Reviews of Lamason Brew Bar
P.
Came here on a recommendation from a mate. No idea what to expect but this is a great spot.
The baristas are friendly and greet their locals as they enter, there's cool coffee equipment too.
I got a watercress scone (usually a cheese scone kinda guy) and was amazed. Crumbly and fluffy in a good way. They recommended it toasted with butter. It was slightly sweet too.
Please come here!
B.
I was skeptical when my flatmate recommended Lamason to me because I know a few other great coffee places in town and I didn't think anything could top them, but now it's my favourite! The coffee never disappoints, the staff are friendly, the scones are sensational (plus toasted and buttered for you) and it's perfectly hidden away so you can enjoy the Wellington vibe without having to shout over the hustle and bustle of the city. My only complaint is that I have to find somewhere else to go when they're closed on Sundays :(
W.
One of the best cafe in town 🙌 tried the Ethiopian Guji in siphon and in love with it! Staffs are amazing, energetic and welcoming! Great place to hang out with the lovely ambience. Definitely will come back
N.
cosy little cafe hidden in CBD, love sitting at the bar watching siphon making ! Staffs are very professional and introduce beans from different region. Great spot to chill with tasty siphon coffee in town.
N.
Tucked away its kinda my secret. My stop for my coffee fix, whenever im in town, small but ambience and cozy. The guy's make excellent coffee im a fussy girl when it comes to coffee so getting 5stars always is hard place to find. And the toastie are gooood 😋. ~Nara
F.
Perfect little Wellington cafe! Friendly staff, great food and a cosy atmosphere.
D.
It was my first time to visit Welly and I immediately headed down to what I’ve heard is one of the best cafes in the city... and I wasn’t disappointed!
Amazing coconut flat white, delicious bacon and egg toastie, friendly baristas, quick service—such a great first impression of #windyWelly 😊
L.
Some of the best coffee in Wellington. This relaxed little hole in the wall will certainly have a bean to suit your tastes.
J.
A great place to chill out or catch up with friends over a high quality coffee.. a variety of blends and single-originals to choose from. If you’ve never had siphon coffee and wanted to try, then this is the place for it. Make sure you spend a moment to enjoy it though!
D.
In my humble opinion, this is easily the top 3 coffee shops in town though the barista claims to be the best ! A true barista experience with very friendly service. It’s one of those coffee shops where the baristas know the name of the regular customers 🙌. Had the siphon coffee and it was a very clean cup of coffee. They use People’s coffee beans and would recommend trying their filter coffee as there are more selection of beans.
P.
Some like to say that you never grow old if you manage to learn something new every day. A lesson for today is the black magic of coffee making with a help of siphon bulbs. Guatemalan bean did it for me, now I am believer.
Cool vibe and friendly staff complement the perfect coffee.
M.
First place I’ve been to that does siphon coffee as a standard option! Definitely the most reasonably priced siphon I’ve had as well. The staff know their stuff when it comes to coffee and can recommend the choice of bean for your coffee.
Great spot to chill out and enjoy a quality brew.
O.
An easy 5 stars. Effortless, you might say. Managed to strike the balance between being awesome and being down to earth. They explained the many coffee options in a friendly way then absolutely nailed the oat cappuccino. So perfectly creamed. Maybe the best we've had globally so far. The BLT was a pleasant little bit of my childhood which unlike cream eggs and tip top, has remained delicious and even better than I remembered. Thank you team. 😁
A.
Calm coffee shop down Lombard at, an alley in Central Wellington. Great single origin coffees (Ethiopian Guji and others). Normal espresso service, but good pour overs and syphons as well. Wifi, snacks, all in all an excellent spot.
A.
Great coffee with espresso and soft brew options (syphon and v60) as well as cold drip. The best scones in town and the friendliest team n town. They're great.
近.
Great quality of coffee!!!!
i could relax so much.

popular coffee shop in wellington!
S.
Amazing Cafe in Wellington! You couldn't imagine how excited I was when I saw siphon coffee in NZ!Siphon Coffee is very popular in Shanghai and Japan, you can taste very special flavor in Siphon wiz different coffee beans. Guji is one of my favorite(and also want to drink Yirgacheffe🙈)Piccolo and Americano is also pretty good!Baristas are friendly and energetic!
e.
Truly the best coffee I have had in Wellington. I moved jobs so I could be closer to La Mason.
M.
Really friendly staff and top quality coffee
T.
Excellent inner city vibe and coffee. Know how to pull a shot and deliver great Single-O siphon. If I lived here, this would be my daily go-to 100%
C.
Controversial debate but Best Scone/Coffee combo in all of Wellington
P.
Highly recommend this place. Great coffee and yummy toasti👌
B.
Amaaaazing coffees !!! Was right behind the place I stayed it Te Aro. So got the usual coffee and was blown away by the craft they do. Would recommend anyway !!
P.

D.
Wonderful service, great coffee, sodas and amazing scones!!! So worth finding!
P.
The hidden gem of the best made coffee in the country! Seriously GOOD coffee. Always Friendly service & Banging chooons playing in the background. Whenever in town, this is a must to pop for a super good coffee. Go there !!
S.
Each time I return to Wellington this place never fails to deliver the finest coffee in town. And the folks behind the counter create a fun atmosphere as an added bonus. Don't think twice...just go there!
J.
Best coffee in town and the nicest staff, super friendly. Found my new regular!
r.
Can never go wrong with a Coffee from Lamason, top quality and consistency. Give the Syphon coffee a try whilst here. A chill and friendly vibe.
M.
Great coffee... Recommended
A.
Excellent coffee and knowledgeable staff. We had the single origin from Ethiopia and it was outstanding. If you want good coffee go here and enjoy, been to a few other spots in Wellington and none live up to this place. Cool vibe and artwork and options for indoor or outdoor seating. Get a V60 and enjoy the flavours to come!
L.
Great experience and first time of tasting the amazing coffee. The staff are super friendly and helpful. I will definitely go back and would recommend to others.
A.
My favourite coffee in Wellington. Right up there next to Peoples Coffee on Constable Street in Newtown.
Lamasons staff are hilarious, and their soy flat whites are perfectly made.
Great vibe, and superb flavours.
K.
A beautifully bitter brew. Just what is needed to get through the day. Nothing fancy here, just damn good coffee.
K.
Great cafe and awesome service, they deal with large coffee orders like total pros!
P.
One of my favourite coffee bars in Wellington. Best variety, and some of the best coffee around. You can't go wrong with people's coffee. In a convenient, location, it's warm and comfortable, perfect for a cold winter's day.
L.
consistently magnificent coffee. good vibe. Small cafe. have been many times and will always go back. definitely recommend to a friend
I.
Great new small and cosy cafe in a newly developed lane in the city centre with some outside seating options.
Super friendly barristas who brew the most awesome coffee/ flat white. The artistic creamy milk patterns on the flat white are a work of art and surprising every time. Best in town!!
The only thing I miss is the lack of choice of delicious cakes and other more sophisticated sweeties to go with my coffee. Could do with some savoury bar food too.
M.
Take enjoy the energy of the baristas and the coffee is impeccable. The toastys are right up there as well. Very enjoyable
P.
Excellent boutique coffee. Friendly, savvy staff. Try the cold-press - think of it like wine tasting.
H.
Wow. Despite heavy rain and wind, I don’t regret making myself to this place today. I would say that this place is the coolest and best cafe in Wellington with 3 ‘cool’ baristas 😎. Excellent service and coffee. This place is a must visit for coffee mania. In addition to perfect espresso latte art, there’s also specialised coffees like cold brew, V60 and siphon coffee. The $8 toasted Sandwich of the day changes daily, while offering homemade(?) scones, buns and muffins on the cabinet. They use finest milk alternatives - vita soy and barista almond breeze. Limited seating but for the space it’s reasonable and not too crowded. High seatings and outside seating available. A must visit for everyone. Thank you and keep up your #1 coffee!
K.
Love Lamason for every single aspect.
Is there any other cafe closes to Lamason?
NO! Not even one.
I started to visit Lamason since 2015 and it is definitely the best cafe in Welly, which is serious about making every single cup of coffee. Lamason has the best consistency in Welly.
It is the only place gathering and retaining passionate, knowledgeable, positive, communicative, efficient and professional baristas (every member of the team) and owner.
It is the only cafe I recommend to friends who are truly passionate about coffee and they all love it.
It does not matter whether you love milk coffee or specialty coffee, just give a try in this most "non-commercial" cafe in Welly.
R.
Nice venue, fun, friendly, happy staff. Great coffee.
I had the Columbian single O syphon, as recommended by the fella on the till. Perfect filter style coffee with all those beautiful oils kept in it, much like the Mojo Coffee Steampunk method.
My partner had a cow milk late which she also described as really lovely.
Didn't try any food but it smelt great. Hopefully some vegan options though right guys? ;)
E.
Tasty coffee, friendly staff and delicious scones. Recommend the watercress and cheese scone, or an iced coffee with one of the many different milk alternatives they offer.
L.
One of the best coffee in town. Great place, but coffee first!
S.
What can I say about this place (other than the fact that some of these negative reviews I've been reading are absolutely asinine)?
Having just moved to the city, I've been trying to find "my" cafe: one with amazing coffee, good people, a nice ambiance, and somewhere I can pop open my laptop the odd time to do some work. I've tried most of the key locales in the (Mojo, Zumo, Flight, Memphis Belle, Cafe 86, etc.), and Lamason is simply the best in the city—which is saying quite a lot for a cafe-crazy capital like Wellington.
They make the best flat white of any of the places I've been to, and they're just unbelievably consistent: Every day, a perfect cup and friendly, genuine service (no matter how long their queue). They also have a loyalty card, which they're super chill about (another endearing feature).
The one downside is the construction happening right across the lot; but if nothing else, I'm happy for a bit of a deterrent for others to come crowd the place ;).
So happy I found this cafe!
EDIT: construction is now done, and the vibe is amazing (with no noise anymore!). Changed my rating to four stars, though, because of the smoking here. Every time I come by, I’m disturbed by all smoking in the semi-enclosed patio. You must walk through to get into the cafe, and it blows everywhere (often inside through the open door and windows). It’s started to become a deterrent. Will happily give 5 stars if they ever ban it.
L.
This is the pinnacle of wellington coffee, the serve people’s coffee and the really look after the beans. Loads of different options when it comes to cold brew, cold drip, filter or just straight up espresso. Only request would be to get Oatly oat milk for all the lactose intolerant people.
Make sure you also get yourself a cheese scone!
L.
Lamasons Brew is one of the few places in Wellington for seriously good coffee. Not only that, but with seriously knowledgeable and friendly staff, and great music. Perfect for that takeaway or quick meeting over some coffee of all kinds.
G.
Great coffee in a great little location. I walk past two good cafe's to get my coffee here. And the crew behind the counter are a good laugh too.
L.
The cafe is cozy and in a good location, staff were very attentive and polite. The coffee Honduras on Siphon was properly brewed and with a astonishing taste. Strongly recommend.
P.
Lamason has a lot to offer but it also has it's downsides.
Today's experience was less than satisfactory, but to kick this review off let's start with the basics. Location. Lamason is tucked away in a corner in a backstreet of central wellington but still manages to retain it's charm and attracts a fair amount of frequent customers with it's large menu for both beverages and food. It's décor is what you would expect of a new café these days with large glass windows, easy going seating and sit down bar where you can watch the various coffee and tea concoctions being prepared. the staff are helpful and inviting giving you a sense of welcome and reprieve from your day to day slog at work. With all it's potential there are always the negatives; such as the selection of music, depending on your tastes it's not what you might call café relaxing music and more pop electronica at times. But with that said what is "Café music"? if you don't like it, leave. Now to pricing; which I can only sum up as somewhat ridiculous. The costs are standard until you want a takeaway cup to which you're charged an additional $0.30 extra on whatever cup size you're having. This was explained to me being due to "We use expensive cups" which I'm going to have to call bullsh*t on. They're cups are your stock standard with the added 'feel good' message that they're fair trade & organic. Which brings me to the cup sizes themselves, some cafes you may have noticed love trying to pass off a Small as a Regular and charge you the same as a Regular, unfortunately Lamason has decided to join this sad following so as far as value for money I'm afraid you'll be left short and thirsty when you've finished your caffeine injection. Lastly, the brew itself, again I can't give Lamason full marks here. Preparation time; standard, Milk tampering; excellent, but overall taste would score a 5/10. Reason? Over extraction. To any coffee fanatic you know what this mean, to the novices it's when the barista allows the coffee extraction (when the water is passing through the ground coffee into your cup) to go for too long and instead of the sweet Arabica's you typically associate with a café experience you're left with a slightly bitter taste. This is not to be confused with beans that have gone off, that's a slightly oxidized note which is distinctly different. So fresh beans, bad preparation.
All up I would only give Lamason a 5/10 for it's location, environment, friendliness, taste, pricing and trying to get one over on their customers. Will I be frequenting again? Despite al it has going for it, only if they retrain their baristas a touch and improve their cup sizes and pricing. Until then, no.
K.
Wonderful coffee shop service People's Coffee on predominantly siphon, but also espresso and manual filter. Unlike most shops that serve siphon, it's not just for the novelty and they actually know how to brew it wonderfully time and time again.
R.
Couldn’t ask for a better coffee!
M.
Lovely cafe serving People's roast. Syphon, V60, cold brew - these guys will whip up your favorite drink with top quality beans.
A.
One of the best coffee in Wellington. Highly recommend to try their siphon coffee.
D.
One of my favourite cafes in Wellington. Coffee is always smooth and just perfect. Highly recommend trying the siphon coffee for a super unique experience.
O.
Always a good coffee on tap.
M.
Caffeine addiction gets seriously and professionally nurtured at the Lamason Brew Bar tucked into a little lane behind the West Plaza Hotel. With a carefully selected variety of single origin beans, Lamason are able to deliver a true coffee connoisseurs experience using some wonderful delivery mechanisms. The usual flat white in true barista flair, the cold brewed elixir served on cute little wooden trays with clear glasses and jugs to the exceptional siphon brewed dark liquid!! Salivate you dear caffeine junkies for Lamason is your Dealer.
B.
This place is out of the way located at the bottom of the Lombard car park - but worth seeking out, as the staff are engaging and the coffee is awesome - espresso, syphon, pour over - you name it. And did I mention the coffee is awesome?
