If you are concerned around covid stuffs, no vaccine pass is required to stay, there is a lot of shared spaces where masks are encouraged not required.
A.Second time I've stayed here, this time I brought the whole family. The staff are really friendly and helpful, and the rooms are comfy and clean, and the location to markets and shops is excellent. Lots of room/storage for hiking packs if doing Abel Tasman track. I highly recommend!
a.I could not recommend the YHA enough! Myself and a friend stayed here for a month whilst working over summer and enjoyed every second of our stay. The facilities are clean and comfy (and colourful!!) and the fresh bread every morning was the best bonus. Royce, Linda, and Giveen are the loveliest hosts and their welcoming energy made everything about travelling to a new place seem so much easier. Will definitely be back!
R.Staff is lovely and the hostel is very clean. However, We went to 2 different four-bedrooms: high ceiling, you can't see outside cause window are too high, lots of noise from the street. We asked to be moved to another room and even though hostel was empty they refused.
C.YHA location is great.The receptionist and the manager were so warm and accommodating.My husband was unwell and they showed the utmost concern and kept checking on us.They did everything to make our stay comfortable.The facilities and rooms are very modern, neat and clean.Will definitely be going back.
T.Perfect spot for an overnight stay after our hike (they also stored our luggage as well!) we booked a double room with ensuite which was clean and comfortable, and the communal facilities were spacious and well supplied. Highlight was reception staff who were extremely friendly, helpful and understanding when we had last minute change in plans due to severe weather and road closures.
M.Great hostel. We were there in the middle of winter and were a day late after some epic floods in the Tasman. Royce the owner was great with changing the booking. The rooms itself were clean and tidy and had great common areas. Nice lounge area to relax and do some work or reading. Right in the middle of town
M.I have stayed here many times and it is always great! Very friendly people at the front desk. And there is so much space in the communal areas (the lounge is really cool). Would definitely recommend staying here.

C.Really lovely hostel. Very clean and reception staff very welcoming. Lots of helpful information placed around the hostel explaining the hostel info a suggestions on where to go and what to do. I stayed in a female dorm which was really nice and had very comfortable beds unfortunately the heat at night was unbearable on the first night but the second night I kept the door open most of the day with the fan and the curtains closed to keep the sun out which made it more bearable for the second night. I would strongly suggest a real air con unit in this room because the poor fan was moving hot air around the first night and none of us slept.
The addition of an individual sauna was a very unique thing I've never seen in a hostel before but it was brilliant and very clean and the option to play music inside it was nice.
The rest of the hostel was wonderfully clean and calm and lots of different ages of people was nice to see, in the morning there was free bread available which was a welcome addition. Really accessible area as well, close to everything you could want or need. Also free luggage storage for the next day was a nice change. I would stay here again for sure but not in room 8.
I.This place has the kind of high standard I whish every hostel had. It is really really clean, spacious, quiet and you just feel very welcome. The staff is super friendly and helpful, there is a outside area to sit in and the beds are super comfortable. Lots of free fresh bread in the morning and all that for a super affordable price. I am really happy to have stayed here and would have loved to stay longer. YHA just doesn't disappoint no matter where you go.
y.Very clean place. The kitchen is well equipped and there are some free breads in the commubal kitchen when we visited. They also have ebikes for hire. The hostel is in a very centralised location which is very convenient. One downside is that the partition walls are not good for sound proofing, bring a pair of ear plugs to have a good night sleep.
K.I stayed at YHA Nelson for 4 nights (23-27 Jan 2021). The place is right in the centre of the town, a walking distance to where you wish to visit and everything was really clean. The facilities there were fully equipped (kitchens, bathrooms, etc.). The most important aspect of all is the super friendly staff, Royce and Gurveen, who always gave you a big smile and provided you with all the information and support you need (very informative too!).
Highly recommended for everyone!

S.This is a great place to stay. Clean & Tidy YHA, has kitchen, bathroom, laundry, TV room, everything you need. Staff are friendly, helpful & very welcoming. Right in the heart of Nelson City!
J.Stayed there for 3 nights in a female dorm. The room is spacious with a ceiling fan which is really handy in the summer. The staff were pretty friendly and helpful but the guy with spect wasn't quite welcoming. He stopped me and questioned whether I stayed there. Unlike other YHA, the guests aren't welcomed to use the common area after checking out.
D.Location is really good, close to everything including bus station. Rooms were a good size and beds were comfy. Not many charging ports but you could cope. WiFi didn't work in my room which was annoying. All staff that I spoke to were helpful and friendly. Facilities were also really good, their shower was the best I've had yet.
G.So great for the price! Clean, well stocked on the utensils for the kitchen, love that it has an oven, good security at front door (code changes often). Downsides would be lack of hooks in the dorm rooms, no mirrors and no bathmats for the showers... Otherwise I had a great stay! Staff are really nice, helpful too :) would highly recommend.
J.This place is absolutely amazing!! The service is very good and the rooms are very clean and spacious! The chill room (communal room) has a big piano and a big tv screen on which you can watch some movies, for example LOTR. Furthermore, if you want to go to Abel Tasman, the bus stops right in front of the hostel, so that's perfect too! The only thing that could use some enhancement are the bathrooms, those are very small.

M.Good value, efficiently run and clean hostel. Daily free bread in the kitchen and free half filled gas canisters on reception. Also free yoga mats you can borrow. And tons of info about what to do in the local area and Abel Tasman.
S.Convenient location, some staff were quite unfriendly and this is the first time I have come across unfriendly staff in NZ. Rooms were okay, slightly dated. Kitchen was quite clean and met our expectations of a backpackers hostel overall.
N.We had stayed here for 4 days. It was fantastic. All the staff members are friendly and really helping. They have provided details about local shops and tourist spots. Different types of nice daily bred available in the kitchen. Good location with plenty of parking nearby. Competitively cheap.

Pros:
• Well equiped kitchens
• plenty of space in the lounge
• separate movie "theater" room
• stainless steel basins and dry ledge in shower cubicle
• separate reading lamp per bed in dorm
Cons:
• Only 1 ladder in room with 3 bunks
• primary light didn't work in room
• insufficient notices with regard to the locking mechanism of the room door
We had some unfortunate events happen while staying there:
1) We received a parking ticket indirectly because of #2 below.
2) Another woman in our dorm room had her wallet+travel papers stolen by a stranger who snuck into the hostel. By the time the office opened and the camera footage scanned, the perpetrator was gone.
PS: The stranger was photographed by the CCTV cameras and his description was given to the police. IMHO The hostel staff was very supportive to every guest connected by the incident.
Even after the theft and parking ticket, I would recommend anyone to stay here. Just follow my recommendations down below and you should be fine.
Recommendations for the hostel owners:
• Put notices on the inside of the door near the handle explaining the locking mechanism.
• Add large notices at the entrance after office hours: "Be vigilant and never open the hostel doors for anyone who doesn't have a key/code".
• Install doors that require cards to open (see YHA in Wellington) and doors that lock automatically.
Recommendations for guests:
• If someone is hanging about in the hallways doing nothing in particular or the person just hovers around the rooms for several minutes – ask them what they're doing or what room number are theirs. If their answer makes you uneasy call the office staff (they have after hour numbers)
• When using dorm rooms, always lock the door as shared rooms are soft targets for opportunistic criminals – one new strange face in your room shared with others won't trigger any alarm bells in your head.
• Keep your valuables tucked away in your travel bag(s) and not under your cushion or mattress.
I.I stayed in 6 beds dorm, the room is big enough, there're sofa and coffee table inside. The shower/toilet is comunal (outside the room). Luckily it wasn't so full so there's no queue. The room is not well-heated, it was so cold during the night. The kitchen is big and there're free fresh bread everyday. There's baggage locker for $2. One of the reception staffs, a japanese lady was very kind and polite, unlike the other staffs.
N.Great location and service from the front desk, clean and tidy rooms and amenities.
S.Downtown Nelson is pretty noisy during the day if you are unlucky enough to get a room facing the street. Rooms were clean. Beds are as uncomfortable as they come in hostels. Limited kitchen capacity, like every other hostel. Other than that you can't go wrong here.
M.We stayed in it three days it was good hotel and rooms and kitchen and very clean and serivs ... We were very happy in it and cheaper price I hope all people go there

T.close to downtown Nelson, this hostel offers good accomodations, perfect for a good night sleep, after a good hike at Abel Tasman National park. Don't put any attention to the pics... Those belong to Abel Tasman National park, which I had the opportunity to explore..

In short, I have lived in the least favorite YHA, no wonder it is so cheap (member price 19.19 yuan a night), I regret booking 4 nights.
The advantages are still there. The kitchen is full and you don't need to grab it. There are many toilets and bathrooms.

Zentrale Lage, großes Hostel. Das Preis-Leistungs Verhältnis ist vollkommen in Ordnung. Es gibt morgens gratis Brot aus Nelson und Waschpulver gibt es auch gratis. Die Badezimmer sind sauber und Ordentlich. Die Zimmer sind okay. Im 10er Zimmer gab es allerdings beispielsweise an manchen Betten keine Leitern für die Hochbetten. Es gibt 2 Küchen und einen großen Essensbereich. Außerdem gibt es einen Außenbereich und eine Lounge.
