We stopped in for morning tea on the way to the beach. Lovely food for adults, but barely anything that the kids would even look at. The space is quite a good warehouse conversion. It didn't hide it's nature, but felt warm and comforting within it.

Is there a funky cool vibe café in Otaki? Yes there is. Gorge Café on Riverbank Road is just that, I always have an exceptional coffee here, food is fabulous and the quality of the ingredients is a notch up. Looking forward to testing the recently new Burger menu while I dance to the DJ sounds.

Great find in Otaki! Serving People's Coffee - which they extracted well. The staff were super friendly, and accommodated vegan and gluten-free requirements without any fuss! Falafel wrap was amazing. Awesome stock of some speciality grocery items for sale.

We ordered two breakfasts, two hot drinks and a scone. Scone was freshly baked and was quite nice. Breakfast food was hot, not particularly tasty and needed plenty of salt and pepper. For $24 the bacon on the plate was measly, sausage was good, standard gourmet hashbrown was boring, mushrooms were tasteless. Staff were friendly, surroundings were pleasant. Croissant in cabinet looked nice and might have been a better option. Worth another go I think ... will try something different next time

Fantastic healthy food, very fresh & good quality (& delicious) I had the Reuben, my friends a NZ Tuna (smoked eel) salad, & a big breakfast. Generous portions & very filling. Served with fantastic service, enthusiasm as well as smiles. We were up from Wellington & were delighted to find this hidden gem.

Nice to visit, friendly staff and comfortable atmosphere. Bit pricey for a cafe that's off the main drag, and they forgot the kids' orders and had to be reminded to bring them out, but otherwise quite pleasant.

Not quite the best breakfast as we were led to believe when we Googled it from Wellington. Local produce was tasty but the entire meal was very greasy even the so called fresh white bap that came with the all day breakfast. One small sausage sliced 4 times down its length didnt impress me for the price of the meal. Two very small bacon rashers and a hard fried egg along with a very greasy and watery hash brown completed this $18 breakfast. To give you an idea of how much was on the plate it was all inside the greasy white bap. If they were to dry off some of the grease before serving and not stack all the meal into the bun it would improve the look of the meal. Serve the fresh white bun on the side of the dish so people can decide how they want to eat the meal without getting covered in grease. The coffee is very nice and the staff were nice to.

Love Gorge cafe, friendly down to earth, lovely staff. Service is excellent and their range of food is scrummy. My favorite is their coffee, scones and also the open sandwich. Their is arrangement of deli produce and art from locals, to purchase, always amazed at the talent. Make time to pop in and have some kai and drinks.

Definitely 5 Star. Coffee excellent and extra hot as requested. Date scone convection oven heated to gentle crisp exterior as they should be. Friendly staff. Large but cosy warm interior. Only thing missing; a flag outside to give a hint of good times within.

We went for lunch today rather late but they were serving lunch where most cafe’s would have closed. Super friendly staff who were more than happy to make us what we wanted and swap things around on the menu. The coffee was delicious also. Really nice ambience to the place. Will be back!

So glad we Googled where to eat in Otaki on our way north out of Wellington or we would never have found this place which is in the industrial area, not on the main drag. What a great find! I'd give it 10 stars if I could. Loved our Reuben and big breakfast, fantastic coffee. My Reuben was gluten free and my coffee decaf - bread was top notch and coffee superb. The bacon and sausage in the big breakfast were amazing, and the pork pastrami... OMG! This is NOT your usual cafe menu where they trot out their version of eggs bene with cheap bacon and canola-based hollandaise... in fact I don't even think eggs bene is on the menu! Delicious looking Gelato and big range of deli items. Lovely staff who seem to genuinely enjoy interacting with their customers, even those of us just passing through. Also had a read of the Otaki Mail, the local community paper, which we always do as we also run a small community paper in Auckland. Suggest you pick up a copy while you're there, its a great read.

It’s great to finally have a cafe in Otaki that gets away from the old school feel. Gorge is fresh and funky with great food that’s head and shoulders above the norm. Also they have a really great barista serving fab coffee. All the staff are attentive and friendly. Can’t recommend highly enough .

The best breakfast I have ever had. Everything was cooked perfectly. The sausages and bacon were excellent. Even the tomatoes were perfectly cooked and full of flavour - usually tomatoes are what lets a breakfast down but not in this case.

Fantastic spot and a hidden gem off the main st. Highly recommend people travelling through to take a brief detour off the main drag and stop here. You won't regret it. Food is of excellent quality for breakfast, lunch and snacks. Wellington + quality, In relaxed rural otaki. Staff are super friendly, love the free homemade treat with every coffee, coffee is of high quality. Staff are really welcoming to families and kids. Atmosphere is warm and modern. One of the best around.
