Had the Hotcakes after hearing good things and wasn't disappointed, they tasted great. I also had a good decaf latte and the Mrs had a vanilla slice which was also decent. A great place for brunch in Upper Hutt. My only suggestion would be to offer a few choices on the hotcake fillings, maybe a savoury option. Good stuff

Always a well sorted breakfast menu, good service and well laid out. This visit was during Level 2 Delta and the business owner has to reduce his seating capacity by 30% and apply many complex MofH rules for much less profit. The traditionally smoked Salmon and poached eggs was superb as were the coffee and Pancakes. Highly recommended and excellent customer service.

Excellent hot cakes every time, soft, sweet, caramelised nuts and fruity filling. Delicious breakfast tacos packing flavour and thankfully not spice in the morning. Always a good strong flat white here. Service is always pleasant and welcoming. Great selection of cabinet food also.

A nice cafe at a great location..Located right opposite to Upper Hutt station. . Great coffee n the hot cakes are a must try though the wait time might be long during weekends..Worth it

Fantastic food, great service, incredible bustling atmosphere even on a Wednesday morning! Had the Smashed Avocado and frankly I'd even go as far as to say it's the best I've ever had! Amazingly flavoursome, and filled me right to the brim. One of the shining stars of Upper Hutt that you just HAVE to visit!

With a style to rival big city landmarks, Cake & Kitchen should be a favourite. The cabinet food all looks too tempting, so decisions will have to be mood driven. Great choice of less ordinary savoury and sweet options, like the yummy lamb half moon, will satisfy everyone in a brunch party. The menu offers comfortable familiars but champions a few more original options - the breakfast tacos (very on trend) are beautifully presented with movie-quality fried eggs and flavourful salsa. Cake & Kitchen is a place for people who revel in good flavours. Come hungry.

Delicious breakfast!! The avocado smash was excellent! So much delicious avocados and yummy seasoning. The fried halloumi was just a perfect kicker. SO GOOD.

Wow!!! The service, vibe and food is amazing here! Coffee is excellent too - but only wee thing is my own personal flavour preference; it is made absolutely perfectly! Anf that vege scroll? You gotta try it! ❤️

Great place to come for a lazy breakfast, or bring a laptop and plug away at some work while having a coffee. Nice relaxed atmosphere and fantastic service. Its a small menu but everything on it is extremely good. The cabinet has a selection of tasty treats as well, love the chorizo bagel. They serve up excellent coffee as well.

The atmosphere is great and it has a good menu, but the serving system is really bad when it's busy. Instead of keeping someone at the counter taking orders when there's a queue, they have the counter person also assisting with plating etc, so while in the queue you end up stood waiting a really long time. There's a big gap between taking the order of the person in front of you and taking your order. What made this longer was some people queued out the door and some queued inside (a queue with 2 tails). This meant about 4 people inside skipped ahead of me (I was outside). I wish I had been more confident to say I had queued first, but either way the queue system forces you to tell people not to cut in line or have people cut in front. I don't mind waiting at my table for food and drink when they're busy, but I do mind being forced to stand for an unnecessarily long time when they could instead take all our orders asap and let us take a seat while we wait. Outside that the food and coffee are good.

Service is not the best. Order long black with hot water on the side, had to go back for the hot water. Nor a large variety on the menu. Could not get my own build. Addon prices are not reasonable.

Anna and team are amazeballs. Made this cake for our son. Everything i envisioned and some. Supa delicious and tasted what it looks like. Chocolate and banana..yummo!! Supa impressed as this was done via phone and email as i was in Tauranga. Anna did so well to create this..Viewed and picked up on the day of birthday. So talented! Thank u Anna and team. :))

Cake and Kitchen is the best café in Upper Hutt, in my opinion. Great cabinet and menu food, caters safely for vegetarian dairy free and gluten free! When I ordered a gluten free item I was asked 'is this item for anyone who is completely gluten free?''. Usually at other places, its far more abrupt and seems to annoy staff when requesting dietary requirements. Such a wonderful service, always polite and friendly and go the extra mile!!! Highly recommend!

Although I haven't been here much I still have been here a few I still fell obligated to review. 3/5 stars because i have enjoyed all the food here but i still found it a bit hard to order, might just be me but I had trouble ordering but it's okay because I enjoyed my meals

had a not so quick stop, to grab a coffee and a bite. Coffee was great. the sandwich took a while to make it from the counter over to our table. but was delicious as well. the place was really crowded and I guess probably due to the structure, felt really really loud and warm. so felt a bit unrelaxing unfortunately. but overall a nice place for a stop.

A great place isn't just about the food it's the people as well. At Cake and Kitchen you get good food and genuine people who are great to talk to. Hard to choose between the delicious menu and cabinet food. Everything is hand made and it tells in the end result. We are really lucky to have this cafe in walking distance from home.

Favourite local cafe. Friendly staff, amazing food and coffee and great atmosphere. Coffee is on point every time. Great gluten free selection. Their GF scones taste almost identical to their non GF, my usual go to with a coffee. Cold brew is a must try in summer. The hot cakes are to die for (sadly no GF option) but if gluten is not an issue you neeeed to try them, such a fluffy dreamy experience. Haven’t tried a single dish or cabinet item I haven’t enjoyed. 100% recommended

Absolutely delicious. Had brunch here and while there was a bit of a wait (it was super busy) the food was worth waiting for. Had the smashed avo with dukkah and added mushrooms - super tasty and the portion size was really generous.

Fab staff, beautiful food, gluten free options... loved the decor, the 'bar style seating down middle of care with normal dinning tables at far end. Also outside options. Decaf coffee was awesome. A definite visit repeat looming !

This place is awesome. The food here is very nice especially their cheese scones which they toast and then lash with butter. Feeling hungry yet? Good quality coffee as well. The inside of the cafe is nicely done although the street outlook is not great but can’t be helped. Staff are friendly. Note that it does get busy at times especially at the weekends.

Amazing cafe. First visit. The BEST SAVOURY PIN WHEEL I HAVE EVER HAD HANDS DOWN!!! And I've had a few. Blue cheese and bacon.... toasted with lashings of butter. Amazing staff and Richard the owner... what a man!!! Thanks Cake & Kitchen ... can't wait to visit again.

Fantastic breakfast and lunch food, as well as amazing cakes, healthy, generous portions, great presentation of the food as well. Staff seen very motivated and interested in being there quick is great to see, and adds to the enjoyment of being there. Have been over 5 times now and seems pretty consistent, definitely be coming back!

Sooooo good here. We were in on the weekend and didn't realise until we ordered that they were closing up the kitchen early to renovate, but all the staff were onto it, and super friendly even though I'm sure they were stressed. Had the big breakfast, it was amazing. The potato hash with the cabbage on top was just divine, and I'm not usually a huge fan of cabbage. Love the set up too!

Best brunch place in Upper Hutt. Other folks have recommended the hot cakes (rhubarb) and I do too. Full breakfast is also very excellent with great baked beans. The food is presented with flair. It's a very popular place so you may need to share your table.

Really happy to have found this place in the Upper Hutt. Decorated in tasteful hipster and retro you can find a counter bar full of billowing sandwiches and decadent desserts as well as the kiwi stronghold, the cheese scone. The barista gets their own servery window so getting a takeaway coffee wont take long. Staff are so friendly and customer focussed. Smashed avocado and green smoothie is on the menu so I'm happy. Am enjoying the music this morning.

(Translated) I had pancakes, slices and flat white. The pancakes were really fluffy and crispy around me, but it's too sweet for me to eat a bite. It was that kind of feeling. The part with rhubarb was sour and just right. (Original) パンケーキ、スライス、フラットホワイトをいただきました。パンケーキはすっごくふわふわで周りはカリカリでよかったのですが、わたしには甘すぎて一口食べてもういい。という感じでした。ルバーブの入ってた部分は酸味もあって丁度いい具合でした。
