B.Honestly a great example of how a proper New Zealand Coffee show should look and operate. We had awesome service from the moment we walked in, great food and decent coffee. The service was noticeably attentive and quick. The food was thought about and simple done really well is what it's all about for me. Would go here again when in Wellington. Tops!

A.Used to be THE place in wellington. Still good for beans, and has a repair shop for coffee equipment, but the cafe itself feels tired and dark. Mostly filled with people who have never gone anywhere else
T.We were in Wellington at the weekend and were taken here for breakfast on Saturday morning. There was a wait for a table (about 15 mins) but definitely worth the wait! Best eggs Benedict we've ever had. So good that we went back Sunday to have it again (another 15 min wait for a table). The wait to get a table is a sure sign that this is a place you need to go to. A well-oiled machine with a cool vibe and friendly staff. Loved the decor too.
s.A great bustling environment, this place is popular because its popular. Unfortunately the food is done as simply as possible, leaving little room for error or taste. Which is a pity, not up to Italy standard, let alone Wellington. I'd go back for coffee and cabinet food, but won't will definitely be saying ciao Bella to the a la carte menu. Buon apetito
P.Beautiful eggs Benedict. Cooked perfectly, the salmon was fresh. I also had an earl grey tea which was very good. Excellent customer service, nice and friendly environment. The best way to start your day.

J.Nice enough meal but nothing extraordinary. The waiting staff were good, apart from the arrogant knob who decided to have a 5min chat with his friend while supposedly finding us a table and then dismissed my approach and carried on chatting when I was asking if he'd forgotten us. In the meantime other customers who arrived after us had the good fortune to be served by someone else and where shown a table before our guy deemed us worthy of his attention.... Luck of the draw I suppose

A.We had an Amazing server, Annalise, she is an absolute asset to cafe l'affare, and took the time out to make sure we were leaving happy customers, also she was very helpful when we had a wee hiccup with our order and put everything right within mere moments. I throughly recommend this company and there supreme coffee and service, well done employing Annalise she is definitely well worth every cent she is paid and more, I look forward to visiting again when we are up from Nelson next. L.Super busy cafe in the weekends, didn't have to wait too long for a table. Staff were efficient. Eggs Florentine on hash brown was okay, spinach was stringy and hash browns were soggy, Hollandaise was so so. Hot lemon honey and ginger was excellent.

S.Friendly and prompt service. Good atmosphere. Good food and coffee. I have the filter coffee (cup of excellence) which was delicious. Eggs Benny was pretty good. And the halloumi Caeser salad was great. The only issue I had was the only baby change table was in the female toilets which was annoying that I was stopping any females from using the facilities when I had to use it for our son.

A.Coffee is second-to-none. Counter food is awesome and the breakfast options are great too. Best of all, I like the atmosphere: It's not too crowded and there's no blaring music. Servers are attentive. Hard to fault the place, really!

S.Obviously the coffee is amazing, but what might be less well known is their smoked salmon which is I believe made by them and is the best I've ever tasted. They have also done a good job of making a large space inviting and appealing.
D.Nice and open cafe with super friendly staff. Really enjoyed the bottomless filter coffee - ‘Honduras’ blend. Really nice waitress was kind enough to write down the tasting notes too and wasn’t upset when we asked for some milk on the side.

While the breakfast menu is quite small, the food was really yummy, the eggs Benedict were perfect, the buns very fresh.My coffee was a tad cold though, and I wouldn't expect that from THE cafe of a well-known national coffee producer. The heavy unheated cups probably cool down the coffee too quickly. I've been offered a refund or a new coffee.So this was a mixed experience...

A.I hadn't been here for a while, so I was pleasantly surprised to find they have refurbished the place. It is looking much better now, and, most importantly, the service and food is still just as great as it always used to be. This place has been operating for many years, I think it set the standard for an excellent large cafe when it opened, and I'm pleased to see that it has kept that up. It's a great place to meet and eat with friends.
J.Delicious hakanoa chai and massive slices! Might I say, the chocolate brownie with a spot of yoghurt hit the spot perfectly! The brownie had a delightfully crunchy top (not too thick, not too thin) and a wonderfully moist centre 👍 Would I go here again? Absolutely 🙂

M.Pretty average food with an overdone potato waffle that cost an additional $4. And as for the toilets ... really? One women's, one men's, certainly no wheelchair access... how is that legal for such a large establishment. And waited in the cold, shed-like structure with six others. Not pleasant.

A.A Wellington institution and well worth visiting. Staff are pleasant, engaging and plentiful. A reasonable selection of food and the coffee is consistently good. The house made black pudding is the best I have ever had and well worth trying. A great place to check out Rocket coffee machines and accessories.
S.Love the make over of l'affare! It's now brighter and lighter inside with lots more room. The counter and menu options for food are great and is now one of my regular coffee meet spots. The menu allows you to build your own breakfast which is great when you want a change

J.Great food and coffee. But can be very busy and there's often a wait on menu food. But the cabinet food is quick. More space since their recent upgrade in May 2018. One of the oldest cafes in Wellington and part of the cafe-culture.
M.Love the food and love the coffee. Can be very busy on Saturdays and you may have to line up for a table but there are so many tables they will get you seated in no time. The pancakes are superb and I love that they give you a sante bar for your mocha! Also they will give you soy milk or almond milk at no extra cost!
P.Decent enough service but disappointing coffee selection. For a place with such pedigree and so many amazing different brewing methods on show and beans for sale they offeres only a single 'house blend' made by espresso machine. Was looked at like a space alien when inquired if they had a pour over available...not a strange request in a coffee shop.

L.This place should be on your must-go coffee places in Wellington. The atmosphere is great and the coffee is superb. Quite busy on weekend mornings but the staff is always smiling and with a impeccable disposition. Food is glorious, definitely worth getting up in the morning for a bite out.
W.Very big space, does feel a little soulless but it was quite empty when there and the industrial decor is just part of the look. Good simple menu, done well and for me was very fast. Wait staff weren't super friendly for me, but not rude.

I am not sure about their new take on a pancake. I preferred the original, just will give that a miss next time

G.We came in with the kids today and probably wouldn't take them back. For adults, the place is great, but there are too many issues with service for children and much better options for them nearby.
Our kids may be fussy, but the kids menu didn't really interest them and the garnishes were off-putting when the food arrived. We'd also asked about getting the banana-berry smoothie as just banana and were told that was fine. What came out had cranberry juice added, which was rejected on sight. Swapping for kids just doesn't work.
Finally, the path to the toilet is long, poorly sign posted and has several escape paths to unsafe spaces. Not for kids prone to exploring.

L.We had a better experience this time than a few years ago. The place is a lot brighter, food better and staff is more pleasant. We like how there is plenty of space between tables.

K.Unfortunately, I do think this is one of Wellingtons more overrated restaurants. Popular for brunch on weekends, it's always super busy and a bit chaotic inside. The food is tasty but nothing special - just your standard brunch stuff. Best part is obviously the coffee, which is roasted onsite (or at least very nearby). Pretty pricey too.

S.I like the service and the coffee but 3 stars from me because of super stingy bandwidth allocation they give with WIFI only 0.5mbps yuck! a business like that can very easily afford a Unlimited 1Gbps UFB connection with out even flinching so there is no excuse for this. I would like to sit there for longer periods of time to work and drink their coffee but its usually just a quick pop in because of this.

J.Coffee is always beautifully made and hotter than average cafes which is absolutely brilliant. I wouldn't say it's my go to bit you can't really fault them!
B.All aspects are good. You won't easily be disappointed. The mocha with a bar of chocolate and marshmallows is a nice treat.
J.Jan2016 update: once they get hold of you, its friendly service that works. But a coordinated would help keep the staff squared away. It's attentive but seemingly casual that this place used to have and needs to get back to. Just look at how PreFab runs and you hv it in a nutshell.
Food menu has sharpened/reduced to a tidy well presented one pager and the coffees are good.
Jan2014 update: taken away the great big table from near window. Replaced the cool wall with brown plain plywood featureless substitute. Still lots of staff with a lack of awareness of the customers. Waited ages, then in a bored manner "do you need anything?" .. Yea a menu and coffee and if you throw in some service I won't Review... Oh wait, to slow.
2013: Not that its anything but popular still, as it is! But... well this place used to be side bumping full and still manage to see to orders, get a coffee to you just as you sat down, etc. Now, well it can be so useless that the staff can forget entire tables in the area. Even wave happily to groups as they leave not realising - they arepissed with not even being seen! On flipside staff now call people sir and mam as if they've had politeness training. Why? Staff have always been lovely. Its not a mitchelin star restaurant, they wouldn't miss entire tables!
Food however is still good, solid and consistent. Long as that doesn't charge I guess it will always be full.

K.This place is always super busy in the weekend, which must mean they're doing something right :) Have eaten here twice or so, which was delicious, but usually go for a takeaway caffeine shot - so I never have to wait too long for my TFW.
D.They forgot my order which was grilled portobello mushroom salad with haloumi. I found it to be a bit too salty (considering that the (salty) haloumi portion was quite generous). The nice male waiter apologized profusely about the lo g delayand I had my cappucino on the house. I didn’t expect it but it was a nice gesture...
