M.Fantastic bread, fantastic food in general. Combine that with great service and you have an awesome experience. Be aware that during lunchtime this place can be packed, so either book ahead or arrive earlier. I had the fried cauliflower with seeds, greens, celery and some hummus. I loved it!
K.Had to return 2 days in a row for breakfast, oh my gawdd!! I think I could eat here every single day of my life, it's that good! All the cabinet food as well as menu items all incredible, especially the potato hash cake with salmon wow! And the take-away sandwiches what I would call a proper sandwich! there is a real craftsmanship and skill to making bread, probably the best I've tasted.

L.Had a nice lunch here today and took home a couple of pastries. I had the confit mushroom grilled sandwich and my son had the cauliflower halloumi dish, they were delicious and presented beautifully. We felt bad that we couldn't finish them as large servings. Great service by friendly staff, if you're in Dunedin we recommend this place
W.As a person who mostly goes around drinking latte, this place features one of the best and most consistent latte! I've been there 7 or 8 times and was never disappointed. The latte has a very mild yet pleasant caramel-ish aftertaste to it without the bitterness. As for food I went twice for thier grilled confit mushroom sandwich and it was awesome as well. Highly recommended for the good food and good 'people' (other than the friendly baristas, Peoples is also the brand of coffee beans they are using). Photos are from 2 different visits featuring the same food and drink.
D.I haven't spent a lot of time in Dunedin but this places food came recommended and I wholeheartedly agree. Their toasted sandwiches are some of the best I've ever had. There is a really nice cozy atmosphere and solid service. Definitely worth a visit.
J.This place is the bees knees. I have only had the scrambled eggs and some of the pastries thus far but damn this place is so so good. Would have to be the nicest scrambled eggs I've ever had and would love to know how they do them. Go in for morning tea, lunch, or arvo smoko she is well worth the trip.

S.So good. The baked goods are delicious. I want to try all of it! Points off for microwaving my cardamon bun though - I wish cafes wouldn't do that, it makes the beautiful pastries all soggy.

A.Love the food here. Menu items easily changeable with no fuss from the staff. Lovely service sooooo friendly. Coffee was perfect. Food was really really nice and good to see some different options to other cafes. Something for everyone, local ingredients even better
R.Lovely atmosphere here. Any of the food is to die for. Not super kid friendly but my wee man and I enjoyed watching the world go by at the window whole eating a spinach and goat cheese tart. Coffee always on point and wonderful staff.

M.Side-on has added new life to an otherwise forgotten part of town. A slick and chic design makes this inviting place to stop for coffee, lunch, or to pick up a loaf of their excellent homemade bread. With a menu that is fresh and exciting, filter coffee that's perhaps the best in town, and warm and friendly service, this place is going to get deservedly popular, fast. Strongly recommended.
P.I mostly come here for the bread, because they make the best bread in Dunedin in my opinion. Their baguettes are particularly authentic and the olive bread is to die for, and I can't recommend their pastries too highly. Awesome bakery, congratulations too you all!
J.Gourmet baking and a very popular spot to meet up with friends or colleagues for coffee. The croissants are to die for, treat yourself to an almond or Apple crumble one :)

The kitchen is completely open plan so you can see the chefs in action at all times.
And the coffee was one of the best ones my partner has had. Was so good she ended up ordering a second one.

s.A different way to serve Chai Latte! They use loose chai tea leaves instead of the normal chai syrup. You get to pour the steamed milk and tea yourself too! Love it ❤️

r.Side On is an experience in fine pastry and baked goods. Anything off their counter selection is exquisite, and let's not even begin on how good their grilled cheeses are! Coffee is some of the best I've have in Dunedin too.

N.What a great place this is when you want something healthy and a bit different to eat and the coffee is the best plus you take home your own beans to enjoy at home. Excellent presentation of the restaurant and the staff are very patient, friendly and helpful.

F.Me and my girlfriend are visiting Dunedin and stumbled across this neat cafe on our way to another cafe we had seeked out. My girlfriend is a barista so has an eye for awesome cafes and decided to lunch here instead. Coffee is on point (she knows haha), the sauerkraut grilled cheese is mouthwatering and the sweets are simply delicious with an exciting twist. We came back for breakfast the next day. We had the confit mushrooms and Halloumi which were both incredible! I also went for another sauerkraut grilled cheese... just because!
And oh, the staff is super friendly!

R.The tea is amazing, the food is ridiculous(ly good) and the service is great. I have tried 5 different baked goods and they have all been flawless. Try the homemade chai if you get a chance!
J.Always loved the baking from Side-On and have been visiting them since 2019. I have to say it’s harder to get in now because it’s always so packed 😂 but we managed to devour the apple crumble croissant yesterday and it was just AMAZING!!!!! The crumble, custard, apple, and croissant 💯
