Friendly, comfortable and welcoming. Not the cheapest but definitely worth the extra couple of dollars for a tasty menu that fulls a tummy. Well done Shine Cafe, I will return.

Nice cafe with big windows looking out to the street, seating is inside and out. We had apricot ball and muffin which was okay. The long black and Mocha was average. Very friendly greeting from staff who served us and service was fine. The only thing that was not good was one of the staff spraying and cleaning around us while we were eating with 20 minutes still remaining to closure time.

The food was ready super fast! Everything was cooked alright and I was surprised at how big the side portion of smoked salmon was. The reason for the 3 stars is because there was little to no atmosphere in the place which is important to me and the staff had poor customer service skills.

Shine Cafe in Lower Hutt is lovely, friendly local cafe which evokes a community and food diversity friendly ambiance. Staff is super engaging and warm and the espresso is exceptional. We were lucky to enjoy their date and savory scones with butter. The cabinets are full with various food items to cater to an array of food sensitivities including dairy free, gluten free or vegan. The cafe is very impressive and highly recommended!

Great local cafe where you can sit and totally relax and have a hearty light meal or get something out of the food display cabinet. The problem is, everything looks so good to eat, you definitely have a problem to decide what to choose. They have real great coffee. Friendly and helpful staff. We enjoyed the full breakfast and coffee, a real enjoyable meal. Very highly recommend to all future diners. Great eatery for the locals and visitors to go to, support the local business community. Will be back in the future.

Came here for the 1st time today with my family (2nd time for them). Had the Eggs With The Lot breakfast and it was huge. Didn't think I was going to finish it. Lovely food. Helpful staff. Great coffee. Tried my daughter's berry coulis from her pancakes. Yum. My other daughter had the Thai Beef Salad. Nice but not quite as good as last time. Very popular place to eat so tables were filling up fast. Not particularly cheap but happy to go back again.

I ordered a Mocha and a toasted sandwich. The sourdough was really crunchy and for the fillings you can choose 3, so I decided to go with Ham, Cheese and mushrooms. It was really delicious and next time I go, I will try another combination or another dish.

My normal experience at Shine is awesome. Super friendly staff and quick service. Had one negative experience of being overcharged but nowhere is perfect. Visit most days, love going there.

Always my go-to place for a lovely breakfast. Busy, friendly environment. Lovely lady (maybe owner?) served us today, chatty and with excellent customer service. Wish I'd got her name but if you come across a very friendly lady take her up on her suggestions.

Coffee is good. Staff was nice. Food was disappointing. Breakfast bowl consists of boiled veggies (spinach, mushroom...), over cooked scrambled, some sauce/relish at the bottom, be sure to mix everything otherwise it's savourless. Toasts tasted good, lightly toasted but cracker sized.

Had a wonderful experience this morning, the lady who served me couldn't have been any more helpful! even helped me to deliver the food :) It is the first time I have been to the café, but it definitely wont be the last time. I have been a customer of shines for a number of months now. I have to say they are the most friendly team. Not only do they know what I like they are fast and happy to make any changes I request. It is like being at home for a meal. The food is really good and they are one of the only places in the Lower Hutt that does good vegetarian food. They make great salads and have a great rang of tea. I am happy to visit there most days for a cup of tea and a read of the news paper.

I have visited this delightful cafe a number of times and think the cafe its self is very pleasent and a nice place to eat with good quality of food and coffee. However I am a restaurant owner and am very high on my standards of customer service which makes me critical of anywhere I go to enjoy a meal. The first intance where I had gone to enjoy a meal at Shine I asked for the eggs benedict a orange juice and a coffee, I was then charged to much and had to ask for my correct change. As I was walking to a table I would like to sit at I was told loudly from across the room that I need to get my orange juice from the fridge in the corner of the room!!. Why could the cafe rep not bring me my orange juice with my coffee? and also why was the fridge in the corner of the room which reduces the chance of upselling as it is out of sight??. Also to add I was eating at a cafe and not a takeaway.... On the bright side the food came out in good time and was of good qaulity as was the coffee. The second time I had visited I ordered the big breakfast and a coffee. I was once again charged too much and had to ask again for my correct change. I sat down and got to talking to some lovely women from Canterbury that were up for the Sevens. After a while I realised we had been talking for some amount of time and my meal had still not come out yet and coffee was long finished. I asked the cafe rep walking past "how my meal was coming along Ive been waiting 30 mins" and the cafe rep asked what it was and number. I explained what I had ordered and my table number and was told " oh I didnt get that order" and walked off with no apology or explaination of what was happening!! Not Im very sorry about what has happened I will check for you now and come back. I had to ask another cafe rep that was walking past the same question about my meal but this time was told "i'll go and check for you now". A short time later the cafe rep came back and told me "it wont be long". Another 20 mins past and the food finally arrived along with a generous portion of chocolate fudge cake and cream for free which was a good gesture. Unfortunatly its was 10am and why would I or anyone want to eat choclate fudge cake and cream at 10am!! (but thankyou for the gesture). Just some advice (please this is good criticism) Always apologise and be very attentative to customers if order is missed/late. ASK them if they would like another coffee or drink while they wait (on the house of course) for the meal rather than getting a surprise at a time of day that is a bit off for a rich cake and cream dish. All and all great place just need to up there customer standards and also make your drinks fridge more noticable to customers.
