D.My favourite cafe in all of Southland. Friendly staff, incredible food that is like no other cafe in town and the coffee is the best part. They even sell their own roasted beans so you can brew at home. If your lucky enough to go to the cafe on a day they are roasting the beans, you get to experience that amazing smell and drink your coffee in an atmosphere that is honestly hard to beat
J.Stumbled upon this wee café looking for lunch. Highly recommended, especially the chilli scrambled eggs. Great service and presentation. Earth friendly too. Go in and knock yourselves out.
B.Such a wonderful cafe, food is A+, staff are friendly, well presented and have a lovely energy. Coffee is roasted in house and definitely can taste the love gone into it!
T.We order one scone and one Turkish egg, both are excellent in taste and looks, totally out of our expectations!
Salmon is fresh and eggs are soft. Strongly recommended if you want to satisfy your taste bud in Invercargill.
A.This is the best cafe in Invecargill, the interior is pretty 'hip' similar to the cafes you would find in larger towns such as Dunedin or Christchurch. They also sell their own coffee bean blends.
S.What a gem!! A very busy cafe, but glad we decided to stay thanks to the awesome waitress who made room for us. The three of us very happy with our meals: cous cous salad, the bagel and the beef tortillas. Almond croissant 👌. Lovely tea, mochas and milkshakes too..

L.Unfortunately I only had time for a coffee but it was fantastic. The food looked amazing and the menu is great. I’ll be back for more. They had a really lovely little art exhibition showing which made it so interesting.

H.Unfortunately they don’t do soy milk so while the barista & coffee is good it’s not my favourite.
They took the time to explain why they do the mills they do though and the servers here are so nice and helpful.
They also cater to people with allergies, like vegan and gluten intolerant people.
Love the atmosphere here. Hopefully one day they can make their own soy milk! 🤞

l.Awesome cafe with great vibes. Coconut & hemp milk blend was sublime, also bough their beans and brewed it with a chemex this morning. It was yum! If I lived in Invercargill I would be there everyday ☺️
A.Really tasty original food. I had Turkish eggs. Like eggs Bendict but with spicy homemade yoghurt. Nice coffee flavourful but not burnt. All home made where possible. Well done
R.I love this place. They make everything from scratch, even their nut milks etc. Very friendly staff, great atmosphere. Their hemp seed bars are my favourite along with an almond milk flat white.

E.Easily the best Café in town. The kai is awesome, the customer service outstanding, the vibe and ambience can’t even be described and last but not least, the best coffee in town! (Possibly the country IMO and I have had plenty from around the country!) Try it out and see for yourself!

The coffee is fantastic, the service is friendly and to top it all off the creative menu is stacked with great options (the Dark Ghana Chia pudding is well worth a try). If I lived in Invercargill I would make this my local!

T.Randomly dropped in on the way through town. You must have the cheese grilled toasted sandwich! So good! Great value too. I had a smoothie instead of coffee, but the vintage coffee machine was gorgeous to look at.

K.First time visiting The Black Shag Espresso Bar and Eatery, I found the staff to be friendly, helpful and willing to wait until all members of my group knew what they wanted to order. We ordered the following Reuben Sandwich, Bacon and Egg Wrap, French Toast w/ Bacon, Banana and Maple Syrup, Cheese and Tomato Toastie and 4 large Mochas. Food looks and tastes great, the mochas had the right flavour. All menu products seem to be reasonably priced.
There are other food on the menu that look tasty and I will be back to taste.

A.IThe Blag Shag Cafe in Invercargill reminds me of eating at my favoyrite cafes in Byron Bay - Fresh, healthy, conscious food options, loving the mushroom, cashew & slaw toasties. Great coffee and funky, chillaxed atmosphere.

B.Conscious of refined sugars and reducing them as far as possible through experiementation and iñnovation. And the soy milk appeared to be natural and not reconstituted from bean flour. It was also sugar-free, unlike the premade barista soy loaded with sugar that I often experience elsewhere. Its important to know your sugar consumption, especially if you dont want become chubby or if you are using insulin. All round, gorgeous food and pleasant progressive cafe. Couldn't fault it.
