Reviews of Silky Oak Chocolates
k.
Now this place was beyond belief. Cafe and museum and shop. Great and easy parking. Easy access for wheelchair and walker and wonderful service. Very nice place to spend money and time.
Must visit when you are in the area.
C.
Love, love, LOVE us an Iced Chocolate; still the yummiest in the land! Bit sad to see the price had increased & we now only receive 1x chocolate bean & no longer get a chocolate twirl on top - those were my favourite; but still a yummy treat even on a cooler day. 6mths later & still a go-to favourite. With a change in times - masks & double-vac proof is required to dine in here now. Grabbed a beef lasagne & a bacon & asparagus quiche to go - along with yummy Iced Chocolates. Yup, those keep us coming back for more!
J.
Nice chocolate shop. Very friendly staff. Tastings would have been good and price a little steep. Dark chocolate isn’t as dark / options on cocoa content not available. But overall a nice place to visit when in the Hawkes bay.
C.
Childhood memories being brought here and then deciding what to grab from the chocolate shop. Awesome food and service is always nice even when busy. The main thing that’s 100% always ordered is the iced chocolate, so yum and nice but am not happy with the less chocolate and size change.
N.
Very nice cafe, and the store was full of delicious treats
E.
I’m embarrassed that I didn’t expect the quality of food that I got! Amazing sweetcorn fritters and that side salad was perfectly balanced with the meal. Yumm!! The iced chocolate was like liquid gold OMG…
L.
Great variety of product in the chocolate shop and when we wanted to know about a prod.uct they found someone who could help. Highly recommend. Coffee shop was also great, we had a delicious iced coffee and biscuit, recommend stopping for a break
B.
A cozy stop with a cafe, chocolate shop, museum and souvenir area. We had breakfast at the cafe - the classic breakfast selection was generous and it had bacon, eggs, sausages, mushrooms and hash browns. They have tons of drinks as well. The mochaccino was the best i've tasted- the chocolate was smooth and the sweetness is just right. The price is not too bad! A recommended stop for anyone in Napier or Hastings area.
H.
Beautiful setting with the cafe, museum gift shop, and chocolate shop. Great place to stop for afternoon tea on a hot afternoon.
V.
Delicious food and good coffee! But it isn't cheap.
I would like to have seen more chocolates in the cafe because you can only find them in the store nextdoor.
T.
Good food, good location, good ambience. Service needs work. Forgetting our drinks order and then suggesting whether we really had placed one....isn't a great first impression.
R.
Delicious thick thick ice chocolate! Yum yum!😊 kids meal is super cute too. They have good breakfast menu as well. Good place to visit while you are in hastings 😎
C.
Delicious chocolate, fudge and Gelato, well worth stopping in. Fair prices and friendly service too
C.
The cafe was great. The museum was quite interesting but not well-suited if you had kids with you. Chocolates were expensive.
A.
Amazing food and the iced chocolate drink is to die for I'm fully in chocolate heaven, the staff are friendly & the chocolate factory has pretty much every type of delish chocolate available. My rating is A +++
J.
Cafe was quick with service. The gift shop had a great selection of items and of course different chocolates
B.
Good place , Well Worth Visiting Even if a Little off the main Drag.
R.
Only reason why I gave it 4stars is due to just one shop being open. Other than this and the prices, the truffles, chocolate and fudge are so yummy 😋
P.
Excellent food.fantastic service very friendly! Highly recommend 👍
C.
Got the iced chocolate from here. Cheaper to buy a tub of chocolate ice cream. Identical taste. Bit of a let down.
P.
Great Iced Chocolate, a meal in its self
s.
After reading the sign, I wont feel guilty if all I want for dinner is chocolate. Many goodies inside Chutneys, Jams, Vinegars and of course Chocolates, ended up buying Lemon and Passionfruit Curd, yum on toast.
A.
The salmon with poached egg on potato cakes was Devine and the little chilli chocolate hot drink was certainly big enough and worth it. One of my favorite places to visit when in Hawkes Bay. The chocolate factory and souvenir shop are diffenitly worth going into.
T.
Food is so nice and the price is fair. Will definitely come back.
F.
Only went to the cafe. Lovely fresh food and coffee, it all tasted great. But it was SO expensive for what it is. Well overpriced for my liking. Eat there if you can afford it. Coffee is priced as any other place.
J.
Can’t compare the hot chocolate I had in Madrid with this, but no other place nearby to satisfy the craving. Staff is friendly. The hot chocolate with chilly is nice. Menu didn’t look that good. Good place for a drive and chat.
C.
Had very nice lunch with friends sitting outside in the sun. Prompt friendly service at the cafe. Well worth a visit.🤠
E.
Beautiful food Beautiful service 😍
A.
A pity only there for half an hour but definitely on the worth a return visit on our own list. Great little cafe, a lot to see in the pantry shop. Sadly not enough time to take in the second retail area of gifts and other. Must look properly next time.
G.
The layout of this place is great. There is a cafe, chocolate shop and clothes/gift shop. They are all separate which I really liked. There was a good amount of parking. We would visit again next time we are in the area.
The chocolate is delicious.
J.
Good place to come if you want to have fun as a family and it's a rainy day outside. Older kids might have fun in museum (lots of reading and history), younger ones will surely enjoy more the fact they got a free chocolate upon entrance. A shop is available on site where you can buy their chocolate and syrups. Cafe with all the goodies aswell. It takes around half an hour to walk the museum if you are not reading all the history
S.
So much chocolate...we had a very enjoyable afternoon, and did all 3 experiences - the cafe for lunch (the salad was exquisite with the Passionfruit Vinaigrette) plus the museum and finally the shop. We had a great time all round.
C.
Delicious coffee and cheese scone. Lovely gift shop with lots of goodies
L.
Good size for groups siting inside or out. Lovely staff and service. Limited cabinet food. No savoury or sweet muffins. The side salad was just a small handful from a lettuce salad bag. The carrot cake looked and tasted very much like the supermarket bulk one. I expect a little better for the prices charged.
P.
I went there with seven other ladies we had ice creams sundaes which were to me rather disappointing mine when it came to me was almost melted it was more like a dish of sweetened milk. The shop was very nice rather expensive clothes but good quality. The jewelry very reasonable and attractive. Their chocolate expensive but very well created
C.
Nice place to stop.
Pantry store is great.
Museum entry fee I though was overpriced for what it was.
Chocolate is fantastic. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
K.
Old school country business with a chocolate museum attached?
The cafe was busy with locals, but nothing flash.
Paid just over $30 for a selection of chocolate shards, paid for by the weight, unfortunately there was no flavour in the different sorts.
This is a small roadside business, great to take the kids, to give them the experience, but that's all.
M.
A visit to the cafe on this visit (however there is also a museum, the factory itself and a gift shop). A usual selection of cabinet food specialising in sweet, but savory also available including a breakfast menu. Coffee also available. Fast & friendly service. Outdoor seating available including covered with blinds on cooler days. If you are a sweet tooth or a chocolate lover, do visit this place.
d.
Very nicely laid out store, very much a specialty store so be prepared to part with a bit of $'s
M.
Lovely morning tea with my friends.Relaxing morning.Staff very busy.
x.
surprised me, the chocolate brownies topped with the warm chocolate from their own products, yummy😊
D.
Great place.enjoyed the museum and of course brought chocolate 🤫
P.
Oh my god AMAZING!
Service incredible, friendly staff, the best coffee EVER and great food!
I am going to visit every time in in Hawkes Bay or passing through.
The best EVER!
S.
Best carrot cake ever - fresh, light and full of flavor. Also, the hot chocolate and chilli is so tasty, and hot!! Totally recommend giving it a try. Good service and the staff were friendly and helpful. Also they have a cool clothing store and a museum that is worth seeing.
紐.
Ice chocolate are wonderful, the must try items here.VH
G.
The staff are so friendly, they cater to food allergies, vegans & vegaterian. Coffee is awesome but hot Choc is Amazing!!!! If u enjoy dinning it a bright, clean, friendly, place I suggest you give Silky Oak Chocolates Cafe a try.
S.
I had the nicest iced coffee ever. I'll be back.
E.
Great food, great chocolates and helpful friendly staff
C.
Meh its over priced and under seasoned the chocolates are ok 👍
J.
Shop very expensive with goods that had nothing to do NZ. Imported food goods were the staple sale item for example. Not a great selection of their chocolates for sale which was disappointing because that's the reason I went there. Lunch was lovely, but their cakes are dry and several days old. Watery coffee. Staff are very nice and I hope this review will help them to lift their game because there is a lot of competition out there. All the best.
L.
good service..choices and prices good. will return fo
r future gifts.
M.
A nice little business but certainly not for locals unless they have no sense of value. The chocolates, especially were just way too expensive to ever consider buying, even for a special event.
d.
The best place ever for ice coffee and chocolate
S.
Great chocolate and ice coffee to die for. Will be back for another fix great ladies in cafe 😊
T.
Average a bit disappointing not to see chocolate being made and a bit over the top cost gift shop ok
m.
The choclate shop was great lovely service
N.
Went there for my sons birthday very good chocolate shop and the cafe was pretty good a cafe too, the hot chocolate was pretty epic
Will defiantly be doing more shopping there and at Easter time
M.
Nice food, lots of chocolate with a relaxed environment
t.
Always e joy and find interesting gifts. Love the selection at the Pantry
L.
Best chocolate you can get in New zealand, better than artisan Swiss Chocolates I’ve tried in the past. Been here multiples times already, tried about half of them so far and will be back to try the remaining ones. All rich and creamy and you can actually taste the specific ingredients so each chocolate is different so definitely worth it, highly recommend them.
The cafe is one of the best in Hawke’s Bay, they should get more acknowledgement over their food in general not just for chocolates. If you order a drink at the Cafe, you get two free chocolates to try.
M.
Staff are friendly and does not pressure anyone to buy anything off them. Believe me when I say that their chocolate is to die for!!! Best chocolate I have ever tasted which just melts in your mouth and make you gasp wanting more.
I highly recommend to visit when you are in the area. A+++
A.
Great team of people and superb coffee. Thanks!
J.
We love the chocolate brownie cake ! So good to go with a cup of hot chocolate .
D.
O M G......LOVE ALL THIS PLACE HAS TO OFFER......FOOD WAS EXCEPTIONAL
M.
Wonderful lunch. The kids enjoyed their meals too. The side salad is amazing, I could have happily eaten just a bowl of that!
J.
This place is tops. Museum rocks - So much information. Easily an hour's your if you like information. Chocolate great. Iced mocha was tops.
V.
This is such a awesome cafe. The food was so yummy. The chicken filo was crispy and the white grated stuff in the salad was good. Don’t be scared to try it people. Defs a must go. The shop and pantry are a must too
S.
Beautiful place for a cuppa an some food. Great atmosphere, nice staff, good food and a nice variety. A nice shop to stroll around for presents and I have brought lots from there. They also have a chocolate shop which is absolutely delicious and a great temptation to help your waistline. Beautiful!
V.
Plenty of chocos to choose. A must visit chocolate factory. Cheers.
B.
Quaint place with a museum, cafe and shop. Don't think the museum was value for money. There is a reasonable selection of chocolates and other sweets.
A.
Beautiful scent of Silky Oats Chocolate Factory. 🍫
L.
A nice little chocolate factory. A bit odd having the three separate shops (a gift shop, a food shop and a chocolate shop) rather than combining it all, but I guess it works for them. We didn't try the cafe but judging by the number of people in there it must be popular. The chocolates were nice, but rather pricey. Being able to view the action in the chocolate factory would have been nice.
K.
It is a fairly ok place. The chocolates are ok. The museum and shop were closed.
J.
Had a great time in the chocolate museum, they've done a great job of telling its history.
The cafe is very good too.
Well worth a visit, especially if you like chocolate.
L.
Beautifully laid out shop. Lovely shop attendant who spent time and chatted. Exceptional product on display.
B.
Changed locations since I visited when I was young but the chocolate is just as good. Didn't check the souvenir shop but the café was nice
Edit: Memory playing tricks on me, I remembered a glass window with the chocolate being made behind and a large chocolate bunny when I was young which I didn't see this time
L.
Lovely place to try out and purchase chocolates. They also make fudge but sadly no samples so if you want some you have to trust the flavours are good. I bought licorice fudge which was surprisingly good. Personally I believe they would sell more fudge if they did offer samples as it is just too pricey to buy something you may end up being disatisfied with.
N.
Been here many many times. Our clear favourite cafe in Hawkes Bay. Great chocolate, sauces, dressing, ice cream and other goodies from the shop. Great for nice food gift baskets. A must for HB locals and visitors. In the cafe try the chocolate cake or brownies with made on-site chocolate saus and crea, to die for and the best I've ever tried.
D.
Great place to take visitors to the bay. History of chocolate making tour. Able to watch chocolates being made and a great café too
. Lovely food reasonably priced. Lots of chocolate goodies as well as lunches. Good coffee too!
M.
Chocolate shop is lovely but the cafe is pretty average. Cabinet food isn’t anything special. Got a hot chocolate made from powder. At a chocolate shop cafe you’d usually expect it to be made with melted chocolate.
S.
They have a great chef, who comes up with some very tasty food. Reasonable charges, good service and happy, helpful staff.
D.
Silky Oak Chocolates was not what we expected, the "museum" was a gift shop. The cafe was okay, not very chocolate orientated as you would expect.
The chocolate it self was nice, but to eat some with my coffee I had to go to the gift shop and take it in to the cafe.
Everything just very gift shop orientated.
Not much apart from looking in gift shops and eating non chocolate related food to do.
T.
Delicious yummy chocolates and fudge, plus other treats. Definitely a must see
D.
The staff were friendly and the service was fast. As you'd expect, they have a chocolate focus with some unique items, such as the chocolate toastie that I ordered. It was surprisingly nice, though the portion was huge, especially with both ice cream and cream on the side. It's definitely worth trying something different!
The museum was interesting, though some of the information was repeated among the different exhibits. It is a history of chocolate from its initial discovery until about 20 years ago. It's okay, but not great.
J.
Always a great place to eat.
S.
Outstanding service from Silky Oaks today. They alerted me to courier delays because of the COVID backlog, got my order ready to pick up (saving me DAYS of waiting), and "refunded" me the shipping cost in the form of a VERY tasty dark chocolate bar. AAA+++
L.
The chocolate shop was amazing. Sadly the cafe wasn't up to much. A 20 minute wait in a non busy cafe is, in my opinion, totally unacceptable. People who arrived after us were served first. Won't be going back
K.
Very nice and great selection including fudge
D.
Lovely little place with 4 different outlets of a cafe, a pantry, a knick knack shop with lots of different things and last but not least a lovely Chocolate store....so there is something for everyone. A great place to stop after travelling the Taihape/Napier road. Fab fab fab thanks for a great visit.
P.
A nice place to visit. Shame couldn't buy a nice chocolate in the cafe to have with coffee.
B.
Clean and good service at cafe. Will be back.
A.
Iced chocolate and stuffed potato was fantastic. Quick service. Have returned after being disappointed over a year ago. Sign implies that their staff are rude and that that is okay, not sure if this intent. Friendly and polite staff make people feel welcome. Passionfruit and mango ball should be avoided. Outdoor eating area could do with a revamp.
N.
Most enjoyable lunch. Lovely shop assistants. A very easy to experience
M.
Great specialized chocolates
s.
Mmmmm chocolate! Cafe lunch for 4. Cheesecake roulade fritatta Iced chocolate and English Breakfast tea and coffee. Nice lunch. Chocolate making fabulous to watch. Complimentary chocolates were yummy. Gift shop superb.
Very welcoming and friendly staff in Chocolate factory and Gift shop hence 5 stars.
M.
Another good place to share with friends. Tasty food, plenty of parking.
D.
Their chocolates are good, but their Hot chocolate delight in the cafe is out of this world great!
P.
Was expecting a possible tour of the chocolate factory with my golden ticket in hand. But the museum is more history than anything. There is a viewing platform but is limited.
The food at the cafe is great and the iced chocolate is to die for. Coffee is goid as well. Recommend for adults. Not so much for kids. However must say that staff were very accomodating for kids.
A.
Super, creative chocolates made on the premises : clothing store with exquisite ladies and men's garments: another shop with gifts - all sorts of beautiful items and a cafe with delicious food, very good coffee and their own hot chocolate. Highly recommend Silky Oaks for a visit.
A.
Friendly staff, great products
K.
Delicious!!!!!! Beautifully crafted chocolates. A shop of extra goodies too. The cafe is a lovely location, indoors or out for a catch up
K.
The cafe is just fantastic..staff are lovely and the food is very nice.
S.
What a beautiful wee gem. Lovely staff. Beautiful chocolate and gifts galore. If you are in the area definitely pop in for some sweet treats
T.
Looks to have lots of great range but as we arrived just after a tour bus we were crowded out. Unfortunately no tasters were provided for the kids, se we felt pressured to buy something once the shop had cleared out. Key tip provided by staff was to skip the museum if you have young kids as there is lots of reading.
S.
An interesting place to visit, lovely chocolates and gifts.
W.
Great service and food was good
P.
Chocolate Shop absolutely clogged with cruise ship guests who pushed in and made a genuine nuisance of themselves. The two other stores on site are larger so could accommodate more people. The chocolate itself? Yum!
A.
Fabulous range of delicious cabinet food and brunch/lunch menu. Good range of gluten free options also. Must try their extreme hot chocolate. Lovely rural setting.
C.
Friendly service, tasty omelette. Loved the little chocolates served with the pot of tea, so had to go next door and buy a stash if them!
F.
Always great service, delicious food and chocolate goodies, and lovely items in the museum shop.
K.
We called for a cup of tea in the afternoon because we were in the area. We decided to share a slice of lemon and passionfruit cheesecake which arrived with chocolate sauce and two swirls of whipped cream. We declared it delicious. The complex is tired and needs a new vision to update it. The dated colours of the buildings and signage did not draw us in to the other stores and we weren't looking to buy chocolate. It felt lost in time and 'nanna- ish.'
C.
OMG chocolate lovers heaven! The smell of the shop alone was rich with chocolate. We had peices of the dark chocolate and fudge over coffee at the on site cafe. Yum yum. Not to be missed if you have a sweet tooth.
J.
Great handmade chocolates with an awesome chocolate tour that you can walk around and read about the history. It also has some of the old chocolate ads for you to sit down and watch. You can also go to the shop and watch them make some chocolate while you buy some of the goodness.
D.
Gorgeous GF Brownie at the cafe and an intetesting gift shop with a variety of gifts and the chocolate shop is of course great. Nothing is bad if it's chocolate.
S.
Bit sad, the shop by the factory is closed, we wanted to look through the window to see the chocolate makers at work.
Exspendsive chocolate, but very nice.
We savored every morsol...
I.
Such a awesome place to go, wish we could of stayed longer! Great chocolates and heaps of gift ideas. Will definitely go there again so we can try the cafe.
M.
Great food and very obliging staff.
E.
The salted caramel milk bark was a little bit too salty but the rest was delicious! The are Staff very friendly and helpful.
I.
lots of delicious chocolate on offer along with souvenirs, clothing, toys and a museum, which is not free. There are free tasters on offer. Plenty of parking and a very attractive cafe with plenty of delicious food choices. Very clean place.
S.
There is a chocolate museum, paid.
Separate shop for all their chocolate products and also gourmet food supplies.
Cafe is also open.
K.
Just finished my Xmas shopping. The perfect place to do it. There's something for everyone. Dogs, cats, men, women and kids,
C.
Chocolate here is sooooo yummy. Worth the trip. And they have great gift ideas for that special person in your life
S.
Amazing museum :) Amazing Customer Service :) And the best chocolate, and gelato ice cream EVER :)
F.
Nice cafe. Friendly staff. Very tasty chocolates. The museum was not as good as I expected but the cafe, pantry and chocolates were really nice
K.
Good chocolate
Can be quite Expensive for sure but great quality!
Cafe is great too!
A.
We had pretty decent coffee here. Staff were mostly friendly. The chocolate is very expensive.
c.
Love this place. It's a must everytime I go to Napier.
N.
Great experience and it's a great way to find out the history of chocolate making.
C.
Pricey but lovely and quirky nice items for sale. Definitely worth a.look.
L.
Great food but very busy on the day I visited. Took some time to get our meals but worth the wait. Great chocolate shop too.
V.
Really good lunch, great location and service with a smile.
Z.
Tesla charger is super slow but shops are great and so is the cafe. Friendly staff. Great slices. Chocolate so smooth.
K.
Very nice lovely staff. The bowl of soup for a man meal could of been bit larger. But very tasty.Best coffee nice and hot.
K.
Nice food and lovely service
T.
Place was nice, chocolates were amazing.
Hot chocolate at the cafe was not very chocolatey though coming from a place where chocolate is created.
S.
Lovely chocolates, a bit pricey but great tasting. Got there in the afternoon and could not go to the museum as it closes at 3pm which was a bit disappointing.
R.
The most amazing gelato & a licorice flavour yum.
J.

H.
Has a friendly atmosphere located in a rural setting .Food is well presented a great variety very tasty and satisfying.
H.
High quality, but overseas tourist level prices will be a barrier to many Kiwis.
B.
Such yummy chocolates, good cafe and simply THE BEST iced chocolates around. The little shop with preserves etc is also really good.
D.

Great little complex. Very good quality products. Delicious chocolates and a lovely cafe with very reasonable prices.

This place was extremely expensive and the staff were not that friendly or welcoming. My husband and I ended up turning around and going into Napier to find somewhere else to enjoy some coffee and chocolate.
J.
Kids enjoyed the Little chocolate shop. They had good fun picking up their favorite chocolate and fudge
t.
