Summary: I won't be back to dine in, but if they do the calamari dish as take away then count me in! My boss made a reservation for 12. The reservation ended up being for the wrong branch. We looked at the confirmation email together - it was really confusing and unclear. So, to be fair, the staff weren't expecting our large group. Service: The food took 45min to start being served and the service was slow. By the time my meal was served, others had finished eating. This was the major downfall of my experience. Meals: The calamari was cooked to perfection (I tried some of my workmates). My burger was huge, and pretty good. It was listed as "Fried Chicken" with no reference to a lot of curry powder in the coating. I like curry so it was fine for me, but came as a surprise compared to the menu so buyer beware. Waffle chips were really good! Watch out for coriander hidden in other dishes. Ambiance: It was so hot at our outdoor table. There were plastic walls but outside of us rolling the whole thing up there was no breeze at all. It would be great on cooler days but don't sit out there in summer! The décor is not to my taste, I would call it "shabby chic" - mismatched chairs and half painted tables. Just not my thing but each to their own. 3 stars from me, saved by the food.

Stopped in on Valentines day, Honestly food was not great. First time I have seen eggs bene with cheese? My eggs were so overcooked, I asked for another two as they should be runny and the girl at the counter was very kind. The second ones were a bit runny but still overcooked for eggs bene. My partner had the omelette which was dry and bland. The cabinet food looked really nice, we had a berry cheesecake and frittata, the cheesecake was not very sweet but the frittata was nice. Iced coffee with caramel was amazing, one of the nicest iced coffees we have ever had and the mocha was great as well. Overall the front of house staff were really friendly and coffee was great but the food was really dissapointing.

Great little place with parking right outside that’s free. Veggie burger needed some avo but the vegan bowl was absolutely gorgeous! Yummy banana, chocolate smoothie with oat milk. Food allergies easily catered for.

Great place to visit as they have a fantastic selection of cabinet and menu food. If you have a sweet tooth this is the place to visit. We came here for morning tea on our way through Hamilton. Mr had a brioche and iced mocha, half pint had a berry muffin and iced chocolate. I had a sausage roll and latte. All were perfect. Be prepared to get “takeaway’s” as no one will be able to choose.

Recommended by Hamilton locals, Mavis & Co. has all the bones of a great little café. Don’t let appearance deceive you, this café in a car park will keep you pretty happy. The food on offer has an interesting little twist and anyone after excellent pancakes will be extremely pleased. The cabinet food is beautifully inviting so be prepared to give into your gluttonous desires for some carrot cake. The coffees also go down a treat, with an experienced hand obviously controlling the process. Smoothies of all natures were on almost every table such was there popularity. Service is a little lacking, so go here in an easy-going mood not in too much of a rush. Go here for a satisfying breakfast and enjoy this little gem in a car park.

Mavis & Co was top of my list for a treat Sunday brunch with friends the day after a sporting event, and upon entering we were quickly enthralled with both the selection of food in the cabinet and the items from the kitchen menu. The interior is furnished quite eclectic, but pleasant. Antique items were assembled with retro materials, the palm trees, stage curtains and chandeliers giving it an almost theatric dressing without being over the top; not what you would expect to find nestled away in a car-park behind a gym! The vibe in Mavis makes you feel like you are in another place and time. Being a treat brunch, we cut loose and ordered lots from the selection. From the cabinet a Bacon & Vegetable Langos; a herby pork sausage roll, and a couple of miniature mince and cheese pies. While from the kitchen we couldn’t resist the Wholewheat pancakes with berries & coconut yogurt, and a plate of the Chorizo, Poached Pears & Fried Potatoes. All topped off with a decent flat white coffee and a Berries n Cream smoothie. Without hesitation, every item we loved. The sausage roll was really favored with how many herbs we could taste, it was like eating a really hearty stuffing mix, delicious. With regard to the Langos, I don’t know why they haven’t caught on as a more popular staple in other cafes, I just love that decadently fried base with all the toppings you could want piled on top ready to fill any appetite. The coconut yogurt was the perfect fresh foil to the sweet berry compote topping the fluffy and moreish pancakes. Chorizo and pear proved to be the perfect tasty and crispy combination. We were all raving - and full - by the time we finished, desperately resisting the urge to pick up some cabinet treats to take home with us! Service was engaged and friendly; the girl serving us was politely being trained by her experienced co-worker, smiles all around. We didn’t have to wait long for our food. In short - what more could you ask for in a brunch spot? And whenever will we find ourselves in Hamilton again to return?

Popular place tucked away in Hamilton East. There was a large variety of good looking takeaway food in the cabinets, and the dine in menu is appealing to. Similar to other Hamilton establishments, the food ordering process is that you get a menu from the front counter, find an empty table to sit at and decide what you want to eat, and then come back up to the counter to order any pay - and hope that your table hasn't been taken. This makes for some awkward standing around at the front waiting to be seated if you are not familiar with the system. The menu has a decent amount of variety and the food itself is of high standard and presented nicely. I came on a Friday morning around brunch time and it was not too busy. Coffees came out quick followed shortly by the food. The relatively expensive hot chocolate was a let down, as it didn't have much flavor at all. The food made up for this. Eggs Benedict comes with a generous serving of bacon. The server also does not bring out water or salt and pepper. The water is a self serve tap and the salt and pepper shakers are located at the bar - you get them yourself. Overall, the food was decent for the price which probably explains the establishments' reputation, but the service could be improved and they really need to give some attention to the potted plants which are either fake or real - but dead.

Went to mavis n co Hamilton east for morning tea haven’t been there for a long time. On entering thought it looked different as the cabinets didn’t have the usual flair. I ordered a chicken wrap hubby a slice of hummingbird cake he also got a berry smoothie. Took ages for food to be bought to table yet place was quite empty. I had to go ask had already finished my coffee.The cake was nice and fresh the wrap was soggy and tasted yuk won’t be going back again it’s lost it’s beautiful quality of food and decor. Hopefully it’s not a sign of the times in Hamilton regarding takeover of eating vendors

Very nice. Good atmosphere and good food variety. I had a very calm lunch there with my wife after surgery. Parking was a little cramped and had low availability even though the cafe wasn't super full. Unfortunately, we ended up parking by some big rubbish bins.

Went here for brunch with my friend. The coffee was lovely and there was a lot of goodies to tickle your fancy. The gourmet sausage roll and vege frittata were great. The desserts looked wonderful: both the cupcake and the cake were flavorful but were sadly a bit dry. I would like to come back and try their brunch menu. It has a lovely area to sit outside and enjoy the warm weather. Service was lovely.

Great coffee and the best eggs benedict I've had in a long time. Good presentation, generous amount of hot smoked salmon and garnished with crispy kale. Visited Mavis&Co on Thursday the 27th June for a little birthday lunch. Food was nice, but my daughter could not finish her salad, so I asked the waitress (younger one of the 2 we saw) if we could take it home in a little container. She then put a plastic container down in front of me, next to the food bowl and that was that. No attempt from her side to take away the bowl and fill it for us. Not only do I think this is not very good customer service, but I was standing directly in front of the counter where you order and the till is, so access for the next customer to order was blocked.

My wife had the Donburi and I had a burger. The burger was good not great, a bit overpriced and my wife's Donburi bowl was terrible, more like a salad. The food is good but the reputation of this company is way overhyped. Was expecting better than what was delivered

My husband and I had an early lunch last Wednesday and found it rather disappointing for the price we paid, my husband had a pleasant coffee but the cup had lipstick on it. I had a salmon bagel which had been left in the microwave too long which made the bagel very tough and hard which I left on my plate. Green tea excellent choice. We will be back in the near future to try your tappas they sound great.

Mixed bag. Gluten free options aren't immediately recognised until the server tells you white labels are gluten free and it seemed she had been telling people all day based on her tone. Salt and pepper grinders should be on tables not hidden in a basket. You bought my mother the wrong flavour stack for her order and when told it was the wrong one the waitress questioned my mothers mental clarity about which she ordered. And then kept silent standing there until my mother accepted she would eat the one that was brought out to her. Waitress said 'great' and left. Most places would bend over backwards if they make a mistake with the order. However the frittata I had was fantastic. And the chocolate macaroon was insanely good. Definitely a 2 person dessert. Just needs more cream. The passion fruit custard square was awful, had no flavour and tasted a like the fridge it was kept. (So yes, technically there was a flavour)

When we asked the waitress she told us that was how they are supposed to be and next time we come we should specify that we want runny poached eggs. Isn't runny egg the whole point of eggs bene! Love the location (all alone), outside seating, and the interior is clever with good vibe, lovely staff delivering food. Great that you have not replaced an ugly duckling building with and architectural something. Custard square was delish. Ordered large FW with extra creamed milk, caused confusion for staff!! no not a cappuccino. Received an insipid coffee with thick froth on top - order processed as 'Cappuccino, naked, large. Oops, not what I ordered. ' Great that you do not have wifi - 'wifi cafes' are rather dull.

I have been to a few food outlets of this genre in Hamilton. A lot of the time its hard to find something that looks enticing. I walked in took one look and thought give me one of everything. WOW what a mouth watering selection of food decadence. Yum. Had the Chocolate cake. The cake was moist and cocoa rich, not to sweet as the sweetnes came from the selection of goodies atop the cake. Today a cake that was not GF was marked with a white sign I am so happy I asked to make sure... I tend to love their GF selection, but the white and light yellow tags are almost identical in color, which makes it tricky to see what the GF options really are. New customers would not even know that that is the system, took me a long time to learn. And it does not help if sometimes those labels are used incorrectly. Would be easy to fix that :)
