S.Pretty good considering myself and partner lived here for 9 months so we doing great being in a emergency housing and coping fine as.
s.Neat and tidy rooms and communal space. Quiet enough to get you that good night's sleep. I know you get what you pay for but the dorm beds could be less "springy". Was there only during late night and till breakfast so ideal for "those" nights.
M.Close to everything, friendly and helpful staff, rooms are amazing and secure, yes there is wifi and wheelchair access. Its affordable for all budgets. If I'm ever back down this way, I'm staying here again. Its equal to a cheap hotel/motel. There is a shared kitchen and smoking and vaping is outdoors. There is an upstairs and downstairs as well. Towels are provided and so is TP. However you will need to bring your own shampoo and conditioner and soap. No hairspray or spray deodorant, it will set off the fire alarm (thought I'd mention it in the review to save you the embarrassment and the fine and getting kicked out) overall I loved this stay.
D.After reading some of the reviews it sounded like the place was not up to much. We are glad we stayed as very comfortable and value for money. Would recommend staying.
Q.Mixed experience. Stayed here one night, the backpackers accomodation feels like a dark basement to me. The staff were very nice and helpful, and the kitchen facilities were more than adequate. Most uncomfortable beds I have had during my whole trip, I could feel the individual springs sticking out of my mattress. Overall it was good value for money considering it's in the center of Hamilton, I appreciate the service they provide.
A.It was fine. A pretty shabby backpackers. The linens and towels were all comfortable and the shower was hot. The upstairs kitchen was a mess, no hot water for washing dishes, and one of the faucets was busted. I felt safe and the price was decent, but I've definitely stayed at better.
H.A nice place with good (free) breakfast (including pancakes), free parking facilities and surprisingly spacious rooms.
Compared to some other hostels in NZ, you get a lot for your money... we even had a TV and a mini fridge-freezer ^_^
The only tiny minus I have to give this place, is that they have really...really!! thin walls...
G.Great staff and location. Communal areas tidy. Communal breakfast was simple. The breakfast area was too small for the large groups. Ran out of food within 45min. So as we where late we got toast and cuppas. Beds are hard if you like that. I don't so I couldn't sleep. But for the price it was great.
H.Nice enough room and (smallish) kitchen for the hostel, but I would not stay here in summer. The windows don't open and the rooms get really warm! The hallway between them was freezing cold however so some were creative and their room fans blowing the cool air into their rooms, which would be completely necessary on a hot night.
L.It's convenient that it is situated close to the hamilton bus stop, retail shops and restaurants. However, all the rooms and beds are very small. The old stuffs of the previous visitor was not removed. There was no Ac/heater/fan in the room.
c.This backpackers was clean, had good WiFi and bathrooms in the room. The rooms have no ventilation which is an issue when you take a shower. The walls are thin so sound travels through them and you can hear people walking on floors above you. This is only an issue in the morning and night. The kitchen is stocked and kept clean by the staff. The location is good. The bed was not comfortable and the pillows were very flat.
S.My experience at Backpackers overall was satisfactory. I'm happy with my stay. The room was very clean and tidy when I arrived.
My room came with a bathroom as expected. But no Windows. I had no problems with this. I have seen other similar reviews regarding this, but this is not made obvious within the rooms description.
My suggestion is to make this more obvious - when people select a room, state whether or not it has Windows as this might influence decisions.
Apart from this, the place itself is quite comfortable. I felt safe.
s.I stayed in a private room at the hostel for 2 nights. The staff was helpful and polite. The rooms and common areas were clean. The facilities in the hostel - wifi, computers, kitchen etc were very useful. I felt that the rooms were very small - I could barely open both my luggage in there together. The free breakfast was appreciated but in terms of what was on offer, was quite basic. Maybe some fruits or cheese could be a welcome addition.
L.Staff were super friendly and as helpful as they could be. We had requested secure car parking but it was not available as it is on a first come first served basis so vehicle had to be left on street. Price was very good and everything required was supplied. Blankets were very thin but room was clean and warm. Bathrooms were very dated and small but kept as clean as could be. Although signage tells everyone to clean their dishes in the communal living kitchen area, they were often piled up, good supply of kitchen equipment. Unlike other backpackers I have stayed at I felt safe here my entire stay, and was promptly helped when accidently locking my key pass in my room. Would stay again but bring my own blanket.
T.Our room was very clean, but could have done with a small table to put things on and another chair. Plenty hot water was great. Clean lounges, kitchens & bathrooms and free continental breakfasts & tea, coffee, milk etc was a real treat. Thank you very much for an awesome weekend stay. Will definitely be back.
A.The hostel is 5 minutes walking from the center and the transport center.
Kitchen and the lunged are nice. My rooms was very simple: 6 beds dorm and when it's full maybe is not big enough for everyone if they have backpacks with them. Anyway it's peaceful and almost clean.
Staff is nice (I forgot stuffs and they were kind to keep them on the reception until I was return there).

J.When I arrived, I had to stand awkwardly in the doorway with my backpack on, waiting for the two staff to finish their chat. Several minutes later, I was finally acknowledged. It was a very bad start. I understand if people are busy, but this was just rude. My private double was slightly less than a cheap hotel but had shared facilities. Unfortunately, the facilities were a little busy, cramped and missing door locks. My room was an acceptable standard, about what you could expect for the price. However, the TV remote was missing and the walls were so thin I could hear everything going on in this busy backpackers. Overall, not the worst place I’ve stayed in but definitely not worth the price.
K.I had a bunk in one of the lower floor rooms. The hostel was clean and had all needed facilities at a good price. It was quiet and the location is close to central Hamilton. The only issue was the room had a strange smell, but I would stay here again.
M.I stayed in a single room with its' own ensuite - location was close to lots of restaurants, the room was clean and comfortable and extremely cheap.
Just a simple backpackers, no frills, but I had everything I needed for a very affordable stay. I would stay again.
My only minor suggestion for improvement would be that I had a 3 hour wait after I checked out until my shuttle picked me up for the airport - I was charged $5 to leave my bag at the backpackers while I walked around the city and got lunch which would have been nice if it was free for such a short time.
J.Everything was clean and in good working order. The beds were comfortable, the showers were great, and the kitchen was clean. Great value for your money. It's also conveniently located on the free shuttle service line. The one downside is that some of the rooms don't have windows.
M.My goodness....after reading all the terrible reviews I was a little apprehensive. But honestly this is an okay hostel. Check in was friendly enough. And they were helpful when I asked questions. It's a good location. On the main Street and close to riverside walks.
The hostel is in two parts so there are two kitchens two lounges plenty of couches. A sunny deck with tables and outdoor chairs. Some areas could do with a lick of paint. But the bathrooms seem clean. And speaking of bathrooms. There are three, one large unisex and one each 'gents and ladies'. So girls and boys don't have to mix.
My room had large windows and kind of squishy beds. Also medium sized lockers. Top bunks look like they maybe a struggle to get in and out of tho.
G.First time in a backpackers due to no rooms being avail at short notice in motels due to a big conference n a show in Auckland.We had a room with shower.Both acceptable and clean.Staff good to talk with ... kitchen area on ground floor very clean as was lounge.
J.Probably one of my best hostel experiences. Met a bunch of cool people, free breakfast, facilities were all clean, and the hosts were very friendly. Even had a couple free events for backpackers! A little expensive though
A.Fantastic place, very clean and comfortable. Common area was better than what I have encountered at most hostels. We had a late check in and Lark was kind enough to arrange everything for us. It was no hassle to even check in at midnight :)

A.OK accommodation, nothing impressive. Tidy enough, but not a place you want to go to for your honeymoon. Very basic with average quality amenities.
D.This is a great hostel. The breakfast is nice. The family room has a bathroom. My only complaint was that the airconditioning isn't working in the family room wasn't working and we were way too hot. Hopefully they can fix that before the summer.

G.We (group of 5 girls) stayed only one night as we were touring between Waitomo and Raglan for the weekend. The hostel is clean, beds are comfortable, showers are ok and there was a free breakfast included which was really good. Recommended!
J.My daughter & I stayed for one night because we had a show o go to in Hamilton. We were very happy with our stay. We found our room clean & staff friendly. Great location to find & close to food outlets. Very happy to stay in the future if we find ourselves in need cheap accommodation in Hamilton.
R.I was not there long but loved the friendlyness, the welcoming atmosphere. my room was very comfortable and clean. I like to go up a deck with sun shade sail looking over Victoria St. Free breakfast was not bad and enough for me. I will stay here next time.
J.Bathroom and Kitchen werde clean, but in the hallway was a very weird smell. Beds were ok too, breakfast was good. There were a lot of people staying (living there I guess) in there 40s, which created a weird armosphere. Just to pass through it was ok, but I wouldn't stay there longer.

Smokers on the deck meant the kitchen and hallways stank of cigarette smoke.

E.Got stranded in Hamilton so was a great place for a nights stay. Clean facilities and great value for money. (Obviously as bathroom is unisex & for everybody's use they are not spotless, would recommend jandals for the bathroom) Plenty of shower and toilet stalls as well as a plug for use by giant mirrors. There is a hairdryer in the bathroom. Great hot water and shower pressure. Beds are comfortable. Complimentary breakfast and wifi available which is again, great value for money. Very helpful and friendly staff. Would definitely stay again.
W.Good straightforward service with basic amenities. Satisfactory breakfast, clean facilities. No problems except one bunk bed in the family room seemed to be infested with something that covered the sleeper in bites.
A.Good location to the city, but cramped room which was stuffy and with windows that open to the smoking deck so there was a constant stench of old cigarettes. That was the 6 bed, I'd suggest paying the extra for the 4 bed as you might get a better experience.
A.Little bit dirty but staff are friendly enough. Has WiFi, laundry, clothes iron, PLENTY of kitchen space, close to Hamilton main strip. Free breakfast is a choice between a few cereals, some cheap juice, toast w/ options of peanut butter, marmalade, jam, and mini pankakes. Could be way more fun and social if they allowed drinking on premises but the few will always spoil it for the many - so I guess it's understandable.
W.The kitchen is well equipped. But the bed is not comfortable. The ceiling fan in the toilet is out of order. The hair drying is very very very weak. Finally I need to sleep with my wet hair.
K.A decent backpackers with breakfast included and served 8-9am consisting of cereals, toast - jam, peanut butter, butter or marmalade and apples. Lots of toilets and decent hot showers. Can store baggage for a fee. Can do laundry for a fee also. Plenty of dvds to watch, a small selection of books and two computers to use. Beds are simple bunk beds but comfy enough and a locker each - bring your own lock. WiFi was fast.
p.slept a week ago with a friend. a nice and cosy place to mingle with other backpackers. friendly staff helped me to look around the city. free parking and breakfast are big save for us. strongly recommends!
V.The fact they had no windows in my room was kind of disturbing. None the less it was fresh and cool in the room. Breakfast Standart but u could chill in the lounge after checkout as long as a wanted! Thanks guys.
P.The location is very good but the bunk room I was in was very noisy with the air system pipe running through it so I didn't get much sleep, I should have taken ear plugs . But the breakfast that was provided was excellent , conditions werea good and helpfull friendly staff .
R.Enjoyed meeting people, the facilities and the brekkie most of the mornings. However if you a loud snorer, you might get disturbance from people in neighboring rooms where there will be loud taps on the wall and a few yells etc to say that they can't sleep or rest by hearing your snoring. I had the same treatment and at one stage had stay awake the whole night until morning when the neighbors are out and got transferred to my normal dorm to live-in. The backpacker should dedicate a place to heavy snorers like with a sound proofed rooms.
S.I ejoyed myself at Hamilton Backpackers. The service was good the room clean and bed comfortable. Free breakfast too. What I didn't like was not having any Windows. Altho there was a fan the ventilation appeared minimal

C.The beds were dirty and not in a good condition. Luckily I could choose out of 4 mattresses which one I want to use. There were hairs on the matress. The washroom was okay and breakfast for the price also reasonable.
T.The from was very cramped in and very hot. Two fans on and still boiling despite not being a hot day. Living area was dirty and kitchen had few utensils. Bathroom was clean. WiFi was okay. Breakfast of cereal and bread available.

M.The Hostel is in the average, there is nothing special to mention except for the staff. I wanted to store bike in a safe place for the night and the receptionist was really helpful. 5 stars to him
M.Stayed here for a night with my girlfriend in a 6 bed dorm for 30NZD a night. Unfortunately our dorm was in the basement with no daylight or fresh air, but the beds have been comfy.
Bathrooms been decent, nothing special, but clean. There was a free breakfast in the morning with fruit and cornflakes and the hostel providrd two computer for free use as well as fast wifi.
Through the basement location and the design od the hostel it felt more like a bunker, but Hamilton itself isn't to spectacular anyways so it didn't matter to much.
V.Everything was all right including the breakfast but I feel they should have tidied up my Room and provide me with fresh bathing towels and soap each day as I had to buy a soap from the reception.
S.Swipe card entry. Well equipped kitchen. Bathroom clean. Bar fridge and tv in double room. Wifi works well. Towels and breakfast includeded. Two block walk to supermarket. Pretty quiet on Saturday night (which is good for me :-) ) Fitness club pool on same street. Good common area.
C.Decent place to spend a night or two. Good kitchen, unlimited WiFi and free breakfast. Dorm was a little crowded, but comfortable enough and generally good value for money.
L.Even when we have enough money for a 5 star room in Hamilton, we choose Central Backpackers. The l9cation and parking are percect. Rooms have all we need. And the shared facilities are above expectations. Easy access and amazing service from all staff. The breakfast is just Devine.
M.The place was ok.. I chose it because it was close to a venue I was attending. the facilities are a little tired looking and could do with a lick of paint etc.. but the bed was comfy and I slept well.
A.As always, a delight to stay in my home, away from home. On the main throughfare of Hamilton Central the hub for dining, with several gyms on the vicinity. Pak nSave is closeby with a fuel stop.
There are also several Bus Public tra sport routes that eun past the site, and the mIn bus hub is not too gar away to walk to.
a.Friendly staff, my room was suitable to my needs. Although there was a free standing fan available the room was warm and stuffy. Perhaps fixing the fan above on a wall bracket may do the trick.
F.A great place to stay with clean facilities. I had my own room which had its own TV and little fridge. A great bonus getting breakfast included
C.Place is just like any other hostel. Bunkbeds to sleep in. Stayed in the basement rooms, was hot and noisy. Kitchen and common room were useable.

E.Not use to sharing, so was a real eye-opener, love that we stay around the corner from KFC but handy to alot of other Cafes, and the carpark is so big, grandchildren love play with other people staying there.

F.The place is well-ventilated = I didn't suffer from heat which is the case in some backpackers. The breakfast is standard and consistent with backpackers usual breakfast.

A.(Translated) A slightly run down hostel, which I was glad to have booked only 2 nights. The beds were quite uncomfortable, there were no working safes for valuables and I have seen clean sanitation in hostels. Overall, the cleanliness was ok. Overall, the rooms were too narrow, so you did not get up well on some bunk beds. However, there is Chromecast, fast internet and a very basic breakfast which is free. The kitchen is well equipped. Conclusion: Only for younger people and $ 30 for a night in a 6-bed room is definitely a bit too much.

Ein etwas heruntergekommes Hostel, bei dem ich ganz froh war nur 2 Nächte gebucht zu haben. Die Betten waren ziemlich unbequem, es gab keine funktionierenden Tresore für Wertsachen und ich habe auch schon saubere sanitäre Anlagen in Hostels gesehen. Insgesamt war die Sauberkeit aber in Ordnung. Die Zimmer waren insgesamt zu eng, sodass man bei einigen Hochbetten nicht gut nach oben kam. Allerdings gibt es gibt Chromecast, schnelles Internet und ein sehr einfaches Frühstück, welches allerdings gratis ist. Die Küche ist vernünftig ausgestattet. Fazit: Nur was für jüngere Leute und $30 für eine Nacht in einem 6er Zimmer ist definitiv etwas zu viel.
