Reviews of The Wrinkly Rams
P.
Had an amazing breakfast with the Mr here, was brought out fast as, nice and warm even had a warm plate. Service was great clearing our plates for us. Absolutely love the set up inside all the memorabilia and decor also enjoyed looking in the huge gift shop after. Lovely products there too.
M.
Nice big rustic cafe to stop by & refuel, it has a lot of seating indoors & outdoors.
You can order hot food (eg: pies & chips etc) & sandwiches/rolls or order something more substantial. Nice coffee that comes out super quick.
T.
Plenty of tables, nice food. Good service from staff.
J.
Recently I had a birthday lunch at this cafe. I had made a reservation assuming that just a table would be reserved. However, when we arrived, staff had allocated a room away from the main restaurant for us, allowed friends to decorate the room, and took orders at the table for both drinks and food. The food was superb, the service excellent and I would definitely say that they made my birthday exceptional. Thank you all so very much.
N.
Great place to stop on a long road trip. My chicken pie and cheese scone were both amazing. The house baked Afghan cookies and coffees were very nice as well!
N.
So lovely. Great friendly service. Yummy food. Always get a spot by the big open fire or outside in spring. Love it😃
R.
Superb food, don’t order the burgers unless you haven’t eaten for a few days, they are huge. As are the lamb shanks. All very tasty. Great atmosphere, helpful staff, and a large retail gift shop.
m.
Love this place! Great food (recommend the club sandwich) and coffee. Friendly staff. Spacious with lots of inside and outside tables. Always beautiful vases of flowers 💐
H.
Dropped by for lunch on the way to Central Otago. Had the salmon salad and the thai beef salad - both excellent and plentiful. Menu extensive, cabinet food selection huge. Wine/beer also available. Top notch staff and service. Don't miss this place.
R.
Always stop here on my way to Queenstown. First time I had the chicken pie, probably wouldn't have that again. Cubes of chicken in a thin Kumara sauce. Pastry was so so.
Gift shop was great value. Good service.
J.
Food was great. Could have shared my burger and chips.
C.
A busy spot with very quick good service. Excellent coffee and loved the mini wine glass the cream came in.
G.
Great burgers fast freindly service
S.
We visited here twice during our trip. First time, we just paid a visit to the gift shop and bought some great merino stuffs and souvenirs. My wife and I both agreed that it's a great place to stop by for a bite and cup of coffee the day we headed for Fox Glacier. Either chicken or steak pies are fresh and tasty, and the long black is hot and strong, thus keep my spirits up for the whole drive to West Coast. The date scone and savory scone are quite delicious as well. It's worth a stop to have some souvenirs here and enjoy a leisure meal before continuing on your trip.
L.
Best milkshakes. Food fresh and plenty to choose from in the cabinets plus the menu options. Parking good for busses campervans cars with trailers and just normal family cars. Toilets clean
L.
Great cafe and gift shop!
We really enjoyed our coffee and cakes, caramel crunch and a chocolate one. More substantial menu with lots of good looking things if you bring a bigger appetite.
Friendly service, plenty of indoor + outdoor seating, wifi, clean facilities, nice trinkets in the shop and lovely fresh flowers everywhere! Oh and some real wrinkly rams for your viewing pleasure 🐏 💕
One of our favorite road trip pit stops. 👍👍
B.
Today on a drizzly day, the venue had an open fire going and spacious seating area in these COVID times.
The cheese scones were the best!
R.
Very cozy place for a warm and cozy rest. The food's very good and prices are good.
L.
Amazing food, service and so fast! Dad loved the pies, the slices were fantastic, loved the presentation and would recommend to anyone!! Such a beautiful place! Thanks guys!!
M.
They care about coffee here, expect a lot of ppl on asunny day
G.
Have been here numerous times. Lovely setting with very friendly staff.
Met friends therr for lunch last Tuesday 7 December. I Ordered the Chicken Satay from the specials board. Good size serving. Flavour wise was very diasappointing. No satay flavour at all and needed alot more punch to it.
Hopefully can be rectified before out next visit.
O.
Lovely location, very nice building, a little pricey but that is probably because of delivery costs. A nice pitstop for a cuppa
R.
Lovely warm cafe with great homemade food. The best in Omarama (not that there’s a whole lot to choose from). Eclectic atmosphere, friendly service, and our homemade soups were fantastic. Awesome clothing shop too, full of quality merino goods. Definitely worth the stop.
D.
What a great place with amazing food and coffee even with a kiddy corner and so good to see peoples friendly faces highly recommended
p.
We popped in here for a late lunch after doing the Clay Cliffs. We ordered a seafood chowder and a lamb shank. The seafood shower was flavoursome but had lots of carrots and not so much seafood. The lamb shank was lovely with the meat falling off the bones easily. During our time here, there were lots of patrons coming and going, so obviously a popular stop for travellers and locals.
T.
The tour guide stopped at this place and recommended the chicken pie. Not the healthiest of choices, but certainly a tasty pie. Good fast-ish food, good prices and friendly staff.
b.
Coffee was great, very nice selection of hot and cold food of both the savoury and sweet type. Ample seating with a nice outdoor area for those summer days.
M.
Big open outdoor tables & spacious inside with lots of tables Attached to a tourist attraction. Coffee was bitter & mediocre, but a good selection of savoury food, homemade slices & carrot or fruit cake. I was surprised the cake & slices prices were more expensive than my usual Wellington cafes.
J.
Great selection of food. Little expensive but nice open atmosphere. Excellent friendly service...
Y.
Really nice place with super friendly staff! Huge dishes all delicious. Another must on the road between Mt Cook and Omarama. ( Plus: some beautiful baby sheeps that you can pet on your way out :) )
v.
We went here famished after a hot tub bath. Ordered pasta and chicken satay rice. Food was super tasty!! We were thankful we had an apetite! Staff is very polite!
C.
What a great find on main road, this is a rustic cafe and bar which is very warm and inviting by the staff whom are very welcoming and courteous.
Ambiance is cosy and relaxing with country music playing in background.
Local artwork adorns the walls with a gift shop to the side.
Cabinet is stacked with variety but some items are a bit pricey.
Their poached salmon breakfast is absolutely delicious highly recommended.
M.
Great food and very fast service, considering they were very busy. Bacon could have been crisper but cant complain as service was awesome.
K.
Great place for lunch. Great cabinet food. Also looks like an interesting range of menu meals.
C.
Excellent breakfast. Although they don't state GF, they were very accommodating and said they could do most meals GF. Superb coffee both hot and iced. Very friendly staff and great service. The food was delicious.
E.
Good stopover for lunch. We tried the cod fish and chips and 2 soups - roasted pumpkin and tomato soups. The highlight for me was to see the rams. Hehe
B.
Better than the last time I came. Friendly staff, clean , good ambience, good burger. Much improved thanks!
J.
First time have been here since the extension. Has lost a bit of its charm. Felt impersonal.Came for breakfast. Had the big breakfast - exactly as described - eggs sat on bread/toast making it soggy. Missed mushrooms, baked beans and grilled tomatoes. The bacon felt as if it had been broiled rather than pan fried.
Cabinet food as always looked impressive.
L.
Our go to stop when we are traveling inland. Their pies are so good! Definitely try the Chicken pie as well.
W.
Very nice, patient staff. Really enjoyed our food. I had the chicken apricot burger. Also cute lambs to see!
K.
Food and coffee were delicious, and views are spectacular!
C.
The pies are to die for. Light flakey pastry and delicious filling. All homemade food on offer. Excellent coffee and the fruitcake is amazing.
t.
Very nice place for a breakfast, good food, decent amount, and great service with cheerful staff.
G.
All ways stop here for a great coffee
B.
The Wrinkly Rams is an interesting stop to make in Omarama. There is a large cafe, shop specialising in clothing items made from locally sourced Merino sheep wool as well as a handful of Merino sheep wandering around in back of the shop. Opening hours are 6.30am to 4pm daily.
We stopped here during our recent drive along State Highway 8 in route to Wanaka and ended up purchasing a Merino sweater and beanie that were put to very good use during the rest of our trip to South Island. So far, would very much recommend shopping here based on the quality of these two purchases to date.
There is a large car park at The Wrinkly Rams, clean toilets and opportunity to try sheep sheering if this is something that you might have interest.
D.
Great, classic kiwi cafe with a fantastically diverse menu. Get your standard pies, slices and sandwiches but also check the specials board. We were pleasantly surprised by the fish curry and the amount of soups on offer were great (not to mention tasty). Great views, great for kids, great gift shop and reasonably priced. Recommend if you’re out this way
M.
Good coffee and food. Helpful staff
G.
Great .... as usual. Never disappoints! Called in for lunch on Thursday and Monday. Best steak pies around, great hot dog, chips and hot coffee
B.
Great food. Excellent pie and thickshake and interesting giftshop.
L.
Lovely food, friendly staff, beautiful shop of warm woolly clothes
J.
Yum...old school kiwi tea room.....but better :) Got to have the blue cod!
N.
The food is always great here.
BUT! I know we don't have covid here - yet - but I was very annoyed by the woman serving at the counter yesterday who wore her mask under her nose - and compounded the insult by taking it right down to talk. Everyone else there, staff and customers not eating, wore theirs properly.
D.
Good selection of food as always, recommend .
L.
Nice place, good food staff are very friendly.
J.
A great facility. Very busy, great food and coffee.
J.
Nice food and service!
D.
Always stop here on our travels to and from Queenstown, great place. Try the pies
C.
Great food and coffee. Their homemade pies were recommended by their staff, but a few of us felt there needed to be more than 1 or 2 tiny pieces of meat in their delicious rich gravy!
M.
Amazing atmosphere, fantastic staff and service and delicious food
A.
Great place, environment and decoration.
Nice food, we stopped for breakfast and it was great.
W.
A nice stop over for us; especially where the kids can feed the rams. Food was also nice!
r.
Most delicious breakfast of muesli, fruit and joghurt and a cheese scone filled up my partner.
G.

J.
Best steak pie ever!!!!
Delicious coffee as well!!
S.
Very cozy place to take a rest stop at Omarama between Lake Tekapo and Queenstown. Flat white is good
s.
An awesome place to stop for a break. Good cabinet food and meals and excellent tea/coffee. Great service too. Cosy and warm inside in the winter and plenty of tables outside in the summer. Highly recommended!
P.
A lovely place to eat and shop, would have given 5 stars But the muffins are terrible, please change supplier or recipe
A.
BEST CHEESE AND DATE SCONES IN THE AREA! VERY OBSERVANT AND FRIENDLY STAFF!

A.
Great spot to stop for breakfast or lunch !! Make it a must do 😉
G.
Popular location for folks buying Icebreaker and other warm winter clothes made from merino wool or other fine natural fibres and material.
The bar and cafe next door is also very good.
I've had breakfast here and also had the steak for lunch and it was a large meal both times I had it, and the steak was done exactly right. Has cabinet food (sandwiches, hot chips etc) plus regular menu and also blackboard specials.
B.
Very nice cabnet food and good menu good coffee
T.
Very decent restaurant as for a countryside. Very big portions and homekitchen-kind dishes. Nice shop of Merino wool clothes. Recommend.
A.
There is great food that is of a very reasonable size to fill the spot after the long journey to the ski fields
P.
Great food for a great price
Good service 👍
G.
It is a popular spot to stop on your route. Plenty of out door tables. A big range of food. Service was chur- Mckenzie friendly style.
P.
Great selection of food with a good turn around
M.
Really nice food, however it was a bit odd that the muffin with the eggs Benny wasn't toasted, but nice all the same. Great coffee, nice atmosphere
P.
Very nice meal we will come back
C.
Very nice breakfast and early opening
S.
Love stoppijg here on road trips although this time was a very short quick trip to grab a bite to eat and drink heading home. Grabbed some handcream also so beaitiful and very needed in times where we are constantly sanitosing our hands 👐

b.
Absolutely amazing service and even during a busy lunchtime period our food was delivered very quickly and was delicious.
Highly recommend.
A.
Really good coffee and the carrot cake was perfect. We were there on a Sunday arvo and had a musician play live. Amazing vibes, and the gift shop in the cafe has some really interesting things too - worth checking out!
L.
Busy cafe long queue to the food cabinet but if you are after coffee head to the bar and they will order your coffee quickly. The coffee was good and the food looked interesting. Give it a try
R.
Great cafe and the best meat pies around. Home made and they taste great. Interesting little shop as well. Worth a break stop.
S.
Friendly staff, enjoyed the food, reasonable price. Well recommended food restaurant in Omarama
G.
Lovely quiche - vegetarian and a smoked salmon
J.
Good coffee and old school chips with chicken salt. Stopped by here on the way to Queenstown and it was the only cafe still open! Lots of cafes closed (but still said they were open) due to covid. Definitely the place I'll stop next time between Mt Cook and Queenstown.
K.
Excellent service and food choices
g.
Good coffee, my breaky (big breakfast, as usual) was pretty good my wife's scrambled eggs were not, were tasteless i thought they were like powdered eggs, not nice at all. Takeaway food is also pretty good.
P.
Great food by the fire. We stopped twice on the way south then back!!
S.
Handy place to stop and grab a bite to eat. Large selection of food.
Plenty of parking.
High prices would deter us from visiting frequently.
15% surcharge on public holidays.
D.
Nice gift shop. Good food. A little crowded at peek times. Service quick and efficient. Lovely out look.
B.
Great food fast service great atmosphere
C.
A great place to stop for a bite to eat. Lovely choices of food. Very hospitable staff. Plenty of seating both inside and outside.
j.
The food was high quality homemade and delicious. Pleasant spot in the sun, welcoming staff and obviously well known with the steady stream of folks coming through while we were there. A+++
B.
Loved this place! Great country decor with lots of wood furniture and high ceiling. Roaring fireplace even in the morning! And the cabinet food looked (and was) delicious! I had trouble choosing, it was all so yummy. We had hot drinks and and I had a huge piece of fruit cake. Our son had greasy food Hubby had something that went down so quickly I missed what it was! Looks like they have conference facilities and the wee shop attached has beautiful quality goods at high prices. I think tourists and locals alike would love this place - we did.
K.
Lovely friendly staff and the service was awesome. Plenty of room, great selection & very clean premises. I had the pumpkin soup and sorry but it was terrible 😟 Looking forward to trying something else on the menu next time and hoping it'll be better 🤞
W.
Very nice place. Good food. Try the Fish burger. Lovely wait staff.
T.
Great service. Good drinks. Food was edible. Avocado on toast was actually avocado on soggy bread.
D.
We enjoyed breakfast here while passing through on the Alps2Ocean cycle trail. Food and coffee was excellent and not a long wait. The shop was open to have a look around.
k.
Great wee cafe to stop at on your travels. Range of food was excellent, with great counter options. Plenty of seats, quick, efficient and friendly service.
The coffee was perfect too. A favourite family stop for us.
J.
Staff were kind and helpful, great local knowledge. Coffee was hot and strong and baked goods were great on our roadie after lunch! Generous portions for lunch too!
S.
Great spot to stop for a meal/coffee/snack. Great selection of food and good prices. Cute little souvenir shop too
D.
We passed through here for a quick coffee.
It's a large car & bar with great sheering theme throughout!! Keen to take my dad and sister here. They'd love it!!
Coffee was great!
Food looked good, but we had already eaten.
A.
Great lunch stop-over cafe. Lovely cabinet food if you on the move. Hot drink selection also superb. Will be back soon!
C.
Great food and drinks!
M.
Awesome Flat White here with tame birds coming over to your table with stunning scenery to boot
S.
Nice ambiance. Lovely staff. Food is prosaic and bland though fresh. Desserts look bloody fab especially the carrot cake. Double thick shakes are light on actual flavour and best if you loved vanilla as all taste like vanilla. Perhaps as them to step up the flavour. I’ll try the other place.....there are two others, next time
B.
Awesome atmosphere and fantastic yummy homemade food. Have watched it grow over the years and still it has the same top customer service.
S.
Love the food and tea and coffee
A.
Great space and lovely service. Turmeric latte was delicious!
N.
Great place to stop for coffee and food. Nice outdoor area and icebreaker shop attached
M.
Good food, reasonably priced, the staff was very friendly and service was excellent. Unlike the place down the road. By far the best I think in Omarama.
J.
This was recommended by family to stop off en route to Queenstown. It was so worth it! Fabulous choice of food and delicious. Wish we were going back that way! Chicken pie was lovely 😋 The staff were really friendly too.
D.
Good place to stop for a meal or snacks. Americano coffee was a very good espresso with hot water provided in a jug separately so you make make to taste. Don't often see that done, good touch.
G.
Found our new break stop for a cuppa and feed. Great staff and food with an affordable price. Keep it up 👍
D.
This cafe never fails to please. Great selection and so tasty. We always call in here when travelling
H.
The staffs are so kind, baby lambs also:)
b.
Nice atmosphere and cakes but gifts very expensive.k
A.
This is such a cool restaurant, it has lots of old fashioned furniture where the dinners sit which is really fun. They have an interesting menu, I think I had soup and toast which was yummy! There is plenty of parking and toilets for customers, also a fun tourist shop attached, good for a wee look around if you have some free time or want to buy a gift for a friend or cold weather gear.
s.
Walk in for a beer after dinner, they hold a private function and the waiting staff not sure if the chef can accommodate us. Turn up the chef is more then happy to not knowing we are only here for a quick drink. What a southern hospitality👍. The food for the function looks good. Definitely come back next time round. Check them out if you are near Omarama.
M.
Stopped to get a drink & break our journey up. Clean toilets. Nice little shop. Nice sandwiches, good selection & reasonably priced. Nice outside area to sit & enjoy your drink/food.
B.
An oasis after a lot of driving. Delicious food, something for everyone. Great staff, spotless bathrooms and an open fire.
K.
Good variety of food and buzzing
A.
We stopped here for a welcome beer after a hot dusty day of cycling the Alps 2 Ocean (A2O) cycleway. Friendly service. Shame they don't open after 4pm - would be a great place for dinner. Stopped again for lunch on the way out to Wanaka after visiting the Clay Cliffs.
Gave 4 instead of 5 stars because the sandwiches and wraps didn't specify dairy content and I picked a wrap that didn't mention cheese but there was cheese inside.
P.
Never fails to impress, excellent service, good quality food in lovely surroundings.
P.
Lovely jome made food and fab staff. Maybe some Kero and dairy free options would make it even better. Highly recommend..
D.
Great breakfast ordered big breaky friendly staff also had best seat in the house next to the fireplace👌
G.
Nice, cosy. Plenty of food. Nice sunny seating. Bathrooms and wool shop next door. Good parking area for cars and motor homes.
B.
Don't be put off by the number of buses and cars in the car park of this huge cafe. It looks busy but service is quick, friendly and personal. The food is fresh and delicilous and the coffee excellent. We sat outside on a McKenzie country sunny autumn day, and enjoyed being in this lovely place. Keep it up Wrinkly Rams!
J.
Very nice Mocha and great service
E.
Nice coffee and good food
R.
Defiantly worth a visit! Pleasantly surprised finding this great cafe/restaurant in Omarama. Awesome ALLPRESS coffee and the cabinet food looked delicious. Worth stopping on your way North to Mt Cook or cycling the Alps to Ocean. The Wrinkly Ram has a lovely atmosphere & the staff were awesome too!
r.
Very nice meal lovely friendly staff highly recommended 😁👍
k.
A must stop when driving through omarama, today we had the best barista with a great sense of humour and he made a terrific flatwhite strong, hot but not scalding. We orderd 8 items for $40, good value for money portions are also generous. Unfortunately the shearing show has been put on pause until we recieve international travel which is a shame with so many nzers finally travelling the country. We would have loved to see this.
L.
Great place for a lunch stop during the trip. The food is served really fast despite the crowd. The seafood chowder is nice.
R.
Good selection of snacks and meals in pleasant surroundings.
S.
Brilliant place. Amazing cabinet food sandwiches are soo fresh!

The best Kiwi cuisine I have ever had. Rich flavors, big plates, great service. Cannot say enough good things about the food here. Recommend to all.
D.
Fast, efficient and friendly service, great food and superb hot coffee.
Don't be put off if there's a queue, it moves very fast.
K.
Stopped for lunch and a coffee while passing through. Nice place to relax with views if sitting at the window. Staff also very friendly and proactive.
J.

Great coffee and service! Staff were kind enough to let me use the power outlet to charge my battery too. Lots of seating space. Definitely recommend!
C.
Quiche, chicken pie was splendid. Coffee is great.
P.
Really this is the best of limited choices in Omarama. Nice location, coffee good and reasonable sandwich bar selection but hard to give 4 stars as menu food I ordered appeared and tasted bulk cooked. However would go again.
A.
Nice place for meals in Tekapo. The soups were yummy, and the portion size is huge. Kids get to pat some sheep too, while parents can browse through the gift shop.
M.
Great atmosphere and aesthetic. Lots of space inside and reasonable outdoor seating. Good range of sandwiches and rolls and some hot food options as well as some ice creams and cakes. Would come again 👌🏼
J.
Been there twice in the last week for takeaway food when travelling there and back to Wanaka. Excellent food. Great milkshakes. Excellent service. Thankyou to the tall young man behind the counter. Excellent restaurant.

C.
Very nice food, a lot to eat for the price and quality! Nice welcoming, and good coffee! Best restaurant for miles around!
E.
Such good soup! Went for a second visit next time we passed.
R.
It is often said that if you want to enjoy a great experience with wonderful food go to the busiest place as there is a reason why it is busy and the Wrinkly Ram is always that way, BUSY. The food cabinets have a great range to takeaway or sit and eat in the relaxing atmosphere. You want a little more, order from the menu and you will love the quick service and beautifully presented food that will satisfy your taste buds. Add a glass of wine or a beer, coffee or tea perhaps, sit back and soak in the atmosphere of this special eatery. Don't forget the shopping and the access to New Zealand sheep outside in the pens.
c.
Great stop over, lovely coffee. Very tourist orientated, great building
D.
We were able to ring our breakfast order, delicious french toast, bacon, blueberries with yoghurt on side. 15/10.
N.
Very nice cafe heading to or from Queenstown/Otago. Great food and awesome customer service.
R.
Tis cafe is every cosywith an open fire going in winter. They stock a good variety of food and also have cooked meals. This prices are good. There is also a bar where you can get wine etc.

Should be more than 4.4 stars. It is the best cafe for at least 100 kilometers In any direction. Everyone in Canterbury and Otago use it as a contact point on the road.

Our pitstop after Mount Cook.James, the managing director demonstrates the sheep shearing and we had great time feeding the sheeps as well. He also showed us how the shepherd dog works.Staffs are friendly and helpful. Souvenirs are cheaper here compared to others..

W.
I always stop here on my way and back to Queenstown from Brilin. They have ready made hot food as well as menu. I like the atmosphere and staff above all
C.
Quaint tourist place. There are plenty of sheep next to the shop that you can pet and play with. The only negative is that the shop is full of clothing items clearly marked "made in China" for some rather substantial amounts of money. Over $100 for a shirt made in China is not a good deal to me. You decide for yourselves though.
S.
Brilliant coffee. Great service lovely outdoor seating for a quick stop. Has toilets and a souvenir shop too. Enjoy!!
P.
Great service, friendly and helpful, woodland coffee pretty good.
L.

Been there 3 times, good location when transitting between cities . Good meal options with reasonable price. Always not too busy and plenty of space.
J.
Perhaps ordering lamb at a place called "The Wrinkly Rams" was a bad choice. The meat was pretty tough and to make matters worse they initially brought me what would best be described as a butter knife. No edge. Once they gave me a steak knife it was a bit easier going but still required some serious chewing to get it down.
W.
