Stopped in today for some time in a private hot pool. My wife and I loved every moment. The private area is exactly that, private, and you have your own little hot pool and room. You get a WC, shower, sink, mirror and private change room. It is very well laid out and modern. Very well done. The private pool is perfect. It's just wonderful relaxing for the best part of an hour in the pristine hot pool with the one you love. You don't realise until after you're out, showered and dressed just how relaxing this experience is. Awesome!

We booked a heli hike which included entrance to the hot pools. Chose to upgrade to the private pool which was the right choice, it was pretty busy in the public pools the day we went. The website is very good and I appreciated the FAQ page in particular.
I thought the system was very clever and efficient. A staff member will take you to your private pool and explain all the features and you have plenty of time to get changed before the pool completely fills which is when your timer begins (45 minutes). When your time is up, the pool starts to drain and you have about 10 minutes to shower in your private room and leave (towels are included in your booking).
While you can go to the public pools afterwards, I felt that there wasn't much point since 45 minutes is a long time in a hot pool anyway and I wanted to take advantage of my own private shower and change room. Also just to note, I'm pretty sure they don't let you in before your booking time (we were asked to take a seat before someone came to get us) so if you did want to try the public pools, you may have to go after your private pool booking.
While it was a pretty warm day when we came, it was still highly enjoyable and I'm sure it'd be even more amazing after a long hike or during winter.

This place is just what you need after a hard day's hike, beautiful facilities and great staff make it a very relaxing and enjoyable experience. We visited twice, once on our very own private hot pool for a 45 minute session. You have full privacy sorrounded by a lush fern garden, also have a bathroom and shower. The more affordable public baths are just as good with three different temperature pools. Do your self a favour and make sure you don't leave Franz Josef without at least visiting this place once.
W.
A lovely and tranquil place to relax and unwind on a busy (hiking) day. It's small (only 3 pools), especially compared to Hanmer Springs thermal pools. I appreciate the fact that the pools are covered in shade.
Kids are welcome, but there are no children's pools or other facilities. But there's a family changing room, including a shower.
L.
Booked Private Hot Pool, great value for 45 minutes....was more than long enough. Clean facilities, friendly staff. Pools set in beautiful native Bush, private surroundings. Private shower and toilet.
S.
We booked a Heli Hike on Franz Josef Glacier which, unfortunately, was cancelled due to bad weather conditions. As a consolation, we got a discount on the hot pools. We decided to get a private pool for $83 for 45 minutes. Our crib was very comfy and super relaxing. After the 45 minutes, you can use the three public pools for free. They are temperatured at 36°C, 38°C, and 40°C and there were only a few other people around. The discount rate for just the public pools was reasonably priced at $21 per person. Before I die, I have to come back to get on that Heli Hike and dip into the hot pools one more time. Overall, it was a nice experience but we were missing that little extra to push it to a 5 star rating.
J.
A little underwhelming but I wasn't expecting too much from the hot pools given that onsen in Japan is the holiest of holy grail which is hard to match. The private pool was nice for a couple and we could have some quiet time soaking in water temp of around 34-36 degrees? You can keep your stuff here without the need of a locker as you have the the whole shower and small space facility to yourself. Price is decent for 45 min and 2 pax.
P.
Without a doubt this is the best presented hot pool complex I have visited anywhere. Right from the warm welcome in the huge reception lounge I was impressed by the quality. Changing rooms are amazing and the Japanese style pools are cleverly designed and placed, surrounded by lush native vegetation. Sadly, the lack of tourists has closed it from start of May. Hopefully soon it will fire up again, maybe next school holidays.
S.
I visited it several times and every time I was surprised of why this place is not filled people. It is so tranquil with lush jungle and many birds. The best place to stop if the rain ruins your glacier plans!
R.
Nice hot pools, the swimwear drying machine is so cool. Lucky that it was not very crowded when we went
A.
A relaxing experience indeed. Pools are private and in an relaxing environment. Change rooms including a shower and toilet are in the probate pool areas. The change are was clean and heated. Pool water is filled and drained after each time slot. Very relaxing hot pool. Would recommend after a long days hiking or driving.
J.
The hot pools are three different temperatures they are 36, 38 and 40 degrees designed for relaxation there are lots of nooks and spots to relax in. The pools are all covered so no risk of sunburn and the views of the mountains surrounding can be seen when your in the right spots. The facilities also offer massage and private pools which we didn't take up. Has lockers for $2 and a very upmarket change facility. Unfortunately local discounts for coasters are not available at the moment so it was $70 for a family swim at non local prices. Sorry no photography is allowed at the pools but it is a greatly peaceful bush filled pool surrounds.
U.
A really great complex: 3 progressively hotter pool in a really gorgeous bush setting - We had fantails flitting around as we soaked. Really well maintained, clean, and a well thought-out design. Perfect end to a day spent walking a little further than we're used to!
V.
So soothing after a long walk. Pools are very well maintained and decorated using quality materials. Beautiful and peaceful rainforest surrounding. It was very quiet and my partner and I got to enjoy the main pools even more. Loved facilities such as tongs drier, hair drier and immaculately clean bathrooms.
L.
My partner and I loved our visit to the Franz Josef Glacier Hot Pools and would not hesitate to recommend them to other visitors on the West Coast. Changing rooms and toilets were modern and clean with plenty of room for all guests. The pools are set among bush and are just lovely. We particularly liked the option of a cool pool when the hot pools began feeling too warm. :-)
L.
Lovely relaxing hot pools. 3 different temperatures 36, 38 & 40. Really relaxing after a walk to the glaziers. Use booknz to get a good discount, we paid just $20 each. Towel rental is $5 and lockers are $2 although we used the cubby holes around the pools. No photography in the pool.
H.
It only had 3 pools but it was still lovely. Feels like ang exclusive hot pools. Temperature was great. It rained hard when we were there but the water was hot and made it the experience more memorable. No photos allowed which is nice.
L.
Stopped in here on holiday. Very tranquil, relaxing place. It was very quiet when my fiancé and I came, seeing as holidays have just finished, so we essentially had the pools to ourselves. What a wonderful place to soak in the warm water and listen to birdsong and cicadas!
A.
Been here for several times and the place is always amazing and good place for relaxation.
R.
Great facilities. Very clean and the pools were well maintained. Loved the tog drying machine which was free to use. Great experience even on a rainy day.
A.
Nice hot pools, entry was included with our heli-hike. I appreciated the canopy above. There are 3 different temperatures for pools. Clean and a nice environment to relax. If this is your thing then you will likely enjoy.
J.
Very clean, beautiful scenery, and lots of room.
We arrived when it opened (11am). The pools are beautiful. 3 different pools set to 36° 38° 40°. Gorgeous landscaping around everything, with ferns hanging over some parts providing some extra protection from rain or sunshine. There are a lot of little nooks for small groups to sit in relative privacy.
The changing rooms are nice and well kept.
We thought it was just a little too expensive ($28pp) but it was still worth it. I'd recommend if you can dedicate a few hours of time to really soak.
A.
Lovely pools! There's lots of places for you to store your belongings, whether you want them under lock and key or outside with you in plain sight.
There are 3 pools, all of them are decent sizes so they didn't feel crowded. Each of them is a different temperature, my personal favourite being the hottest! Could easily have stayed in the cooler one all day though!
Staff was very nice and friendly. There were a few packages you could get but I would say the pools are all you need!
Changing rooms were nice and had a drier for your wet swimsuits, you could also rent swimsuits, towels or bathrobes
It's walking distance from town and it's a lovely place that I would recommend
(No pictures to add as you aren't meant to take pictures inside the pools)
M.
These pools are relatively new and are a great addition to the town. The facility is clean and modern, and the lighting design at night is dramatic and fun. I brought a group and everyone was very pleased with the experience. The cost is low for what you get and the end result is relaxation and peace. Not to be missed if you're in Franz Josef for a night or two.
S.
Three different pools which was fun to flit between at 36, 38 and 40 degrees Celsius. Would recommend looking on book me though, you can book an arrival time for $14 which is half the regular price. Clean and we'll maintained, nice and relaxing to set beneath the greenery. Changing room facilities were great, very big and the female toilet area was scented really nice. Can hire a towel robe for like $7.50 if you want to feel luxurious. I didn't do it, but was jealous of those who did.
E.
The private pool is definitely worth spending the extra money for if you’re a couple. After a week in a camper, this was really a delight.
Only issue was that on arrival it’s unclear where to register and despite having 6 staff, every time we tried to get their attention they would be chatting to each other rather than serving customers! Also you don’t need 3 attendants to answer a single customers question.
J.
3 kinds of pools. Very nice and clean. My daughter had an allergic reaction (we suspect from the pollen) and the staff was very helpful in answering my questions to help trace what it was she reacted to. Keep yourself hydrated as it can get really warm.
M.
This is a spot where they have glacial water in pools and then heat it up to differing temperatures based upon what your comfort level is for relaxing in hot water. We stopped here late at night during a rainy and cold evening and this place was a godsend. About $17 gets you into the pools provided you don't need a swimsuit or towel (all of which are available for rent). The pools are surrounded by trees and beautiful native vegetation and covered with tarps that allowed most of the rain to be caught on the top. A great experience and well worth the price.
P.
Fantastic experience. Not many people and great hot pools! Fantastic staff! Will come back for sure! There's 3 public big pools 36°C, 38°C, 40°C and private ones. Great clean facilities also.
Perfect spot to relax when it's raining 😉
J.
Great experience, especially on a not nice weather day! We did the private pools, and the changing rooms were awesome. Heated, private and fully your own! The three public pools were different temperatures which we didn't realize at first, but was really cool.
R.
We bought tickets through bookme.co.nz and payed 19 NZD per ticket, which was money well spent for on a rainy day. There are three relatively large pools (36, 38 and 40 degrees) with different round corners, so people can have their ‘own’ corner in the pool if it gets more crowded. The rainforest-like setting gives the place a relaxed atmosphere. Big tents prevent the rain from falling down, although at some places the rain does fall down, which is a welcome cooling experience!
It was pretty busy (Saturday at 2pm), but since everyone gets mellow relaxing, it didn’t feel too crowded. Changing rooms were spacious and clean and included a tumbler/dryer for swimwear (working surprisingly well). Entrance is situated within the i-SITE. Recommended on a rainy day.
A.
Well worth coming to visit the hot pools here.
They have three baths overall, 36°, 38° and 40°.
36° was absolutely perfect for me and I'm usually really picky about hot baths.
The prices were actually really good considering you could stay for as long as you wanted upon entering, the changing facilities and toilets were also in great working order.
J.
Don't miss this on the list. The three temperature pools are fun to mix n match or have your private setting. We loved a couple of hours of serenity here and all guests were relaxed with enough privavcy to go around.
A.
We got a package deal - hot pools and the kiwi viewing nature place down the road. This was by far the highlight of the day. Steaming tubs after a day of romping around was the perfect way to relax.
The pools are luxurious, and very well decorated. The area is tranquil, and reasonably priced too
S.
Really enjoyed this place. We went while it was raining and the rain coming through the tarpaulin over the pools was nice. It's clean and the water is warm. We just used the main pools.
When we went there were lots of people. This meant we had to go on a waiting list for about 25mins. This wasn't the end of the world as there is a cafe in the waiting area. It also meant that the private pools were all booked up.
There was a message on the blackboard saying that entry would be stopped at 6pm as a large group had booked. So maybe check ahead.
The showers were as clean as any I've used in New Zealand. They had run out of body wash though.
We stayed for a little over an hour.
A.
3 nicely landscaped hot pools, staff friendly and helpful, but ridiculously overpriced. We took our 2 grandchildren along with 4 nieces and nephews (6 children in total aged 7- 15yrs + 1 adult swimming). Cost $179.
M.
These are not natural hot springs so I thought entry fee was a bit high. There is a strong smell of chlorine but the overall set up is very nice with trees for shade etc. You do need to pay extra for a locker if you need one. There are cubby holes by the pools where you can leave your gear for free
M.
What a tranquil space to relax and unwind after a long drive or a walk on the glacier. Love how all the pools are sheltered from the weather and surrounded by lush greeneries. In the female changing room, there are lots of hairdryers provided and lockers. Good facilities all around.
M.
It's a nice relaxing hot pool spa with three different temperatures surrounded by New Zealand ferns. Pretty relaxing! I think they should add some more features like a sauna or steam room to improve your value. Especially if this is a back up for rained-out yours, it would be nice to have that little more for the main pool visitors.
B.
Our helicopter ride back from the glacier was delayed due to poor weather so we ended up missing our massage bookings by almost 2 hours. They gave us a free private pool and tried their best to fit us in, but sometimes things don't work out and we received a full refund. 5 stars for their service! Thanks Georgia for trying!
S.
Experiencing the amazing West Coast rainforest, while sitting in a nice hot pool. It was raining heavy while there, but we almost had it to ourselves when visiting right after they opened. Was really nice to sit in hot water under the sails, while rain was pouring down!
K.
Best hot tubs. They have screen covers over them so you don't get to burned by the sun. 40, 38, 36 degree pools. If you are local there is a discount. Very tropical. Nice soothing sounds. Clean.
S.
This place is easy and simple and not over the top. Pay your money, good change rooms, lockers, parking. The pools are right next to each other so your not walking through a rain forest to get to the next pool while your freezing. You will find some kids there at times buts its not a big deal. If you dont want kids at a pool go to a fancy one.
K.
Great series of 3 hot pools - loved the jungle vibes! Very relaxing and rejuvenating with only a few others there. Only improvement would be free towels. We really appreciated the tog dryer!
R.
After a long day of hiking in the rain. this was perfect! They have private pools and then a few different main pools of different temperatures. They have machines to dry your swimsuits and showers for afterwards as well. You can also rent swim suits and towels and such
C.
The hot pools are pretty much that, a hot pool. There were three hot pools (not including the private ones) on offer. Although during the time we went there were serval children running around being load, we were able to find a quiet spot away from them. It is a relaxing place to go even though our experience was slightly hampered by the children running around between the pools. For us it felt like just a shared large bath to talk in rather than a secluded place to relax.
J.
The whole complex feels classy however let-downs were the temperatures of the pools and the showers. Two of three pools were luke warm with only one being nice and hot. The showers in the men's changing rooms were barely-even luke warm and were a let down right at the end of a pleasant soak.
L.
We had a lovely experience here. Went in the main pools so was busy but not over crowded. Would definitely recommend especially after a hike.
I.
We booked through book me which was very easy, and got it at a cheaper rate of $19. It was very easy when we arrived and we went straight through, all the staff were polite and friendly. The pools are lovely and not too overcrowded. Has lockers and shelves.
R.
3 pools to enjoy at different temperatures, it was relaxing, however, not the biggest, so the cooler pool was more busy because you could stay in longer
J.
We kind of just stumbled upon this when driving around town, definitely worth the stop.
J.
Loved it! The pools are small but during the day they are not busy. Nice changing rooms. They allow kids in too and have separate family changing areas
R.
Wasn't as pretty as the pics on the brochure or website.. We only came in because our helihike was cancelled due to bad weather and needed to at least do something here after coming all the way, haha! Stayed only half an hour though as there weren't as many pools as we'd expected.
j.
Frantastic, was a super way to spend an overcast day. Good clean facilities, friendly staff, enjoyed the hot pool and the cool pool. Loved our time.
P.
Lovely setting, very clean, very relaxing. 3 temperatures of baths to choose from. Very few others around when we were there so was extra calming and peaceful. Really enjoyed the experience.
c.
Lovely little covered 'outdoor' hot pools. Steam and shrubbery give a slightly secluded vibe. 3 temperatures for the pools give a good variety on heat.
M.
Very nice place. We were fortunate as there very only some couples with us, so we could feel the relax in a beautiful place with hot pools with different temperature.
A.
There are 3 pools in the public access. The ambience is lovely with lots of ferns and trees around. There are also shade and rain shelters to combat the west coast weather which is nice!
R.
Lovely hot private pool. The pool and change room is really clean and the environment is nice and quiet.
We enjoyed our time there and the girls at tue reception are welcoming and always smiling.
Totally worth the money 😊
B.
Fairly welcoming staff, and great facilities. There are 3 pools to choose from of different temperatures. I definitely recommend finding the "coldest" one (36C) first and working your way up to the 38C and 40C ones.
H.
We went on an evening and the misty pools surrounded by plants was magical. Three large pools of different temperatures. Remember to take a towel so you don’t have to hire one.
M.
Beautiful setting, lovely hot pools. Highly recommend the private pools.
R.
Always awesome never crowded. Friendly staff. Clean secure amenities. Child friendly.
n.
So very relaxing, we booked the public pool and it has 3 different pools with 3 different water temperatures. The changing rooms were clean too.
P.
$28 entry + $5 if you need a towel. Thses are just pools with hot water in them. Of course you must expect the sulfur smell, but it is mild.
Friendly staff but over priced food and limited choice.
C.
Clean Trpical, quiet setting. $27.50 for Entry. Choose from a 36deg, 38 ded or 40 degree pool!! Clean shower and toilet facilties. Cheap good quality NZ souviner Tshirts for sale at entry
J.
3 pools all different temps, all nice and relaxing! Nice setting and facilities 🙂
R.
Perfect way to relax after a long day of hiking. Several temperatures for every need and it feels like you’re in a jungle pool, well worth the stop!
S.
I enjoyed swimming at the 36 and 38 degree pool. Relaxing 😊
L.
Pleasant hot pools, nice decor. But this isn't a natural hot spring - chlorine water - and no jacuzzi, just 3 pools of different temperatures, 36 to 40 degrees.
S.
Really nice pools, very clean and quiet. 3 pools with 36, 38 and 40 degrees surrounded by lots of ferns and even sheltered.
F.
Nice place, especially after a long walk. Three hot pools with different temperatures. Unfortunately, no pool to cool down inbetween. Not much to offer apart from that.
M.
Although not natural geothermal hot springs the atmosphere with the encroaching rainforest really helps you unwind.
I found Hamner Springs to much of a concrete jungle compared to these pools, it can be quite romantic at night.
A clothes spinner addition would add more value for the price you pay at the front.
V.
As someone who hates massages I was convinced to get a massage here and my GOD - I never realised what I was missing out on, I walked out and felt so relaxed (just the feeling you want when on holiday) I cannot recommend Annita the therapist enough she was beyond great and wish she worked in Sydney so I could get a massage from her all the time! You won't regret it!
C.
Really enjoyed speaking in the pools surrounded by rainforest. Our six month old baby was able to enjoy soaking in the 36 degree pool too
Z.
Great place to soak for an hour. They have 3 pools: 36c, 38c and 40 celsius. You can also get private pools for a romantic time.
H.
Enjoy the hot pools. Surprised to find them open after covid 19. Saw an add on fb. Love the green fern look.
S.
It's okay, quite relaxing just sitting in the pools and chatting. We got it as part of a package with Heli hike. Wouldn't go to do just this, but was nice to do after the hike to relax.
Y.
We booked a relaxing massage for my mother in law. Was amazing she was so happy with the treatment and her therapist Anita excellent experience and I would totally recommended
n.
The best, this is the best hot pools I have been in very nice three different heated pools nice surroundings, they have lockers $2.00. Their is also a coffee shop their. Well worth a vist.
J.
The atmosphere is nice, only 3 pools though, may get crowded. Doesnt feel like a waterpark but neither is it an authentic like hot pools place. Would go again.
R.
Got there miday nobody there. Romantic, 2pm started to get people coming in. Towels, togs $5 each. Well designed pools.
R.
A delicious set of hot pools right within walking distance of our campground. Excellent after a nice day hike to the glacier and back.🥳
J.
Really enjoyed it in one of the private pools between 4 of us, although was quite cramped. These aren't real hot pools though, but still great.
N.
Great pools, be warned not outdoor natural hot springs but instead large hot pool complex. Super clean & very popular in summer.
B.
Lovely pools, beautiful surroundings. Really great that they have a machine in the changing rooms that spins the water out of your swimsuit!
D.
Nice and relaxing, clean with great facilities after your dip in the pool
C.
Awesome place to relax and enjoy the soothing sensations of the hot pools. Fairly reasonable price but nice and clean facilities to change and shower off in.
E.
This place is a great place to go and relax after looking at the amazing attractions and activities, they have 3 different pools with different temperatures 36 -40 degrees this place is great place to go at night time as it is more quieter and no kids are around.
M.
Was ok. The hot pools were wonderful, staff were not great at telling us about the facilities and were short on making suggestions unless we asked something.
S.
Nice pools and friendly staf. Everthing clean. Only minus is that it is quite small when there are a lot of people. We were lucky that it was quite.
J.
The land is gorgeous, I went on the short trek for viewing. It has receded to the point you must make the long
trek to truly experience up close.
J.
Decent hot pool. Small, nothing too special besides being surrounded by nature and bush. Tad bit overpriced for it's value..
N.
Nice set of hot pools where to relax after your Glacier hike. Access is free if you were on the Helicopter tour.
I.
A good place to unwind and relax after a long day... The public pools are relatively small, so it can be a bit crowded. For what it is, a bit overpriced.
L.
As a local we get to make the most out of such an awesome place. Relaxing, tranquil experience time and again. We make this a must stop place each time we pass through. Very highly recommend
T.
Private pool for 2, relaxing and good to go after the glacier trip. Very comfortable and good place to rest.
B.

F.
Pretty good value given the location. Bring your own towel and be aware that if you need one, lockers are $2.
M.
In cold day absolutely to do. Lovely lovely place.
C.
This place is a little expensive for what it was. It's a good place to relax, however the place was very crowded. On a cold day, soaking in the hot tube is a great way to end the day.
J.

(Translated) Pretty grounds with three hot water pools, 36, 38 and 40 ° C. Day ticket for two with baby just over $ 50, shorter is not possible. The normal person will hardly stay longer than one, maybe one and a half hours in the pools, at the temperatures. Unfortunately, there is no other way to stay except in the water. Therefore a little more expensive. At 11 o'clock it was still empty, we were the only visitors. Outside temperature relatively no matter, 12 ° C were quite pleasant. People friendly, facility clean and modern.

Außentemperatur relativ egal, 12°C waren ganz angenehm. Leute freundlich, Anlage sauber und modern.

(Translated) There were three pools at different temperatures. Large changing rooms. Unfortunately, there were no loungers to relax in and no bar for food or drinks. We have already found better ones. For my time to bridge and get warm it was good. For backpackers it is ok to take a warm bath
(Original)

(Translated) Not bad for relaxing after hikes or hours on the road, the lockers are at 2ND, but there are lockers away at the pools which are open and free.
The setting is nice, intimate because no view of the outside just on the basins and different ferns
(Original)

(Translated) This is a great place to rest and bathe after a day of fun. The single entry fare is NZD28. There is a medium-sized pool with different temperatures, 36, 38 and 40 degrees Celsius. I like the 38-degree pool the most, because the pool is accompanied by a water dispenser, so you can always be thirsty and have a bath!
(Original)

(Translated) For the very correct price of $ 28 you can enjoy the three 36 to 40 ° C pools located in a superb forest setting of tree ferns. The changing rooms and showers are very clean and modern, everything is designed for a welcome relaxation session after a hike on the Franz Josef glacier. It is possible to rent a towel for an additional $ 5 as well as a swimsuit if necessary. The establishment closes its doors at 9 p.m. which allows you to enjoy the warmth of the pools during the cool night.

There are three temperature pools, open air, and a few comfortable. I most like to have a dry swimsuit, clothes and machines, so amazing!
However, if you provide a towel, you will be charged NZD 5 - there is little air 啰 😗

(Translated) An absolute highlight! The private pools are awesome. A top recommendation. There is a privacy screen, the water is drained every time and then comes into the pool from scratch, there is also a changing room with shower and toilet.

(Translated) After a long hike, the right place to relax and get back in shape (massages are offered). Without a hike (as with us) the three pools (36, 38 and 40 ° C) and maybe a bit overpriced ... Showers and changing rooms are great.
(Original)

(Translated) Climbing Franz Josef Glacier at 8:15 am there at our organization and there we got our necessary stuff. We therefore got spikes for under our shoes. First we had to take a short walk through the jungel and then we came to a huge Glacier. You could choose different guides there, so we went for the first group because they would follow a higher pace and we had to set the paths in the ice for the others. Our guide George was therefore very fanatic and he knew a lot about the Glacier. The Franz Josef Glacier therefore sometimes grows 9 meters a day.
(Original)
