Thought I check this place out, glad I did service and staff were excellent, fast and friendly. As for food we had wedges which was delicious. To say that they're busy, was a understatement customers rocking up all the time. Hats off to the cook Amber and her work colleague, who didn't miss a beat or order

Excellent, Professional service and food. And a clean shop. They take pride in what they do. I walked in late, just after they had just finished mopping the floor. The smell of bleach gave me confidence they were a hygienic outfit. As a visitor to the area - I was impressed

Always a guaranteed stop. When we thought our local fish and chips shop is good, Gibbos is a whole world of quality above. The fish is always only just cooked through, full of fluids running out while eating. The shellfish here is of the same freshness and always so juicy too. Batter, crispy and soft, all full of flavour. Always the best. Just don't be late on the day, you'll miss out and get what's left.

Lovely spot on the wharf with a view of whale island. Lovely sea breeze. Very generous portions of food and a nice assortment of drinks. Tidy clean shop and the same with the outdoor seating area. The staff are professional and friendly and helped us with the best deal for our needs. Made our visit to Whakatane an even better experience before heading off back home to Te Puke.

Great friendly staff, reasonably priced for location (not feeding the tourists compared to others in similar setting) only dissapointed couldnt see a toilet and felt was bit busy to ask. Glad could have my dog with me and not get a glare when I carry him through. Also chips were tasty hahaha

Very decent fish & chips on the wharf in Whakatane. Lots of options for fish other than just 'fish of the day' and the usual deep fried selection of fritters, sausages, burgers chips & other seafood plus ice cream and drinks. They do have some seating inside with high chairs available, overflow seating upstairs, there's a fishtank you can watch while you're watching for your food. There are a couple of picnic tables outside on the wharf if you want to eat straight away.

Cool place to dine in, reason for only 3 stars was because by time we got home, 7 minute drive the chips on bottom of cardboard were soggy & some parts of the battered fish 2. Loved the salt sachets thou & the gurnard fish tasted yummy. Maybe need bit more cooking so doesn't go soggy??? Love the fish tank. And sunset was beautiful to watch while waiting.

Eating inside isn't great because it's really dark. But if you can snag the only sunny table outside there's also a great view. Would go back for the great fish and chips.

Love the freshness of the fish we always drop in for a feed we from out of town and the fish burgers, chips and food cooked here is delicious I always ask for a runny egg on my fish burger lol definitely good size portions and reasonable prices.

Front of house lady wasn’t very friendly, didn’t say have a nice day or enjoy your meal, no smiles. Ordered a couple bits of fish, mussels squid rings and hot dog. Hot dog was very delicious, but the rest of the food was soggy after a 1 minute car ride to the heads, needed to stay in the fryer longer to prevent soggy food. Would be great if they provided a lemon wedge with fish. Didn’t have the fish we wanted as wasn’t available but that’s understandable. Overall I would say a bit too expensive for what we got, but the hot dog was 5/5 :)

Had a family dinner down at the heads to celebrate a birthday. Delicious food but due to the rush this fish ended up a bit soggy & sticking together. Otherwise it was all good. Always nice to have fresh fish.

Delicious fresh fish and chips We had a very good dinner here - we were able to choose the fish we wanted and have it grilled. We ordered a tasty fresh salad and some chips. It was a good cheap meal for two. Be careful if you are planning to eat dinner here - it closes at 7.00pm!

Crumbed Tarakihi and Kumara chips on the waterfront for Boxing Day dinner, was an absolute treat! Some of the best crumbed fish we’ve had. And delicious Chunky kumara chips. Highly recommend!

Its average, small scoops of chips, fish wasnt the freshest when I went and that's a shame because gibbos boasts about their fresh fish. Didnt have any oysters either and over cooked the scallops significantly that they were very dry and not pleasant to eat. The customer service tho is top notch, they are super friendly and polite, it is in a great location and it is always nice to be able to sit by the water when you're enjoying a feed of fish and chips. I would go here again as gibbos is probably one of the better in whakatane.

We called 2min before closing time and they stayed open for us. Awesome battered terakihi, with salt pepper and parsley. Fantastic chips, good sized scoops. Very friendly service. Chilled sitting out on the wharf. Definitely recommend.

Whilst the wharf shop was closed the day we went, the King St shop was the best cooked fish etc and would be one of the best we have ever had. No wonder they have an excellent reputation.

Who was responsible for allowing that rawfish to be sold today?? It was stink n off! No expiry date on it or when it was made. Our car stunk of it just from our breaths 😂.
