Fantastic food, cute waitresses and great service. My son and I had the eggs Benedict this morning for breakfast after having dinner there a few times. The wait time was understandable, we got our food earlier than expected and it was amazing. I can't recommend enough 😁

Mountain rocks always serves a great cup of coffee, with friendly staff and various options for food. Their pies are of a great standard and definitely a must-try. The decoration sets a nice mood for staying in when it's less than warm outside.

We had a fairly large group and all the other places were full. We were lucky that there was space here to fit us all. The place had a really interesting decor, lots of interestingly painted animals, many of which were purchasable. The menu has a fair selection of items and there is also some cabinet food. It was a bit disappointing how the specials menu on the back of the counter were items on the menu. I had a hard time picking between the scotch and the lamb shank and ended up with the shank. I was not disappointed. The nicely cooked shank had a really nice sauce over it as well as a jug of mint sauce. I'm not a big fan of mint sauce but this one was nice because it wasn't overly minty. The potato underneath was also quite delicious. It did get busy later on, particularly since they were streaming the North Vs. South rugby game. It was a nice place for dinner and has decent options for drinks too.

This worked out better than any other restaurant in town that we first looked to go to after a day of skiing, but couldn't bc the others were all booked. We found a large table for 9 that happened to be open, they have beer, they have ribs, they have Rugby on 2 TVs and the audio dedicated to the game, andddd they have a great seafood chowder (heavy on the prawns, not on the mussels - but you can order a platter of mussels too).

This place is amazing. It is decorated very well and unique. It also has amazing food and very fast service. Whether you are eating a quick breakfast before going to the mountain or just having a meal, I highly recommend this place.

Half pub half restaurant. Inside is a bit worn down looking, but do have a wide selection of food and drinks. Outdoor seating is good, though it’s near the smoking area. Already popular during summer so must be more popular in the winter.

We stayed in airbnb on Friday to Sunday. Visited the Cafe on Friday, Saturday morning for some scones (one savoury, one date and orange). Back again on Saturday evening for a drink then Sunday morning for breakfast before returning to Taupo. I think you know by now we thoroughly enjoyed our visits. Food good and reasonably priced. All staff members friendly and polite. Certainly will visit again and recommend to everyone.

We popped in here for morning tea. The three of us ended up getting the same thing since we had been here before and our son and me enjoyed it last time. The coffee was hot and fairly strong. Which given I got a bowl is really good. Hubby got two coffee the first a small the second a tulip cup. Which he found really good. Our son got a smoothie which was a good size and tasty.

Amazing place - Friday night and service was efficient and friendly. Ribs were perfect size and texture, nachos were generously sized and ridiculously well priced - should be charging $19 not $14! (Just don’t put so many nachos on it, they’re wasted each time)

If the owner is reading this - do yourself a favour and cut the portions down, and save a stack of food waste and cost in doing so. 4 stars for service and ambience, three for food and portion size.

The cafe itself is well located in the heart of Ohakune and has plenty of room. They have a good menu though the cabinet food is less interesting. The main downside is the service. While it was okay there was definitely a feel of it just being a job and hardly welcoming. Great for larger groups and is comfortable.

Stopped in for a beer while on a days ride, my fellow riders purchased a beer and food, the food was well made and presented and both stated they were tasty (Eggs Benedict, Toasted Chicken Bap) only very minor let down (very minor) was space, the seating area was rather tight, and chairs and tables cutting across 1 of the entrances.

We went on a Friday, was stoked they had live music, the fella did a good job too, he was pleasing the crowd. He had to play with the sports on TV, but thats the vibe in a lot of places unfortunately. The crowd didnt mind, some were there for music, some for sport so I guess everyone got what they wanted. Now about the food... it was good. Service was fast, friendly and the food was up to scratch. We saw some negative reviews but because there was live music, decided to risk the kitchen. It paid off. Steak was a little on the thin side and wasnt cooked exactly to request, but I've paid more for worse thats for sure. Portions were generous. We would happily go back. Count us as satisfied :-)
