Only stopped in for a takeaway coffee and some cabinet food. It was really busy in there, might have only been one table free. Despite this the staff didn't seemed frazzled, they knew what they were doing. Place has a really nice decor and atmosphere. Coffee was good and the scones we got we're tasty

Fantastic cafe, on a work trip in Hamilton and found The River Kitchen. The staff were great and the food was excellent. Their hot chocolate with home made marshmallow on top is amazing. This cafe offers the ‘X’ factor with great small touches. Thanks

First time in River Kitchen earlier today for breakfast and it was an amazing experience! I was with my 13month old and husband. the staff made us feel very comfortable and accommodated. I would say they are the star of the restaurant! I would personally commend FERN! she was so nice to us especially to our little one, Zeus. Thank you! ❤️

Excellent portions & taste. I was surprised by the three poached eggs on my Eggs Benedict. The coffee & hash veggies were delicious too! It did take a long time for the food to be served but the flavors made up for the wait.

A consistently exceptional food experience at The River Kitchen. Maria & her team create delicious treats like the boiled eggs & toast soldiers with personality. The scones are excellent and the coffee is always hot & strong. Love the golden book menu story about the flavours of the Mighty Waikato region too. A definite Hamilton ‘must do’ for breakfast, brunch, lunch or catering too.

Food is tasty, fresh and quality. The Zealong Tea is well known in town. The service is brilliant as they always have a big smile on their caring faces. The cafe’s ambience is warmly welcomed My recommendation is try to pair green tea or any tea with a scone you like before or after the meal. You might fall in love ❤️

Had the best scone (date and custard) beautiful. The large coffee was the smallest large coffee in the world. Good friendly service

Cam here for a coffee on a Saturday afternoon whilst shopping. It recently moved locations and looks great inside. Had coffee and a scone. Good coffee, scone was very nice and proper clotted cream and jam which was very nice. Plenty of seating inside and good seating outside as well. We’ll be back for a proper meal at some stage.

I had the big breakfast the tomato chutney was very tart and the sour dough toast was so small it was the same size as the egg circumference my sausage was cut in half tomatoes were a bit burnt so that taste took over the tomato flavour, eggs were cooked perfectly. Coffee is great service was great. FYI...I cut the egg before taking this pic

They were short staffed due to COVID-19. Only half the menu was available. But pancakes were good.

When unsure of what to eat when you're in a foreign country, always rely on the Mr. G (my term for Google) and find the best option - nearby place with high rating. A quick search brought me to this cafe located on the main street in Hamilton. It was a small cafe with not many tables inside and you'd probably have to sit separately if big group - and that was what we did. ◾You can order directly from the menu, or simply go for their pastries, quiches, salad, sandwiches and others ◾Baked eggs with spinach, yoghurt, harissa & Turkish bread.. I added extra bacon ◾Toast with salted butter and maple syrup was no brainer for the kid ◾Scrambled eggs on ciabatta toast with a side of green and baked beans ◾Roast mushrooms with porcini cream and black garlic puree - the obliged my request to omit the rye bread and substitute with baby spinach on the side... The best mushroom dish that I had so far in NZ. For first timer go for their roast mushrooms as this is one of the star dishes. Somehow the porcini cream and black garlic puree work well with the mushrooms. And the coffee was good too.. I enjoyed my breakfast session sitting by the window while watching the world goes by.

Best mushrooms I have had from anywhere in a long time. The truffles go so well with the mushrooms. Even the toast was above average. The restaurant has a good atmosphere with friendly and helpful staff.

The food was very good and would normally have rated a solid 4 star but the service was slow and a coffee was forgotten so it was only a 3 today.

Delicious food and excellent service, however the prices seem a bit high. We ordered a sandwich and roll from the cabinet (thinking it would be cheaper) along with two drinks and it came to $55?

I frequently dine at The River Kitchen and am never disappointed, especially love the salmon hash though! Beautiful baking and wonderful service. Try the donuts or cinnamon buns, you won't regret it!

Interesting menu books. Friendly staff, clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, coffee was luke warm, and the bacon was overcooked and burnt. And the pork sausage was undercooked. Although a discount was given to compensate. Overall still a good visit and enjoyed our lunch there.

We only had coffee from here for takeaway but once Level 2 opens up again, we will definitely be dining here solely based on the exceptional service I witnessed while perched on the stool while I waited for my order. We were there on Saturday and the place was PACKED. With only one barista, a few bodies in the kitchen and a handful of front of house staff, this place operated like a well-oiled machine. I was so impressed by their speed and work ethic - every person on that team was working hard to execute a busy breakfast/lunch service. Can’t wait to go back!

What a start to our holiday... We left Auckland early doors and headed hear as our breakfast stop and were delighted with that choice. Delicious coffee to get us going and we've been so well looked after. The food is incredible, big generous portions and everything tastes great. Big breakfast is big but manageable. Daughter thought the straight up pancakes were the best she's tasted. Scrambled eggs were that perfect point between firm and runny. Good bacon and pork and fennel sausage worth seeking out. Would stop here again in a heart beat.

Always great service and food here. Today the menu had changed slighty and a bit disappointing to have to pay extra for eggs on a vegetarian hash when the salmon and prosciutto options are the same price, our drinks order was also misplaced. Usually can't fault this spot though.

Extremely well thought out & artistically presented food that came out quickly despite being a busy morning. A comfortable spot for a tasty, lovingly crafted, well portioned meal at a reasonable price brought to you with a friendly smile, or quick coffee and a bite from the wide variety in the cabinet to enjoy in a cozy atmosphere. Leaves you walking out the door feeling satisfied that you brought your hard earned pennies to the right place. Undoubtedly one of Hamilton's gems.

I would always recommend the River Kitchen. Premises, staff and food all good. GF people well catered for. Too limited in vegan foods, or at least identifying them on the menu as able to be served as vegan. Otherwise would have given five stars!

One of the top cafes in Hamilton... Great food and friendly staff. Seatings are a bit tight and limited so not recommended for big groups of more than 6.

Had a cappuccino, had an interesting flavor and I couldn't quite tell what it was but it felt like it was dancing on my tongue. Quite strong. The Hotcakes were amazing and I couldn't get enough. My partner and I are definitely coming here again.

Had a great lunch off their $15 lunch menu. The lamb calzones were excellent, and the gnocchi was polished off too.Oh my!! This place was amazing. Food so so tasty and quick to the table. We had a selection of sharing plates and was delicious. Great service as well. Nice and friendly. Of course we finished on sharing. desert.

Delicious homemade baked goods. I had their English muffins, amazing! But huge...and a blueberry lemon curd scone. yum. Downside, I had to ask for my coffee to be brought out.

a totally wonderful cafe, which can’t be faulted unless you remember RK’s original form a few doors down. the service is brilliant and the menu is so extensive! the interior is stunning. i do miss the vast cabinet offerings of the old store, which were so good, and the tiny cafe itself, but this newer version of RK is a hamilton treasure that i hope stays for years to come.

A cafe that is aesthetically pleasing for both eye and tastebud. Unfortunately they didn’t have their homemade crumpet but my alternative of homemade english muffin was just as good as the hotcakes we ordered. We ordered long black which was dark and delicious, and I just have to point out their menu is so cute and creative! Definitely feel the love staff put into create a chic atmosphere.

Cute little cafe along Victoria st. Decided to pop in for breakfast after checking out of our hotel nearby. I would describe the cafe itself as cozy with limited inside seating, but the tables and chairs on Victoria street are perfect on a sunny day and great for people watching or reading one of the daily newspapers they have available. Service was good and the food was made to a high standard and presented really well. One thing that let me down: we ordered a cola with the meal, which comes in a glass bottle but It wasn’t chilled. After asking for a chilled bottle the server offered a glass with ice and a paper straw which was a suitable solution, but I found it strange that they would happily serve a room temperature cola and expect customers to be fine about it in the first place.

Visited the cafe once during a holiday from Aus to NZ in Jan 2020 and was delighted by the food and atmosphere here. Would love to visit again if we make another trip to NZ. Highly recommend their scones and breakfast/brunch goodies.

One of very few cafe's with table service, and what good service it is. Of note is that all the combinations of what is generally referred to as "eggs bene" are available, part of a comprehensive menu. I'd be very surprised if there wasn't something for everyone. Highly recommended, my vote for the best cafe in the CBD.

Absolutely love this place. We are a gluten and dairy free household which is of no consequence here. The Salmon and Potato Hash is to die for and very definitely a family favourite. Always great service and great coffee.

Really yummy fresh and tasty food. Great location right on the river. Lots of room for large groups! Lovely friendly staff. Their cakes and coffee are the best, but I usually have a cheeky local wine!

We have been here now a number of times. We like the Spanish Beans with poached egg and black pudding best. I think almost every time we did order it. Only once, I can't remember what we had, we were a bit disappointed. Staff is always friendly. We seem also to have discovered tha you have best chances for getting one of the best outside tables either very early and at about 11:20 am. Otherwise, the cafe might just be full or, if you want to sit outside, you are sitting in full sun.

Big breakfast was indeed a big breakfast and very nice. Only did coffee in one size and unfortunately it was quite a small size. Excellent and friendly staff. Would happily return.

Went to river kitchen for lunch, lovely setting but no lunch menu so have to choose from the breakfast menu or the cabinet food, cabinet food very nice nothing special but tasty, I asked for a blueberry muffin never received that, and the coffee was shockingly terrible. We have to try to know but I need to say we won’t be back .

Good food taste, but need a little bit more attention on preparation, such as, bacon, bread and sausage could be more grilled and large coffee is too small.

Coffee was slow being made. Nice food but just under $50 for 2 coffee, 2 pies and a brownie is way too expensive. No prices on the cabinet food either. Won't be visiting again

We were not hungry but still went there for early lunch because of the high review. We had roasted mushroom and cappuccino. My boyfriend loved the mushroom so much that he said he would like to try the same cooking at home. The staffs there were really nice and sometimes would make some nice jokes with you. Must try!

Their pork and fennel sausage is worth the trip! Had the big breakfast and the salmon hash. Hash was delightful and filling! Big breakfast was exactly what you'd expect and sides we're so we'll seasoned.

Food was great but would have been good if my dish had arrived with the promised avocado. You can't just leave it off the plate cos its expensive guys. If u aren't putting it on the plate, take it if the menu!

My friends and I really love hanging out here, specially when we are looking to get super hammered on a Friday or Saturday night. The all you can drink packages are by far the best thing any pub can give a 20 something year old living in the city. A friend of mine had recently won a "VIP Package" deal with The River and decided to go here for her 25th birthday.

I have longed for Black pudding since leaving my last visit to Scotland. Having spent the last 5 Years ordering it from Stornoway. .... the breakfast I just had here with black pudding was outstanding. and I made the mistake of sitting opposite the cooler counter.... what not to buy !!! Am going back to Auckland loaded and planning a train trip back again soon.

Friendly and quick service, especially considering how busy it was. The Salmon Hash was delicious, very nearly too oily but all the components came together nicely. Will definitely come back in the future.

OMG these people are artists, the wait staff are lovely, the food came quick even during a fieldays frenzy, the drinks were excellent as well as the food.

Great wee spot with a really interesting menu both the actual menu you read and the food. The vibe is cool and the staff friendly. A word of warning. If you are in a rush make sure that you check what the wait time is for food.

Beautiful decor with subdued pastel tones. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming with very attentive staff. Coffee was great as was the blueberry and lemoncurd scroll. Very nice experience
