C.This Airbnb at 3/5 Scotia Place is great value for money! The room was clean and comfortable. Most notable was the very pleasant staff at the front desk. They were so friendly, welcoming and always said hello each time we came through the lobby. We would will definitely stay there again!
V.Very average place to stay. Rooms are decent but TV on the wall wasn't placed well couldn't see lying down on bed. Moreover, TV was unable to connect to internet I'm sure they did that on purpose

The hotel building itself is a bit older, however it is in a prime location for shopping on Queens Street and is right by Myers park.
The rooms are a little bit dated, however they are kept as nice as can be by the cleaning staff which complete room service every day :-).
The staff at the reception were definitely the highlight of the hotel, as they were incredibly helpful and professional with any situation.
Definitely worth a stay, especially considering the great cost!

Positive - sky tower view from my room was spectacular and room was clean and all the things you need was there, there is 1gb free data you get I guess for free. Location is great close to everything you need in town.
Negative - costly parking, I could hear some noisy people next to my room hitting on wall and too much construction work was going can make little bit harder at the date I am posting this, shower pressure not too strong but that's not big deal for some people.
But all n all good experience. I Will recommend this place for good Value for money. 😊
L.Room was ok for the price we paid but $35 for the carpark in my opinion is a little bit expensive. The mini fridge didn't work properly but it was only one night so good enough.
M.Great rooms, cheap, good food, and if the food is a bit expensive, there're a café a couple blocks away with cheap prices.
Edit : I've stayed in this hotel 3 times now and I have to say, best cheap hotel I have ever been in. I had a room for 75 per night and this was my experience : the staff were friendly and helpful, they always greeted me and made me feel welcome, the rooms were well kept and all included ; teas, coffees, hot chocolate, 2 wine glasses, 2 glasses, 2 mugs, a mini fridge with a glass bottle of water and a small safe. In fact the water stored in mini fridge was seriously helpful for me as I didn't want to buy any. The three different bathrooms were all of different sizes and shapes but all very well designed and included a hair-dryer, as well as Fair Trade soap, body wash, lotion, shampoo and conditioner! The rooms had adjustable heating, lamps with usb ports for charging your phone, and there was a communal laundry room. There were some issues with the laundry room but they got fixed.
I didn't eat much at the restaurant because it was a bit expensive and I'm a vegan due to not being able to digest most animal products well, but there's a Dominos down the street that sells vegan pizzas for like 10nzd so I basically just had that with some extra toppings for dinners.
All around my favourite stay, it was relaxing and enjoyable.

This is a place I like to stay when I come to auckland.
I.It is nice for the price you pay, very clean. Few things were a bit annoying :
- On the double room bed we had 2 single mattresses together and very thin pillows
- The TV was not tuned and was impossible to watch
- The toilet paper holder in the toilet was broken, which means that you always have to turn around to grab it from the back of the toilet.
- Also it seemed that cleaners and maintenance people were around all the time, which yes, means that the hotel is clean, but it was pretty much impossible to catch an elevator without it being cleaned or used to transport paint buckets etc....
On the positive, the staff is polite, the gym is larger than average, but does not have lighter weights for women only 8kg and up, but has 2 tread mills, a bike and a rowing machine.
The room was clean and tidy, I would prefer a larger rubbish bin or an additional one and sweetner as an option in the tea box
G.Small room. There are bigger rooms as per the owner's comments below :) Relatively clean. Old beds, but an OK sleep. Building and rooms feel old, but they have been painted not too long ago. Good for the price. At best a 3 star hotel.
G.We booked this one for the location/price. Our weekend stay was ok. Definitely nothing special, as per usual in the photos the rooms looked MUCH bigger. Shower was good and the room was clean. Breakfast was a little average and the bar never appeared to be open. We decided not to use their car park as this was another $25 a day. I'd say a 6 or 7 out of ten would be a generous rating.

L.As per a lot of the other reviews, the places itself it very adequate. Inexpensive and relatively good proximity to town. Not exactly wow-worthy, but good if you just need a place to sleep and don't plan to spend much time there. Absolutely nothing wrong with the place. Will be returning should a need a place to stay near the city. Would recommend to a friend.
Z.Good location to the city. Got a great rate enough room for 2 in the bed and bathroom and both were clean. Water pressure great. Staff are polite.
Only real negative was the car park. It was tight like trying to get a size 10 into a size 7 shoe. Also is a little tired in places but it's clean that's all I care about.

Only issue I had is the walls seem to be quite thin and you can hear people talking in the rooms around you.
M.I've stayed at Ascotia many times, it's usually the cheapest centrally located option when I travel to Auckland CBD for work. Handy to the domain (across Grafton Bridge) for a run, and within easy walking distance of K-road and High St food options, and lower Queen St. Simple functional good value accommodation.
B.Clean room. Nice bathroom. Parking at the hotel kind of sucks. We had to park in the lower level. As Americans struggling with having the steering wheel on the right, the steepness and tight corners were particularly problematic. The location was great though. Our bed was super soft and kind of hurt our backs. The buffet in the restaurant at dinner was Indian food, which I love but had already had the night before. There are so many great restaurants within walking distance.
A.This was a pretty nice place in Auckland. It seemed like a good location, right off of Queen Street, within walking distance of a lot of restaurants and shops. The room was quite small, but the bed was nice, the bathroom was good with a nice shower, and everything was clean and maintained. Parking is available for $25 but it seemed very limited, with maybe only 5 spots (so if you need parking, it would be worthwhile to check-in as early as possible). We were only here for a night, and everything was good, but it was just a little expensive (to be fair, we didn't see much that was cheaper, so maybe that's just how Auckland is).
F.I spent a night in this hotel and I am overall satisfied. However, there are important points to address:
1. This hotel used misleading publicity/info regarding their room. They show very big room on line and then when you arrive there you find a cubicle with no A/C and almost a sauna. In my room for example there was no desk and the wardrobe was very small
2. Internet is not free and this is really ridiculous in 2015, I had to pay $5 for 1 GB
The staff is very friendly. But I would appreciate honesty, with real pictures representative of their room.

S.Great for the price. Booked this hotel with a friend for a concert, the price and location is great we walked into central and to the vector easy enough and a taxi was also very cheap for the late night trip home in heels. Room was a tad small but easily liveable for a few nights, the beds were more like a king singles and the bathroom was a little small but it still had a stand alone shower and was big enough. my only negatives were that there is no air con in the too so be prepared if its hot, we left the windows open during the day to let air in and had to close at night as got a bit noisy and we could not get the wifi to work at all. check in was easy and they will look after your bags if your early, I would def stay here again as was great value for money for the location
W.Nothing particularly wrong and nothing stand out great. In terms of plain money value, it's reasonable enough with clean rooms,but not somewhere you want to spend much more time than just sleeping. A good enough budget hotel.

A.Excellent location, renovated and clean. Good facilities provided. There was a bit of an issue checking in due to the credit card that was used to make the booking had been cancelled and was required despite ID and confirmation documents being provided. Issue was resolved however and the stay was pleasant.
M.The staff are lovely and so helpful. The room was clean, spacious and central. Brilliant value for money. It's not marketing itself as a luxury place, but I think if you are looking for budget, you will be happily surprised
M.A very mediocre hotel throughout. It's suitable for a brief stay near city centre (walking distance to CBD), but it doesn't impress with pretty much... anything. Dated interior, not enough ventilation, tacky signs & brochures, single-glazed windows (hello loud rubbish truck at 5 am on a Monday morning!). It's not outright 'bad', but it's definitely not 'good'. Kind of 'meh'.
S.Stayed here in a double room for one night for 123NZD. The room and bathroom were large and had good air conditioning, the bed was super comfy and the included continental breakfast had a good selection of nice food. We were also able to walk from here for no longer than 30 mins to get to things we wanted to see.
T.I think I had too high expectations for this place. Everything is just so standard here. The view is kind of bad - at least the direction we were facing - and the reception and dining area is very basic and clinical looking. The service was fine, but nothing out of the ordinary. Just a basic hotel experience.

Nice and modern furniture with a wall mounted TV.
My favourite feature was the walk in closet, with a mini fridge and safe. I would have appreciated a microwave too, but the coffee kettle was nice.
The bathroom had a contiguous floor tiling even in the shower (ie. Shower is not enclosed) with a curtain separating the toilet from the shower head. I wasn't too fussed about not having a bathtub.
The bed was large and comfortable, with white modern styled sheets, a welcomed aesthetic for minimalists.
Overall it was a very enjoyable week-long stay right off Queen street. Looking forward to revisiting.
L.Centrally located, secure, walking distance to everything. Rooms are compact but clean, and are just perfect for just being a place to come back to after a long day shopping! No parking on sure, you need to park across the road in a Wilson carpark building. But you don't need your car as buses are on the road outside and the trains at bottom Queen st.

A.Update 2 Years later - Gave them another shot at a cheaper price point (and with free breakfast) and while not much has changed at the more reasonable price you get what you pay for. The best way to describe the Ascotia is 'Severely average' and that's not necessarily a bad thing. The internet has improved slightly and they've updated some of the amenities. We were given a complimentary upgrade to a king sized room (two singles pushed together) however cleanliness could still be improved and the soundproofing is still non existant.
As many others have mentioned the rooms are far smaller than what's stated and shown on the website. The website stated the (Queen) room had heating and a desk neither of which were present. While the 1gb of free WiFi was nice it was incredibly slow. At the price point I'd expect something a little nicer (What's shown on the website would be about right). Throughout the night and early in the mornings you can hear every door on your floor as they open and close disturbingly loudly there's absolutely no sound proofing.
D.Good for single traveller. Small room but very clean and comfortable. Good location considering price. The standout for me was the staff - very friendly and very high standard of service from everybody regardless of time of day (or night..).
M.Just a little way out of Auckland central it offers comfortable accomodation and the bare essentials. I had a buffet dinner which was good value. Parking was a bit awkward and possibly not as advertised. The wifi was inadequate and not easy to use. The room was ok and the bed very comfortable. Checking was very easy and staff helpful. It was nice and quiet.It seemed to be advertised as a 4 star hotel but in my opinion definately is not.
A.Spent a week at the Ascotia Off Queen hotel on a working holiday visa. Check in is at 2:00 but luckily our room was ready early and we were able to go in at 1:00. Stayed in room 302, double twin beds and a corner window. My only complaint was the lack of accessible power plugs in the room. Otherwise the service was on par and it was a fine place to stay for the time i was there.
T.I stayed one night in this city to see the sights. The hotel has all the amenities a family needed. The employees are probably the best we have ever encountered. The location is without a doubt the best location. We always had transport willingly available to us from the resort.
A.Adequate no frills place to stay. Room both clean and comfortable and air con fine too.
Big negative is the basement carpark. Have to negotiate a very steep ramp with overly tight bends. To cap it all once I got down (having reversed my E320 wagon all the way) there was insufficient clearance to finally get it to the one remaining space. $25 for this dubious privilege too..
J.Location was the best, walking distance to almost all the main visiting areas and hot food places, room was very small but decent for the price you pay and you get a private bathroom. The service was good to my standard because the staff didnt make unnecessary small talk and just got to the point and were helpful if you asked anything.

C.convenient location, small rooms, clean enough. It has laundrette on the 6th floor you can use (3 dollars a wash, 3 a dry, 1 dollar for the soap). Point is: on the opposite street (crossing queen street) you have a hostel, cheaper. you only have to face a stiff slope up to reach it.
A.Very good for the price! Serviceable size room for the executive suit. Clean and had everything needed. Close enough to town to walk with the option of a bus if needed.
C.Reasonable place, comfortable rooms if a bit snug. Good location. Easy to get to from the airport. Reasonably priced. Not luxury but the combination of price and location makes it a good value.
D.It's nice enough and much cheaper than most hotels in Auckland. But it sure isn't 4 star. I'd say a decent 3 star hotel.
D.I think paying a bond of 2.5x the cost of the accommodation was a bit excessive, given that nothing in that room could even amount to how much the bond was. But very good value for money and its super close to town

I.Very friendly staff. Book early for the parking as they don't have many spaces available. Access to queen street is awesome. The meals are a bit small though if your a big eater.
S.Value for money considering how close to the city centre you are. Room cleaned every day and bed changed twice during our 4 night stay not the Ritz but an ideal location to explore Auckland. Word to the wise the last bit of Queen street is very steep so maybe not ideal if you are not 100% fit..........

S.Three stars is for good location, good staff, and a relatively nice room. It says affordable but there is a $25 parking fee and $5 for only 1GB of WiFi. I consider these hidden fees sub par. It did not come with a breakfast and even if it did their breakfast did not look great.
J.If you just need a bed then this is the place. Clean, comfortable and good breakfast choices. 10 minutes walk from the sky tower. Not high end but extremely good value for money.

O.Nothing really wrong with it, nothing really right with it either. The Ascotia Off Queen has location going for it, and apart from being a place to crash while exploring the city, not much more. Stayed for 2 nights, bed was adequate, bathroom was nice, and location was central.

O.Ascotia Off Queen Hotel. A budget accommodation hotel in Auckland. A very nice place to stay as it's located in the heart of the Auckland City. The staff are very friendly and a very nice clean room. Love it there!!!
D.Was upgraded to an executive room, nice and clean, however a few essential design flaws have been observed - there was no luggage rack for the bags , toilet paper holder was missing , the hot water pressure in the shower was low ( think hydro pneumatic pumps aren't used, surprising ! Hydraulic consultant, where are you ? ) / no shelving to keep toiletries near the wash basin and shower area , power outlets aren't place at appropriate locations , they are where they're not suppose to be ...
Overall comfortable , neat and clean- though common sense in design is missing , Design Architect are you listening !!

Positiv ist die sehr Zentrale Lage des Hotels. Direkt an einer der Hauptstraßen von Auckland hat man alle notwendigen Geschäfte und Restaurants in der Nähe. Wer gerne asiatisch mag wird sich wohl fühlen.
Das Hotelzimmer könnte sauberer sein. Bett und Handtücher sind rein. Der Eindruck meines Zimmers ist das es halt etwas abgerockt ist.
Leider fehlt in meinem Zimmer ein Stuhl und ein ein Schreibtisch. Somit ist dies eher negativ wenn man abends noch am Laptop etwas arbeiten muss. Täglich gibt es 1 Gigabyte an Datenvolumen was voll ausreichend für Mails oder Whatsapp Telefonate.
Fazit: Es gibt bessere aber auch weitaus schlimmere Hotels. Für 3-4 Nächte machbar aber bei längeren Aufenthalt würde ich etwas anderes wählen.

Ich war im Ascotia Off Queen für 13 Tage.
Als erstes bekam ich nach einem sehr freundlichen Empfang ein kostenloses Upgrade und hatte somit zum selben Preis ein riesiges (!) Zimmer.
Die Leute an der Rezeption waren jederzeit sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Ich bekam Tipps und Hinweise für die Reise und die Stimmung war sehr gut.
Ebenso ist die Lage sehr gut.
Als ich beim Checkout merkte, dass sich mein Flug nach Melbourne so verspätet, dass ich den Anschlussflug nach Adelaide nicht mehr bekomme, hat sich ein junger Mann der Rezeption intensiv darum gekümmert und mir kurzerhand telefonisch den Flug umgebucht. Dafür bin ich heute noch äußerst dankbar!!
Ich habe rein gar nichts zu kritisieren.
