R.Staff were very nice and welcoming. Property needs a bit of a refurbish. However, booked x2 rooms for one night with a great price. Beds were very comfortable. Ordered room service and got sticky date pudding- one of the best sticky date puddings I’ve ever had. Bathrooms are very clean.
Has the potential to be noisy with it being central and uni students being out an about- fortunate enough to not have stayed at Kingsgate at a time when all the students were partying.

S.As soon as I got in the lift, it Immediately reminded me of hotels in LA back in the year 2000. Clean and tidy, friendly staff but dated.
Limited car parking available.
Room was good, no air-con to cool the room down.
Overall, nothing bad, just dated, 3.5 stars.

L.Comfy bed, clean and tidy + yummy breakfast delivered to my room for an extra fee. Disappointed in the lack of sound proofing and the shower was awful, not to mention the curtain didn't wrap right around making a pool on the floor of the bathroom.
Parking very limited and awkward for a bigger vehicle. No free wifi? No spoons to make hot drink with, kettle barely fit under bathroom tap to fill.
Also I booked when rates were very high due to a concert that didn't go ahead, and between the booking agency and the hotel, I was unable to get any help to get back the near $300 difference for the nightly rate. Always go non refundable!
Won't rush back, but not a bad for a night or two
J.Service at the front desk for late check in was good but the bathroom is so uncomfortable and dangerous. Not recommend for seniors and children.

K.The Kingsgate hotel is a little dated. The lift gives me a fright because of how old it look but runs perfect fine. The rooms a just like your average hotel. White sheets and a small bathroom. The biggest no no for me is the shower curtain. The curtain doesn’t block the water form leaking out all over the bathroom. A nothing thing to not is the wall are very thin you can hear people though the walls which makes you feel bad for doing literally anything, like watching tv late at night because you don’t know if the sound is up to high. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed for dinner meaning that I had to go out and pay for my dinner each night I was there. On the flip side the views were stunning from the balcony. The hotel was super close to the city centre, a 2 minute walk. Great place overall would 100% stay again 😁😁

G.The hotel is well positioned on the edge of the CBD with good views across the city and harbour. Car parking is very limited and nearby locations are paid hourly or tow away.
Sadly the hotel is in need of a renovation as it was looking dated when I last stayed here about 6 years back. Now it's not just dated but quite tired.
The staff I spoke with were very friendly and helpful, happy to answer any question I had.
A.I wouldn't give it more than a 3 star but is definately an okay place to stay for the night on a budget. I wouldn't stay again unless it was down to budget

Hotel very close to CBD, bit of a steep walk to get back so beware of mobility.
I had asked for a quiet room and was given one far away from everyone.
Unfortunately the second night was busy and noise from level above and neighbours on either side of me were very loud.
Hotel is dated and would look good with plaster being fixed and a lick of paint.
I stayed Easter Sunday and Monday and decided to eat in the restaurant Monday night.
Felt incredibly sorry for the one waitress as with about 7 tables of people, she was running around all over the place. Girl from reception was helping, not sure if they were short staffed in the kitchen or restaurant in general but bit of a wait for food.
But portion size was very good.
C.Good budget hotel option. Don’t expect super high end modern rooms, the building is quite old. However, the room was well presented, comfortable and very clean. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Given the price point, I think it is a fair deal.

R.Room great. Welcome great. Very central. Just about 6 minutes away from the city centre. All shops, restaurants and anything else you need is just in walking distance. Just make sure you do not move the car anymore once you got it parked as you will not find a space later on. Seems they do not have enough car parking spaces however still worth booking.
L.Rooms all appear to have been recently refurbished and currently in good condition. Facilities as expected and good. Breakfast was ok, reasonable buffet choice. Staff were helpful.

We stayed in this hotel for 1 night, from the moment we arrived, the front desk staff could not be more helpful. The lovely ladies went out of their way to provide whatever we asked for as quickly and efficiently as they could even bringing ice to our room instead of us waiting in reception for it.
The rooms are a little tired, and don't have air-conditioning, and could do with a revamp, but the staff we had contact with were 5 star.
Thank you for making our stay in Dunedin enjoyable.
I.Bedding and amenities are great. Views are exceptional! The building could use minor refurbishment on the carpentry to bring it to 5 stars

h.Got what we paid for, clean basic room with everything you expect plus a large balcony and a nice view, helpful and friendly staff. Fridge has a loud hum which made sleeping in that room hard bit otherwise no problems with room.
Very disappointed with restaurant we booked a table and ordered drinks before being told that they were changing the menu compared to the one advertised on website. Menu was very very limited with approx 3-4 mains available none of which apealled to us. Ended up ordering okay but very average bar snacks as we didn't have time to go elsewhere.
T.The location is excellent - so easy to go anywhere. The rooms have been upgraded and refurbished and are good. The staff at all times were helpful and polite. We did get our money's worth as far as rate goes. I would stay here again next I am in town.
K.Accommodation very close to the centre of town, rooms are slightly dated but clean, however housekeepings habit of leaving the windows open during the day in winter is frustrating when you have to wait for the room to warm up again wheh you get back in from your day. All staff very pleasant, restaurant okay for the price, do wish that they would play more than one CD for the whole week..
C.Older large hotel with good access to downtown Dunedin and free parking. Building is under renovation so our balcony room with large sliding doors and patio did not have access to the balcony! Doors were screwed shut. I would check with the hotel before booking a more expensive balcony/ view room to see if construction was done. Otherwise, nice place, helpful staff.
D.Five stars for service, location and the clean facilities. Rooms are large but dated. But there is a huge tv that I never used and the staff brought double plug for my laptop and a chair for me to work.
The hotel is noisy, it's older and the room walls are paper thin, my room was very noisy, but the lovely staff moved me to a quiter room when they realised I was saying 5 nights.
Keeping in mind the discounted rate I paid, I would rate this 5 stars! Once again. It is all about the staff and amazing customer service.

T.As soon as we entered our room, we are disappointed with the small size of the room. The balcony door seems to make noise when the wind blew too hard. All the employees of the hotel were very helpful and very friendly. Very comfortable room. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.
A.My man had a $7 heiny in the bar which was reasonable. The room was ok, no couch but a king n a single bed, parking area not that great. Young man at reception was nice.
S.Nice stay, pretty standard deal. Could definitely do with some more parking and a redesigned entrance with room for cars to pass by and not get stuck between other vehicles. Would be nice if you could record sky movies during your stay too. Good views of the city
R.My mum and I spent 4 nights at Kingsgate and the staff were just wonderful. From the bartender David who was always so friendly, full of information and very helpful, to the wonderful reception and house keeping staff that jump started our car!

L.Staff were very friendly and helpful. Housekeeping staff and reception, and the maintenance man. Room service meal was well presented and yummy,.as was the bar meal of spicy wedges with SourceSafe sweet chilli sauce. My bed was so comfortable. Enjoyed my stay.
G.We were pleasently surprised with this hotel, we knew we were looking on the cheap side and our expectations were pretty low. The staff were very friendly, bathroom and room were spacious and clean, and we had a balcony view. Highly recommend if you're staying on a budget.
J.This place is great for families and groups of people. They have really nice spacious rooms and sky tv comes with the room. It also has a great view of the city. It is a little pricey but id say its worth it for what your getting.
T.The rooms are not well insulated for noise and the six o'clock start next door was a pain. There are always people to help you in the hotel. A pleasant welcome and a very spacious room. The toilet was not cleaned properly, we could see stain on the toilet rim.

K.This is a 3 Star hotel. Nothing wrong with it as long as you keep this in mind. Staff are generally friendly and helpful. Facilities are basic and aging but clean. We were given a "01" room, e.g. 201,301, which is next to what looked like a food service lift, so if you're a light sleeper, be aware you will hear whirring noises in the morning.
T.The Kingsgate's best feature is its location. I was pleasantly surprised to obtain a room at this hotel. Our room was spacious with a large sliding doors which looked out on to a chunk of the city with the hills in the background. We stayed in the older part of the hotel but it was lovely.

S.I had great service, the bar man/ restaurant guy was amazingly attentive. My room was great at 101, but my friends at a lower number could hear their neighbours - even hear a sigh next door.
T.3 star minus. Room was clean and much better than the Kingsgate in Te Anau, but that's about the main plus. Didn't even have any accessible plug sockets next to the bed, had to move the bed forward to find one. Parking is very limited so be prepared to pay and display.

T.I always looked forward to returning to my room after a long day out. The hallways were a bit old and scary but I have probably seen too ***y horror movies and could have an overactive imagination. Bit of hit and miss to get a nice constant temp in the room.
T.I really liked the service here which was friendly and helpful. Within easy walking distance of the Octagon and nearby restaurants, bars, and sites. The hotel us situated so close to the octagon it makes it an ideal spot. Thank you Andrew & team, I will be back.
