This is regarding the 2 male ED RNs in the waiting room compared to the rest of the ED staff. I observed that these 2 male ED RNs did not even perform first aid or simple/ light wound dressing to a patient who has had a head wound, bilateral knee contusion and abrasion, and mild head injury from a fall. This patient was my mom, and not even a drop of saline solution was used to clean mom's dirty wounds. The male, Asian RNs on duty were too busy talking, and not in any hurry to do actual first aid, just busy with paper and computer work and pushing around a dressing trolley but not actually using it, till my mom started bleeding again from her head wound and he was just walking around or talking, till he finally condescended to do a dressing that is so substandard as no cleaning of wound was involved, he just put his gloves on, folded a piece of gauze and stuck it on mom's head wound. My question is, how in the world did this inept RN end up working in the waiting room of NSH Emergency Department? Where's the infection control? Why are their wound dressing techniques so substandard? I would like to thank the lovely ED doctor, Doctor Nick who dressed mom's wounds, he is doing such a fantastic job and the RN who gave mom her tetanus injection, and Moana who took mom back from scan, they are all lovely and very professional. I would also like to thank the male staff who took mom to radiology for scan and his wife who saw us and helped us at the mall carpark where mom fell down. She kindly told her husband to look out for mom when she gets to ED. I hope NSH will give him special recognition for taking the time and expressing care and concern towards us. These are the kind of health professionals we need at this time.
