View is to die for, the staff are so friendly informative and efficient. The attached gallery next door you could waste a morning in here. The grounds you can also meander and spend time taking in ponds and sculptures.

Great service with a fantastic view. Very welcoming environment, Staff and everyone adores our wee pepe. The gallery is amazing with lots of cool stuffs. Susan and T was so friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend and we’ll def coming back on our next trip up Northland.

This is an awesome cafe! The gallery has so many cool pieces and includes a ton of wildlife. There is an adorable saint bernard that roams around that is worth the stop alone. There is a garden surrounded by bamboo and ponds that is very peaceful. There are really just so many little things to see here. The food was delicious and the view from the cafe table is also incredible! If you are travelling through the area, this cafe is a must see!

Nice views good little cafe with great local artist shop. The artwork is of a very high standard so don't expect anything cheap. Can get really busy on sunny warm days. Parking can become a bit of a challenge!

This is a hidden gem. Sitting nestled on the top of the hills over looking Helena Bay. We had a beautiful brunch sitting at a table with stunning views. There is a great Art Gallery next door in same building. Well worth the stop, highly recommend.

It's all about the view. They take bookings. It's only a 14km diversion off SH1 and it's en route to Russell and Cape Brett. Awesome gallery of art - sculpture, painting, photo reproductions, jewellery, furniture, glass, ceramics and much more. Cafe food is simple but good for light snacks or meals. Good for groups and couples. When you've done with all that you can walk around epic gardens with sculpture. .

A complete surprise on the road from Russell. Cafe serving pies, sandwiches etc by friendly staff, but for me it was the gallery that filled my tank. Variety of quality art, jewelry and sculptures, inside and in the garden. So worth the stop.

An amazing place to visit, for so many reasons. The views, the fauna, the people, the food. Peter has created something totally unique on the hill at Helena Bay. All the gardens he has planted by hand over 20 years, the theme is very subtropical. The gallery standard is absolutely Top Class, all the artists are hand selected to display their works in various forms. The Cafe food is also high standard, decor is very good, the staff are great, the views....... well, you decide. Sadly Peters dogs that have been giant gentle residents for many years have recently passed on and no longer greet you at the door. Take the time to visit his operation, just 19kms off SH1, you won't regret it.

We went to the Cafe before going into the Gallery. The vegetable hamburger was not something that I would have normally ordered but I did and wasn't disappointed. It was delicious - very tasty. The view was magnificent. The only thing that I didn't like was the flies trying to settle on our plates. The Gallery had lots of wonderful art, sculpures, paintings and jewellery. In a beautiful garden setting - serene.

Amazing location, really well done and thought out, inside and out. A never ending amount of things to see. With the art gallery and the gardens to the cafe and over look while eating I felt like I was in another country. Food wasn't the best but service was great, atmosphere was cool, even the other guests were super friendly. Warning though!!! Do not take a large vehicle, camper or caravan down, park at the top.

Wish I'd taken a photo but was in disbelief/shock that someone thinks it's acceptable to serve it like that. As lovely as the Newfoundland dog is, I didn't appreciate his appearance at my table. Drooling over my plate & clothes. For the price & reputation, I expected better.

Helena Bay Cafe has constantly provided top class food and service over the years. It is one of our highlights when we holiday in Northland. The staff are always friendly and accommodating and the view spectacular- on our recent holiday we needed to evacuate our holiday home and seek higher ground. We drove to Helena Bay Cafe arriving over an hour before their scheduled opening time - the owners seeing our plight opened immediately and invited us in providing hospitality and food. Soon we were joined by many others and they were all received with the same warmth. My expectations were high after reading the reviews, however, I was slightly disappointed at the menu, it's very basic which is fine for those that are after an easy simple meal. The venue is situated in a great location, seating is a little cramped and we found it a little too snug for a family. Definitely more of a coffee & cake setting for anyone reading this 👍

Peter has created a piece of heaven here. All the gardens are his handy work with a heavy tropical feel. Art Studio is of an extremely high standard with items for sale from a lot of skilled artists. The Cafe is leased out and serves excellent value for $$ food, with a varied healthy menu. The view from the open air dining area is totally Picture Postcard, looking out over the Bush to the Coastal beaches. Definately my first place to support.
