Reviews of Viv's Kitchen
S.
Nice place to stop by on your way through Sanson, especially with kids as it has a playground. Food was fine, nothing special though. Kids loved the horns. However, the staff wasn’t very welcoming and also closed the cafe an hour earlier than stated on their website. Might be an unpleasant surprise for travelers.
M.
Called in this morning for breakfast, good timing too as it was nice and quiet.
Staff were friendly and showed us how to scan in.
Nice and tidy place with quick service.
Our eggs bene with salmon were on point👌🏼 as were our hot drinks.Highly recommend.
J.
We were on our way to Taupo and stopped at this cafe after seeing a big sign about the most famous cream horn in Sanson. We tried the lemon and chocolate horns and they were lovely! Crispy skin and the cream was not too heavy. A nice and friendly place to stopover for lunch or coffee. They sold more than 300000 cream horns since the cafe was opened! Worth a visit.
N.
Awesome service staff were and polite especially with asking for covid pass best place I've been too
Awesome and lovely food as well with a couple of chocolate milk shakes
t.
Best boynesberry cream horn i have ever had in my life. Ive driven past many times and im so glad this time I stopped ... Will definitely be back to try another flavour. 10 out of 10 !
A.
Had an early morning drive to Wellington and there weren’t many places open at 7am to grab a coffee. Was very excited to finally pop in as I’ve driven past so often. Service was amazing, covid conscious, very clean, just such a cool spot to stop - great playground for kids! Wish I could give 5 stars but unfortunately coffee wasn’t that nice, especially if you’re after an early morning fix. Potentially all that is needed is to be supplied with better coffee beans! Will definitely be back for some more pastry goodies!
P.
Great place for a treat. Staff members are very happy and helpful. And yes these are as yummy as they say. 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
E.
All over good food it was quite busy when we visited here. It’s a good little hidden gem to pop in on your way to Wellington. Good vibe, good food, good ambience and great value for money.
It’d be rude for you not to try a creamed horn!
L.
Visited during a busy Saturday morning. The cake selection is amazing and highly recommend a visit to this retro themed diner. Got cakes to takeaway as the cafe was very busy!
C.
Not only does Viv make the yummiest home baking (especially the Rodney slice) but the coffee she (herself) made for us this morning is one of the best we have ever had. Even though currently very short on staff, we still got great service, great food & coffee and we highly recommend supporting this great business! Well done Viv, Kevan & team. 11/10
D.
Old school retro tea shoppe that has undergone a wonderful retro renovation. A good selection of pies, sandwiches, and sweet treats including a cabinet full of their famous cream horns.
R.
If there was a 6th star I think I would give give that for the decor alone! Imagine stepping though the door from a grey carpark on a very wet day into a perfect reconstruction of a 1950s diner. Fabulous. We chose a selection of cooked breakfasts all in the group agreed the food was delicious. There were also cabinets filled with savouries and sweet treats, including some very tempting pastry cream horns. I would stop at Viv's pantry just to get one of those. Loved this place.
D.
An awesome place, friendly staff, great food and a lovely play area for the kids.
A couple of their famous cream horns fir later
M.
Great cafe. Very tidy. Friendly staff and awesome food. Definitely recommend.
p.
Stopped in for breakfast on way to wellington.
Staff were all amazing and very friendly.
I had the big breakfast which was very good. Only thing that would make it perfect would be proper sausages instead of pre cooked.
Will be back

We always stop here when passing through Sanson. You can't go wrong. It's got a great feel with the quirkiness and the rock'n'roll diner theme. The cream horns are delicious. If you want something else though the cabinet is always full of excellent options and the menus good. Service is always friendly for us.
L.
Awesome retro vibe, great food and coffee. ☕
The cream horns looked amazing and had I not maxed out my carbs for the week already, I would definately have had one!
A great spot to brunch at on our way back to the Naki.
D.
Have been here lots of times, but this week arrived over an hour before what we knew was closing time, to be told they were closing very soon. They said it was very quiet but while we were there a steady stream of people came in only to be turned away or to buy takeaways. It was disappointing as we have always loved visiting and had planned to call in for lunch heading home from the airport.
K.
Woah. Omg. Wooooooooooah. The place is both an actual and visual feast! The cream cones are magnificent! No soggy pastry here and the decor is fun, upbeat and retro-50's in style. Every surface is cleaned thoroughly between customers. The staff are absolutely delightful and full of energy, you really get the feeling they enjoy their job. It manages to be both warm and cozy, and bright and clean. An absolute must-stop-in for any North Island road trip.
N.
Worth a stop if you are passing. The cream horns are nice when fresh but overall very decent food all round at a good value. Theming is nice but the reason to go is good food at good prices.
C.
Great place,very busy..well organised,and plenty of good staff,the cream horns,and raspberry iced pastries..were giant.and beautiful..👌gotta go...

Most delicious mince and cheese pies. Thin flakey crunchy pastry packed with rich mince and cheese.
O.
Quite busy but good food and good service. I came here last year
P.
If you havnt eaten at Vivs... stop.. if your close and turn around.
Quality and consistency is on tap at Vivs.
I'm very fussy. Don't buy just at any old dirt Bakery.
I owned my own Bakery and can see the difference in the ingredients used ! Not to forget the good service. It could do with a slight tickle up but that's just being abit over fussy....
Vivs is very clean and worth going out of your way for a perfect Cream Horn.
O.
Quite busy but good food and good service. I came here last year
B.
Totally impressed and wished we lived nearby so we could frequent this amazing place. The ambience of Vivs Kitchen was amazing.
Very friendly staff, fabulous coffee and omg, the cream horns were divine!
R.
Great toasted sandwich and chips. Purchased 3 cream horns to share with our daughter when she arrives from Whangarei tonight. Viv's is always good to call into for a meal or a quick snack.
S.
Went for the famous cream horns and they are fantastic. The other food looked great too. Café is lovely and roomy with a great outdoor area for summer. Plus a play area for the children. Definite driving break next time we are out and about
R.
Beautiful little cafe, recommend 👌all the food we ordered was flavorsome and delicious 😋 try the cream horns, they are so good... the staff are amazing, definitely be our fav stop to fill the gap..
C.
Great place, food. Gets very busy. They are trying to follow the covid rules but are struggling. High customer turnover
L.
Just the best. The cream horns exceed expectation and thoroughly deserve their reputation, as does every other facet of this absolute gem of a place. I hope you can keep doing what you do for many years to come.
E.
Viv's kitchen not only serves the best cream horns but also the best pies. Called in on Sunday and had a Steak and Mushroom pie for lunch. It was jammed full with chunks of beef and lots of sliced mushrooms. Excellent value for money. Highly recommend trying one of their pies.
C.
Love the decor, although we were only passing through and tried the cream horn we will stop off here again and dine in. The cream horn was Soo good!
J.
A lovely place to stop. Extremely busy, but the staff are always friendly. The cream horns are to die for! If you buy them to takeaway, they pack them carefully into a recyclable cardboard box. The food is delicious and fairly priced. The meals are very generous. It has a lovely homely atmosphere, very welcoming on a cold winter's day. They have tables in the garden, which is especially lovely in the summer. A great place to stop for refreshments. Plenty of parking for all.
L.
Great place to stop. Plenty of parking, play activities for kids. Portion sizes good and prices great. Very clean toilets
N.
We always visit here when we drive up north. Loved the cream horns.
B.
OMG! Amazing!
I was a little bit iffy when I was reading the reviews cos you never quite know how good it really is... Well I can say hand on heart that this place rocks! Hubby n I had a steak and mushroom pie each and I could see the mushrooms! The cream horns are also truly full of fresh cream and your choice of the 6 flavours there will be something to tickle your taste buds.
I'm a bit fussy about my coffee but they nailed it first time round! A huge thumbs up to the whole crew. Thanks for a very enjoyable lunch 👍😋😊
S.
Been wanting to come here for years, was super busy but had great options for sitting outside.
In the running for 5 but was let down but the limited selection of savoury vegetarian food in the cabinets. Although had a toasty and it was fantastic. The coffee was also disappointing. The sweets were really great. The other thing I was disappointed which is the big reason to kissed the second star was the kitchen staff working without masks. Sitting outside we were able to see into a food prep area where staff were working without masks. Being a travellers hot spot I would expect restrictions to be taken seriously.
C.
Called in for the famous Cream Horn. Looks yummy. Very busy place. Popular so must be good. Certainly recommend.
P.

We were there yesterday at about 2ish, and there was still plenty of food.
We had cream horns of course, they are so good.
And I had a cheese roll which was just delicious.

A.
My journey back home to hamilton, Had to stop in to get a famous Cream Horn from Viv's Kitchen,. The shop was super busy, service was fast and the cabinets were continously restocked. Meals, pies and other cabinet food were available..single file along the cabinets, made it difficult to decide which flavour horn to choose....so i got 4 ....caramel, strawberry, chocolate, classic raspberry.....only the caramel made it home, the kids got a small bite each LOL.
Colourful decor seating outside and in...play area plus swings and plenty of shade to enjoy your cream horn!!!
Click on "Add stop "Viv's Kitchen, ..it's well worth your rest break.
S.
The best cream horns in NZ
J.
Good selection of food. Busy when visited and customers advised of wait time if ordering hot food. Recommended
D.
This place is so cool! A must visit on the drive past. Iconic.
S.
Superb Superb Superb! Definitely give the south island a run for its money! Fantastic service. If you're heading north (Movanners), park on the main road on the opposite side...much easier.
J.
Nice little café, iconic for their cream horns. A little bit pricey but the vibe in there takes you to some years ago.
K.
Quaint little cafe serving their popular cream horns. Very busy for Sunday brunch.

Everytime I pass through this area my dad tells me to stop here and everytime I say no. I have been stopping at this place for years. I keep forgetting how good the pies are. I always need a coffee and this place ticks that box. They have many flavours of cream horns as well. Are cream horns a thing in nz ?

A lovely little place to rest at on our travels.
V.
Very good cafe, excellent for travellers as on SH1 with good parking. Can park a 23 metre truck on road nearby or across the road usually. Good coffee and everything else I have had has been good. Had a bacon and egg croissant and came with side salad with yummy dressing at no extra cost. Quirky vintage or retro theme throughout. Only website seems to be a Facebook page, search on Vivs Sanson. Nice outdoor seating in park like setting and "Lickety Split" ice cream kiosk in front
j.
Be prepared to queue! It's popular! Cream horns caught my wife's fancy.
V.
Excellent friendly place. Not down that way much but will sure be calling in each time . Yummy

Always yummy food here. Made the old way. Toasted sandwiches are not thin with little filling. They are nicely toasted and plenty of filling. What you should expect.

What a cool cafe. We stopped in for coffee and just loved the look of this place. As a bonus the coffee was excellent as well the customer service. Well worth a stop - can be busy at times though.
B.
Food as it use to be....,and that's what they say as well. This is a very well presented American 60's styled cafe. Very well done from the furniture to the staff uniforms! Ohhhh and they provide great service and look like they are having fun.

Called in on the way through today 11 March 2021. Great place. Fantastic food. Awesome staff. Didn't try the cream horn but the breakfast pie was excellent. Thanks guys and gals. No wonder it's so busy.
S.
Cream cones fantastic so good well stop there again 😀😀😀
P.
What a lovely clean place. The food was wonderful. The cream horns just like mother used to make. Real cream, not the other stuff you find in so many places. Staff were friendly and the music was spot on. Will be back.
T.
This is the loveliest café! Obviously famous for the beautiful home baking and retro style, but the staff are such kind and cheerful people and nothing is too much trouble for them if you ask them something. I had a lovely old fashioned cheesecake here - haven't found one for years - and the tastiest quiche ever. My daughters enjoyed the creamy pastries. I am coming back and bringing my parents who will love it! Thank you Viv and team.
G.
The service here blew me away. I had one of their great cream horns (a delicious passion fruit one) in one hand and a hot coffee in the other and then Viv came v over straight away and kept the door open for me. And on top of that, they were busy. Can't beat that.
S.
Cream horns to die for! I had the passionfruit flavour, it was so good I had to take one home.
J.
Fantastic staff members awesome food excellent service every time we go. Love the cream horns. Exceptionally clean and ever improving premises and grounds. Viv's ethos towards her family of staff is second to None and this also goes for us the ever demanding public. We absolutely appreciate you all at Viv's Kitchen, you all give your best
C.

Needs 2 check outs. Not good standing around waiting in line amongst eating customers. Hardy enjoyable for them. Haven't tried the coffee because feeling too cramped to even consider it. Definitely need revamping
L.
Great place. Very friendly. Loved the lemon flavored cream horn. Nostalgia from my earlier days.
Stones in carpark, not easy for elderly with walkers.
D.
Visited for the cream horn and we weren't disappointed.
N.
Cream horns are fantastic. A must do stop in Sanson
T.
Cabinet food is great, meals not so much.
L.
Nice food, friendly, quick and efficient staff, but she ignored my friend and I had to ask in a firmer voice.
60's decor, busy little cafe, quite noisy.
S.
Very nice, good old fashioned generous portions of cakes, sandwiches and of course their famous cream horns, (all
homemade) the charming retro furniture inside the Cafe. Plenty of outside space and activities for young children to enjoy.
R.
Excellent staff, best cream horns ever
M.
This is our favorite place to stop on our travels. The staff are always ready with a smile when you walk in the door. We've recommended Viv's Kitchen to so many people and no one has come away disappointed. The food is great, the coffee is awesome and the cream horns, amazing!!! See you soon on our next road trip😊
J.
Bought 5 cream horns. Chocolate, caramel, boysenberry, passion fruit and lemon. The family says "wonderful", " very delicious ", " the best thing I have ever eaten". Cafe was very clean and staff helpful.
L.
Must stop place to fill up with c cream horn goodness
G.
Viv's Kitchen is not to be missed! With a very cool car done up outside we knew we were in for something a little bit special. Loved the atmosphere and sweet 50s decor from the moment we set foot inside.
The staff are friendly and accommodating and the food was exactly how it is described... "food the way it used to be"- comfort, delicious and well presented. The famous cream horns are exceptional and a must have!
We will be back every time we pass by now!
O.
Great cafe for having a bite and a drink.
J.
Had heard so much about these cream horns, had to take a drive and try one.
Okay, they are great, but so was the coffee and the chicken burger.
Will certainly return again.
I.
Very good service and lovely food as always, fast service
S.
Stopped in for coffee and small snack. At about 2:30pm not much left in the way of food. Coffee was average at best and louise cake wasn't much better. Fries that daughter ordered were nice though.
R.
Really good. Great food as well as the famous cream horn's. Only problem is it was really busy when we went but that's a small price to pay for great service and food.
P.
Very nice cinamin & cream cake with a mock.
J.
Well worth the drive. You just cant leave without having a cream horn.
J.
Great coffee, great service, nice setting - busy road but great play area for kids too. Cafe with a difference, definitely a cut above the other cafes Ive visited in NZ to date.
J.
Great food. Good service
C.
We had take away items, the 6 most popular sweet items in the cabinet. We were so impressed and pleased.
3 types of cream horns, chocolate, lemon and passipnfruit. They were fresh and crunchy, despite dropping by the cafe 1 hour before closing time. The apple slice was so delicious. The neenish tart was gorgeous and fresh. The Louise slice had a delicious thick base that was perfectly cooked.
We will definitely be back next time we're passing. We highly recommend this cafe.
Amazing ❤️
C.
Food wonderful, staff all smiles ,busy as all get out. Always worth the stop.
J.
Very busy but to be expected great food and excellent service

K.
What a selection of cream horns!! Can't remember the last time we had one if these. Nice lunch, friendly staff. Must bring our grandchildren here as there is a great play area for them.
P.
Lovely food and very good staff.
S.
An inviting and well thought 60’s themed decor, spotlessly cleaned and maintained, including the lavatory. Great coffee and an extensive choice of freshly made food. Friendly service from the front of house service. Large off road parking & fantastic fenced childrens outdoor playground. Thoroughly enjoyed our travel stop at Viv’s Kitchen, Sanson.
d.
An amazing gem of a cafe. Good food great coffee and friendly staff. The decor is remarkably interesting for a small cafe. Such detail and colour rarely seen in rural NZ the owners have paid alot of attention not only inside but pretty gardens and play area for the kids. Anyone visiting the area would be negligent for not trying the infamous cream horn.

We ordered hot drinks, 2x cheese rolls and 2x cream horns, all displayed and available in the cabinet.
Our hot drinks and cheese rolls were brought out to our table within 10 minutes, pretty impressive for a busy Sunday morning!
However, long after finishing our hot drinks and savoury food, the cream horns were nowhere to be seen. We were asked by numerous staff members if we were still waiting on food to which we said yes - but still, no cream horns in sight.
45 mins had now gone by since we had finished our drinks and cheese rolls, and we couldn't sit around waiting any longer as we had a schedule to keep.
I kept our place at the picnic table in the hopes the cream horns would finally show up, while my husband joined the queue to get to the cashier.
Cream horns never ended up arriving at our picnic table. After a good 10 mins hubby finally got to the top of the queue and the staff apologised and put the 2 cream horns in a takeaway box and we ate them in the car.....
:/
Yummy food but probably wouldn't go back due to the slack service.
R.
Absolutely wonderful. Fantastic food, cream horns like I remember from my childhood. 100% reccomend Viv,s. All the staff were happy and fr.
C.
Grew up around here. Viv's kitchen is amazing. Sorry for not closing the door to the horns. They melt in your mouth. Going back next time I'm down that way.
G.
Classic retro dinner. Very enjoyable atmosphere, great food.
S.

Really yummy cream horns. Very clean and nice staff. There is a place for the children to play and you can eat either inside or out.
K.
Many times we have passed by, that has been a big mistake.
We had a great breakfast in a loverly place.
Well done Viv's will make it our stop place instead if Hunterville, sorry Hunterville but you need to upgrade
C.
It was closed when I went there but love the cream horns
A.
Awesome burgers and will be back for the creme horns!
G.
How can you not stop here and enjoy the 1950s layout. Great food and a wide range of succulent food available. Don't forget to try the cream horns.
L.
Helpful staff, lovely cream horns, nice garden
r.
Saw they were famous for cream horns so went in. I was envisioning a completely different type of cream horn!!! Had one anyway and was yummy, and just as messy.
J.
Cream horns so yum
g.
Went to visit as sister in law raved about the cream horns. Enjoyed a pie, was unable to finish the horn as pie was so lovely and filling. Had a steak and mushroom.
D.
Famous for it's cream horns... and you won't be disappointed. Lot's of flavours to choose from and filled with fresh cream (and I mean filled). Nothing whipped out of a tin and no holes in the middle of your cream horn. They also have a lovely selection of delicious food and the cafe decor and atmosphere is fabulous. A great hot coffee and their regular comes in a super large cup, just as well I never asked for large! Always friendly staff, no matter how busy they are.
S.
Great food, and super friends service!
H.
Traditional backed goods in a 50s themed cafe. Found on the western entrance to Sanson, it is definitely worth the stop. They serve reasonably priced food and hsve a great variety of yummy food. The food is available either ready to eat or you can order off the menu. The staff were friendly and welcoming. You have to check out their legendary cream horns.
S.
Great coffee, delicious cream horns and cheese rolls. Friendly service and clean, cute 50s decor.
S.
Have you ever heard of cream horns? Yummy crispy things with creamy filling... If you want one and a great coffee to go with it - Viv's Kitchen is worth a try. They've got other food that looks really yum, too. Outside seating available. It's quite crowded on a weekend, though. Lots of parking available.
D.
Great 50/60's style decor. Basic but good food. Nicely renovated and upscaling of outside area so a really good spot to have a break with a young family
D.
Cream horns are definitely worth trying! Delicious. 175,000 sold to date! Great service, great prices and really yummy food. Totally recommend if you are passing through Sanson.
L.
Vivs kitchen is always has consistant quality food and coffee. Great service. Sold over 270,000 creamed horn's. Must stop, must.
J.
Cream horns. If you don’t try it, you are missing half of your life. So heavenly.
P.
If you are travelling through Sanson,
Viv's Kitchen is a "MUST DO".
I've been calling in for quite a few years, when I'm down from up North.
The food is amazing. Retro cafe style.
Awesome friendly staff, to boot!
You have to try the Pies, and if you are a "Sweet tooth", like me.
The famous Cream Horns and Chocolate Eclairs are to die for, as are their other treats. Oh, yummy!! I'm drooling, just thinking about it!!
Call in, I can assure you, you'll be glad you did.
Thank you, Viv's Kitchen.
R.
Who can resist the cream horns, especially the new lemon one
S.
Good pies. Friendly service. The famous cream horns are definitely not overhyped. I love the 60's theme, and some of the more old fashioned foods are cool to see. Eat here if you can.
s.
We love the creme horns (of course!) here. We visited on a busy Sunday afternoon, and the cabinet had been hammered before we got there, and there were limited seats available - I guess that points to the popularity of the place! 15YO was disappointed there was no ice cream in the iced chocolate, but that was the only disappointment.
I.
Great service. Yummy food and awesome chilled area.
E.
Wonderful cream horns & coffee. Tasty savories too. Very pleasant environment with a good playground outside.
J.
Not too bad. Very nice carrot cake
G.
Excellent coffee & food. Staff great. Was very busy this morning but worth the wait.
G.
Nice clean and quick with your order
J.
My husband and I called in for lunch. The service was amazing and as for the food it was absolutely gorgeous. The pastry was so light it was lovely. As for the Cream Horns they are unbelievable. I have never eaten anything like these before as they were just superb. This is one eatery everyone should call into as you cannot fault a thing and the food is out of this world. Thank you so much x x x
L.
Fantastic as usual. From Whitianga and try a visit each time we are in area. Haven't tried the cream horn yet but always the cheese roll and best coffee out
W.
Great friendlyservice. Fab food.
R.
Went there for the first time and from now on i'll be stopping there whenever i'm passing through. I ordered the big breakfast and it is the only advertised big breakfast i have ordered that i could not finish, i wanted to finish it as it was so yummy but just couldn't. I wish that i could give them 10 stars.
B.
That cream horn takes me straight back to my childhood 😁
G.
The cream horns live up to their reputation.
Also enjoyed the chicken+asparagus quiche - perfectly cooked. Highly recommended.
T.
This was a great casual place for a quick bite to eat. Themed as an old school diner, it was clean and there was plenty of room between the indoor and outdoor seating to have a snack with our three kids. Well known for their cream horns, this bakery style place offered an array of sweet goods, sandwiches and pies as well as good coffee. Plenty of outdoor seating and a play area for kids also.
S.
This place was lovely, very cool setting with great food. Found it very slow to get to the counter to pay, which was a bit frustrating, but otherwise will be back
m.
A family member told us about the old school kiwi cuisine including the famous cream horns, well they were more than right. Awesome collection of cabinet food including a South Island cheese roll! Was busy but plenty of parking and a nice area to run some energy off the kids outside
P.
Possibly the best cafe in New Zealand. Stop off every time we pass. Food is great (try the cheese roll) and the desserts are fab (have to try a cream horn). Staff are really nice and they play magic fm. Definitely recommend 🙂
d.
This place is good but service is slow
M.
Errare humanum est. To err is human.
As we all know, errors happen from time to time. The way a business deals with errors can set them apart from the rest.
Viv's kitchen is a perfect example where my order was mixed up and they have taken ownership and resolved the issue immediately. Great food and service.
D.
Freakin fabulous place . Busy but the service was quick and friendly. Great variety of food with good prices.
P.
Heard a lot of advertising. Decided to try it. We enjoyed the pies. Disappointed with the cream horn we shared. Pastry very thick and dry.
Tried and shared other cakes. Drinks fine. Will return.
c.
Lovely fresh interior design. Beautifully presented food. My Dad loved his cheese roll.
But sadly only 1 gluten free option . Coffee was good
M.
Fantastic fresh cream horns, friendly laid back staff and great, clean and well thought out decor. Definitely worth repeating! Highly recommend.
K.
Cream horns are to die for. Always clean busy and friendly service Awesome outdoor spaces to if you have children or if its a nice dat..
B.
Must be good. It was to busy to get into
S.
I have been meaning to stop here for ages. Finally did. The place is so cute. The food delicious
M.
Delicious breakfast in a retro interior. Worth a stop.
R.
A great little place with good food in an interesting retro environment. Can't think of anywhere better to stop in Sanson!!
K.
I've heard lots of great things about Viv's Kitchen. My mother raves about this place, and recommended I try their famous cream horns. So I did, along with a mince and cheese pie, and an iced chocolate. The mince pie was meaty and cheesy but too salty for my preference and a little flavourless. A bit of beef stock would go a long way there. The iced chocolate was chocolatey and creamy. It was surprisingly good, however, I was disappointed to be given a plastic straw. Lastly, I tried their raspberry cream horn. It was average, to say the least. The pastry was dense and the cream was really only to be found at the top, where the pastry was thiner. I don't know, maybe they had a bad day, or maybe my well travelled taste buds just didn't like it. But I can say with certainty that I won't be back for a cream horn anytime soon.
d.
On a recent trip north was on our list of to do. Was even better than expected. Food was amazing, staff were fabulous and it was so clean. A definite stop off if passing
p.
A special place, the cream horns are delightful, but O, the potato top pies!! 😋😋😋
j.
Place to go for those creamed horns. Old fashioned cafe dining with top notch food! Always a destination when travelling Napier to Wanganui.
D.
Just a great place to stop into for a bite to eat (the pies are packed with filling yum). Great kids play area. Highly recommend.
J.
To die for! Great food and coffee. will defo stop again next time we pass through:)
Y.
Simply delicious and awesome place!
C.
Huge breakfast and very tasty.
W.
The staff are always friendly. Coffee and food are great. I look forward to going back. The workers outside were doing an artwork that turned out to be a children's playground ground cover.
K.
Excellent experience as always. Clean cafe, friendly staff and great food. Highly recommended.
P.
Of all the places we have been for breakfast this is my favourite so far. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by friendly staff who then took our order which arrived barely a minute after we sat down. The breakfast eggs Benedict was delicious and a large meal and the hot chocolates were great. 5 stars for sure!
B.
What an awesome place!
It's like walking into another era.
The staff are wonderful dressed in the era.
Food is fresh and delicious as well as filling.
Prices are well within the budget.
I love this place to the point I've visited just to experience the ambience and enjoy the food. This drive is half an hours drive that I happily enjoy time and time again.
🍰☕

D.
I felt l had experience living in the past I t was wonderful !!! Food was delicious colour.they really made it that you we living in past. town nice to stroll and relaxing well done sason enjoyed my day
S.
Novel use of coleslaw on the $7 cheeseburger rather than the typical tomato lettuce pickle, but the buns were good and incorporating onion in the patty was tasty. Overall a great burger. The coffee was slow... again.
J.
Cute local kitchen and very nicely presented. Clean, friendly and good food quality. Dressed up as an old school dinner and even the waitresses do so. Very well maintained with garden and kids play ground and heaps of seating and hidden benches.
C.
Great big breakfast, well known for cream horns, trendy 60s furniture and setting, a must stop if passing through Sanson
V.
Love this place.....the atmosphere ,theme and the food is really good there Creams Horns are delicious.
K.
Gorgeous 50s decor, friendly, fast and efficient service, great food and oh my! Those legendary cream horns are every bit as good as their reputation.
G.
This place is brilliant. Great decor. Delicious food. Their famous cream horns are incredible. Well worth the visit
C.
Good plentiful food, and a great choice of cream horns. These must be tried!
J.
The cheese roll was very nice. Came with a small side salad. The frittata was also very nice and came with a small salad also the lemon slice tasted home baked and tasty. Only thing was the chocolate milkshake was a bit weak on the chocolate flavouring but it still had a good consistency to it
J.
Excellent, friendly service. The food is great and their signature cream horns are delicious naughtiness.
D.
Awesome food, and my wife is absolutely crazy about their cream horns, will definitely be making it a regular visit when travelling.
B.
The cream horns were delishes would recommend more than one, room to park 2 x 7 meter motorhomes, easy access in and out. Worth the stop.
N.
Had lunch there last week. Very good prices and plenty to choose from especially their beautiful cream horns which unfortunately I had no room for this time around. Very welcoming if you have children with you. Please call in if you are driving through Sanson you will be warmly welcomed.
J.
Awesome cream horns which were up to expectations.
Due to COVID level 2 social distancing there was insufficient seating available, and it was appreciated this was beyond managements control
P.
Clean and very tidy a great place for a stop
E.
Arrived at a very busy time, but were served quickly. Well priced and tasty food. Staff attentive. Would definitely go again.
S.
Wow. What great food. The cream horns are famous but we did not know that when we stopped on our way south. Great atmosphere. Very busy. Worth a visit.
B.
Get here early. One day they will run out of Cream Horns as every time I go there the place is busier than ever. Don't like Cream Horns - No Worries. The other food here is up to international standards. A MUST VISIT.
A.
Quick service considering it was packed. Friendly staff as well. Bright and clean premises.
G.
Very popular cafe on SH 1 at Sanson. Famous for it’s cream cones - over 100,000 sold so banner outside shop said - but comfy 60’s style interior and outside patio. Best of all great food and great team staff.
m.
Great 60s feel, and yummy food, my family love the cream horns
I.
Lovely place. Lovely food. Looks like a thriving business.
Looking forward to the cream puffs later.
C.
Great food, busy staff and great decor including picture of Viv's mother☺ can't wait for the next road trip past here
R.
Lovely and clean, friendly staff, beautiful fresh food, good coffee and of course the cream horn was delicious.
H.
It would be fair to say that today I found a gem, returning from Bulls I called into Viv's Kitchen and what a delightful place to stop for a drink and a bite to eat.
Its styled to late 50's mid 60's reminiscent of a milkbar/diner.
My mince and cheese savoury was probably the nicest I've ever had; but the cream horn took me straight back to when I was a youngster at Whittens tearoom in Pukekohe.
Amazing service, lovely staff, a great selection and a constant stream of patrons.
Definite recommendation.
M.
Great little retro cafe known region-wide for their cream horns. Yum! Lovely outside space with play area for the children. Worth a visit.
A.
The food was nice. The coffee we ordered was forgotten until other customers came in and the barrista went to the machine and saw our order. However the big downer was the fact that no staff member smiled at us. Only in the kitchen at each other. All I got was a half grin when I thanked the server for bringing my order. That really makes for a depressing meal.
S.
Have been a few times and couldnt fault anything! Our favorites are the cream horns, eggs Benedict and the big breakfast! Great service too :)
w.
Awesome food great staff
D.
Lovely 50 - 60s style cafe in Sanson you must visit! Great food and coffee. Cream cornet cone speciality for a sweet treat! Highly recommend for your food / coffee stop on your travels!
l.
Rock and roll music, great service and yummy food. We will go again soon.
C.
Set back in the fifties it’s like going back in time.Although there is no red leather seating or girls on skates. However the staff are dressed for the era.I did find inside quite stuffy no open windows and yet it was a beautiful day.Outside is relaxing with a playground for children. There is an additional building for Lickity split icecream with deck chairs very fifties and keeping with the theme. The cream horns and matchbox slice are deliciously wicked and filling.Value for money and milkshakes premium.
The toilets are clean.
Worth stopping for a break.
R.
Great chips, fresh tasty cones.
More 60s music to fit decor.
Yum yum, thank you.
S.
Decent priced food and friendly staff who will happily make a joke with the visitors
Good quality and all made onsite. Wide range of stuff available, hot and cold. Make sure you save room for a cream horn though!
J.

We call in on our way north sometimes 4 times a year, & have never been disappointed. Friendly staff & lovely food, and always spotlessly clean. Rex
Z.
Have changed my review from 5 star to 4 star. Was so yum the first time when we had it, delicious creamy cream, and the jam in side was the perfect amount, and a yummy crispy horn pastry.
My friend made a road trip to wellington and on their way back they stopped over to get some for all of us. As we loved the ones last year December. They cream didnt taste the same like the recipe has changed and there was very little jam inside could hardly taste it.
Wondering if the chef has changed?
Still nice, and will definately come past on our next road trip
H.
Delicious cream horns which you can have in a variety of flavours. I enjoyed a raspberry one.
R.

M.
Delicious meal.the cream horn....YUM!!.great service an atsomphere.... loved the bee!!
R.
I shall start by saying the cream horns were amazing and worth stopping just for that. If i was to write a review for just that i would give a 5 out of 5.
However we stayed for food, however we stayed for food. Whilst what we had was good there were next to no options for vegetarian. If you only eat free ethically sourced food it ruled out 80% of the menu. So the answer was a no to free range bacon, eggs, chicken. etc.
The final disappointment was the high level of single use plastics. For a nostalgia cafe glass (or even the glass bottles as in the display) for the water would make a huge difference.
For these reason I lowered the score to 3 out of 5.
M.
Quick, friendly service with a wide variety and good home style meals. A must stop when passing through.
H.
Not bad been to better places
M.
