My experience here: My daughter had some problems at birth (seizures and breathing issues) and was sent to the newborn intensive care unit (NICU) for a few days. They made us feel better in what was the worst week of my life. Not knowing what would happen with my daughter. But the nurses and doctors in NICU took such good care of her (and us) that I have just come home with a perfectly healthy beautiful little girl who is doing so well. All thanks to the amazing team at Waikato hospital specifically at NICU. The nurses there are true heroes who save lives on a daily basis.

I have worked in the hospital so KNOW how busy the place gets.
My father contracted COVID19 whilst in hospital, just before he was due to be discharged. The only way know how he is doing is get on the phone.
1st of April we tried from 1130 to get an update. Numerous calls unanswered, or disconnected and two we will ring back.
It took a call to the duty manager to finally get a call with a brief update.
2nd April...again tried since 10am. Again unanswered/disconnected calls and I am currently waiting for a call back that was held an hour ago...I initially was told to call back in 10 minutes as nurse busy.

Had a ct scan booked for 9 03 22 at 8.15am. Arrived at the car park about 7.50, arrived at reception just after 8am. Directed to waiting corridor. Had just been seated for a minute, they called my name, Had the scan and out at 20 past 8. Carpark was free ( less than 30 minutes) amazing. Ticket got sucked into the exit machine and nothing happened. Had to wait a couple of minutes to be let out but that didn't dampen my day. Great experience. Thanks team

Thank you from me Stephen Adams To all the doctors and nurses in the gastro department And the whole of Waikato hospital it a hospital we can all be grateful for . And also be grateful to the professional hardworking staff. No one wants to be sick Sometimes you just can't help it But it's always good to have someone on your side like waikato hospital .

7 September I had my mammogram a week later I received my results, breast 🎀 2 weeks later I had my biopsy the staff from the breast clinic were just amazing follow guideline to make sure I understood what was happening. My prep started from the 11th to the 14th October was reassuring, they were followed up by phone calls to see if I needed support or any questions and appointments. My op went well theater staff just comforting. Transfer to M4 where the staff gave 100% care . Ngā mihi nui. Now the rest is up to me.we can do this, it is what it is. Ka mau te wehi

I would like to give the start rehab team the biggest praise for helping my mum for the second time in 18 months. The staff are extremely helpful, kind and very professional. You have helped my mum Matilda so much, and the community is so lucky to have you around. I really appreciate you all.

This week I had minor surgery to remove a big skin cancer from my forehead. Doctor Yang Gao did a very good job. Aside from swelling and bruising I have had no pain whatsoever. Doctor Gao and his team of Sheree and Karen in the Meade Clinic were absolutely marvellous to deal with. I have since had the stitches removed. My GP was very impressed with the results of the surgery. Doctor Gao is a skilled artisan.
F.
They literally saved my life and leg. I'm walking and alive because of these guys. God bless them.

Had to get back surgery a few days ago my surgery was great!! However the after care was not that great. The nurse (most of them) and doctor where very lovely people. However, it’s very understaffed. Sadly that’s how it is. Some of the nurses where not that nice.Food is not great but it is what it is.
Had to go there again a few days afther I got discharged and it took a long time more then 5 hours to her basic care. Whel chairs where not that available.
It’s a great hospital but really under staffed. My Surgeon was amazing!!
Still a great place if u need it.💕💕
C.
Just another amazing experience at this hospital. 8 staff called in sick at cardiology and yet they still managed to get us seen to with a few changes. All in all a great experience. Thanks.
K.
I had to visit the Menzies Building for day surgery. My appointment was on time, the staff I met were fantastic, caring and calming; the only negative was trying to find parking, which according to the nurse is always difficult after 9:00am
B.
Just not long got of Waikato Hospital after having major Surgery to Remove part of my liver ,with Tumor attached.
Coming from Whanganui Hospital referal having to go to waikato Hospital was daunting, but once going to waikato Hospital pre surgery visit I found waikato Hospital Staff very helpful and friendly and pre op appointment easy with systems they have in place I wasn't treated like a number but more like a person .Thanks for that
My oppointments with all who were going to be involved in my operation right up to the Surgeon was reassuring.
A few weeks went by and with the glitches in the System an appointment became available for my operation early than expected ,we went next morning Surgery again Staff explaining what would be going to happen ,after 5 hours later Surgery a success Tumor and over just half of my liver removed ,a bit sore and into recovery Brilliant Staff I spent A few hours ,then into main ward where a spent a recovery period of a few days.
I Would like to Thank everyone involved to make my operation possible and Successful. A Very Special Thank you to Mr Walsh and his team.
Waikato you are very blessed to have such a great Suregon as Mr Walsh, he such Caring Man ,he visited Daily even on weekends.

My 83 year old husband had a badly “smashed” elbow on 30th May and was admitted via an ambulance! He got a final clearance on Wednesday 16th September and we can honestly say from start to finish everyone who has been involved in his care gave the most amazing professional, efficient and pleasant service. Ambulance, Theatre, Ward and Reception ‘C’ staff turned what could have been a horrible experience for someone (who hasn’t been a hospital patient for 36 years), into one of calm and consideration. Thank you all🙏 Kia Kaha
s.
Thank you to all of the staff in these trying times.
A Special thank you to those working at the COVID19 centres and at the vaccination centres.

Management..you need to do something yo help the emergency department staff. I've been sitting with my dad in the corridor of triage. Not once in that time has someone come up to check on him. He has had no obs done.
K.
I just wanted to give a huge amount of thank you to the staff in ICU. My mum was flown to Waikato from Hawkes Bay tonight for an emergency operation. I contacted the hospital from Melbourne Australia for an a update which they couldn't provide as she was still to arrive. After the surgery they got my phone number from mum and called me with an update and let me speak to her. They were amazing and will keep me updated daily with her progress. The amount of relief you have given me is irreplaceable. Thank you for all you do. I know mum will be looked after and is in good hands. You're amazing👍❤
H.
All things considered, had a delightful experience. Great Nurses!
d.
I would like to record my appreciation for the way the surgeon, Mr Ajay Sud,
treated me prior, and during the procedure.
His sense of humour and demeanor must be a great comfort to patients who are nervous assisting nurses were also very professional.
M.
Parking is an ABOMINATION- and not cheap, though wilson parking no longer runs it, but the DHB.
Too many people but thats due to elective surgeries building up whilst multiple layers of managers on expensive salaries bleed it dry.
P.
I was a patient recently in the cardiac ward. The care I received was wonderful from, tea lady, cleaner, nurses to Doctors all very caring and nothing was to much trouble.A big thank you Waikato Hospital you rock.
G.
Thank you for delivering beautiful baby to our life in February 2021 . All staff were very caring throughout the process , special thanks to Joseph, Jess , Chaney , Karen , Vicki , John Barren , Karen , Leanne , Jennie and our LMC Debbie.
I am glad Ihaana got the best start cause of you guys .
L.
My husband had a small procedure done in theater today, we started off in the Emergency section and then onto the ward, the staff throughout the hospital were super friendly, the facilities were amazing, we were blown away by the experience !! A huge thumbs up and a big thank you to everyone!!
J.
I visit once every. 4 weeks for treatment taking 4 hours each visit. The nurses and assistant are superb.
H.
Staff are brilliant doing their best at all times. Have travelled 2 hours to be here at 8am and my husband not seen until 4pm. Then travelled 2 hours back. That can be frustrating for sick people..
T.
I travelled over Wednesday for a procedure. My nurses were amazing! Especially a lady (I can't remember her name but it's close to toole or something). She made me feel very comfortable and stable throughout my procedure. She kept me calm and made me feel like my comfortability was paramount to her. Couldn't be happier with the service I was provided. 5 stars.
A.
I went to the emergency room last night for severe pain in my jaw from wisdom teeth infection. I was helped by a wonderful lady. Unfortunately i didnt get her name but she had short brown hair , glasses and she had an accent. She was very upbeat and she made me feel so comfortable and welcoming. She truly had made my experience a whole lot better. Thankyou to that nurse, you were wonderful.
G.
It's a big place. Could easily get lost in the hospital but there are help desk if you need to ask. Not sure about now with covid.
R.
I want to thank the staff in the Emergency Department at Waikato Hospital, they were fantastic last night when I was admitted. From the Triage nurse right through to discharge the staff were friendly, efficient, and kept me and my wife well informed about the whole process. I have been in the hospital system many times and this was my best experience by far. This department should be the pride of the Hospital and I hope the rest of the hospital is following their footsteps.
H.
I come to maxifacial here quite often from New Plymouth and the staff at reception always greet me by name and are absolutely lovely. Mike and Moustapha are magician's and always have me laughing.
j.
I got a swollen draw this morning on Saturday, GP closed, I went to Waikato Hospital emergency dept. I was very impressed the service, was very friendly, caring, professional. Nurses, doctor, very updated equipments. A specialist came to check me up. X-ray blood test to ensure no other problems, it is gland infection, had an hour drips with antibiotic. I was back home in the afternoon. A follow up appointment on Monday. Very thankful NZ free public health care.
J.
A great service provider...
Dont hold your breath trying to find (free road side) parking as the chances of it are challengingly slim but not totally impossible, payed parking is easy ( generally ), and layout inside building was well mapped with colour directional areas for ease of finding the service required..
P.
Went for Xray had lunch, long wait to see doctor after Xray, appointment time was 1.30pm waited untill 3.15 to see doctor. Left hospital around 3.30pm.
A.
My son was see in A&E last week referred by GP, he received excellent care from every person he made contact with. He was treated with dignity and respect and given good explanation of procedures and plan for his discharge. Well done Waikato DHB.
Thank you.
N.
My son Frank was admitted to A&E on 23 Jan pm, busy but those nurses had it organised and graciously apologising for the delay. My son was taken through to resus seen by Reg Meera fantastic communication from her, put us at ease.
Step down to kids place looked after by nurse Sarah who was also a great communicator.
Best place for accidents and emergencies.
I.
The amazing care and respect that has been extended to my beautiful granddaughter and our entire family in our time of great despair has been truly outstanding. Our sincere and grateful thanks to all staff. Doctors nurses reception orderlies and cleaners and everyone else we came into contact with. Thank you thank you thank you.
t.
Short staffed and clearly underfunded. I am surprised that the children's A&E doesn't have a duty doctor. Hardly any patients in today but it's been a very long wait. The nurses have been great though and are doing all they can. Can only hope that there will be some funding down the line, this department badly needs it.
I have to add that we have just seen a doctor and and again absolutely great
w.
Went to Ear Nose and Throat Dep., the receptionist was cheerful and helpful, got in within five minutes of the app. time, the Medical staff who checked me out were excellent, had an X ray and a check over, filled out the paperwork and in the car in less than an hour ten minutes. Great system, and if I might add, if it ain't broke, don't fix it? Many thanks. Ian Jones
C.
This was my first stay in a hospital so i was quite nervous. But my nerves were settled thanks to the amazing staff at Waikato Hospital. As soon as I got there the nurses were really lovely and attentive. The doctors were very thorough. The orderlies were very polite and friendly and made sure I had everything new towels, a hot drink and food as well as extra blankets. Just an all round great experience apart from being sick lol Just would really like to thank everyone for making the stay soo much more enjoyable. Great hospital.
S.
My stay at Waikato hospital was made 1000x better by my lovely nurses up in ward 8 🥰 Anna thank you for your attentiveness and gentle nature! From mrs Allan (one with the smiley baby)
J.
I can honestly not fault anything or anyone.from food well prepared and daily on time to regular on time visits from doctor teams to your absolutly fantastic nursing team to whom nothing is a hassle. A big thank you.. This is not my first time here but it is always the same. Also surgical team a great team. Thank you all
R.
My whole experience here was great. The doctors from Cardiac and Thoracic. The nurses from A2,CCU 1 & 2, M14 Nino who looked after me after surgery to drain fluid around my heart. This is my 3rd surgery here in Waikato Hospital. I had a total thyroidectomy done in 2017 June. And now I'm on my second drain in 3 weeks. Doctors have had to drain fluid from around my heart and lungs. They're awesome.
T.
A big thanks to the Surgical team and nurses that looked after me,Excellent team work ,also thank you to the Helicopter crew enjoy the ride was so excited to be in a Helicopter 😀🚁
G.
the waikato dhb successful cure d my chronic road rage with the expert use of herbal extract and manuka honey. Drawbacks were that I am now rendered impotent
D.
I recently had a hip operation done.,.the staff were absolutely wonderful, run off their feet but did an awesome job. My only complaint was they sent me to my pick up afterwards in a wheelchair that was obviously too low for someone having just had a hip operation. Remedy of this situation should be done at once. Thank you
C.
I went for an appointment at the Eye Clinic today and was impressed with the speed and professionalism of the staff. Initially, I thought, it will take the whole morning. However, all my tests and meeting with the specialist took only about 1.5 hours. Thumbs up.
K.
I had surgery to clear my sinuses. All the staff were professional and polite. The food was good and tasted nice. I enjoyed my short stay.
D.
My wife recently had surgery at the Waikato hospital. The staff were world class. Friendly, helpful, and experts in there field's. Thank you so much to all the team at Waikato hospital. Special mention to Ward E1
G.
I have been an inpatient a couple of times the year and a number of outpatient visits. The staff and the doctors and nurses provide an excellent service.
B.
Currently in Meddi Hotel. For which I am grateful.
Here by accident, when one of the many hard-working medical staff, using insight and intuition found more wrong than was suspected. I now am having what some say is life saving care by the cardiac team.
I have been supported by some amazing staff whilst coming to terms with either a procedure, or the whole diagnosis. At present I am in a holding pattern while a team decide how best to move to what understandably is a intricate operation. The team has without a doubt worked hard to bring me along on a journey that was sprung on them. I feel as a person considered at this time.
REGARDS
BOB,

Amazing care of our son after an horrific road accident. Staff on Ward 16 could not have been more caring and kind, and we thank them for making our son's recovery a little easier with great patience and understanding.
R.
My husband was in Critical Care ICU 2 weeks & just over 4 weeks in HDU. Today he transferred to the Nuero Ward. The staff and care he received in ICU/HDU was outstanding. They are super awesome 👍 and I can't say enough about the care they gave 24/7. Our health system what I saw & experienced was amazing
Thank U from Tanya Parker & The Parker Whanau 💕Arohanui

The elevators are a headache! Lol. Needs more info on the floor levels. Parking..don't forget to pull a tab off with the level you parked at, before you get into that elevator!!! (when under stress..the floor level you parked at goes out the door! Haha) staff at Waikato hospital are amazing. Super friendly. Very helpful! And informative. Don't be afraid to ask questions!! Enquire about their 7day pass for parking!!! It's only $7.00
As a parent, this is very helpful, especially if you have to come and go often, when your child (or other family member) is in one of the wards!!!!!! I hope this info helps someone.
A.
Update: the Neurosurgery department provided my mum excellent care recently (nurses and surgeons), as well as the radiation oncology department... Thank you.
However, if you are diagnosed with a tumour of the Ampulla of Vater (a duct which allows the liver and pancreas to drain bile and pancreatic enzymes into the duodenum), please urgently seek a second opinion from specialist hepatopancreatobiliary surgeons in Auckland. This is a rare location for cancer, and it is our experience that Waikato Hospital does not have the expertise or systems in place to care for you appropriately. Serious oversights, and breakdowns of communication between clinicians occurred.
Upon our family seeking a second opinion, the situation was quickly identified as detrimental and rectified. I recommend you always ask questions, get second opinions, and actively participate in your healthcare.
R.
Huge thanks to all the staff on day surgery for their kindness yesterday and also Chloe-Jane and the lovely girl she was working with last night. They couldnt have been kinder or more helpful.
d.

I.
Good place to visit, but wouldn't wanna stay there too long.
Visit yesterday was good.
Been waiting nearly 10 years for treatment, now gonna be done 1st week of May.
C.
Had surgery done in November 2015. Excellent hospital, friendly staff. Great doctors. Top service from the public health system. Thank you
R.
Finding a car park is difficult. One suggestion is to have someone drop and pick you up later. Otherwise all good
c.
Veeeerrrrry long waits 10 hours minimum but its free medical care no cost so that's a bonus I spose, they might need more staff to cut down that waiting time thousands of sick people go in there cause its free that's provably due to the long wait
D.
One of the best hospital experience I've had in a long time. The staff are really nice and welcoming.
L.
This trip have been in A & E then CC3 and then OPR 2. The treatment and staff are wonderful as are the meals
