We had purchased a section and started talking to a number of companies with pre-designed plans but struggled with the layouts and the lack of flexibility. We were regretting our choice to build and started visiting open homes. After seeing an ad online for SS Homes with one of Jason's designs we flicked him an email and he made contact straight away. We liked his style and he really listened to our design briefing. He nailed the design and floorplan first go, We made no changes to the original design! Jason had great input into colours and cladding really challenging our "safe/boring" ideas. He convinced us quickly and he was definitely right, the house looks amazing. The build process itself was very smooth, everything was completed on time and there were no surprises. The SS Homes team had a clear Variation Sheet for us that was kept up to date with every discretionary change we made. If there was ever a minor issue or change needed they would come to us with possible solutions and we just had to pick one. Everyone involved from Jason to all the contractors, admin staff, site manager & project manager were fantastic to work with. We will definitely use SS Homes in the future.

Having newly relocated to the Hawkes Bay, we were really unsure about who to contract to build our new home. We were looking for someone who could design the home that we envisioned and follow on to build it. We tried to engage a few different builders but couldn’t seem to get any traction. That was, until we met Jason from SS Homes Ltd after searching the internet and seeing his sign on the side of the road. With his can do attitude, knowledge, and the ability to conceptualise into reality what we envisioned, we knew we had chosen Jason to be the right person. The building process went smoothly and any issues were dealt with promptly and professionally. We were meant to move into our home in March 2020 but Covid disrupted those plans with lockdown, however in April 2020 we were able to move in. Even though things took a little longer with finishing the project due to Covid disruptions, SS Homes communication during this time was exceptional. Would definitely engage SS Homes again in a future project if it arises.

We chose Jason at SS Homes because he came to us highly recommended and we LOVED the look of his previous builds. Jason was very patient with us during the design process and was able to make any changes we needed. He was very knowledgeable about a range of products and made good recommendations. Jason kept us updated during the build process and the build was fully completed on time. We are so happy with our new home and can't recommend Jason highly enough.

We had the land but could not find the right design to fit our site, after looking for over six months we came across SS Homes. From the moment we sat down with Jason we new we had found the design and the builder to make our dream home. Jason gave us confidence to take on what was our first building project and from design to completion we did not have one sleepless night. We are very happy in our new home.

Jason and his team at SS Homes made the building of our new home a relatively stress-free experience for us, even with the Covid factor thrown into the mix. Work and payments plans were all predetermined before the build and this all went exactly to plan. Jason and Brian were always receptive and proactive with any small issues/queries that we had during the build and these were always actioned/explained promptly. We ended up with a lovely quality built home, built by a very professional building company. Would certainly recommend to anyone considering building a new home.

Newland: McLaren Cres I have been in my home now for 3 years: I was referred to SS Homes by a friend who had his home built with SS Homes: Building a home was not on my check list at that time: I had shopped around looking at different exiting houses though many of the houses I saw did not tick the boxes for me. I met with Jason and planning commenced: My design of home was to accommodate my whānau, my children, my mokopuna of all different ages and my extended whānau. My priority was at that time that our home would allow us to live together and at the same time have comfortable space for all whānau: I did not want a simple home, I wanted a home with character, meaning shapes and design was important to me: Such as the ceilings having different shapes and angles, the veranda to have a marae appearance, a whānau room that could be used for all occasions, the combination of timber and brick was suggested which looks great and I have had others comment on the design: The hot water system to be generated by a sunlight which has been a great way to keep the power account to a minimal. My experience of having my home built had many challenges as this was my first experience to the business of building a house, my insight to the language and terms in regard to building materials and the procedures was somewhat foreign to me: I was able to contact Jason to query any concerns I had which was promptly explained and clarified for me. From this experience and the completion of my beautiful home I have no hesitation in recommending SS Homes Ngā mihi nui ki a koe Jason and your team Anne

SS Homes ‘Percy Berry’ build kept popping up on our Facebook page and we fell in love with the look and layout. Eventually we made contact with Jason and was pleasantly surprised with how approachable, knowledgeable and most importantly how caring he was with our project. Jason came up to our site and made the time to show us around a couple of his builds to get some more inspiration. The whole process was seamless from the initial meeting to the final handover which was completed on time (actually a week early), and bang on the initial contracted price. Building a new home Is exciting and adventurous but also can be very draining because of the emotional and learning component. We had completed several major renovations and a recent new house build before embarking on this process and, even so, things had changed a lot. We were building in a completely different place— in fact a different country—and it was a bigger project than the other ones. So, even though we were relatively experienced as renovators/builders, it was still a learning curve but so very rewarding. Some people say, “Oh yeah, everyone can design a house.” Yes, there are lots of people who can design a collection of spaces and put labels on them and say, these functions could happen here but it's a bit different when you're talking about the spirit of a house and what it feels like living there. SS Homes and Jason bring design intelligence to the process. Design intelligence means that person is considering and thinking and weighing up, because buildings are living things, and we want our buildings to outlast us as well as reflect us. I think my favourite thing about working with SS Homes was working with Jason on a building that will house our life. It’s a place where there'll be happy times, there'll be sad times. Our home is incredibly flexible and robust. What I love about it is that the house must be able to do lots of different things and it will mean lots of different things to people. It has a strong sense of individuality and performs in so many ways. The other rewarding thing is that we've had amazing responses from neighbours to our building, saying that it’s modernity and sense of adventure has inspired them. So, my advice is to take a few risks with your design and let SS Homes bring them into your life to make your living experience better.

When we first thought about purchasing land on top of a hill, one of our first priorities was to ensure the site was in fact suitable for what we'd planned. Jason was great in the early stages, helping to put our mind at ease regarding the site and the possibilities, then putting us in contact with an excellent contractor to expedite initial earthworks, proving it's not just what you know......!! Our second priority was to ensure we had an accurate costing. Everyone always tells you "it will cost more than you'd planned". Our build came in on budget, with everything we expected, and included all the little things we didn't think of. Importantly, there were no major surprises. As for the finished product, we love it!! The design quality, and the finish from the builders and sub-trades were excellent. 2020 wasn't an easy time to build a new home, but aside from delays that were beyond their control, SS Homes ensured everything went pretty much according to plan.

Rowe and Tracey We had a great experience right from the outset with Jason from SS Homes. We had built many times before yet the experience we had with SS Homes was the best we had to date. We wanted something small and different and that’s what we received. We have been in our home for 3 ½ years and we still love it and it has performed very well.

When we needed to build we were fortunate to get a recommendation to use SS Homes from a highly trusted and well known‘tradie’ in the industry. The timing of his recommendation was excellent as we’d done a bit of looking around at this stage and had grown concerned with the ‘sales pitch without substance’ approach. It proved to be excellent advice. Jason met with us, explained his process and we knew we’d found the right person. The challenge for Jason was to satisfy me (a Project Manager fixated with accuracy, detail and cost). Jason’s task was to “design and build Nana a compact modern, very high quality, low maintenance, 1.5 bedroom, very spacious feeling, light filled, passively heated home, with indoor areas that seamlessly blend into the outdoors”. All this on the front lawn of an existing property with a restricted footprint – and all for a minimal fixed budget. This house needed a ‘big house’ feel on a ‘small house’ footprint and budget. The challenge for me was to ensure no stone was left unturned – it had to be ‘plug and play’ with everything included and no surprises. It had to meet the budget. I dreaded to hear those fateful words ‘that’s not included in the pricing’. And hear it, I did not, not even once. I also did not lift a Project Management finger. I never entered the council building. I sat back and waited for the email that said I had to choose things by this date – like paint colours, tiles, carpet, benchtop laminate – the fun stuff. I watched it all unfold, on time and $53.00 under budget – it was pleasurable. From the outset I liked the approach - the full design process, the absolute transparency in pricing, the inclusion of the quotes from other suppliers, the structure of the payment schedule and ease of working with Jason. No stone was left unturned - we knew exactly what we were getting and for what price. Throughout the building process we had total confidence in the team, the quality of the workmanship and attention to detail. Nana’s home was completed on schedule and for the contracted price. Jason, the builders and all the sub contractors were great and enjoyable to work with. Their advice, explanations and recommendations along the way were all spot on and they all worked in with each other to manage a seamless build schedule. “Nana’s house” ticks every box and we are thrilled with the quality of the build every day.
