gets pretty hectic and busy but has loads of outside tables. Also a park down the road if you want to sit somewhere quieter. Pork belly pie was good!
A year ago, we bought 6 pies from them just before they closed. First impression was they were so hot then and then after the bite we all realised they were the best pies we ever ate! I can still remember we all fight for the last pie after one for each of five of us. Damn! I shouldn't write down as I could only eat for $1 paknsave pie in my fridge now! I hate covid!
Must be the best pies in NZ. Two favourites - salmon and bacon, and pork belly with crackling and apple sauce. Both amazing. Be prepared to queue for the pies
Very nice pies. Point off for not having a steak pie. They only have steak and cheese . The server got a bit defensive when asked for a steak pie which I thought wasn't unreasonable.
The queue on a school holiday day will be the first hint you're in the right place - the grinning faces over large and bouncy-pastried meat pies will be the 2nd. They're some of the best pies in NZ, which means these are some of the best meat pies anywhere. Plan your trip and out of central Otago around being here for a snack. You won't regret it.
Usually, this is a must stop and have a pie shop. But not today, Creamy chicken pie was certainly not Creamy. A pie menu outside would be a good idea. Staff were very busy and it showed.
One of the bestest PIES in NZ. We stopped here for lunch enroute Christchurch to Queenstown. Freshly baked pies at the Bakehouse, absolutely crispy and simply delicious. Very crowded but fast and courteous service..impressed...!!!
Cheaper price tags. $6-$7.90 depending on flavours. We had creamy chicken and pork-soleman one. Delicious pastry - you can see it’s actually pieces of chicken, not mushy. I will totally recommend to have you if you are passing from Fairlie. Washroom is also there.
Your pies are the Real Deal! Hands down to being the best in the world! No where else in the world have I had such an amazing savoury pie! The variety is to write home about not too mention the outstanding variety of pies to choose from. Certainly a place for many more repeat visits. If you haven't been then go and make it a feast for the pie lovers this is paradise!
I have eaten A LOT of pies in my time but I can honestly say - These are the BEST pies I have ever tasted. Sublime.
VERY good pies. Don’t be tempted by mince or steak, just get the pork belly and salmon pies! They are unique and much better. Pricing is a little bit steep for a pie, but then again, they are top notch pies. We drove to Fairlie from Lake Tekapo solely for these pies, and we were so glad we did.
Simply amazing ..One of the best pie I have had soo far.
Tried salmon and bacon and mince and cheese.
Long black and custard square👍
Woah! This is unbelievable. How could some one in the world can make such a awesome Pie in south island? Crowded due to its popularity. Must stop by place if you are visiting Lake Tekapo.🥧Fairlie=simply delicious.
Wow highly recommended place to stop and eat , pies are amazing
Great place, and clearly very popular with the locals, especially for their pies.
Fantastic g/f cream Lamington and I bought 2 g/f pork belly pies to takeaway. Hubby loved his pie and the coffee was great too.
Love the fresh range of pies, even vegetarian and vegan. Amazing customer service. If you traveling that way, a must stop for pies. We usually pick up pies and sit at the playground next to it. Kids also get to run around the playground.
They have the best pies in the Southern Hemisphere ... if not the world.
First time ever I’d write a review for pies...
It’s seriously delicious they sell out their pies quickly and keep updating their chalkboard every 5 or 10 mins!
Well worth the wait!
This unexpected bakery in the small rural township offers some of the best sweet and savory options to passerby traveling along the scenic Mackenzie Basin. A must stop for everyone to recharge yourself during a long journey.
Top recommendations: the handmade pie ( pork belly w apple sauce, and salmon bacon) is fueled with ingredients worth more than its value and the crusty pie crust. Mouthwatering....
Best pies in New Zealand.
Pastry is perfect, cheese is so creamy and delicious. Get a pork belly, bacon & salmon or vegetarian pie and you won’t be disappointed.
A must stop when visiting Fairlie!! The pastries are an excellent standard with great flavours. No lollycake which is a NZ bakery staple was disappointing and couldn't rave about the coffee. Otherwise I'd definitely stop again.
On a road trip was hanging out for pie had been told to stop here.I was not disappointed arrived late in day but they were still baking.
Got the pork and apple with pork crackling one bite and I was taken.Requested the salmon pie but they said still in oven 5 mins later it was there in front of me. Absolutely delicious well worth the stop.
Pies can be eaten on premises but if it was me take a few with you.which I did/couldn’t help myself.
Legend.
Their pies are known to be great. I like their almond croissant as well. My favourite place for almond croissant 👍👍👍🥐🥐
This place definitely sells one of the best pies in the whole of South Island! I did not know they sell cold ones for takeaways, so I ended up buying the baked ones and kept it for 2 days in the refrigerator. It still tasted as good as the venison I've had in the shop. I took away the pork belly and salmon, and I regretted not trying the butter chicken. All good though, as I'll definitely be back!
The pork belly had the crackle on the top and it was my soft spot. The apple sauce in it could be a hit and miss. My friends didn't think they go well together but I loved it. The salmon and bacon hit an absolute home run. Venison was good too but the salmon and bacon was better. I'd probably try all if I were you.
Yum!! Got a salmon and bacon, ultimate pepper steak and a donut the size of my face. All very tasty. The salmon was practically an entire filet and the pepper steak has giant chunks of tender beef. It was also deliciously peppery. I would recommend both.
The donut was soft and the cream was light and fluffy. The jam was probably the weakest part; treated like regular jarred jam. All in all everything was amazing and i would definitely recommend.
A must stop whenever your around Fairlie, Great Sumptuous Pies 🥧
If you’re ever in Fairlie you have to stop at the Fairlie Bakehouse and have one of their famous pies. They are the best, end of story.
Satisfy your sweet tooth with a delicious croughnut, you will thank me later.
The famous pies they serve here are absolutely delectable! I bought a mushroom and chicken pie to take away and I gobbled it up in less than 5 minutes 😅
Must stop here if you're passing by. Very busy, but worth the wait, and they serve customers efficiently.
The pastry is wonderful. The bacon and salmon pie is delicious. The lamb and mint pea with potatoes pie was good, but not the best I ever had. Seafood chowder was good and generous.
Hands down the best pie I've ever had! Large chunks of tender steak in a rich sauce. Big queues in peak holiday season but well worth the wait. #pieheaven
Love the pies from here! They offer vegetarian options too. Went there with some friends and tried the pork pie and the vegetarian pie, both tasted amazing. They also sell cakes and other pastries. The staff is really nice and there's a toilet inside. There are some tables outside and is close to free parking.
The bakery food here is great. As determined by the que most days just to get in the door. But always worth the time to stop.
Just did a south island road trip and stopped at Fairlie Bakehouse as recommended. Had a pork and apple pie which was great, full of meat with just the right amount of apple to keep it moist and good pastry, and a cronut - I am now addicted to cronuts and have not seen them anywhere on my travels in the north island.
Great pies! Friendly helpful service. Good range of other food and drinks also
When you pass through Fairlie, it is a fairly quiet town until you reach this bakery. It is the only crowded place in town.
I seldom eat pies because I don't really like the crust but this bakery was highly recommended to me. Therefore we went for it and was highly impressed. We had the venision pie and pork belly pie. The pork belly pie was so good! There is a pork skin on top of the pie which is a damn good combination.
The Fairlie Bakehouse pies live up to their reputation- I enjoyed the Salmon & Bacon and my husband, Pork & Applesauce with a morsal of crackling in the pastry lid. Delicious!
Amazing pies and pastries, however the coffee not so great, had better coffee at a gas station.
Have been looking forward to their pork belly pie for over a year now, and it totally lived up to the hype. Definitely one of the best pies I've had here in NZ!
If you are travelling between Tekapo and Christchurch, you've got to stop by Fairlie Bakehouse located is a small town Fairlie.
They serve pork belly pie with pork crackling above the crispy pie.
The ultimate steak pie is the best we had while in NZ. Thick tender pieces of beef inside tasty crispy fluffy pie.
The bacon egg and cheese bread is also so tasty. Soft bread with fragrant bacon and egg.

3 stars because my partner's pie was good - mine was bloody horrible, I could have bounced the beef all over the carpark. Children should not be running around like wild animals when we are supposed to be seated.
It was ok, crowded on a holiday weekend. Unfortunately it couldn't compare to the U-Bake pies and donuts etc in Timaru, which were way superior to these.
During our drive between Christchurch to Lake Tekapo we made a stop at the Fairlie Bakehouse nearly the State Highway 8 and 79 junction. This is great stop to make if you want to try local meat pies. Opening hours are 6am to 4.30pm daily.
You'll find the bakehouse along the main street in Failie just past the 4Square supermarket and Merino shop. There is a small car park, a couple of outdoor tables and plenty of indoor seating. Otherwise, you can order pies for take-away if preferred.
We wanted to try their venison pie but they were already sold out by the time we arrived early afternoon. As such, we took a Peppered Steak and a Pork Belly w/ apple sauce and crackling. Both were very good.
What we particularly liked about the pies here is that they were stuffed with meat and other ingredients, not mostly sauce like what you find with cheaper pies you will have encountered around NZ. The Peppered Steak was very flavourful and the Pork Belly, a creative take for meat pies.
We would go out of our way for the meat pies here in the future, these were amongst the very best we have had during our various trips to New Zealand over the years.
Great place you gotta stop here if you're heading past. The pastry on the pies is next level. We had steak and pepper and it was the perfect amount of pepper and big pieces of quality steak. Also had a cream/jelly donut which was amazing. Coffee was good too, mocha not too sweet. Line moved very quickly too.
Drop by for award winning pie. Tasted bacon+salmon pie, pork belly+apples sauce pie, choc cheese brownie and American donut. Very full fillings. Pork belly is just like Chinese siu yok, but good match with apple sauce.
I have to admit, one of the best pies I've ever had! The variety selection is just right. And the desert selection too. A must stop when passing through to and from Queenstown. Can be busy at times.
Price is good too. Coffee is great, location is just beautiful.
Bought the pork belly and creamed chicken pies. Had them fot tea. Very nice and we both enjoyed them with mashed potatoes, peas and beetroot.
Delicious pies and other baked goods!! Always have to stop here on the way through to Tekapo, Mount Cook, Queenstown etc. Especially love the pork belly pies!!
Love the salmon kumara pie. Very tasty! Flaky on outside and soft on inside. Hopefully one day they make smoke salmon or other seafood pie
Super tasty meat pies!! No vegetarian pies when we were there, but the meat was so tender and delicious. I recommend the pork belly and applesauce pie cause it has crispy pork scratchings on top!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Sorry but the pies were very disappointing. All the rave about Fairlie pies, but we found the pastry quite thick and overall the pies tasted greasy. The carrot cake however was very delicious!
Wanted to try these out since I was in Christchurch, and yes as the reviews state , the pies are fresh . Variety available. Lots of visitors to try out these pies. Always crowded but always place to be seated .. People to the area , should try it out ...
Delicious, great coffee and pies! Highly recommend the mince and cheese pie. Also loved the lemon yoyo’s!
Went to Farlie pie shop on Thursday 14th Oct. We always stop great pies and sweets. Took grandkids 4 pies but this time dissapointed as all pies were no where near hot, not even warm. Not great. Hope its better next time 😒
Really busy cafe! Unfortunately they ran out of the ultimate steak pie, so we got the steak and cheese and smoked chicken n mushroom pies instead which were both yummy. The pies are generously filled with large chunks of meat and the pastry is flaky and chewy. Fast and friendly service. Had the chocolate cheesecake brownie afterwards which was a bit of disappointment. Overall a great cafe! Should visit if you are driving by.
Very busy little shop during lunch hours worth the wait though. Amazing salmon pie and crispy pork pie. Expensive for a pie but super worth for its size and content. Newly renovated very nicely decorated, good vibe and lovely outdoor sitting area. Highly recommend.
We had the venison and cranberry; mince and cheese; pork belly and apple sauce and crackling. Most amazing pies for breakfast. The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is nice. Quite busy with the locals and even a line for the pies.
Uncle Barry and Aunt Linda took us here for a pie. In the words of Dave Niehaus… my oh my! Hen hao. Didn’t see Greg anywhere but that’s ok because the buns were good. We’ll be back!
If you are anywhere in the vicinity, head there. Just have the bacon & salmon pie and the pork belly pie. Fantastic they both are. You may have to q up but you won't have any regrets.
Sublime pies and a real hidden gem of South Island. Came for a pit stop during our exciting road trip and we were not disappointed. Filling is generous and the pastry was flaky complementing each other.
Amazing! The coffee is amazing, some of the best we have had on south island and their decaf was the best. On to the pies and other baked goods - some of the best pies this island! Their sweet treats were delicious too, but who are you kidding it doesnt matter what time of the day you’re there - get a pie..!!!
Great pies ... need I say any more.
Sitting at the table and chatting to other patrons you realise how far people travel just to add this as a stop in thier South Island trip to try the famouse the Fairlie Bakehouse pies.
Friends had bacon and salmon pie and it was a bomb! They do have some gluten-free foods but sadly not for pie.
Fairlie Bakehouse is a nice little cafe. They are mostly a pie bake house, I had the venison pie. It was delicious, the crust was flaky, and the flat white delicious. The have an outside eating area as well. They have a wide variety of meat pies, so if this is something you like, I would recommend this place.
Best pies IN THE WORLD if you're anywhere in the area you need to go here. And the donuts are awesome too
Had the pies and they were delicious. Coffees were great too. However I felt sick after eating the salmon and pork belly pie. Was the only thing I ate that day, I lost my appetite for the rest of the day.
Never failed to satisfy me always. We love their chicken, steak and salmon pies. Having travelled NZ for 21 days and tried a few other pies, I voted this as the best.
Not bad. But it's easy being "not bad" when everywhere else around you is low quality. Anyway, pies here are good ones. Recommend
Beautiful Pepper steak pie, blueberry muffin and custard filled donuts. This is a great bakery to take away or dine in.
wow, lots of gluten free choices here, everything made on site. absolutely delicious. A very busy cafe, which says alot.
we will definitely be coming back.
highly appreciate the love put into the food.
Best pies ever, we usually enjoy the salmon pie and pork pie with crackling, yum
The hype is real. The pies are truly divine. The ‘pork belly and apple sauce pie’ is the best pie I’ve ever had in NZ. Coffees are amazing as well.
Georgeous pies, great coffee, nice and humble staffs. Definitely a place to visit for one of the best pie and coffee in NZ.
The Pork Belly and Apple Pie was excellent. Coffee was great.
On our way to Tekapo and this was a recommended stop. Delicious vegetarian lasagna pie exceeded expectations! Thanks Fairlie!
A good place to go for an excellent range of food.
They had a good system in place to cope with all the covid regulations by asking at the door for a covid pass rather than once you were in there.
We got a Bacon& Salmon pie and an Apple slice, both of them are sooo goood. Would definitely recommend for those who are driving from lake Tekapo to Christchurch, it’s just on the way.
Delicious pork belly and apple sauce pie - one of the best pies I've ever had
A lot of peoples come here to buy the famous pie. No doubt, I'm the one to queue here and try the pie too =p. We ordered one bacon & salmon pie, another one is pork belly pie, thumb up👍
Very good pies. Lots of meat in the tasty pastry, too. Highly recommend.
Well known pie shop on the way to Lake Tekapo, most famous might be the salmon pie.
However, they didn’t have steak and cheese when I was there, and the mince cheese was average to me, never like the bacon & salmon coz it’s just not my taste of pie.!
I have them a 3 star duly based on the quality and variety, and I reckon it’s a bit over rated.!
Outstanding...lived up to expectation. Great coffee, outstanding pies and the cakes and pastries...wow! Worth the drive
Really good and tasty pies! Buttery pie crusts and flavourful fillings. Vegetarian options available too. Limited indoor seating and the place can get a bit crowded.
This place definitely knows what good pies should taste like! The pastry was so fluffy and the meat inside so tender - the whole thing melts in your mouth. Highly recommend this place!
Omg the pies were outstanding. Had the salmon and bacon and the pork belly pies.
Great pies - little more expensive but they are stuffed with meat and fillings so well worth it. Had the lamb and the pork.
Definitely stop here and try the pies!
They are one of the best I had in whole NZ!
You really get what you pay for 👌
We ate some there, and took two more for the next day with us.
Also the Cronuts are a dream 🤤
Don't miss this place on your journey!
Famous great pie shop! Salmon and Bacon pie was very nice. Pet friendly (only outside table)
Thoroughly satisfying and hearty pies, esp the pork belly and apple, salmon and bacon and venison and cranberry pies. Coffee was good too!
Good pie. Bit over hyped pies but nevertheless they were good. Tried the ultimate steak pie.
Make sure to grab a Venison pie if you drive pass Fairlie! Its probably the most expensive pie I have ever purchased ($8) but it was tasty.
Great pies. I had the pork belly and apple sauce pie. Heaps of room to sit. The staff are friendly and efficient.
Great pies. May pay to note, the ultimate steak pie is a mushroom and steak. Went to eat it and found it had mushrooms. This is not good when people have reactions to mushrooms and would have closed my airway if eaten. May pay to note on the pie or name these are steak and mushroom pie and not just a great steak pie.
My partner has raved about Fairlie pies for a long time and since in a former life she was a chef for an international four star hotel I rarely find her wrong. Had the opportunity to stop for a pie and coffee on the way back from CHC and fair to say the pie didn't disappoint. Coffee wasn't the best but more than acceptable. A constant stream of customers while we were there so definitely a popular spot.
The pies are divine. Had pulled pork & apple sauce, and a mince with cheese. They put the crackling on top of the pie b4 baking , so that is the BEST crackling ever and the filling was excessive!!! Mince/cheese wonderful combined taste and the pastry on both pies was crisp and wonderfully flakey!! This shop is worth a trip to Fairlie with no other reasons!!
Best food place in fairlie I recommend the custard squares and pies are amazing also seen some fancy salmon and bacon ones to 5 stars
Wow. Pork belly pie with pork crackling on top is the best!!! It was a first for me, and I don’t think any other pie can top that.
Great pie flavours, reasonable prices, good coffee, very busy, staff really positive and prompt.
Amazing pies. We were recommended it, definitely worth the stop 🥧
Was not a huge fan of pies, but this one is really good, even with microwave reheat. Best pies, if you are around, don't miss it. You will find the queue.
The pork belly pie was great. For the coffee, I would say it's the best one I've had in the past two weeks in NZ.
Wow....never had a blueberry muffin like it...full of fruit, light, not too sweet, crunchy top....absolutely magnificent. Not only best I have tasted in NZ....but in my travels in the world.
Love their salmon and bacon pie ! A must try. 😋
Beef mince pie was alright but not as good as salmon one!
Nice little town to stop for lunch on the road trip.
Excellent pies. Busy little bakery - obviously well liked. Nice little area outside to eat. Good value
Tried the creamy chicken pie. Thought it would be better considering the hype this place gets. Can't fault the pastry, but the filling was too chunky and dry. IMO, having smaller or shredded chicken and having some actual creamy sauce.. The coffee was great!
Best pie in nz full of meat and feels like homemade
Awesome food. Wish they'd provide compostable food boxes instead of the plastic ones. Or just dine in I guess 👌👌
Good pies, not as amazing as what some people say, or maybe they overhyped it for me - but very good and fairly priced unlike some places that are popular
We'd heard all about this place but we're still blown away. The most delicious fresh and tasty pies. And everyone was so helpful. We popped by in the morning to see if they did vegan pies. They had none warmed, but given we would be passing through later, said we should phone and they'd have one ready and waiting. So for any plant- based eaters, this is definitely a place to put on your list to visit. Just check the website, give them a call and you won't be disappointed!
Really good pies. Tried the vegan option which had lentils in it.
Coffee was good too.
Amazing pies and very friendly staff.
The pork and apple sauce pie was great.
Best pies in the South... Consistent every time I visit. Highly recommended
We took the long way south to make sure we could visit and the pies were even better than we remembered. The line was out the door when we arrived, but it moved fast and the pies were fresh and tasty with crispy, puffy pastry!
The taste is as delicious as ever. Although there are no foreign tourists, there are still many local guests. Steak and mushroom pie is recommended
We stopped at the bakery after a family member recommended the pork belly pie and we are very pleased we did! The coffee was beautiful and pork belly pie was a unique experience worth the stop. Will definitely visit again!
Great spot , pie under the trees.
Delicious pepper steak pie, best pepper pie I have ever had. Very delicious pastry. Doughnut was very fresh and delicious. Would eat here again.
Best pie I've had in my life, I had the pork and apple and my son had the salmon and bacon.
The reviews are all true. These pies are very tasty. Good selection of baked goods; pies and breads. Price is a little high compared to other pies, but it is worth it.
Great food and coffee,no question there.
A little bit of help would be helpful to identify food in cabinet, tags or writings on glass… just to make it easier and faster to choose.
And I know 6am is a bit early but a smile or even a “your welcome” would be good for customer service.
Superb service on 28th long queue but moved quickly and product was excellent. Congratulations a real credit to staff
Good pies! High quality! Very Yummy 😋
Hands down the best pies in NZ. Had the salmon and bacon. A must do if you want the perfect pie.
It was Farlie easy to spot. The Bakehouse is busy even at 9am. Order and delivery is almost instant. The pies are famous for a reason. Kudos to the pastry chef. We ordered the steak and cheese pie. The filling was good but tasted familiar. The pie crust was exceptional. So flaky, buttery and crunchy. A chocking hazard warning lol. But worth it. It made the whole pie taste like one of a kind. Must must try!! And it is very affordable too.
I had a peppersteak pie and it was AMAZING. The crust was flaky and buttery, the steak well seasoned and cooked, and the gravy super tasty! DEFINITELY best pie I've ever had in NZ
House made pies are the draw card. Roast pork belly & apple sauce (pictured, with cracking topping), steak & cheese, standard mince, etc. A range of small pastries and cakes, typical of a good country bakery on offer too. Coffee, tea and cold drinks (eg. juice, soft drink, etc) as well. Fresh baked bread is available too; soft rolls and loaves, etc.
Friendly staff and good service.
Best pies around. Classic mince and cheese was yum, and pork belly pie was delicious too. Also indulged in a few sweet treats that looked amazing: carrot cake was good, donut was good, friand was pretty good. Coffees were decent too - not the best but still good.
I believe, I have tried some of the best pies I've ever had at this bakery. We purchased almost every pie in the menu (except the vegetarians ones, because we are just big carnivores), and ALL of them are just simply extraordinary! We came back and ordered more the same day (when we were meant to drive to Queenstown!!
Although there was quite a long line, we were pleasantly served and apologies for the wait, when they didn't have to.
This is a place not to be missed on your road trip! I cannot stress and recommend this place more wholeheartedly.
Best pies ever. Despite the long line there wasn't too much of a wait.
It was a extremely windy day so inside was the better place to sit, I had a Ultimate pie which was wonderful and my kids had mince and cheese and my daughter said it was the best pie she ever had. My pie was just the right balance of all flavors, will definitely be back
Best pies in new zealand hands down. unfortunately there was a issue with the eftpos as i was charged twice for the same pie, however these are still the best pies and i will be back whenever i possibly can!
Amazing pies, so tasty recommend to anyone
Stopped in on way through on our honeymoon and so glad we did, these guys know what they're doing. The pie was absolutely outstanding and the eclair was the best eclair dough I have had in my life! Well done team!
A stop every time (twice this past road trip), the food is always SO delicious whether it be the choice of pies or the amazing desserts. Fast friendly service!
Best Pies in the Universe ! ( well almost). Had a venison, took away a steak & cheese for the next day ! Also the DONUTS are unbelievably HUGE !
I needed a knife & fork to cut it up to manage eating it without being a piglet !
Best pies and other stuff worth the price. Quick service despite usual queue.
Good coffee and ideal stop for those travelling from Christchurch to Queenstown
The best pies in the South Island and good coffee to go too! Always worth the stop when on your journey.
Hands down the best pies in New Zealand! Such perfect pastry and generous high quality fillings. It’s an essential stop for all road trips going into the Mackenzie District.
Delicious food...had sandwich and jam doughnut. Well worth stopping for
Just delish! Had the salmon and bacon pie on recommendation and highly recommend it! My pooch wanted a sausage roll but unfortunately they were sol out so I gifted her some of my pie crust. She loved it too! Will always stop here.
The best pies in New Zealand, try the pork belly 😋
Heard a lot about but the creamy chicken pie I had was pretty ordinary.
The best pie in New Zealand! Steak and salmom are my favorite.
Very popular with the people in Fairlie. Pies smell really good. We bought 4 in total - creamy chicken, venison cranberry, ultimate steak pepper creamy mushroom, and bacon and salmon. Awesome!
Great variety of food. Our favourites are : salmon and bacon pie, chicken and mushroom pie + the apple slices. ALL are packed full, so value for money !!!! Staff are polite and smiling accommodating requests. Don't pass by STOP and enjoy 😃👌👍
Tried butter chicken pie, it was no where close to butter chicken. Chicken seemed under cooked with no flavor. It had carrots in aswell. In short it was a creamy chicken pie with a yellow color from turmeric basically. And if pies had labeling and price it would've been much easier to order
Can get packed in the afternoon with tourists, at which time the staff gets a little impatient. Espresso drinks are great (excellent foam / art), super clean bathrooms, and nice shaded outdoor seating areas. Great place for a pit stop.
Great pies, worth the hype. The pork belly apple pie even has crackling on top. Prices vary from $5-$8.
Scrumptious pies especially pork with crackling.
Awesome pies, a must try when you are there
The pies here are amazing! 10/10 would recommend.
So good! Well worth standing in a long line for a fabulous pie. I had salmon and bacon. Gorgeous! I recommend this place and would go back!
Butter chicken is my favourite! You can also buy their pie at four square and some cafeteria.
Oh so bloody good! All their food is exceptional and the staff are super lovely
Very busy. Lucky wait wasn't too long. The popular salmon and bacon was sold out.
1.30pm. Good Friday. Busy Busy Busy queue out the door. They handled it really well. Lots of pies in the cabinet. Lots of staff on. Very efficient and friendly. Good coffee. Great pies, donuts, cronuts, custard squares and more.
We heard about this place from a local who said it sold the best pies ever.
Even though they were right we were naive enough to think that this place was a locals secret. One look at the queue soon told us this was 'the' place to buy pies.
We found the queue to move relatively quickly with 5 people behind the counter serving salivating customers. There would have been about 50 peeps in line with us!
The consumers of the Pork and Apple pies raved about the delicious pastry and how much meat was in the pies. The consumer of the vegetarian pie thought theirs was one of the best they had tasted too.
Nice pie. Bit over rated . I had lamb pie needed salt...
Bought 6 cold pies, pork belly etc am looking forward to eating them. Had a chai latte which wasn't so good, felt like I was drinking tea leaves and the custard square was as hard as a rock. Hope the pies are worth it
Best pies around the South Island. And cakes!
Wow. Pies are so yummy. And everyone knows it. Hence the line. Yum
Only the best pies ever!! Alright the donuts are amazing too. Soo have to stop by if you're passing through this gawjus wee town.
AMAZING PIES!!!! Phenomenal place. Big ques but fast and efficient service. 10/10
Lovely, want the pies ? Impress the in laws won't go wrong
Fast service, quality food and selection. The GF salmon frittata 👍🏼.
If you've never heard of Fairlie Bakehouse Pies then you're in for a treat! Truly fantastic.
Great selection of baked goodies. Especially tasty pies. Can have a bit of a wait in line at times, but I guess that's a good sign!
Loved the salmon and bacon pie! A really nice bakery with plenty of interesting options. They seem to be able to happily cope with the hordes of customers that show up on a Sunday lunchtime.
Tastey pies,I always stop for one when passing through.
A good, proper pie, the way it should be.
Excellent pies and donuts. Well worth stopping for
Fantastic pies and fast well organized service.
Gr8 coffee. Will try their famous pies next visit
Excellent pie’s. And food in general.
I've eaten a heap of pies, but never one like this from a bakery! Pork belly and apple sauce, with crackling on the pie lid! 👌🏽
Mean as.
Delicious pies and very good coffee staff very friendly.
They were very busy when we went at lunchtime on a long weekend. The staff were very pleasant and kept the queue moving as it was right out onto the street. The food and hot drinks were both hot and yummy as always.
Not the best pies I have ever tried
The hype is real. I *always* get a mince and cheese pie everywhere I go but was in an exceptionally adventurous mood and opted for a Salmon and Bacon pie and holy smokes was my mind blown!!! If you’ve never stepped outside your pie flavour comfort zone, this is a great bakery to try something new!
We had salmon pie and pork belly pie today. Quite surprised that they put chunk of salmon inside and they tasted awesoooooome
Worthy to eat!
As everyone says, good high quality food and pies.
Venison and cranberry PHENOMENAL
Steak pepper mushroom cheese AMAZING
Saturday morning and Fairlie Bakery like an ants' nest with people coming and going in their droves. However, what had been promised as the very best pies and pastries weren't. Good value - good -but far from great.
Yummy pies! Ate pork and apple pies, a cronut and coffee. All very good. Should say, delicious! Coffee is really delicious. Fantastic, friendly, fast service! On way back home a few days later we picked up Salmon n bacon pies and another cronut lol. Will always visit! The pastry is amazing and I'd fully recommend you visit for a pie if going through Fairlie!
The best place in the world to eat Salmon pie.
Loved it, the Pork & apple sauce pie was awesome!
THE best pies, really lovely staff.
Good pies. Just wish there was soap in the toilet during a pandemic.
Wow! I think they had the best pie I have had in New Zealand! It was incredible, crispy, rich pastry crust and there was so much salmon inside. They were very friendly and the place was clean and very tidy. I would recommend stopping in for a pie or other bakery item.
Always good quality, a must stop for the pies when heading south!
As always this is an awesome place, great team and amazing pies, hot chocolate etc...
Had the ginger caramel apple muffin. It was delicious! I can see why it was so busy!
My wife tells me that her donut was the best donut she's ever had in New Zealand. So there you go.
My flat white was created with care and skill, so I'm happy.
Awesome pie, went back and go t another one
Best pies ever. First bite into my steak and cheese pie and it was full of flavor. Also they do the cronuts of which is a doughnut crossed with a croissant. Delicious. If you drive pass Fairlie I highly recommend that you stop by at Fairlie and grab yourself a pie and a Cronut.
Was a cheeky wee number. Quite enjoyed the lamb pie, was bit perplexed when I got to the mashed potato but it complimented the peas and lamb very well.
The cronut wasn't half bad either. Will definitely be back for more.
They have a reputation for fantastic pies Back in the day when I ate meat I loved them. Now if you dont eat meat very limited options. If they did a veg pie or a sate veg pie or a fish pie they would goto 5 stars. It is the way now more and more people choosing not to eat meat. If 5% of the options were meat free it is expected to be a winner for them.
Stopped here because I was recommended it and it did not disappoint. I had 2 pies the pork belly with crackling and the salmon with bacon. Both pies was delicious, I highly recommend them. I also had the carrot cake, which is one of the best I have ever tasted. My friend had the creme doughnut, which I also had a couple of bites from and that was also very tasty. I would definitely recommend and if I’m in the area again I would definitely go back there.
Pork belly and apple sauce pie was awesome. They surprisingly did a vegan pie as well for my daughter which was apparently very good too
Good pies. Can get busy but worth the wait
Recommend the soup and steak pie here. Lots of different pies and great staff, very friendly.
If your going through fairlie you've gotta try it, I had the pork belly pie. It was so good! I shouldve gotten 2 or maybe even 3 🤗
Amazing pies. They should be well known and win awards for their pies!
Fairlie good pies here for sure stop in for a bite
Pies here are expensive.
But well worth it.
I got the venison pie which had big chunks of meat in and the pork belly pie was also delicious
Customer service was good and the staff very accomodating.
Would definitely come back here if pasing through again.
Definitely worth the hype. We had the Salmon with bacon and the pork belly pies. Both were really good, especially the salmon. Couldn’t resist and ended up reordering. Thumbs up from us 👍
Excellent service. Nice coffee and pie
Worth to have a stop
Pork belly pie is great, and these cronuts
A must visit for anyone . We try to stop in there on our way to Queenstown and it has never disappointed. The pastry on their pies is light and buttery and the fillings are very generous plus a large variety of flavors. If your a sweet tooth or a cream bun person they have that covered too. Outside or inside seating. A rare bakery as even the coffee is delish
Bit of an iconic stop off. Loved my salmon and bacon pie.
Pies are really good and I tried a chicken cranberry camembert pizza, that was way beyond my expectations, really delicious! (bad picture, looked way better than that!)
Tried the Salmon and Bacon pie - WOW it was very good. Finished off with a nice sticky hot cross bun and good strong coffee. Excellent late lunch.
Always great pies and that brownie was amazing! Should have taken home some more for later 😁
Definitely gone down hill in my opinion the creamy chicken was bland as. Sold out of s rolls and steak and cheese before 10am. Kids liked mince and cheese but nothing to rave about. Wont bother returning.
Lovely food and great pies
A great spot to start with a delicious breakfast. All stuff is homemade and very tasty. Try out the pies and the cake of the day.
Never fails to impress. My favorite is the bacon and salmon.
Best food, fab coffee & hot chocolate. A must to call in can't pass by.
There was a line out the door which is a great sign for regional New Zealand on a Sunday afternoon. The orders were super efficient and we were sitting with our pies and cronut within minutes. Bloody good. Can't fault it.
Really good pies. Tasty pastry and good fillings
Stunning pies great coffee fantastic service totally recommend this shop
We came to the bakehouse for pies and coffee. We had the mince pie and vegetarian pie. The pastry was delicious and flakey, although the filling was a bit average. The coffee bean is quite acidic, but fine for flat white. The ques may look long but moved relatively quick.
Best pie ever, the Bacon & salmon pie is my favorite! Don’t miss it when you are passing by.
Over priced and an ordinary pie. No pepper steak pies. Disappointing.
Great pies friendly staff 😊😊
Even though this is a famous piery I chose something else a chicken and cranberry mini frittata yum and a custard eclair double yum.my friends had pies yum and a cream and jam filled doughnut double yum as well. Ate out in a sun filled garden and watched the long queue.
Good country fare, service was quick. Ques out the doorshows how popular it is.
My husband gave his pie 5 stars
He had peppered steak
I would give 3 stars pastry nice fresh but filling just like a mince and cheese pie. I had beef beer and cheese. I would rather thai chicken pie
Beautiful fresh tasty pies! And cream donuts!
Great pies in nz indeed
My husbands pork and apple pie was delicious, coffees good, apple shortcake pie yummy, my gluten free pie pastry not so nice, filling delicious, friand nice and really good selection of other gluten free pies- thank you
I had the ultimate steak pie, really nice flavour but the pastry was quite dry.
Fantastic pies from here and the selection is awesome...
Foe those who don't know this place , the pies are incredible, unless you like sunny days pies then this place isn't for you . They use real meat and have managed to create 'the red band' of pies . Coffee and sweets are very good too .
Lovely pies. Dont be put off by price.
Heaven!
Pork belly and crunchy homemade pies! To top it off chocolate lamingtons and a nice coffee.
Some of the South Islands best pies with fillings like pork belly, salmon and bacon as well as the classics like mince and cheese. The queue outside is a good indication how good it is.
Best pies! I tried the creamy chicken pie one day and went back the next day for the venison & cranberry pie. Both devine!
Great pies for many a year...popular
Not a fan of pies myself but our host in Fairlie recommended to try them and we were not disappointed. Got salmon and bacon ones and they were juicy, with a lot of filling and nice dough. We were very hungry so got two for each person and left sooo full!
I had a wonderful pork belly and apple pie. That is pork crackle on top. I ate slowly. I didn't want it to end.
Some of the most scrumptious savory pies I’ve had in NZ!
Salmon and bacon pie...devine!
Never heard of it before but well worth a visit 😀
One of the best pies i've had, the salmon and bacon, well worth trying definitely worth the stop.
Although $7 is a lot to spend on a pie. Definitely worth it. Cronuts are another must. Great selection of sweet treats and pies. Good coffee
A very delicious Steak and Cheese Pie
The food was great but the service was even better. They are SO organised. One person takes your order, takes payment, makes your coffee and the food arrives in the right order. I was so impressed.
No waiting hours for coffee or getting the coffee and no sight of the food. Fantastic organisation.
The food speaks for itself!
Hands down the best pies I have ever had. Pork belly is amazing, salmon, chicken, beef. Great location with parking off the main road. Easy accessible for wheelchair or pram. They are children friendly also. Unsure about high chairs as my girls are both just big enough to use normal chairs. Don't just drive through Fairlie without stopping here. Artwork on the walls is local and stunning also.
Excellent pies, great choice, other lovely food available, even though very busy with queues out of the door, plenty of friendly staff serving quickly, eat in or takeaway, toilet facilities very clean.
Excellent Food!!! Especially the Salmon Pies
We stopped by whilst passing thru town.
We enjoyed the Pork Belly & Apple Sauce Pie plus the Salmon and Bacon.
Greta choice and would stop again if passing....
Long queue for orders. Tasty food and great staff.
Best pie I have ever had!
The line for this place was out the door, the smell was very enticing. However, the service leaves a lot to be desired. The pies no doubt are delicious, however they were out of the steak with mushrooms and the vegetarian pie by 2 pm. A little disappointing considering we made a special stop for these famous pies.
The best pie I have ever eaten!! 😊 The pastry was amazing and the fillings absolutely A1 quality. I devoured a salmon and bacon pie. Salmon filled all the way through. My travelling partners enjoyed a pork belly and apple sauce pie which I had a small taste of which was just as amazing! Do not drive through this town and not stop for a pie!!
Really good veggie pie and coffee
Definitely a good place to stop and grab a bite! Delicious pies. Can get very busy so expect a wait! Table availability is poor, but this isn't much of an issue as most their food is designed to be taken and eaten by hand.
Awesome as always! Pork belly pie is the bomb!!!
Pork belly pies soooo great
Outstanding food, service and staff
10/10 everything.
Had a nice cuppa cappuccino here and its pairs perfectly with the pies!
If you've never been here you must go. Their pies are famous in New Zealand and for good reason. I especially recommend the pork belly and apple sauce, its the prefect blend of salty and sweet and I have never seen that kind of pie anywhere else so its one of a kind!
Best bakery love their vege pie
Was told by a friend that the Fairlie Bakehouse does good pies & they did not disappoint! Had the pork belly & apple, with a big square of crackling on the top 🤩 one of the best pies I have ever had and will definitely be back!!
The best pies in the south right? Would recommend for a stop in to grab a pie ! Delicious and the staff are super friendly
Best pies around!!! I particularly love the pork pie, with big chunks of pork and Apple sauce, with a piece of crackling on top of the pie. Yum!!
Amazing! Everything from here is soooooo delicious! We're working our way through the pie menu. It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it!
Service was good. The women even offered to fill my water bottle
The best pie I've ever had, always had one of the pies when passing Fairlie. Salmon pie is the most popular one, chicken & mushroom is delicious as well (not always have). My partner is a fan of their donuts. She loves the light and fluffy cream in the donuts. It's just awesome.
100% best pies ive ever had gunna be hard to beat these the pastry is perfect great variety of fillings and there pork belly pie has a generous serve of crackling to top it off absolutely worth the visit to Fairlie. 🤗
Yum pies! I ate the pork belly and the steak and cheese. Excellent!
Best pies EVER. Not a place to miss if you're going through Fairlie.
The pies are good with a wide range of options available each day however I wouldn't say they are the best pie I've ever had. The mince and cheese is yummy but the pork belly pie is very dry and lacks enough apple sauce.
The best pies. So good
I'm vegetarian and for the first time I had a pie that I'm looking forward to having it again (and again). The pastry was perfect and the filling delicious. They really live up to their reputation.
Went there on recommendation
I had a steak pie which was tasteless and tough. Worst pie i have has in sometime. Only eat 2 mouthfuls gave rest to dog
Went 3 doors down to NZ pies and had a steak and mushroom pie. It was lovely tasty and meat tenee and less expensive
Best pies! We love the peppersteak and smoked chicken/mushroom pies. The Cronut is also a must try - yum!
Best pie I’ve tried in NZ, and there have been many. Amazing pastry and filled right up! Would love to see them do some more flavours.
It was a hot afternoon recently when we were travelling through to Tekapo to stay. There was only one vegetarian option when we arrived (a vegetarian pie) and no sandwiches or any other vegetarian options so, I was told by the young girl behind the counter. I find this fustrating that it seemed to be too hard that a cheese and onion sandwich was not even offered as it would not have been too difficult to make. I'm not a huge pie fan but my partner is and it appeared the girl did not even know what was in the vegetarian pie!
Served by a young lad who’s customer service was lovely, tried the mince/cheese pie & the American donut — absolutely to die for, will definitely be back!!
Compulsory stop here.
My favourite is Bacon and Salmon pie
The best vegetable pie I've ever had! The Cronut (croissant-doughnut) is amazing! Worth the stop every time.
Exceptional pies and great service. 2x in 2 days ... must be good. We had the salmon and bacon pie (so much salmon!), the Ultimate pie (tender steak and plenty of it), creamy chicken and chicken, cranberry and mushroom . Excellent coffee too.
Very nice pies and lovely staff
Amazing pies, as always. Have been coming here for years now every time I do a trip up or down. We turned up just at closing time, but they kindly still let us have a pie.
Some tourists that turned up a bit later weren't so luckily, which made our Salmon and Bacon pies even more delicious, as we lauded our pies over the have nots.
A glorious day overall, highly recommended.
Has a very good vegetarian pie. You'll have to wait in a que for about 5 minutes, as these pies are tasty and polular. It's well worth going out of your way for these pies.
Beautiful pastry good selection of meat and vegetarian pies. Always stop here if passing by
Nice pie. Good environment too. Might get crowded and a bit noisy if it is packed.
Some of the best pies I have ever had! Both the Pork and Salmon pies are worth a stop and visit. Some very good Gluten Free options are also available and the coffee is great. The best pit stop from Twizel to Christchurch.
Pork belly pie with apple sauce was beautiful. Lovely coffee too!
Unbelievable pies. Pass this place at your peril. Their Ultimate pie is something to savour indeed ....Flavour to delight the fussiest of pie eaters...
Fairlie bakehouse takes pride in pie! And for good reason. We tried three kinds: steak and cheese, chicken and mushroom and mince and cheese. I’d skip the chicken and mushroom and double up in the mince - it was definitely our favourite. But id love to see a curry chicken on the menu, or a shepherds pie, pie!
Great pier in NZ. GOOD BREAKFAST BEFORE GOING TO LAKE TEKAPO.
You have to stop here for one of the best Kiwi traditions. A pie. Great range and so good. Yum😀
Had the pork pie and a cronut. So flavorful. 🤗
Best pies in the world!
Mean foodz,Filln az.x😊
Yes it was worth the wait people were lined up out the door. I had a salmon&bacon pie and my wife had pork belly&apple sauce yummy best pies in NZ. We will be back!
One of the best pie shops in New Zealand! The pork belly and apple pie is by far my favourite and goes down a real treat. A bit expensive but worth it. The custard squares are also really nice. They make a great brew if you’re in need of a coffee and overall an excellent shop. Highly recommend.
Thank you Andy for making the yummiest chocolate cake for my son's 8th birthday. It was a last minute one and you made his day.Looking forward to order more cakes when passing through from Mt Cook to Timaru/Christchurch👏❤👍👍👍👍👍its a 5 from us🥰
Bacon and salmon pie is delicious! I'm not usually a big fan of pies but this one is the best I ever tried in NZ!
The dough and the filling are really fresh and yummy and the staff is really kind :)
Everyone talks about their pies and yup they are great - but what about the custard filled cronuts?!? OMG they are DELICIOUS!!! I am glad I was only passing through bc they would be impossible to resist if they were sold in my hometown haha
Try one seriously YUM!
Great pies, great staff 😊.
Got a pork belly with apple sauce and crackling pie fresh from the oven. And a salmon pie. Both beautiful. Bit pricy as of December 2019 but worth to try if you are getting fresh from the bakery!
If you hit them at the right time, queue looks pretty bad but it goes really quick so you won't spend too much time standing.
Always a great stop for Southern drive. Tasty pies and no queues mid afternoon..
Fantastic range of gourmet pies, including some unusual flavours like Smoked salmon and Pork belly with crackling. Sandwiches muffins and cakes are also on offer and all very nice. As is the coffee.
There is indoor and outdoor seating.
And the ladies running the place are friendly, lovely and do a great job even when the place is very busy.
As expected, their pies were really delicious. We bought their chicken, fish, pork and beef pies and the meat fillings are very generous! A pity that no photos were taken but it is worth trying their pies!
Line was out the door, but the food was worth the wait. The line moved quite fast but they got a bit confused with us ordering together as there was only one till open and two people trying to serve us.
Pies are amazing and cronut was delicious. Hubby had a coffee and said it was great. Definitely worth stopping for if you are passing through.
The pork and apple with crackling absolutely delicious! So delicious returned the next day for another one. Oh my what a pie 👍 premium price, but premium pie!
Great pies. Good coffee. Some gluten free options.
Salmon and bacon pie? Genius
Very tasty vegan and vegetarian pie recommend to everyone come stay night in fairlie town and eat fairlie bakehouse pie.good customer service, coffee was very nice
Lamb mint peas & potato pie was awesome.
I haven't been to the Fairlie Bakehouse but buy their pies in Christchurch. Best pies I've ever eaten!!
Visited here on the way through to Tekapo. Service was great was a long queue but service was quick so didn't take long to get to the counter. Unfortunately my pie didn't taste great but that was just the mince one. My wife had the pulled pork one which was great apparently.
Delicious. We tried a handful of pies during our visit to New Zealand. Fairlie was the best pie places on our list. We stopped in twice actually because how good they were. Fairlie in general a small town, but if your passing through this town stop at the bake house for sure!
Ohhh is a tough one, but I'm going to have to say the Sheffield Pie shop has it by a nose 🐽👃 The pies from both are great but as good as the Fairlie pies are, and a deserved 4 stars they are not quite as good as Sheffield
The cordonbleu pies is awesome. The pepper steak have huge chunks of steak but they can improve the taste. Nice big pies and friendly staff
The food here is consistently good quality and like homemade food. Definitely recommend to try. Slices and muffins are excellent. Even their dog biscuits are edible! It has a plenty of outdoor space to view the peaceful town of Fairlie.
Best 🥧 ever .
very popular cafe. we always stop there and have pie there on the way to Tekapo. Next time I am going to have a salmon pie.
Pork belly and apple is the bomb. Not to be missed
Not to be missed when passing through or staying in the town
So good that I went there 2 days in a row.
Be sure to stop by and try their pies. They have the classics and a few special flavours of their own that take pies to the next level.
Although $7 is a lot to spend on a pie. Definitely worth it. Cronuts are another must. Great selection of sweet treats and pies. Good coffee
Definitely gone down hill in my opinion the creamy chicken was bland as. Sold out of s rolls and steak and cheese before 10am. Kids liked mince and cheese but nothing to rave about. Wont bother returning.
Great pies
Beautiful fresh tasty pies! And cream donuts!
Very good as usual. This time the butter chicken pie was a bit dry, but the other pies we had were delicious!!
Very very busy but worth the wait
We were told they have great pies, and they do. We bought pies to takeaway all boxed up. Great service, well done.
Best in New Zealand full stop the pastry is perfect and a nice amount of space in and outdoors. Exelent speed from the workings who managed to serve 3 people at once.
Good pie and coffee. Surprised to find a place like this in Fairlie. Will be coming back later when going past again.
I am a big fan of Fairlie Bakehouse pies, they use good quality meat (chunks of meet rather than mince) and ingredients which makes Fairlie pies especial I reckon. I love their pies so much that I can't drive past this place every time I travel down south for work. My favorite is salmon and beacon (strange combination, right?), creamy chicken and lamb.
Delicious!! Lived up to the hype!!
The pies are always good and there is always a queue 😀
We heard person after person tell us these are the best pies on the South Island. We were not disappointed. The vegetarian pie was tasty, hot and service was great!
Always fresh great pies.
Great pies. Hope to be back. Only reason now 5 star was hashbrown cut my mouth as so dry. But otherwise awesome.
Wonderful bakery with a lovely selection of very delicious homemade pies and other baked goods. Inside and outside seating. Lovely setting and comfortable surroundings. Is a very busy place as there are people queuing almost constantly.
Incredible pies. The pastry is the best I've ever had! A great pit spot. The frappes weren't that great though, just ice and syrup.
Pie was great
Good food. However too busy to relax while you drink your coffee. Toilets were pretty awful
Salmon pie & creamy chicken pie
Salmon pie 💯!!! Best pies in South Island !
I don't normally eat many pies but your salmon and bacon pie was awesome. Will call next time we are up that way.
Eat the pork belly with apple sauce pie, it's so good! Also the cakes are incredible!
Vege pie was really nice. So were cream puffs and lemon muffins. To wash it down, we got a large cup of latte, which was equally nice too. Five stars for this place.
Brilliant
The pulled pork pies were gorgeous. And I loved the American donut.
Thank you
Nice selection of savouries and sweets from the cabinet
Incredible pies and cronuts (salmon and bacon was to die for). Why pies have not become a thing in the States is beyond me. I could eat these pies every day, so delicious!!
We travel from christchurch just to get there pies that's how good they are. Amazing custard squares too. Over all amazing food and a beautiful place to sit and eat.
One of the best pie 🥧 I had
The pies are so great an the people working at the shop great real good. Service we brought a box of pies home with us
The absolutely best pies in NZ
Nothing beats a Fairlie Bakehouse pie - my personal suggestion would be the salmon and bacon pie - however it can be difficult to navigate the busy bakery in a wheelchair through the tight tables.
Yummy food. Great coffee
Best pies, and the rest is good too
As I think with what most feedback should be...if you love a good pie, this is a must to stop at for lunch. Big lines out the door at times but it doesn't take long to get to the front.
I had a steak and cheese pie..just one though.
Also must add now, the BP station also has these pies in the warmer...and no massive ques.
Great pies, I was worried when I saw the long queue that I would be waiting for ages but they worked through the crowd fairly quickly. So don't be disheartened by the long queue.
The pies are big and well worth the price you pay. Would stop there again on my travels.
The best pies. Period
Omg the pies were amazing. We had a cream of chicken and a cornbeef and mustard flavoured pies. They were fantastic. They were really busy but we still got served quick. We finished off with a raspberry cheesecake which was delicious.
The best pies!!! Must go, i judge a bakery on their mince pie because it is a Kiwi classic, and their mince pie was one of the best I have had.
Great pies and the jam doughnuts are good too.
Had a Pork Belly & Apple sauce pie (full of meat and flavour), along with a savoury scone. Highly recommended and the staff provide fantastic smiley service.
Don't drive past.
very popular cafe. we always stop there and have pie there on the way to Tekapo. Next time I am going to have a salmon pie.
Great coffee, told the pies were great they certainly looked great (as did all the food), but just too early for us to eat.
Nice people too!
Great PIE shop. Love their pork belly pie and their salmon and bacon is devine. Great coffee and staff finish it off
