R.Having purchased our little corner of NZ, we wanted to engage somebody who would help design and build our house. After our initial meeting with Richard, we knew we had found the right company and set to work straight away. We spend weeks going through the design process with Benchmark getting our vision along with Richard’s ideas down on paper and finally into consented plans.
Being in the trade, I was always looking for that attention to detail and high quality workmanship as well as continued customer support, It goes without saying Benchmark Homes didn't disappoint. Having time with interior designers made the selection process much easier, and being local allowed us to go and see floorings, tiles and fixtures before locking things down.
We have our family home that we help design and build, and gives us the WOW factor we were after.

V.Benchmark helped us in buying a plot, and designing and building our house in Halswell. We selected Benchmark as a friend of ours who built their house with Benchmark ten years ago recommended them to us. We very much like our friend's house.
We really enjoyed working with Benchmark from start to finish. Richard, who is the owner of Benchmark, is a great guy to work with. He is responsive; I don’t remember if there was a time when he did not get back to us if we had any query. I always have a fear of investing money with a builder on building a new house as I heard so many horror stories. However, after having talked to Richard, I felt safe signing a house construction contract with them.
Our building construction started in the middle of January and finished by the end of June. We had a great project manager (an employee of Benchmark) who was very accommodative and was helpful to provide advice beyond the agreed construction contract. The project met all the milestones and completed exactly as per the original plan. Good weather during the last summer and autumn certainly helped to complete the project on time.
Over the period of building the house we interacted with most of Benchmark's small close-knit employees and their subcontractors. Every one of them were very pleasant to work with.
I believe many of the subcontractors have been working with Benchmark for over fifteen years. We found their work standards and the material they provided are of high quality. Contacting some of the subcontractors was at times frustrating. I suspect this may be due to work pressures.
We wished Benchmark helped us with landscaping work which they did not. We needed to do this on our own, which was a bit of inconvenience to us.
By the end of our house construction my wife and I became fans of Benchmark as an organisation: (1) Benchmark is led by a good person, (2) employees say they love to work with Benchmark, (3) subcontractors are proud that they are working for Benchmark for many many years and (4) one non-Benchmark tradesperson said to us that in the long run he wants to be a Benchmark subcontractor.
For these reasons I have no hesitation in recommending Benchmark to anyone who is considering building a house.
C.Benchmark designed and built my new home in Christchurch last year, while I was in Wellington and were extremely professional and helpful liaising via email, phone calls, web links for me to choose fixtures and fittings, and regular photos with updates. I am delighted with my home and the ease of dealing with Theo and Ben at Benchmark. Thoroughly recommend Benchmark for design and build of a new home.

R.Have been in our new home nearly 12 months, totally enjoyed the process, nothing was a problem. The builder and trades people were amazing, professional and excellent at their jobs - our home was finished faultless to an excellent quality and ahead of time. Was good to find a company who actually deliver their builds as flawless as their show homes are.
Was great to be able to go in with an idea of what we wanted, they listened to all the things we wanted and came up with the perfect custom design. If I build again it will be BENCHMARK all the way, and they will have a job on their hands to beat what we have.
B.Yes we'd happily build again with Benchmark! We hear so many unhappy stories of people who have built recently with various building companies but it wasn't the case with Benchmark. The whole process from initial contact with sales team at show homes to costings and choosing fittings etc, was seamless. PC sums were surprisingly accurate and transparent and the Project Manager, Killian, was on the button and always onto it. Tradesmen were on time and the whole job ran to schedule almost to the day!
R.We love our new home! The build was problem free and completed earlier than scheduled and the house was finished to a high standard. Benchmark staff were very professional, helpful and attentive to our needs. We were kept informed on progress from setting out to handover and it was amazing to see our empty lot transformed into a home week by week.
M.Working with Richard to initially design our first build project, he was able to understand exactly what we wanted through asking about how we live, and how the home would function - rather than just selling us a house. Halfway through the project now and the team has worked like clockwork, with client updates done via an online application 'Buildertrend'. Our project management has been excellent, and each time we visit the property we are blown away by progress. Highly recommended!
N.Very happy with our beautiful new home! There was minimal stress involved. I was pregnant through out the majority of our build and it was very easy. There's always some kind of stress with building, but Benchmark held our hands and guided us through the process and answered all our questions and were prompt in following up on repairs required.
D.From the first day on the site until the house was completed we couldn't fault any procedure carried out. Benchmark's project manager on the job was professional and organised. There was no stress, no problems, nothing incomplete. After living in the house for six months I can still say everything is perfect.
