D.Absolutely amazing friendly staff! Amazing garden area. No information booklet left in the room so didn’t know what time the pool closed or opened, or what eatery was around, noisey road during the early mornings Comfortable beds nice and clean.
A.Really enjoyable staycation. Lovely qaint setting, perfect location for access to Takapuna beach and local restaurants. Beautiful grounds and lovely pool, a bit tricky with kids not allowed to jump in, but overall a lovely weekend. Would definitely stay again. Thank you

T.Spent a night here. Really happy with the facilities and state of the room. Only issue was that the only heat source was an oil heater and though it was adequate, winters can get pretty chilly. Minor issue. On the whole, I had a great stay. Hospitable staff, clean room and lovely location close to the beach and shops.
Bonus points: Excellent water pressure and very accurate water temperature control in the shower 👍🏽👍🏽
N.Great place for a short stay, next to the Takapuna Beach Cafe and the beach itself, homely feel to the rooms and surrounding areas, friendly staff. Rooms are clean and have adequate facilities. A bit old style so there are some things that are not up to par compared to more modern hotels and suites. Laundry facilities are located separately in a room on the ground floor, so best to get your laundry done when it's not raining. Parking space can be a bit tight but fortunately plentiful or a short walk away from your room. Staff are very friendly and the lobby area is a good warm place to hang around.. there's a pool and the surrounding gardens are pretty (love the singing Tui birds). There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance and more shopping options a little further away, plus walking along Hurstmere Rd or the beach is relaxing too.
J.A really comfortable place to stay. Rooms are very clean and have everything you need; they are serviced daily by friendly and helpful staff. Wish we were staying longer, but we’re heading home to Australia today.

A.My experience with the hotel was delightful, so I'm struggling to understand these negative reviews. I sympathize with those who had unpleasant hotel experiences, but please do not let them put you off. I look for 3 things primarily at a hotel:
is it clean? is is quiet? is the staff courteous?
I found all 3 at Emerald, and I hope you will too.
I was put in a large, spacious room facing onto the garden and pool. The bathroom was small but clean and pristine with a powerful shower head that made early morning wake ups much more bearable . The room was scented by the flowers and plants outside the window -- it felt like being in a lovely tropical treehouse. The staff were all friendly and polite and even showed me how to do my laundry on-site. The hotel is superbly located if you want to enjoy Takapuna's beaches, cafes, and restaurants. If you are more of the solitary type, it was quiet enough for me to do a lot of reading and writing on the balcony.
Were their cons? Sure. No air-con might be an issue for some. Auckland, while not being hot, is very humid, and you can find yourself sweaty even on a mild day. The crowds from the cafes and restaurants, if your room faces the road might be irksome in the summertime months. If you want to roll out of your room onto the beach, this is not the hotel for you, but the beach is pretty darn close. Takapuna, the town can be a little snooty. Kiwis, like most islanders, seem to have mixed feelings about tourists, so it can sometimes feel like they want your money but not necessarily your presence. On the flip side, several shopowners were hugely gracious and eager to give a discount or a freebie to a foreign traveler.
All in all, it was a sublime stay and I'd happily return.

P.Family from round the world stayed here for 5 days over new year en route to a wedding. Emerald was responsive and accommodating during booking as we made a few changes along the way, and provided a couple of upgrades when we arrived that were warmly welcomed. The facilities were clean and the Villa provided a great place for our clan to gather. Takapuna is a lovely north shore beachside suburb, close to Devenport (also lovely) with easy ferry access to Auckland, Rangitoto and Waiheke Island. Also quick access to major roads for trips out to Waitakere ranges and other places.
R.The pictures are not accurate. The place looks way better on picture than in real life. No AC in any room which is painful in summer, hard to sleep when your room is an oven and of course the windows didn't have a mosquito net! Good luck sleeping with the windows open because you'll get eaten alive by mosquitoes! Spiders everywhere, be careful when walking around because you can run into a spider web (even in the bathroom next to the reception area!) The rooms look dated and bed covers are circa 1970's. The pool was dirty.
The pros: close to the beach and the coffee shop down the road.

H.We stayed in one bedroom apartment, was a touch small. Had a very bizarre set out. Kichen vanity set out was weird. Wifi great. Location great. Wife had stayed before and enjoyed those rooms. Sending PDFs of vax pass felt a bit over the top. Photo should have been good enough. Nice and quite.
