I took part in the National Screening bowel treatment program and receive a positive test. Outpatients responded almost immediately after being advised by my local doctor and I was immediately booked infor a colonscopy. This was completed within 2 weeks of my sending in my test. The total procedure was most professionally carried out with excellent communication and in recovery I was treated well, and towards the end treated to 2 freshly made sandwiches and coffee. Thank you.

On arriving to the hospital at 3am with severe abdominal pain I was triaged and in a bed in less than 10 mins with pain relief and a diagnosis in the following 20 mins. Staff were great and courteous throughout and sympathetic with my symptoms.

Great staff when I went in to have my second child recently. We were only in the hospital for approx 8 hours and it was during the night shift hours but the staff (as well as my midwife) where incredible, made sure both my partner and I had food and drinks etc, friendly as anything. And the room was very clean, comfortable and well prepared. They made our experience pleasant and calm.... Considering what we were there for! 🤣

On the 2nd of June our whanau we’re travelling from Te Awamutu- Porirua after burying my sister the previous day. Unfortunately, my son and her partner were in a vehicle accident just before Hunterville. Fortunately neither of them received major injuries, however, my son showed signs of concussion so he was transported to Whanganui hospital by St John’s ambulance and as it goes a number of tests snd X-rays we’re taken and overnight observations were carried out.
However, as all whanau do they support each other, so I was very grateful that my sister and her whanau followed us to Whanganui hospital as well. Time was ticking and before we knew it was nearing midnight. We still had about another 4 hours to go before we reached Porirua. The night was very cold so we asked if the hospital had a whanau whare available, of which the nurse taking care of my son was very apologetic and told me “sorry the whare is full”and all they could offer was blankets and could we sleep in our cars, which wasn’t suitable but it was the next best thing.
Then a few minutes later the Night Manager Nurse came over to me said that she had arranged for 7 of us to be accommodated at a motel only a few meters away, all paid for by the hospital.
Our whanau would like to thank Jackie (Night Manager Nurse) from the bottom of our hearts for arranging that stay.
Whanganui Hospital - you have a true Florence Nightingale in your presence, her care and understanding will not go unnoticed by our whanau.

Had to visit the A&E with my sick 1 year old daughter. Even thought it was really busy, we found everyone really friendly and caring, the triage nurse Brian was lovely and got us help while we had to wait. The doctor who saw us was also lovely and caring too and empathetic. Great to have free parking right by the A&E and facilities and service was more than reasonable for such a tough day.

Was busy but in a covid world to be expected staff where nice and place was clean and well presented

Amazing experience.
Easy access off,-street parking (free parking). Well signposted access to hospital's main entrance.
Although the outside views of the facility show efforts have been the upgrade the look and feel of visitor arrival - this belies the enhanced finishing and amenities upon entry to the premises (and further). Art-lined corridors amazed me. Iconic Whanganui images adorn the facility beautifully.
The cafe just inside the main entrance is worth a visit - nice ambience. Main reception team low key, efficient, helpful and professional. Ward staff equally astute, friendly and professional.

Staff were amazing. Responsive, caring, empathetic and fabulous. Had a long wait before being triaged into A&E the first time, but 2nd visit was quicker. The staff were very very busy, but still took time out to talk - really talk to the patients. Only let done - the cafe. Friends and Family could not get a decent coffee as on both days the days they visited the cafe was shut??? not sure if it’s ever open even? No signage re open hours for cafe? Thankgod for Macs drive through coffee only 5 mins away.

My partner was flown from the national park to Wanganui hospital with a broken clavicle. From the receptionists, to the para medics, nurses and doctors everyone was highly competent, friendly, helpful. The premises are spotless, bright and comfortable. A big thank you to Wanganui hospital and their people for making us feel safe and in good hands.
