E.Sam and George are the friendliest and most helpful receptionists I’ve ever encountered at a hostel. Absolutely one of my favorite hostels I’ve ever stayed at. The vibes are mellow but fun and social. The kitchen is very clean, spacious and well equipped, each bunk has its own nightlight and outlet for charging, there is a hot tub and sauna to enjoy on the chilly evenings, nice laundry facilities, and clean bathrooms and showers. I really appreciated that there was no curfew, we are adults after all. :) The only downside for me was the distance from the city center, but I wanted to stay somewhere quiet without the young party crowd that typically flocks to the hostels in the center of town. There is a bus stop directly across the street though which will get you to the city center in 10 minutes for $4.50.
H.Loved the layout of all the little houses and the gardens made it private in your own area, the bed was super comfortable, friendly staff/owner, shower pressure was 10/10 (I have long hair so always appreciated), particularly suitable for us as a big group too. Hot tub and sauna was an unexpected luxury. What a gem! Thank you.
A.This is a lovely spot, set in a historic building with plenty of outdoor space to relax. Staff were friendly and helpful and my only criticism is that the mattress on my bed was a little uncomfortable. Otherwise, I would highly recommend Countryhouse Backpackers as a place to stay in Christchurch.
N.The staff were all very friendly and helpful, lovely spacious outside area, the rooms were tidy and cosy with heating, the kitchen and bathrooms were immaculate - won't find it often in backpackers, that's for sure. And it's just.. the whole place gives you so many positive vibes - I would stay there again without any doubts

T.Great hostel in a good location. Parking space at the hostel, but if that's full there is plenty of street parking. I loved the design of the hostel with different houses and a lot of grass space.
Good security in the hostel as it has a card key for the building and each room. And there is also a safe for each person in the room to use. Each bed has two USB plug and two outlets. My only complaint was that the beds were pretty uncomfortable and springy, but I really enjoyed the hostel and it's a great value so I'm still giving it 5 stars.
Kitchen was soooo impressively clean and so were the toilets and showers. Each one is separate and you get your own space in the showers.
Lastly, cool staff! Thanks for being so chill!
M.It was fantastic from the beginning until the end. Starting with the lovely and friendly welcome of Luca who explained everything perfect to us, continuing with the well equipped and clean kitchen (free coffee available!), we directly felt at home.
In our dorm room we had huge windows and the beds were comfortable too. Plus: Two sockets for every bed - Perfect to use especially in combination with the free wifi!
Another nice feature were the secure lockers. Even though, I didn‘t need to use them because I felt safe over the whole stay, I do think it is another good opportunity to create and support a safe feeling.
At night it was good to have the electronic key that you get in the beginning. You will not have any problems to enter the Hostel.

S.Had a very frustrating stay here, the accomodation and setup for the hostel are great, beds are comfortable and linen is provided. The issue I guess was for the people in our specific room and area. The room we stayed in was very bad smelling and few were quiet after the designated time. The bathroom was very dirty with hair everywhere. Maybe we just got unlucky, but probably wouldn't stay here again. Your milage may vary as there are some gleaming reviews of the place.

This is an amazing hostel for a short and extended stay. Everything is clean and tidy, and right were you expected so finding things is not hassle. The environment is comfiting so at the end of the day it actually feels like you're a coming home rather than to a room full of strangers. Staff are exceptionally friendly while doing a fantastic job of looking after the place (shoutout to sam and stef).
I attribute my love of Christchurch largely to this hostel. Wouldn't stay anywhere else.

M.Felt very at home during my stay here, and the hosts were really friendly and helpful with planning your day or just have a friendly chat. Great facilities. Very spacious and well looked after. A positive surprise were the secure lockers to keep valuables in. Now, I never used these because I didn't feel the need for it since the premises were only acessable to guests. But it was a very nice feature to provide this for guests to feel ever more secure. If I have to say ANY negative thing about this place it would be that the matresses weren't the most comfortable, but that's about it. Highly recommended
c.Staff were very friendly and The Old Countryhouse had availability while other hostels in the area may be fully booked. I was pleasantly surprised by the accommodations. There are three main buildings each with free wifi and the rooms are spacious. There are full kitchens in each building and there is a hottub and sauna free for occupants. The only reason I did not give the hostel i 5 stars is that the area of town is not particularly exciting or easily walkable to attractions. If you would like a nice comfortable place to crash, this is it.

It's not a big place that makes everything cold without life. I can make a few friends there for sure.

This is the best hostel I have been to out of 10+ hostels across NZ. The owner has been running this hostel for over 20 years and has clearly learned a lot in those 2 decades. The beds are comfortable, the staff are extremely helpful, there is a natural outdoor common area big enough to toss a frisbee in but small enough to lay bean bags out and talk. There’s also a hot tub open for use whenever you like. The kitchen is big and well stocked with essentials like tea and coffee.
L.Staying Here for the second time. Might be a little more pricey than other Hostels. But dann this is Clean. Arrived a little early and das the cleaning Crew Wirkung. If you are concerned about Clean hostels - come here.
Also nice: all age groups can stay here without beeing made uncomfortable.
M.This has got to be one of my favorite hostels of all time. Free unlimited WiFi for people who are staying. A decent size kitchen with everything that you need. Comfortable beds with a good shower in each dorm building. Safety deposit box to store away your valuables. There are a lot of travelers that stay at this hostel so it is really easy to meet new people. The only downside is that, there's not much around, and that you have to walk to get to places (ie. City centre, banks, stores).
S.This hostle is above and beyond any I have stayed at. Its such a homey feeling and super safe with a beautiful fenced in yard that is card access. With a spot to soak in the sun on bean bag chains, a spa and sauna. Plus a hostle guitar, all the cooking things you may need and safes in all dorms for valuables.

W.Loved it. It's a very nice and clean hostel with a beautiful garden, friendly people and the most friendly dog. Staff are very helpful and have a lot of great recommendations, not only for christchurch but also for other places in the South Island. Definitely worth staying here and I would recommend this place to anyone.
S.We stayed at the “The Old Countryhouse Backpackers” last weekend and all I can say is: “It was great!”. The receptionist was welcoming and absolutely friendly. She gave us the necessary informations about the hostel and showed the rooms and facilities. Everything was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was modern and the kitchen offered everything you need for cooking. I would recommend this hostel to anyone because even if it is very centrally located, it offers the opportunity to relax and the cozy atmosphere of a country house is definitely given. Thanks! The Old Countryhouse Backpacker Hostel is not the cheapest one but you'll absolutely get, what you deserve - Quality, "free" Internet and very very friendly Service.
You shouldn't miss this opportunity while staying in the Garden City - CHRISTCHURCH
H.Just a one night stay but it's a nice place, comfy beds, good facilities. Kitchen well kitted out. Good WiFi. Bit far out of town but we had a car so no issues and parking was very easy. Recommended
R.I stayed there for a week and for me it’s the best hostel I’ve been in NZ. It’s super cosy and you have a nice garden with bean bags and of course you have the awesome hot tub. The wifi is quite fast too.

T.WiFi is decent at best, not functioning at worst. Kitchen is very sufficiently equipped. Showers are great. The beds and rooms are very clean and comfortable too.
m.Really friendly staff and nice place in general. However, we are sleeping in a double room , where the bed is a bit too small for two persons, and it gets a bit cold here during winter. The wifi has not been the best either.

E.Best cozy hostel in Christchurch. It's a big place with a lot rooms and doorms. Three big houses with rooms with 4 doorm room , 6 doorms rooms and one bed rooms. It's a beautiful garden i the middle and they have a spa ( wasn't working when I was there) and a souna. Cosy kitchens and cozy living rooms. Every house have a wifi. The wifi is pretty good but in the evening when many people are using it's pretty hard to connect. They have a nice dog named Max.

_.Really nice staff, the Dog ist awesome, WiFi works good and is unlimited. Minus one Star, because the pillows are not good. It feels like you just lay there without any pillows at all.
