S.Nice accommodation place. Roof top is a good place to sit, drink and chill. Close to the beach and the main centre of Napier. Provided with good breakfast in the mornings.
7.Reasonably clean and tidy. Woken by a thump in the middle of night, not sure what it was. Good breakfast. Needs a refurbish but happily stay here again

A. m.Just Spent a week here with 9 other friends, we had a blast. Michelle was amazing, helpful and friendly. Beds were cosy and clean. The hostel was fun with various chill out areas. Very relaxed and friendly vibe and would 100% reccomend!
J.Private ensuite room was adequate for one night. Hosts were very helpful. Great location with free road parking outside. Toilet ran all night. Room was large with a heater, window and chair. Shower was great-lots of water and lots of pressure.

B. M.Old building, with equally old linen, towels are free, everyone kept the communal kitchen clean, oh the manager bakes two loaves of bread 🍞 each morning and there is tea/ coffee etc complimentary.
There is a bar next door that hosts a number of gigs each week so there is no sleep on a Saturday night! The building is rocking!

R. W.Great backpackers - very clean, very warm (we stayed in late May / early June), friendly staff, clean, good hot water, big kitchen area. Great central location! Due to Covid-19 the breakfast was freshly baked bread in the kitchen rather than a full continental breakfast but that didn’t bother us. We would stay again.

On the down side : Doors and toilets are really noisy.
Pressure from the shower I used was really bad.(don't know about the others)
Been really cold at night. The blanket and duvet provided were not thick enough.
Overall its a nice place to stay for short term.

The owners are lovely people and the location is not even a minute from city center. Michelle's bread in the morning was a real delight. The three terraces were very nice to relax on.
J. C.This was my second time at Toad Hall. The freshly baked bread for the included breakfast is awesome, and I got more of this delicious bread with the free soup on Thursday evening. Super friendly owners Michelle and Kerry make it a joy to stay here and set the tone for those who stay there. The room was warm even though it was the middle of winter and the big roof terrace looks like it would be an amazing place to use the BBQ in the summer. Highly recommended

Just can’t say enough good things about the management at Toad Hall. It takes special people to welcome everyone into a hostel and create a safe atmosphere while still letting people act as individuals and adhere to the customs and experiences from their own cultures.
I really liked the fact that there are both long and short term guests here as you get a variety of people and a chance to get to know a few personally.
Thanks again to Michelle & Kerry for all your efforts! & of course the bread lived up to the hype as well! Cheers
E. B.We didn't expected much actually from the outside, but then we absolutely changed our minds!
Our room was kinda big and it was really close to the bathrooms and the shared rooms that were in our floor.
The kitchen was unbelievably clean and big. You had everything you may need to cook! In the TV lounge we also found so many cool movie that are also new which was amazing.
We really enjoyed staying there also because the staff is really nice and we LOVED the breakfast!
There is also a really cool view of the city from the top of the building.
The only "negative" thing is that you need to pay to use the WiFi (usually at least you have 30 minutes in the other hostels), but still we survived.

R. W.Toad Hall Backpackers is fantastico. Old character building, theme based on author A.A.Milne Wind in the Willow's stories. Some famous people have stayed there and left their signatures behind to read on the breakfast room wall. Breakfast was great, home made bread, quality Roses condiments with no aeroplane packaging, (eco friendly) so you can use as much as you need, 3 kinds of cereals and fruit, canned and fresh..yummo. You can make real plunger coffee too and there's a great selection of everything to drink. Lots of activities to entertain you in quiet moments or if staying indoors. Huge kitchen and lounge area upstairs and the roof top area is so cool to chillax out with other guests(smokers lounge ). The rooms are clean and comfortable and everyone so friendly. Very easy walking distance to CBD, a hop, skip and a jump you are there. Very reasonable tariff...I stayed two nights, wish it was longer. Next time... hanks Toad Hall, I'll be back and will bring other Windy Willow fan friends. Robyn

MUSKY and damp downstairs, rotting playroom. No money appears to have been spent on this place since the early 20 th century... The one thing that will keep me away is the bogan bar /night club, right next door. Excessive bass, loud drunken people loitering outside Toad hall. Awful, a nightmare...
